im amy. im 19, im bisexual, free spirited, and like most girls my age im just trying to figure it out. in the process of doing so, ive learned a couple lessons in my young life of few years.

there is a difference between being a prude and having self respect…just like there is a difference between being loose and being “open minded”.

whether or not you like it, we are human. humans get horny. humans like to fuck. just like all the other living creatures on this planet. but unlike a dog or a horse, humans don’t have the “mating instinct” that causes them to screw like animals do only when the female is in heat (excluding dolphins, who do mate for pleasure) we can do it whenever we what with whoever we want regardless of whether they are an “alpha male”. we have the knowledge of the difference between right and wrong and even in the heat of the moment, we know there is ALWAYS a consequence for our actions. but as humans, we are also fooled by blind love and our emotions (jealousy, lust, regret, a desire to be wanted), and it causes mistakes that we may later regret. and NONE of you can tell me you havent seen a fine piece of ass in youre life and you didnt want to take them home. some women are just daring enough to do it regardless of what they know they may feel later. im not saying i would do what alanis does, but i respect that she isnt giving a false modest answer. she is admitting that she is a regular female with regular emotions like any other. she isnt what i would call a slut, and even if she was, i would say that a slut is just a woman with a man’s morals.

yet although im not booing her behavior, im not condoning it either. i met my first serious boyfriend when i was seventeen, who i later gave my virginity too. we broke up after a year, and i dealt with it in a negative way by sleeping with a handsome guy who came to my work place. i didnt want a relationship with him because i wasnt ready, but im not going to lie and say i wasnt completely swept off my feet because i was being pursued by this attractive and charming guy (that and i wanted my ex boyfriend to see how supposedly happy i was without it so maybe he would come running back). it felt nice to be desired again. of course it wasnt until i did get in the sack with this guy that i realized sleeping with another man wouldnt bring my ex back. afterwords i felt dirty and i took a really long shower and cried. i was disappointed in myself because i let me believe i was just moving on to a better future, when really all i wanted was the past to come back. so maybe sex is a good way for some people to get over a past partner or feel good for at least a little while…and if you are one of those people, more power to you. im glad you arent ruled by a strict belief and letting go is easy for you. but some of us just arent capable of that.

in the end, we really are just human and to some our idea of self respect is based on our ability to maintain self control. to others it is a matter of loving yourself and all the choices you make. and as long as you realize the consequences and don’t bitch and moan if you get pregnant or a disease and take responsibility for your actions, then do whatever the hell you want because you are the one who has to look in the mirror and do the best you can to have as few regrets as possible. don’t look back and wish you’d stayed at home, but don’t look back and wish you had had a little more fun being young.

and lauri, wearing a condom is “safe sex” but its not always safe. it CAN slip or break. i have a close friend who contracted herpes and practiced “safe sex”,and now he has to live with it forever.

I do think she’s in the letting go stage of him…now if only she and reporters could quit referencing him.

She comes off as a former child star, 90′s darling, now 30-something competing with (barely) teenage Disney robots. ((Sad, but she too was Madonna’s darling at one point.)) And, for some reason, she’s choosing to work the current modus operandi to sell her goods = TMI (too much info)

Either way, I like her music…which IS what she mainly sells to us consumers.

How about we just stick to that arrangement, Ms. Alanis? I’ll listen to your music to find out what you’re doing and you can tell your best buddies–not me-oh-average-nobody–what you’ve been doing with your life. That approach seems most respectful to both you and me.
