All I have to say to all of you is, Marriage is mariage it will work if its ment to be…I am a 27yr old single parent of two and going through my second divorce. My fisrt marriage was at 20 and lasted just over a year and my second lasted just 4 months and I was 26y. I rushed into my first marriage cause I was pregnant and my second I was with the guy for 3 years before we got married.
I believe that if you really do love someone and its ment to be, you will give it your all to work..Mistakes happen even more so at a young age, its up to the love to carry you through them. Hell I tried my all and couldn’t make it. I stuck with both husbands through them cheating on me. I wanted my family and my marriage…My second marriage would have made it I believe but my husband and I lost our daughter at 13days old and he is now in prison cause it was so hard on him he did stupid shit and is now paying for it. I still love him and want it to work, just hard. But if its true love, we will work, just like these two.

In response to LR…..it is no wonder in a country that is obsessed with celebrities and thier lives, that kids grow up wanting to skip marriage, have children out of wedlock, and go on to raise 3 or 4 kids…..all fathered by different daddies! What used to be a “redneck” way of life has become the norm for all those hollywood types, and young girls and teens aspire to emulate them…I think they think it does, in some wierd way, bring them closer to living like the “important people” (at least to them, the teens) live! It’s only going to get worse….

My goodness, she is waaay to young to get married. Marriage is a life long commitment.. 17 plus say 70 more years of the same partner is a LOOOOOONG time. She better rethink this and get professional counseling. Otherwise she will make a divorce lawyer and her exspouse very rich

Aspen, you girl, are full of crap. The statistics show less then 50% of marriages make it. Sorry you had to post so much to be so wrong. Do a little research instead of using your opinion as fact. I was using ALL marriages, not the slim parameters you laid out. Of course that slim sector of people have a better chance. People like you try to cherry pick the facts to prove their incorrect points. good day to you.

That is completely inaccurate. A couple that gets married with both parties entering their first marriage, after both parties have a high school diploma, and without a pregnancy at the time of the wedding…well, that couple has much better odds of remaining married than just 50%. People who wait until they’re actually grown up (i.e. over 25 with some life experience and knowledge about who they really are), educated, and employed before getting knocked up and married have an even greater chance of avoiding divorce.

That “less than 50%” statistic is overused for the drama it adds to any discussion of the marriage institution, but the sweeping generalization of it distorts the picture. My marriage was never in the under 50% category. People who enter marriage responsibly can usually say the same thing.

It depends on the context I guess..when I lived in LA it was common for mexicans to call white people Rednecks as a derogitory term. Followed by cracker or whitebread.

I don’t even know if they’ll make it to fall. For the baby’s sake and even their own-it is best that they marry. Of course no one can bet any serious money on these two lasting even 2 years. I don’t believe Jamie Lynn is all washed up as an actress-time will tell………

@Rob, Kevin – I live in the buckle of the Bible Belt. I’m surrounded by rednecks, and to many Yankees, I might be one myself.

“Redneck” is not a term of bigotry, it’s a term many Southerns use to describe themselves – with pride. There are some good ol’ boy rednecks who truly are horrible, and there are many, many, many who are simply nice, decent Southern folk who joke about how they’re “rednecks”.

I wasn’t bashing Jamie-Lynn, or the Spears family. They are rednecks. It is fact.

I don’t necessarily believe in getting married so young as there are a whole mess of personality and maturity changes that go down in your 20′s. But it’s their life, and who am I to judge whether or not somebody elses marriage (which is such an intensly personal thing) is going to work or not. No matter who you are, or what your background it will all come down to how hard you work at it and your emotional connection.

Look give them a break, at least they’re trying. My parents met when my mom was 17, dad 21, and they got married 6 months later with my mom being 18. They have one of the most solid marriages I know of and at the beginning had to live through a lot of the ” oh theyll never make its.” So while I dont think getting married and having a baby at 17 is the greatest idea, its not like they’re definately doomed for failure.
