Elton John and David Furnish are introducing their new baby Zachary on dual covers this week – in England, they grace the cover of OK Magazine UK, and in America, they got Us Weekly’s cover. The quotes are the same for both – David and Elton talking about how lucky they are to have Zach in their lives, and how they haven’t given up hope of supporting and be in the lives of the two Ukrainian orphans they tried to adopt:
Meet Elton John and David Furnish’s tiny dancer! The couple shares the first photos of son Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly, out Wednesday.
As first revealed at UsMagazine.com, little Zachary was born via surrogate on Christmas Day 2010, weighing 7 pounds, 15 ounces.
“I’ve never felt anything like it in my life,” Grammy winner John, 63, tells Us of holding his son for the first time. “You’re so awestruck. What can you say? You take it in. The feeling, the joy, the warmth of his body, his breathing…I will never forget that experience ever.”
What kind of personality does little Zachary have? Gushes film director Furnish, 48, John’s partner of 17 years: “He’s a content little guy…He’s very peaceful…He just loves to be nurtured, cuddled, and sung to.”
The road to fatherhood has not been easy and the pair were heartbroken in 2009 after trying to adopt a 14-month Ukrainian orphan named Lev and his three-year-old HIV positive brother, Artyom.
Despite failing to adopt the two children the couple want to do everything they can to find them a home.
Elton says: “We’re still consulting about finding the best possible home for them.”
David adds: “We feel awful. We keep hitting red tape. But we’re not giving up until they’re out and in a safe, supported home.”

Good for them, and congratulations to them. Is this the first time a male-male homosexual couple has debuted their baby on the cover of the weeklies? Let me think… when Neil Patrick Harris and his partner debuted their twins, it wasn’t a cover. I think Elton and David might be the first… right? So, groundbreakers and happy fathers. Cheers!

I like that they haven’t given up on the Ukranian boys. I am happy that they still give those boys their support, even though they couldn’t adopt them.
The only problem I have with this is that the baby is living in another apartment (if the reports are to be believed).
Babies are people, not possessions, so I’m hoping the child isn’t something they tire of and just ship off to boarding schools. That would be tragic.
If that’s not the case, then I’m very happy for them.
Can these two adopt me, please?

@Someone Else: I think it’s far more likely that the second apartment is going to become a “wing” for the child. People often buy adjoining apartments and combine them; I can’t see that after years and years of wanting a family that they’d just throw him in a separate apartment.
And I too love that they haven’t forgotten about the boys they wanted to adopt.

I thought it was David Furniture’s junk and the surrogates egg. Well hopefully. My goss obessed 68 year old mother says it was elton’s sperm.
I doubt the baby lives in a separate apartment. That would be awful. Did you know that’s how Angelina Jolie spent her first year or two? Her mother, depressed about her divorce, rented a separate apartment for her and I don’t think she even saw her very often. She hired helpers to care for her.

I think Elton’s sperm made that baby! Look at the nose! Plus, David’s eyebrows are straight across and Elton and the baby’s are pointed. Just a guess, but watch in a few years, the resemblance will be undeniable 😛
@munchies, donor egg and (like Neil Patrick Harris and his partner) both David and Elton contributed their genetic material.
I happen to believe Eltons sperm won out, due to the light hair. However, it’ll be difficult to tell until the baby is a little older. At birth my son had dark hair and resembled my husband, now he looks like a mini me. If you look at the NPH article one baby resembles him and one looks like his partner.

I think I read somewhere that it’s Elton’s sperm (maybe for legal reasons – like his will, etc.). I think it was him based on that little teeny button nose. But I guess we’ll see when he grows up. (BTW, I think using both dads sperm is a little weird. I mean, I get the concept, but I think it kinda sucks for the other parent. Just make a decision, like lesbians do about who carries the baby and have that be that.)
Why the double standard?
If this was a 63 year old woman with a new baby, people would be up in arms, judging her up the ying yang, and saying how dare such an old lady become a mother.
I am happy for Elton & his partner, though.
