Jon Voight calls Roseanne Barr “sick of mind”

Jon Voight has responded to Roseanne Barr’s rant on his support of John McCain by personally attacking her back. Those ad hominem arguments from both sides are just so persuasive. Voight’s first line of defense was to bring attention to Barr’s supposed lie about her childhood history of abuse – even though his own son has publicly accused him of emotional abuse against his late ex wife and he would do well to avoid that subject. At least Voight knows how to use punctuation and line breaks, although his reasoning is about on par with Barr’s:

Answer to Roseanne Barr’s Rant:
We can never be surprised at what vile evil comes from the mouth of a confessed victim of child abuse at the hands of her own parents.

Her parents responded to the accusations by going on the air and stating she is a psychopathic liar and her sister agreed.

Her defaming of our National Anthem in 1990 gave us insight into who she is and what she is capable of saying and doing.

My allegiance to Senator McCain becomes stronger with any assault that tries to deter my loyalty to him.

I can only pray that good people see her for what she is (sick of mind)

[From Jon Voight's written response to Roseanne Barr on Extratv]

This argument reminds me of Rosie’s feud with Donald Trump – they were just insulting each other back and forth and seemed to forget what it was they were arguing about in the first place. It’s lame when people just start attacking each other and it makes them both look petty. (Here’s my favorite guide for addressing arguments as outlined by Karl Sagan in his book Demon Haunted World. Scroll down to the common fallacies of logic and rhetoric, that’s the best part.)

Barr has blogged that she wasn’t really attacking Voight’s estranged daughter, UN ambassador Angelina Jolie, for her unwillingness to endorse a candidate, she was attacking the media’s representation of Jolie and Pitt. OIC what you were doing there, Barr, that’s so clever. *eyeroll* Barr called Voight’s daughter and her husband his “evil spawn” and “vacuous” and criticized their careers, their donations to charity and the impact their lifestyle has on the environment. It’s all ok according to Barr, because she sort-of took it back by blaming someone else for her opinion:

i do not know brangelina

and do not mean to personally impugn them as they might be good people in the flesh, but the media’s images of them are smelly and vile, and I must always attack the media’s representation of what is good or cool, because those who inhabit the media world of glamour and entertainment and fashion and gossip are horrid people who have no talent of any kind, and yet think of themselves as tastemakers. taste my sandy buttcrack, tmz, and perez!

[From RoseanneWorld.com, emphasis added]

TMZ titled their post about this, using a reference from Shaq’s rap about Kobe Bryant, “Roseanne To TMZ: Tell Me How My Ass Tastes!”

One talent many people who inhabit the media world have that Roseanne lacks is the ability to compose a coherent sentence. Voight wins in that department, even if his logic skills are just as poor.

Please don’t let either of these clowns keep you from researching the candidates and voting for the person you think would make the best President. It’s about the issues and who would take the country in the direction you support, not about two celebrities’ half-baked opinions.

Christ. How old are these two?? If Voight had one ounce of judgement, he would have taken the high road, ignored Barr’s incoherent rantings and just let the whole thing die a natural death. Instead he validates her by giving her the attention she plainly craves. Pathetic. They’re as bad as each other.

McCain and Obama are so lucky to have these two in their corners.

Brad and Angie seem to be taking the high road in this and ignoring the comments. The paps won’t let them forget though as they will be yelling out stupid questions about it for months. As for Barr, she should be ignored. She wants attention and to be in the limelight…this is how she got it, and please….nobody wants her there.

Barr should be McCain’s VP. I loathe both.I would be able to center in my loathing of both into one being. I like it.

(Yes I know Barr is for Obama. Before anyone tries to correct me.)

Well said Leandra. I agree 100%. The party whom was attacked seems to be the only one doing the mature thing.

As is now, 2 has been celebs using this to stay relevant for 15 minutes longer.

I agree, Voight should have ignored Barr, but we all have not taken the ‘high road’ in our lives, hell alot of us do it on this site.
Angie has enough sense to keep her vote to herself, I hope.

    Wait!

“We can never be surprised at what vile evil comes from the mouth of a confessed victim of child abuse at the hands of her own parents”

What does that mean? A confessed VICTIM? I know what he was getting at, but this is really badly stated and offensive to victims of abuse and their families.

    Thanks, Syko.

When I read that, I thought:
What does he want to say?
That being a victim of abuse is something one has to confess to?
And that it is never surprising when a victim of abuse says evil things about others?

I don’t like either party in the feud, but there’s no need on Voights part to lash out against all victims of abuse.

Barr confessed she was a victim of child abuse.
Barr’s parents and sister went on air or whatever and confirmed she is a psychopathic liar. Thus, most it could be false that Barr said it.

Still it is wrong of Voight to exploit that whether it is true or not. Victim’s of abuse do not need to be reminded of it just because they lash out at others.

Both parties are childish in their sayings and actions.

    @ Mr. T
I have to disagree. What has Jon Voight done that is decent or honorable? He looks like a self centered egomaniac from where I’m sitting. I think it was the crying on camera a few years back over his supposed lose of his relationship with AJ that made me think what a complete a**hole. He didn’t seem to care about the relationship until she became more famous than him. He will do or say anything to get attention. As for Barr she is just nuts and no one pays her any mind.

He might feel vestigial guilt over not being there for Angelina when she was a kid. Maybe this was to curry favor and see all of his grandkids. Then again, he could just be a dad who feels protective. I like to think it’s the latter.

Voight & Barr’s two arguments can be summed up as follows:

Voight: A nigra in the White House! NO! I hate people who remind me of my crazy self! Pay attention!

Barr: A senile old fart in the White House! No! I hate people who remind me of my crazy self! Pay attention!

  16. Scott F. says:

I would point out he’s not attacking an ACTUAL victim. He’s pointing out that it was proven that she made it all up!

You guys actually think we shouldn’t attack someone who made up salacious lies about being sexually abused by her family? She even admitted that she’d completely made it up – claiming that she was effected by multiple personality disorder and it was one of her ‘other personalities’ that was saying she was abused.

I’d say that makes her a psychotic liar, who’s word should be questioned. Actions like that show a deep and profound disrespect for REAL victims who actually suffered sexual abuse at the hands of their family.

So lets not jump on the pity party for old Roseanne quite yet.

  17. geronimo says:

Hmmm. Where are you seeing a pity party for Roseanne here, Scott? The only thing I’m seeing is disdain and disgust for Voight that he’s stooped to Barr’s level of idiocy.

His ‘abuse’ point is valid as far as Barr is concerned (ie. she lied) it’s just the clumsy way he phrased it that seems to have caused some people here to read it as some sort of criticism of abuse victims in general. He’s speaking specifically about Barr and what he regards as an unforgiveable action on her part and one that clarifies, if anyone’s still in any doubt about it, how little attention should be paid to her. But no one is supporting or sympathising with Barr here.

Just wish they’d both have a bit of dignity and STFU.

  18. Syko says:

Thanks, Geronimo. After reading it several times, I realized that he was meaning to put her down for having lied about being abused (and I stated in my first post that I knew where he was going with it). But the way it was phrased, it sounded like all abuse victims are evil, and I really think if you are going to make public statements, you should be careful about how you phrase things.

Rosanne is a CRASS act, she always was, and always will be. She may have been paid by the Republicans to endorse Obama. They always play the dirtiest of pool.

That was meant to be a joke, but I can not help but observe that Republican lynch-mob/witch-hunt politics have ruined politics in America. Any really good men being afraid to run, because of the character assassination they would have to endure from the Republicans. Yes we should all give less attention to this ridiculous celebrity banter and think about how we are going to get our country off the skids.

Dear Mr Voight, I can see the apple never falls far from the tree. Angelina is indeed your spawn. Pieces of the same cloth. Crass and uncouth. It is no wonder you no longer have a relationship. You are too alike for one room.

As for Roseanne, you wrapped a very good point in such rubbish that it almost got lost. Nevertheless, thank you for pointing out what most of us already know and have been trying to say all this time. Hopefully, more people will see the Brangelina fakeness as time goes on.

Yes, perhaps it would have been the best thing to ignore the low class rantings of Roseanne. However, let’s not forget that this is Jon Voight’s daughter that Roseanne is blasting. He is reacting, not acting. He is behaving like most of us would if someone was verbally assaulting our child.

i too am a survivor and once felt sorry for all the trouble i had caused and recanted. But one thing kept sticking in my craw. What if Uncle Skank is still doing what he did to me? How dare I forgive a sadistic pedophile for what He may be doing to someones child today? He tormented Me for 10 years and then commenced ignoring Me. I made it through…half a century of the crazy dale show. When I prosecute my offender who will care for his children? Thats why I recanted…for pitys sake. However: I made fresh allegations for the sake of little children that might be left with this monster. I want him to know that if anyone ever accuses him that I will support old crazy_________ insert name of various victim here. You poor happy and sane are all as blind as bug eating bats. Its ironic that Bat dung is used to make gunpowder.
