I have a friend who was so addicted to World of Warcraft that he completely shut himself off from the outside world, his family, and his friends, and it came down to the point where we actually had to have an intervention, cancelling his membership, and he had to undergo extensive counseling just to break the habit.

Anything can be abused and/or addictive.

And for some people, gambling is as addictive as commenting on stupid blog posts. Addictive personalities aside, however, alcohol is far, far greater in terms of its chemical, emotional and even social dependence manifestations (and in terms of the consequences & costs of its consumption) than any street drug. (Tobacco and herion are distant 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.)

And what should we do about it?

How did that prohibition thing work out with alcohol, anyway? And what about this drug war phenomenon, with its domino-theory (“gateway drug”), punishment-as-deterrent, and cynical prison economy?

It’s all hypocritical, “anti-American” nonsense, the real justification for which is the same as with any other scarcity economy: profit, power, and control.

Speaking of money, how many of us know that Big Pharma is patenting the different cannaboids both in the plant and in our genomes, and who gave them the deed to the planet, anyway? By 2010, over $27 billion worth of synthetic cannaboid preparations will be controlling markets in everything from obesity treatments (go figure) to cardiac and neurological medications…mirroring, in a very opposite way, the function of homeostatic regulation that the endocannabid system has been documented to serve over the last 20 years in every one of the body’s systems, even unto the cell death previously thought to be genetically triggered. The outstanding difference, of course, is that in the body’s relationship with the environment, seen over deep spans of time as our coevolution with plants that can make us see and think differently, it’s all mutual, or, in a phrase as foreign to us as the outer reaches of space, absolutely free.

Dismantle the corporations, end the scarcity regimes, recognize our myths for what they are.

Let’s try honesty for a change.

the whole reefer madness thing should’ve died down in the 60′s but it didn’t. and if you do your research you would know corporations like dupont made pot illegal b/c of it’s sister plant hemp being such a great all around crop. plastic production and fibers were using petroleum oil. when in reality linseed oil is cheaper, doesn’t take pesticides to grow and can grow continuously on the same soil without destroying it, but they didn’t have a monopoly on that market at the time. when you see the stats of countries that allow farmers to grow it you realize that this was a huge mistake on our part. seriously look that shit up if you don’t know and educate yourself.

and if anyone knows where these published reports about weed smoke being more harmful that 20 cigarettes please send it to me, i too want to educate myself. i just can’t seem to believe that’s true so put up a link or something.

It was all good until three years ago when I was diagnosed with throat cancer, which the doctor said was caused by too much smoking. After having my throat cut open in surgery, radiation and chemo, I decided I probably shouldn’t smoke anymore.

I hold no judgement against pot smokers. Everyone’s life is there own. Pot is relatively harmless compared to meth, coke, even booze, if done in moderation. But to pot addicts like me (yes, you absolutely can be one), it can cause serious health problems.

I am living (thank God) proof that long term daily use can seriously fuck you up.
