During last year’s awards season, there was significant buzz about Best Supporting Actress nominee (and eventual Oscar winner) Mo’Nique. Specifically, there was buzz about her lack of a razor. Yes, Mo’Nique does not believe in shaving her legs. At all. Even when she’s wearing fancy gowns.
Anyway, this morning Mo’Nique was one of the official Oscar nomination announcers, which in and of itself is interesting. Mo’Nique got a lot of criticism last year for not being interested in all of these Hollywood kiss-ass-and-make-nice type appearances. But there she was in a lovely ice-blue ensemble, literally kissing up to some Academy dude after he introduced her. But now the topic of conversation is: Did Mo’Nique shave her legs? I think she might have. Yesterday. Or over the weekend. But not this morning. See those little goosebump-looking things? That’s what day-old stubble looks like on us darker-skinned ladies. So why in the world did Mo’Nique SELL OUT?!? Big Razor must have gotten to her!

I thought she never shaved because it was painful for her – she has some kind of condition – I don’t think it was to be a non-conformist.
She has lost some weight too – she looks quite lovely to be honest.
Who knows when, but her feet look like loaves of bread all shoved into those shoes.

Poor Monique. She won an Oscar but all anyone will remember is that she never shaved her legs.

aw no! i thought it was really cool of her not to shave her legs when she’s in the public eye like that. still maybe she had to do it for a role? she might not shave but maybe her character wore skirts and the director was not impressed with her forest?

“Not shaving” your legs is not a bad thing. I give her even more credit since she is in the public eye. I don’t but then again I don’t have much hair on my legs either – it’s not noticable. But I see nothing wrong with a “natural” lady and she has a great sense of style

however…she looks like she did something to her face.
like, an eyelid lift or something. her eyes look much more “open” (less squinty) than they used to. and not just because she’s got a surprised face in that one pic.
could be her make up, but it looks like more than that.

Maybe the good dress designers were refusing to dress her for free since they didn’t want their gowns to be associated with hairly lady legs!!
FYI Monique didn’t shave for this she told El Debarge on her show last week that she start shaving her legs a while back. Her reason her hair was falling out in patches. The only thing worse than a full hairy leg is a leg with patches of hair missing(smile)
Last year she got flack for not shaving and now you call her a sell-out? Seriously!

Not all dark-skinned women get that goosebumps thing (I don’t!) – it just depends on your skin. I’ve seen in on white-skinned women, too.

She might have decided to shave in order to play nice with Hollywood. It doesn’t seem Hollywood came knocking on her door after all her divatude from last year, so she might be trying to redeem herself in order to make the big money she so loves.

Hey Kaiser! Great news that she shaved but the dark spots on her legs aren’t stubble. It’s from a condition called keratosis pilaris. Non life thereating. Totally common. Look it up! 😀

Get a show on B.E.T. with a regular makeup artist and a budget for waxing and that’s what one does on occasion – wax. If you’re very hairy, tho, with a plane to catch, stubble ensues pretty quickly. The “goosebumps” are pre-stubble on curly-haired, melanin-rich skin.
Those marks are common to black women (dark or light) who grew up fallin’ on cobblestones, had a bout of chickenpox once upon a time and Vaseline scrapped on the streets of northeastern cities like Baltimore. They’re called, wait for it – scars. Who knew?
Thought that whole “I dont want to be a part of your club” thing last year was just a ploy to get into the club and do what she wanted to do when she got there (like announce awards show nominees for a big fee with a big rider). Still do. Guess what? It worked. I mean, she out Oprahed Oprah. That’s balls. I like her a lot better now, too. It seems, so do most of you as well.

does anybody have a problem with anti snoring reggarding sinus difficulty in the winter, I’ve got a cpac device that drys out my upper sinus sinus during the cold months months and I can’t put on my machine,If I do not wear my cpac my Heart condition comes back and i might die from this, please respond if you can help with guidance.
seriously – are you stupid??? of course she shaves her legs. some women – black, white, asian…anything – have this condition. we DO SHAVE it’s just that she skin shows the root underneath (although for white women the dots are usually red). How could you have reached this age in life and not actually seen someone with this condition before??? don’t be nasty. do you realise the kind of stress and embarrassment and shame that comes from this and you’re just waving your priviledge around because you don’t have it? for some people they avoid even having intimate relationships. lots and lots of women have this. they’re not scars. read up on keratosis pilaris, look at the forums.
