Da Brat gets 3 years in prison for nightclub attack

Rapper, producer, reality star, Mariah Carey’s BFF, and all-around badass Da Brat (real name Shawntae Harris) has just been sentenced to three years in prison for an attack that occurred at Jermaine Dupri’s Studio 72 nightclub in Atlanta this past Halloween. She hit Shayla Stevens, an Atlanta Falcons cheerleader, in the head with an almost full liquor bottle. Da Brat must also must serve seven years of probation and complete 200 hours of community service.

Harris also must get substance abuse treatment and a mental evaluation and attend anger management classes. “She feels a great deal of remorse for what she did,” said Harris’s lawyer, Thomas Clegg. “She is willing to accept responsibility for what she has done.”

A handful of Harris’s family sat on the back row of the courtroom. They wept when a sheriff’s deputy took her into custody. “I love y’all,” Harris, 34, said as she was led out of the courtroom. “We love you too” the relatives replied in unison.

Dressed in black pants and top with her short hair in braids, Harris did not comment other than to answer “yes” several time when the judge asked her if she understood her guilty plea to a felony aggravated assault charge and her negotiated sentencing.

As a result of the blow Stevens was knocked down some stairs and landed on a cement floor. She suffered a severe facial cut and will have permanent scars. She was in court but didn’t say anything. Stevens is also suing Da Brat for medical and other costs. Da Brat isn’t just an occasional reality TV star (The Surreal Life and Celebrity Fit Club); she’s also a very well-respected – and highly paid – Grammy nominated producer. I doubt she’ll end up serving all three years, but that is a surprisingly long sentence compared to what some people end up doing for even worse crimes like manslaughter.

  2. I LOOove Da Brat! And I’ll guess she’ll do about 60 days, maybe 90, but I’m guessing based upon what I know of California and the way they do things here. Georgia might be different, over there thy might make her serve more of the sentence in jail.

Cali’s different mostly due to overcrowding, one doesn’t have to be a celebrity to only have to serve a tiny smidgen of a fraction of their sentencing behind bars. Even tatted-up professional criminals get circulated fast through the system here and get released super, super early on O.R.

  5. Jaclyn, she’s an old school Chicagoan gangsta rapper, so unless you’ve ever listened to/been really familiar with a lot of ’90s gangsta rap, then it wouldn’t be surprising to have not heard of her.

All My Bitches is a classic Da Brat song, and it reminds me of all my bitches here at celebitchy!

    (I’m talkin’ to…)
    All my bitches
    That live the hood life,
    Good life,
    My bitches
    That don’t need
    A n-gr for shit!
    Bitches wit a
    Game plan,
    Rockin’ name brand,
I dedicates this one to YOU.

  6. This is the same no talent loser that had the nerve to insult Jane Wiedlen of the gogos and she is a hasbeen. People will still know the gogos years from now why you will be doing what passes for talent in the rap word. A RAP sheet

  7. Da Brat has been a headcase for a long time. May she rot in the penitentiary or a least a mental hospital for the criminally insane. :D

  8. Jesus, moon unit, that’s profoundly harsh! 8O I take it you’re not a fan of Da Brat. Her music isn’t likeable to people who dislike rap, and yeah, she was kind of a bitch to tell the Go-Go’s girl she thought she was a has-been, but I’m not a fairweather fan, so I’ll step up in her defense any time.

  9. Now if Paris would just hit Kim Kardashian on the head with a liquor bottle….

  10. Snowblood, I actually like some of her music and have grooved to it. I’ve seen her attitude in action and she’s got a lot of problems of a social nature. How you went from me not liking her due to her being a rapper is beyond me. I don’t like her because she’s a toxic headcase. Get some help, Brat.

  11. Do we need to be looking straight up her nose?? I cannot stand being able to look right into people’s noses. It’s so gross and distracting. Don Cheadle’s nose is so distracting, I can barely focus on what a great actor he is.

  12. Aquanetta - yes, she’s gay! She’s always been lesbian, she just doesn’t care to come out. And she IS beautiful, these photos here in this thread do NOT do her justice at ALL. She’s really beautiful, her face AND her body which she usually hides under the baggy guy jeans, and all those layers.

I’m bi, and I would be SO excited to date Da Brat! If I weren’t in my long-term, happy loving relationship with my beloved boyfriend, of course.

There’s a few women celebs who are attractive to me in the sexy sense, but only a few. I find a lot of women beautiful and intriguing, but sexually attractive to ME, only a few. Da Brat would be one of them, she just seems like she’d be THE coolest girlfriend to have, for a girly-girl lesbian or a bi like me. She’s got a girlfriend, though, I heard.

  14. I heard that Georgia has pretty strict laws when it comes to violent offenders and early parole. They also have a “two-strikes” law so depending on what priors she has Georgia might actually keep her in.

But yeah right…she’ll be out in 3 months.

  17. Who cares whether you like her music or not or whether you’d like to date her? She assaulted someone with a bottle that could have easily disfigured or killed.

This is reality, not a Western where a bottle shatters and no one is severely hurt!

People should be held accountable for their actions. She is being punished accordingly and, to be honest, is getting off light IMO. She will likely get out early and won’t learn a thing from this situation.

  18. That’s what she gets for messing with Jane. I KNEW karma would run her the hell over for fucking with my favorite Go-Go. Um… it’s kinda cool she went upside a cheerleader’s head, though. It’s too bad that rassler boyfriend of Chyna’s stood down… Da Brat was fixin to put a real live beat down on him. THAT would have been cool, and I would have forgiven her for the Jane thing.
