Did Julianne Moore save Annette Bening & Warren Beatty’s marriage?

wenn3170816

Last year, stories about the marriage trouble of Annette Bening and Warren Beatty began appearing in The National Enquirer. I tended to believe what little I read about the situation, thinking that The Enquirer was likely paying some well-placed sources for their information. The stories were less about Annette and Warren’s marriage and more about how their oldest daughter, Kathlyn, was planning on becoming (or perhaps already became, I don‘t know) a man. Kathlyn even asked to be called Stephen Ira. The sources had Annette being a supportive mother, while Warren seemed to be having real difficulties with the situation. The situation put a strain on their marriage… to the point that when Annette was promoting The Kids Are All Right, her publicist informed all journalists that Annette would not be answering any personal questions. I think this is also why Annette has been keeping a low-profile during the awards season too – she simply does not want to talk about what’s going on in her family. Anyway, The Enquirer has a story in this week’s issue, all about how Julianne Moore has helped bring Warren and Annette back together:

The battling Beattys began drifting apart under the pressure of 73-year-old Warren’s fading career and their daughter Kathlyn’s shocking announcement that she wanted a sex change, sources say. When Annette confided her problems to Julianne Moore, Julianne stepped up.

“Julianne became Annette and Warren’s unlikely family therapist,” an inside source told The Enquirer. “She reminded Annette that she could weather any storm with Warren because of their love and commitment. Julianne spent time with the entire Beatty family before the premiere of The Kids are All Right, and when she got Warren alone, she worked on him too.”

At that point, Annette and Warren were fighting so much over Kathlyn and Annette‘s career successes, they were even sleeping in separate bedrooms. But “Julianne bluntly told Warren that he needed to rein in his ego over Annette’s success… as for Kathlyn, she told Warren ‘God doesn’t make mistakes.’ Now thanks to Julianne’s counseling, Warren has realized that he needs to gracefully let Annette have her moment in the sun.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition]

Eh. While I don’t doubt that Julianne probably offered advice and acting as a sounding board to Annette, I doubt Julianne would push her nose up into Warren’s bidness. I even doubt how truly damaged Warren and Annette’s marriage really was – I bet there were fights, sure, but do I think that it was anything earth-shattering? Probably not.

But I do buy that Annette and Julianne and tight. I want them to be tight. I want them to be older, wiser, hipster girlfriends, you know?

What’s with the spiky hair and nerdy glasses? Wonder how many STDs Warren brought to the relationship?

  2. so says:

They still look in love, how cute is that?

  3. brin says:

Yeah, I don’t think Julianne would get involved other than being a supportive friend to Annette.

  4. Kaye1 says:

I love that Annette doesn’t have a scary botox/filler face but she could use a softer looking pair of red carpet glasses.

  5. orion70 says:

I love her crazy hair and glasses.

  6. eva says:

@kaye1 – I’m cracking up over your thoughts on her glasses.
I actually LOVE her glasses and tried to find a source or similar style for myself. Her’s are Jono Hennessy and unfortunately way out of my price range. I searched and found her frames are approx $800 ….and hard to find in the US.

I usually like shoe p*rn and now I’m moving on to eye wear p*rn.

I read a blind item to the effect that Annette was on the verge of leaving him over this but wanted to wait until after the Oscars to see if this was her year. I hope they work it out.

  8. Jacq says:

If they we were true friends, they would not let one another leave the house looking like that. I think if Annette can stay with a notorious philanderer, that they can weather a private sex-change storm.

  9. devilgirl says:

I love that they supposedly had difficulties because of his “fading” career. I was always under the impression Beatty didn’t want to do films that much anymore. I would hardly call an actor like Beatty a man with a fading career. He doesn’t strike me as a man who would resent or be jealous of his wife being successful, especially at his age.

I like these two as friends too. They have potential to be everything Oprah and Gayle are not.

Two successful women in their own right, egos totally in check, sexy as hell (I’ll have what they’re having, I want my future to look anything like that), and neither has to use the other to get jobs for 30 years straight.

And, they’d have normal, real advice to give each other judging by the normal, real things they say in public (unlike God O) and neither seems totally up their own ass or clueless about their own life while doling out info to masses.

I want them to be bff’s! If it ain’t real, let’s force the issue.

  11. Someone Else says:

I love Maude Lebowski! (Annette Bening’s pretty cool, too.)

Whether or not this is true, I like them as a couple. I hope they’ve worked it out.

  12. mln76 says:

@ Jacq Warren was a notorious philanderer but I don’t think he ever cheated on her. He basically slept with every woman in Hollywood between 1965 and 1990 without ever marrying and then met Annette and settled down. The story according to Warren was that it was love at first sight and he proposed immediately and she accepted even though she was married to someone else. He was pretty open about his womanizing and never wanted to settle down/marry until he met Annette so for some damn reason I believe him. I also have never heard about him with another woman after Annette.

  13. Jesus Christ Superstar says:

While I don’t think this is true, it’s nice to see the tabloids making up a story of female camaraderie rather than one in which the two females are at each others throats and/or scheming to undermine the other one.

    This.

  15. Ally says:

Still, I think it’s creepy that Beatty’s offering twentysomething actresses (Carey Mulligan) limo rides and walks on the beach. (CeleBitchy, Elle UK)

Sounds like someone trying to platonically relive his glory days.

  16. Ann says:

I love Bening. Always thought she was too cool for Beatty. He also looks way too old for her.

  17. petite says:

Have you seen the fug girls take on Annette and Warren? How he always ALWAYS stands a step in front of her in red carpet photos?

Based on that body language, I can totally buy the not wanting his wife to outshine him part!

  18. Jayna says:

Madonna’s brother said in his tell-all book that Warren asked Madonna to marry him.

  19. Lauren says:

Warren should feel lucky to have Annette as his wife & mother of his children. Watch American Beauty and Running With Scissors..AB is outstanding. I have seen a few of Warren’s films, and he was a legendary playboy. That doesn’t qualify you as a great actor. Most of his films are dreadfully boring. Annette is so underappreciated…she should have won an Oscar for American Beauty.

  20. Megrb says:

I don’t buy it. They don’t seem that close, plus I know Julianne Moore has stated in the past that she is an atheist herself… so why would she “God doesn’t make mistakes”? She might have mentioned her views on the subject if asked by either Annette or Warren, but I don’t she would have been as pushy about it.

  21. d says:

@19: yup. never could stand the guy either.

  22. Tara says:

I remember the story or Warren propsosing being something along the lines of “She was the first woman who told me that she wanted to be a wife and a Mother”. Joan Collins wrote about acting all cool when Warren took PHONE CALLS during coitus with her. I am thinking that maybe many of his conquests tried to be good sports and go along thinking that it would give them some longevity. And Annette was just herself…well, and looked like Annette of course.

  23. Lynda says:

I was totally NOT in love with that movie…the trailer made it look completely different. But, I do love AB and her real face. Warren…meh.

  24. It is certainly good to find a great little website such as this where we all can share personal delemmas without having to worry about embarrassment. I’m fairly sure a number of my friends will definitely be pleased when I tell them all about it as well
