Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr’s nursery is green, literally

New parents Orlando Bloom and Miranda Kerr are known for their environmental activism. Orlando is involved with both UNICEF and Global Green, while Miranda has her own line of organic beauty products and gave birth to son Flynn without pain medications.

So it makes sense that the nursery for Flynn would be “green,” as in eco-friendly. But Mirlando have taken it a step further — the nursery is literally green.

Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom have spent the past few months renovating their home to make room for their new baby boy, Flynn!

“Miranda and Orlando have spent weeks decorating Flynn’s nursery, child-proofing and making it completely eco-friendly,” a source tells In Touch. “They painted it a pale green, and his mattress, blankets and clothes are all organic!”

[In Touch, print edition, February 7, 2011]

Orlando has taken a lengthy break from big Hollywood movies, playing supporting roles in independent films like Main Street and Sympathy for Delicious instead. But he will be back in blockbusters like The Three Musketeers (as the bad guy) and hopefully The Hobbit. He was also just announced as the lead in The Laureate, playing poet Robert Graves.

With her interest in health and beauty, Miranda should be back in bikinis for Victoria’s Secret soon too.

Their passion for the earth and interest in Buddhism are why these two seem to be a good match, and it’s nice to see them raising their son in the same way. But the Orly-loonie part of me is glad Orlando will be back on the big screen, especially as Legolas.

Awww… I like it! I think green is a great color for a nursery. But, instead of a pale green, I think they should have gone with a brighter shade. The nursey could have had a jungle or a rainforest theme! Now, THAT would be awesome.

Lol and, yes, I know I’m kind of tacky. But, seriously, I would make a canopy bed for the baby out of *organic* cloth leaves and buy him all kinds of exotic stuffed animals from the WWF donation catalog. It would be sweet.

  2. Jane says:

I was wondering why Kaiser wasn’t ripping into these two for being so uber-pretentious, then I realized this was written by sammie323. Who the heck are you?

  3. Bellatrix says:

@Jane: Sammie323 is an occasional writer for Celebitchy and has been so for quite a while… πŸ˜‰

  4. LindyLou says:

Jane, if you paid attention, sammie is on the writing staff but not a full time contributor. Check the “Writers” tab at the top of the page. πŸ™‚

  5. Bodhi says:

Good thing they are rich as hell. All organic everything is EXPENSIVE!! That being said, I’d do the same if I could afford it. πŸ™‚ I love their little family. So cute!!

  6. Kara says:

@Jane: How is being eco-conscious uber-pretentious? Get off your ass and go and see how beautiful nature really is.

  7. Azurea says:

What adorable photos! I love seeing a man cuddle a newborn.

  8. brin says:

They are a cool little family unit.

  9. Isa says:

Eco friendly paint is hella expensive. I wish I could afford it.

  10. Tiffany says:

I agree with you sammie. The more and more I read about them, they really seem like a cute couple that fit together. I even appreciate the way they introduced Flynn. Thank you Twitter (that will be the only time you will hear that from me without sarcastic undertones).

  11. Aries_Mira says:

They look so happy together, and they are a lovely family.

I have to agree though, as much as I would love to purchase everything organic (food, clothing, anything for house renovations) it can get extremely pricey! I simply don’t have that kind of money.

  12. sammie323 says:

    @Jane

I’m one of the Orly-loonies Kaiser occasionally writes about πŸ™‚

But I don’t think this is overly pretentious. I like when people try to be eco-friendly, especially pretty actors with great cheekbones.

  13. Cherry Rose says:

    They make a really cute couple, and even cuter parents. And their baby is so cute. ^.^;

  14. Gwen says:

That’s it! No more Orlando-posts for me. That baby makes my ovaries SCREAM for one more baby πŸ˜€ He is so adorable!

  15. Belle Epoch says:

Now that they have a baby, expect them to get more into eco-causes than ever.

Somehow the old farts in the US government missed the memo that they are leaving the world for their children. To clean up.

This generation understands that we need to make an effort. Money certainly helps, but good for them anyway.

  16. Courtney says:

um have you people ever heard of being gender neutral for a baby nursery or that your not actually supposed to put stuffed annimals in a babies crib because of choking hazzards to the baby. oh by the way not all babies actually sleep in their nursery anyway I never did and turned out perfectly fine. Miranda and Orlando seem a bit pretentous to me which not all entertainers are for example Vanessa Redgrave isn’t nor are her surviving children Joely Richardson & Carlo Nero. not every parent of a boy paints his nursery blue nor does every parent of a girl paint her nursery pink or purple or with rainbows as mine was some go gender nuteral especially if their having twins and the twins are one of each & mommy & daddy are bicostal for work so have more than one nursery to decorate as for example Nick Cannon and Mariah Carey are

  17. Louise says:

I’m not sure why a green(color) nursery deserves a headline and considered odd. It’s not like they did orange or black. I’ve done green and yellow nurseries. Pink and blue seem too obvious and boring. I think a lot of parents are picking non-traditional colors nowadays.

  18. blinditemreader says:

Good for them. I love the photo of Miranda feeding the baby; it oozes love.

  19. Jem says:

Sammie323 has been writing a lot more lately. It’s kind of cool. I actually couldn’t remember the last time I saw Msat write a post. And I don’t know if I’ve ever seen Jaybird or Helen haha.

It’s easy to get confused with the writers, is my point πŸ™‚

  20. buzzaroo says:

I had a rain forest theme for my bubs nursery – dark green it was! I wanted something bright and colourful for my bub.

Now we are trying to sell that house, can’t tell you how many people reel back in horror when they see that green room! No taste I tell you – I love it!! LOL!

  21. I Choose Me says:

His hair!!! I wanna touch his hair. Orlando’s that is.

  22. REALIST says:

Sweet pics. Miranda looks like an enthusiastic new mom in the nursing picture, which I think was posed very tastefully. Besides, we have such a hangup (still) in the US about women nursing, even though the current recommendation from pediatricians is ONE YEAR (that’s correct) for optimum health. It’s a shame that other people can be offended by nursing, because “being discrete” is an unnecessary stress on a new mom. Try nursing in a toilet stall-fun! I’m not saying to whip them out in a fancy restaurant, but you get the picture…
As for “natural” childbirth, I experienced that (not by choice) with my second child. Oh, never wait too long to get to the hospital with any child after the first! The pain was, well, excruciating, but I had a great GYN who made sure I avoided complications. I was out of bed and walking to the bathroom within 20 minutes, something I couldn’t do with my first child-still, I appreciated the doc who hooked me up with the perfect epidural. I can’t imagine having the stamina to go through the hours and hours of labor that typically occurs with a first birth without pain relief of some kind. Just my experience as a 36 year old new mom.
As for the nursery decor, “green” IS pricey, but they have the money and it’s better spent than on some of the things new parents buy (or receive as gifts).
As expectant and now new parents, it’s impossible to go overboard as far as providing for the baby’s safety-it’s instinctive.
Cheers to them. May they have the time and opportunity to relish Flynn as a baby and a toddler, because once he hits pre-school, time will fly!

  23. Boromir's bytch says:

Not feeling snarky enough to leave my original comment. Can’t hate on Orli today.

  24. jr says:

    first pic….really cute.

  25. facingReality says:

How many uber-private “celeb” parents report what color their nursery is? Everything these two do are media set-ups and now they’re bringing a little baby into their efforts to remain relevant in the public eyes. When was the last time Orlando actually DID anything humanitarian, for Unicef or Global Green? I pulled someone out of the way of a speeding car at a traffic junction a couple of years ago, I don’t STILL talk about it or try to get praise for it. Orlando got lucky to have gotten picked by Peter Jackson for LoTR but he’s done nothing to be a better actor in succeeding years, so A-list he may have started out, he’s BARELY even B-list now. I hope he doesn’t get cast in The Hobbit cos the money can be put to so much better use.
Miranda kept crowing up and down the village square that she gave birth without drugs or painkillers, after an ardous and hard 27hour labor. She posted in her personal blog that she was INDUCED so my question to mothers here: how do you get induced WITHOUT drugs, AT A HOSPITAL, and then have a 27hr labor after being induced?
And her organic beauty product, she swears on her kora blog that her products are EcoCert certified organic. Well, her products are NOT certified organic, by EcoCert or any other certification organisation. I know because I bought her product when I was in Oz at DJ and broke out when I used it. Wrote to her on the kora blog and asked her about it, she kept stating it was Ecocert certified 100% organic, and instead of saying maybe the product was not suitable for my skin-type, she actually tried to get me to buy more of her product…so I checked with Ecocert and they say they never heard of her skincare line. I’ve since complained with them about her claims of EcoCert’s certification of her kora crap.
I practice Nicherin Buddhism and it’s NOT just about chanting and being green. There is much more to being Buddhists than that, and nowhere does it advocate famewhoring, especially using a child.

  26. Girl says:

Doesn’t seem too pretentious to me. Sounds like they are putting their principles into action. Good for them. I wonder what their take on cloth diapering is (merely out of curiosity)

  27. I think is lovely that they are using their “celebrity” status to inspire people to go organic. If we all start buying organic products, their prices will gradually go down to where we can all afford it.
