Just because Kid combines Hip Hop elements into his sound (along with southern/country rock), he most certainly isn't a wannabe. In fact, he's one of the first (if not the first) artist to do this successfully. And he makes no secret of his admiration for classic country greats like Hank Williams (Senior and Junior), Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, etc. Plus, he's admits he's not from the 'hood, so to speak: "I'm not straight out of Compton, I'm straight out the trailer."
