Another total BS problem- not every instance of weak will is a disease or an addiction. Some people just can’t control themselves, there’s no need to make them appear noble by turning them into some sort of victim.

I absolutely agree, Dante. Absolutely.

Great photo, CB! He looks as though he wants to dive right down into Gillian’s cleavage

I wonder what the point of rehab is for him, judging by his comments above? He seems to be saying that he’s always going to want more, despite his best intentions. That’s not sex addiction, that’s just plain old skanking about. Which would be fine, and his own business, were he not married. Sounds like sex rehab in this instance is purely for appearances’ sake to make it look like he’s trying to do something about it.
(Still love him in Californication tho’, skank or no skank. Sounds just like his character – life imitating art?)

You should read the original article that Celebitchy linked, Geronimo – I just finished reading it thru, it’s awesome –

He’s not some lecherous, crazy sex fiend, you guys.

The guy is a cheating asshole. but yeah, label it a sex-addiction and suddenly you’re a victim with a disorder. BS. Tea, don’t fall for this nonsense and get out of there.

LMAO!!!!!!!!! Mulders a sexaholic! Thats fucking awesome! The SEX-files lol!

Is this actually a recognized medical problem now? Or an excuse for cheating jerks?

He does realise that women feel exactly the same things as men but somehow manage to reign it in, right? That’s why we get so pissed off with guys talking about things like this as though it were an inescapable emotional event.
I also wonder if he talked to his wife just before he felt he was descending into a spiral. It would hurt, sure, but it would be better than doing it after doing other people.

@snowblood – I really like him, he gives great interview and is an interesting guy, but that doesn’t change the fact that he’s a sefish, dick-led, cheating asshole who can’t keep it in his pants.
Announcing to the world at large that he’s undergoing ‘sex addiction’ therapy doesn’t exactly show much respect or consideration for his wife’s feelings. Does his wife need everyone to know about this? I don’t think so. Why not just deal with it privately and stop making it all about him?

I think he announced it because it would have been found out by the press anyway, and this seemed a way of being less secretive about it.

More importantly, geronimo, do his kids need to know about this? How embarrassing for them.

Amen Dante & Geronimo. I bet that’s why she planned the move in the first place, to try and protect the kids and get them out of LA.

Theres gonna be a lot of judgement around this as an addiction or just weak will. People acn be addicted to anything, work, cleaning, fashion, thinness, muscles, drugs, drink, food, tv- you name it. Whatever someone converts into an escape from what they dont want to face. Some are just more common or ‘socially acceptable’ addictions.

I suppose all that healthy food and working out explain why his sex drive hasn’t diminished. He is an intelligent cheating douchebag, I’ll give him that. I must admit, I find the whole ‘sex addiction’ suspect. You are right, heehee about the fact that people can become addicted to all sorts of things; I think it’s linked to obsessive/compulsive behaviour, but this particular one is hard to believe.

it´s an illness just like alcoholism or drug abuse. the addict suffers the same symptoms, including the guilt and shame spirale. but it´s way easier to attack him by saying his addiction is just a lame excuse for cheating, right? just google sexual addiction and read the wiki post. it´s not just some weird way to explain his sex drive…it´s serious.

I was so sad and disappointed by this. I had a big crush on Duchovney when he was on The X-Files–I was married at the time, so it wasn’t like I had his picture over my bed or anything, but I loved the show and the character of Mulder and I thought David Duchovney was witty and intelligent.
I haven’t really thought much about him in years. I watched one episode of ‘Californication’ and thought it was stupid and never bothered again.
Still, I feel disillusioned.
I like his wife, Tea Leonie, too. I’ve read/seen interviews with her and she always seemed up-front and funny.
I was so amazed by this I even looked up sexual addiction on the Internet.
It doesn’t necessarily mean just cheating. It can be using excessive pornography, voyerism, using prostitutes, etc.
I have always thought that it was just self-indulgent behaviour and labelling it an addiction was a way of not taking full responsibility.
But, maybe I’m being unfair. Maybe it CAN be an addiction..I don’t know.
On DListed, it was suggested that the reason he announced it is because there might be some big scandal about him that is just about to break.
That could be.
You know, David and Tea’s daughter was born around the same time my daughter was born. I am sure there is no way to keep this from their 9-year-old girl. I feel so bad for her. How embarassing would this be? I mean, forever, because something like “Your Daddy is a sex-addict” is just never going to go away.

Well said Czarina. I’ve always liked Tea Leoni and when she married him, I thought it was an adorable match. I normally can’t stand cheating a@@holes, but I hope they can work it out. They just seem so ‘normal’ together.

@Anni – don’t think that’s really what people are saying here. Not so much a denial of the seriousness of real sexual addiction, just that it’s not necessarily the case here – ie. what DD is ‘suffering from’ is just common or garden dick-frenzy and it’s being dressed up, for PR purposes, as sexual addiction.
But, it may turn out to be exactly that, sex addiction, in which case he’s taking the right steps by getting treatment.

Wow, how cool would it be if Mulder & Scully ended up together? I mean, it would be bad for Tea & whoever Gillian is with, but the dreams of X-Files fanboys (and girls) would come true!
But the whole Mulder-Sex-Addiction thing was always an old rumor, before he even got with Tea. It probably helped with the ratings of X-Files.
Sigh. I can’t help it – even though he’s a ZOMG HOMEWRECKER, my heart still belongs to Mulder.

I guess maybe he didn’t have to do that much research for his character from Californication. I LOVE THAT SHOW!!!!

Id love to think its just a publicity stunt for Californication but unfortunately he’s probably just another cheating douche-bag.
Anybody recall Michael Douglas was one of the first stars to pull this stunt. Got caught cheating repeatedly on his wife and then cried that he had a horrible sex addiction and he was a victim. He ended up divorced and his wife took him to the cleaners as she should have!

Amen to czarina; I’ve always had a soft spot for DD, too. Tea just seemed like the perfect match, and I’ve cheered for them their whole marriage. Only time will tell what’s really going on with him, but I wish that family all the luck in the world.
Signed,

“it´s an illness just like alcoholism or drug abuse”
Correction–it is a BEHAVIORAL CHOICE just like alcoholism or drug abuse.
I know most people will disagree with me on that, and I fully recognize that some people have a much harder time than others to conquer these addictions, but I just don’t see them as diseases…or perhaps I should say they are diseases brought on strictly by behaviors.
Report this comment as spam or abuse
Well, could go round in circles here. The behaviour is part of the addiction, not the addict. That’s of course if you believe it to be a disease, which I do.

When I read about this story yesterday, it took me completely by surprise. I thought they had one of the most rock-solid marriages in Hollywood. There was never a drip of gossip that David even turned his head to look at another woman. Steven Tyler entered this clinic a few years ago, but he’s a rock star and likes his ladies. No big deal. But David & Tea?? I’m going to go “DUH” on you guys, but this can only mean he cheated on her over, and over again.
They’ll work it out. I don’t see this couple separating. Tea will “Stand by Her Man”.

I agree with Dante, this is BS, just another excuse for men to cheat.

This would be funny were it not absurd. The excuses people will come up with for their stupidity. Sex addiction? My foot! What next? Farting addiction for those who have no friends? People should own up to their actions and stop blaming cooked up conditions. I guess it makes them feel better.
I have never liked Duchovny and what little neutrality I had was erased by that excuse of a show californification watched it 3 times and decided, enough.
Maybe someone should take away the award he won for the show since he was not acting. Just being his perverted/skanky self.

Farting addiction for those who have no friends?
Lola, this will go down as a classic line. Hilarious!!!!!

I thought I read somewhere that despite all the sexual tension on screen between Mulder and Scully, that Anderson and Duchovny actually couldn’t stand each other in real life. . .
That being said, I’d bone either of them. Or both at the same time. Dirty Dana and . . .foxy Fox. Yes!

JaundiceMac: I had heard that, too, that Gillian Anderson and David Duchovney weren’t particularly friendly off-set.
Anderson was always amazing as Scully, but off screen (in interviews) she came across as a complete flake. (and now I’m forced to wonder if David had wierd ‘predilections’ even back then?)
Guess you can’t love all your co-workers, but it must have been tough to work closely with someone you basically don’t like 16 hrs a day for years.
And they DID have great chemistry on screen…
Screen chemistry is obviously different than real life. I know in the movies Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman made together when they were married they had NO on-screen chemistry at all.

I’ve always had a feeling he would admit it eventually. He played a sex addict in “Trust the Man”. His character, Mulder, in The X-files always watched porn and read playboy mags, he was in Sex and the City, his character Hank on Californication is sex addict too…I mean, come on. This was coming.
I wonder if him and Gillian Anderson have ever done it…what I’d give to know the answer!
Report this comment as spam or abuse
After saying all that, I must also say I’d do him or Gillian in a heartbeat. They’re both effing hot as hell!!!! And I’m straight. I’ve just always had a thing for Mulder and Scully, what can I say?
Report this comment as spam or abuse
Sounds like he had just been cheating so much it became flagrant and he couldn’t stop wanting different pieces of a@@. At least he’s trying not to lose his family. Anyone that has been married for more than say, 7 years+ starts fantasizing , male or female. It’s just how you handle it. And who are these married men screwing? Single and married women, the marrieds just keep it a secret better.

The timing of this seems pretty handy in relation to the movie release. Aging male Hollywood star admits to sex addiction – maybe trying to give him back a little oomph???
Report this comment as spam or abuse
Trashaddict: I could see your point, except that David Duchovney is not that big a star (at least not big enough to stage a sex addiction and expect it give him ‘ooomph’), and the X-Files movie already came out and did badly this summer, so it’s too late for that.
Yeah, I know what you mean; that celebs will to A LOT for publicity, even if its wierd or lip-curling. I would doubt that in this case, though, because David and Tea have two children, and I can’t imagine them putting the kids through the publicity of this (and the jokes that will go on forever, let’s face it) just as a stunt. And its got to be humiliating for Tea.

Oh Lordy, he can go take out his sex addiction on me. I’ll be his therapy!
I don’t really care much about Téa. She annoys me to no end and always has. Sure, it’s not a great situation because of the kids, but her? Pfff…

Who is that woman in the picture with him? It is not Tea Leoni. This woman in the picture is far more attractive than Tea Leoni.

i think thats gillian anderson
Report this comment as spam or abuse
What I think is he has been nursing this addiction to sex or whatever you call it – his proclivities – for quite awhile now, by pursuing and accepting sex-related roles. He knew what he was doing, he just got caught is all.
I never thought he was that hot anyway. Gillian Anderson, now SHE’s hot.

Best wishes to you David!

Addiction is addiction is addiction…..
His minimizing his behavior in these interviews is very common with sex addiction. It is part of the lie the addict tells themselves, “I am normal just like other guys”. It’s denial. Unfortunately, it usually blows up in the face of the addict and their loved ones before it is properly addressed.
It was going to be released by a tabloid magazine due to another patient that was in treatment at the same center. Not cool…they were forced to face this publicly.

Some addicts get so caught up in porn that they don’t want to have sex with other woman. They have sex with themselves. They can grow to prefer it over sex with a real life person.
On the other hand in it’s latter stages sex is not much fun for the addict or their partner as the partner ends up feeling like a ‘vessel’ to the addict….just a body..a cavity. It could be the body of anyone. The addict has difficulty feeling emotion or connecting to their partner. It is an experience of isolation.
People should really make a bit of effort to understand what sexual addiction is and is not.

“Some addicts get so caught up in porn that they don’t want to have sex with other woman. ”
You don’t need to be a “sex addict” to not want to have sex with a woman. The same thing can happen with a bad divorce… that is they (man or woman) don’t want to ever get involved with someone ever again.
I know of a couple of people who are divorced and have absolutely *NO* interest in having another relationship. From their point of view, porn and the odd strip club is a much safer proposition… especially if you’re a guy and live in the US with that wacky legal system down there.
