I normally don’t give a crap about Gretchen Mol, but I saw these photos and several things surprised me: first, Gretchen is pregnant! With her second baby – which is shocking to me for some reason, because I had no memory of her first pregnancy. Secondly, I was surprised that she looked so good. The dress is Marchesa, and it looks great on her, it’s the right color for her, and the fit is amazing. Third surprise: Gretchen is still working! She’s got a gig on Boardwalk Empire, which I don’t watch, so I didn’t realize she had a job. Hm… she has a job AND she’s wearing Marchesa. Is this all Harvey Weinstein’s doing…? Gross, I know, but now whenever I see Gretchen, I always think of Lainey’s blind item from 2009. So… Gretchen is pregnant again. Interesting.
Boardwalk Empire star Gretchen Mol looked gorgeous and glowing as she arrived on the red carpet in New York last night. The actress dressed her growing baby bump in a flowing turquoise Grecian gown. She was attending the 63rd Annual Writers Guild Awards with her husband Tod ‘Kip’ William.
Looking positively stunning in the Marchesa dress, she has joined the likes of Natalie Portman and Jane Krowlicki, who both recently lit up the Screen Actors Guild Awards’ red carpet in form-fitting gowns which showed off their own growing bumps.
Gretchen, who is due to give birth this month, looks to have chosen the dress for comfort. With an empire line that cuts just underneath the bust, the flowing design complimented the actress’s large baby bump whilst not being too restrictive.
Accompanied by her handsome husband, she kept the focus on her dress by downplaying her accessories. With just a pair a chandelier earrings and her wedding ring, she addressed all of the attention to the flowing frock.
Gretchen announced her pregnancy last year at a film première. And her timing for the birth couldn’t be any better. Due this month, she is currently on break from filming her hit show Boardwalk Empire. She has a recurring role on the HBO hit series as Gillian Darmody, a showgirl at the Beaux Arts. Gretchen’s impending arrival will be her second child.
The actress recently said that she hasn’t got as nice a reaction as when she was pregnant with her first baby.
‘It’s interesting the reaction … when people see you and say, “Oh, when are you due? Is it your first?” ‘ she told People magazine. ‘And you say, “No, it’s my second,” they’re like, “Oh, disappointed sigh.” Like, it’s just not as sweet and dramatic.’

If the gossip and blind items are true, then how did she get the role in Boardwalk Empire? Harvey Weinstein isn’t one of their (many) producers! Maybe she got the part on merit. If you believe that, good luck to you.

I watched a few episodes of Boardwalk Empire and it was decent and seems to be well written I haven’t had the time or desire to watch the rest of the season On Demand. Now between Gretchen and Paz De La Huerta I am thinking many of the actresses on that show are the product of the casting couch.
If Lainey’s blind is about her, I wonder if wearing Marchesa is Gretchen’s public ode/plea to Weinstein to help her out again. I’m not usually a Marchesa fan, but I’m liking the sparkles and the color.
I hope the kid doesn’t get the husbands nose.
@mln76—I’ve never seen the show and have only recently heard about Paz. She seems to be a hot mess who shouldn’t drink so much at events.

Boardwalk Empire is amazing, best show on tv. Gretchen is great in her role and she has the right look for something set in the 20’s. Paz’s character is a hot mess so I guess it’s a good fit…but I hope she gets wacked in season 2.

The empire-waist dress style was truly made for pregnant women, its such a flattering look when a little lady has a big belly. It provides just enough room and fabric to comfortably cover the bump, while framing the face with an elegant décolletage.
If I was Gisele, I would make a sweeping statement like “It should be a law that only pregnant women can wear empire-waist dresses and they must wear them all the time!”

I want to know how Steve Buscemi got the lead. What were they thinking? Even he is surprised.
He is a great character actor, but I think the series would be even more popular if they had cast someone a little better looking, not even handsome, just someone with some presence and charisma.

I never thought much about Gretchen until “Life on Mars (US).” The show kind of blew, but she was so adorable on it, and actually got excited to hear she’s pregnant again. Her firstborn, the unfortunately named Ptolemy, is one of the cutest celeb babies ever, and mom looks fab here.

This is exactly where Blake Lively’s career will be in about 5-10 years. I remember when Gretchen was the It Girl on covers of magazines and was Harvey’s hoe (in return for his getting her roles) The sad thing was in a couple of her roles I thought she was good and now she’s playing Michael Pitt’s mother for god sake. She’s only 9 YEARS OLDER then him!!!
I adore Boardwalk Empire. I am horrified to admit that the show has made me have a crush on Steve Buscemi. I know. Don’t even.
As for the pics, I love the one where she’s all “look at me and my hot husband, I’m so ethereal” and she’s totally cross eyed. That being said, she is very pretty and looks great pregnant.
She looks great, the dress is pretty, damn shame she’s never been able to act.
I for one have loved Buscemi since he the he did Mystery Train. He is a gifted actor who is quirky and has an extreme amount of range. In fact he’s the reason I watched the show in the first place.
But the person that Buscemi’s character was based on wasn’t a handsome guy. Google Nucky Thompson and you’ll see why he’s a better fit. He’s supposed to be a blue collar guy from the early 1900’s not a movie star.
I think Buscemi is fantastic in the roll, and to me Michael Pitt is always going to be Michelle William’s boyfriend from Dawson’s. Just right for the role he’s in, but not for the lead. Even with the drunkin floozy (who I can’t stand, but that’s the point) the casting for that show is fantastic.
I really like Gretchen and I feel sick on her behalf whenever I hear Harvey’s name. We don’t know for a fact that she was on the couch, or do we? But either way, the story may not go away. 🙁
Julia Ormond got similar hype as being the next hugest movie star of the universe. She had done that one film with Brad Pitt where she was the only woman. Then “Sabrina” and “First Knight,” and “Smilla’s Sense of Snow” came out and all three tanked. If I were a young actress in Hollywood, I’d never agree to do a “the next big thing” cover for Vanity Fair. It’s a career killer.

I just cant care about BE, no matter how much astroturfing it garners in the media. Im so over the whole vintage gangster thing with it’s middle class white guy wish fulfillment bullshit; the female characters are frankly insulting and at this point they should just merge all these crap genres and chuck some vampires with superpowers in there.

I’m going to disagree that that is a good color on her, as it is bringing out her blue veins! I’d prefer to see something that brings out the blush colors. This one makes her look like she’s ready for a slab at the morgue.
