Gwyneth Paltrow shakes her goop thang with Cee Lo Green: love or hate it?

goop1

Perhaps I should have sat through the Grammys, if only to see this – Gwyneth Paltrow’s rhythm-less ass shaking her goop thing on top of a piano played by Cee Lo Green. Surrounded by Muppets. Here’s a question: wouldn’t this performance have been completely awesome and wonderful if it was just Cee Lo Green and the Muppets? It would have been tight, right? But Goop had to go all Olivia Newton-John and wear a skin-tight black catsuit and hoist her goop onto the piano. Classic.

It wasn’t as horrible as it could have been, and it wasn’t as bad as a was expecting. I like that Goop wasn’t out there first thing, like she and Cee Lo are musical equals. She comes out later, like she’s the diva everyone has been waiting for. So… how did she do, in general? The singing didn’t make me want to gauge out my eardrums, but visually, I was still assaulted. The catsuit, the shoes, Dame Goopy draped on the piano… *shudder*.

As soon as she crawled up on the piano, I was done.

Then she starting crawling towards CeeLo and I started laughing at how dumb she looked.

She should have stuck to standing and singing.

Instead of trying desperately to recreate Michelle Pfeiffer’s performance from The Fabulous Baker Boys.

  2. Justaposter says:

Oh come on.. it wasn’t that bad! It was fun and I thought she did a pretty darn good job.

Cee Lo outdoing Elton! Totally cracked me up!

  3. Lem says:

    hey, I liked the shoes
    .
it was as painful as watching Swifty try to be sexy in those cover girl commercials
    .
last night was the first time I’ve ever thought “wow, if there was an event for her hubby to be supportive…poor Goop”

  4. renai(jrt) says:

that was horrible…..she is no small woman, but it looks like she starved herself to get into that costume, and she still looks like an amazon of a woman standing on that piano…see what happens when she get a little role to sing in a movie….Pandora’s box…. not good at all…….bring back pink and the trapeze

  5. devilgirl says:

Her performance wasn’t bad, but her part was so unnecessary. I liken it to when a band pulls someone on stage and let’s them sing, and oddly the person they picked can do a fair job.

Gwen needs to loosen up though. She was as stiff as a board and looked terrified she would screw up the entire performance.

  6. Brittany says:

I muted it as soon as she came out.

Seriously, just bc she did this song on Glee does not mean she needs to do it live with him.

An actor singing on Glee does not make you a musician!!!

  7. jinni says:

The performance looked like a musical segment on “Sesame Street” and Cee-lo was dressed like the love child of Elton John and George Clinton from P-Funk.

She wasn’t bad, but the whole time I kept thinking “Why is Gwyneth Paltrow there?”. I thought her fake “blaccent” (at 2:59) for the talking part of the performance was annoying.

I wish that Cee-lo had done this duet with Adele or someone whose voice compliments his/sounds more soulful.

  8. shelllley says:

I really really wanted to hate it when I heard she was going to be there but I loved it…. it was the most entertained I was all night.
It was fun and it seemed like that’s how GP was treating it… like good fun. not too “I’m a big star so look at me” serious.
    JMO…..

  9. Lauren says:

Awkward torture…the Muppets have better rhythm than Goop. (Acting is Goop-a-dope’s forte not singing!)

  10. Isabel says:

Nonononono…wtf is up with the haterade!?

I cannot STAND the Goop, but her vocals were outstanding. It’s pretty much undeniable. I also thought she looked like she was having fun, despite how low-brow it was in the Goop Universe.

The whole thing was a visual assault, and I loved it. They did a fantastic job. FRAGGLE ROCK. Love it!

  11. mln76 says:

Making it a Muppet themed performance was the only thing that made it passable-at least they weren’t taking themselves seriously. I wish they had put Statler & Waldorf on at the end to heckle them. The other guy in Gnarls Barkley must be so glad he got out before it came to this.

  12. Henry says:

I thought she was fantastic ! Of course I’ve been a fan of her singing for years now.. since her two duets which I downloaded over 7 years ago and played over and over and over. Always loved her voice. Wish she would put out a cd I would for sure buy it. In fact I think she does a much better job on that song than he did, it was just flat until she came out.

  13. Katija says:

She missed a line at 4:05, right?

  14. dread pirate cuervo says:

Loved it!!!!! & I covet her shoes!

  15. My Darling Pinkett says:

I liked it. They were fun to watch. I did feel sorry for Cee Lo wearing that weird bird outfit, though.

  16. Tiffany says:

With this day I am going to not get on the GOOP bashing bandwagon. I liked it and thought it was cute. The shoes looked uncomfortable so I can understand her not being able to shake her groove thang, but all in all I really liked it.

  17. InVain says:

Cee Lo was GREAT. The whole situation was just totally over the top…totally Elton, which only these 2 can pull off. Gwyneth wasn’t THAT bad…my comment on that was that she sings better than Swifty…but I guess that’s not saying much. I didn’t hate it, I’ve seen worse. At this point, I’ll take her over Christina any day.

P.S. The background singers/puppets were AWESOME.

  18. renai(jrt) says:

you hit the nail on the head. it was like Sandy from Grease meets the mummers parade…… all it needed was John Travolta dresses as a woman…

  19. Quest says:

She actually wasn’t bad…it was a pity that the muppets had more rhythm than she did. I did feel the urge to gauge out my eyeballs .

  20. Cel says:

The muppet backing singers are better dancers than her!

  21. mia girl says:

Actually, I think she looked great, sounded pretty good, but man – that piano crawling was just embarrassing.

I turned to my husband and said “what do you think of her on that piano?” and he said “I find her negative-sexy, so it’s as interesting as watching paint dry”

  22. Lem says:

    jrt: I kept asking… where’s P!nk?

  23. sandip says:

I loved it, such an unexpected duo or with the muppets group. It was wonderful and fun, you could see that they put the time in and it was really cute.

  24. flutters says:

I agree Gwyneth wasn’t needed but she just added to the ridiculous awesomeness of the whole thing. She seemed to be having fun and so did Cee Lo Green. I was totally entertained and it helped that she actually sang decent and live. It was better than her country music awards performance.

  25. renai(jrt) says:

I know… is pink pregnant or somthing??They couldn’t get pink so Gwenny was the next best thing…
I still get goosebumps whenever I see that Grammy performance of hers.

  26. nellie says:

I’m not a Gwyneth fan by any means but she honestly did not sound bad, actually she was quite good. I hate admitting that but i will give her credit because she sounded good. Her dance moves on the otherhand are just tragic a wet chicken has more rhythm.

  27. Rachel says:

Best performance of the night. GOOPy rocked. Girl stood up on a piano in killer heels and didn’t fall. Christina Aguilera needs to give her a call to find out how it’s done.

  28. Dana M says:

She wasn’t that bad. I do agree that she seemed stiff, but will blame the shoes. They seemed really heard to walk and dance with. The muppets were a cute touch. Nice to see that she wore black and Cee Lo wore the colorful out fit. Nice number overall, IMO.

  29. dorothy says:

Not bad really. Takes alot of guts on her part to get up there given what everyone says about her.

  30. Ginevra says:

Omg. That was almost painful to watch (after Gwyneth’s entrance). She was so awkward on top of that piano. Also, I don’t think her voice is that great. Maybe it’s just the quality on the computer, I didn’t see it live — but it sounds like she sings through her nose.

  31. T. says:

    ultimate fail

  32. K-MAC says:

    stole the show! Loved it!

  33. L says:

@jinni He was actually wearing a Elton John costume. Right down to the breast plate. http://www.pages.drexel.edu/~ces452/elton/ej_feather_3_l.jpg

I kept hoping she’d slip and fall on the piano. It was a awesome performance until she showed up. Totally ruined it for me.

  34. KLP says:

Say what you want, my friends and I all loved it!! Gweneth looked and sounded great and the performance was entertaining and fun!!

  35. Kbomb says:

I felt embarrassed for everyone involved. Cee Lo forgot his own words. Goopy was awkward. The muppets? WTF? I was waiting for someone to come and go “hahaha just kidding”.

  36. Im not a Goop fan at all but I have to say her signing wasnt bad. Her stage presence sucked but she is not a trainer singer. At one point it looked like she was about to fall off the piano. This is as good as her signing career is going to get. I don’t see people buying a song or an album from her. Overall, the performance was fun and I enjoyed it.

  37. Ferguson. says:

    I actually liked it.

  38. HRH says:

I thought she was great, and they were obviously aiming for fun and ridiculous with the set/costumes/muppets. Loved her shoes and earrings – she sounded good!

  39. macey says:

I was soo hoping she’d fall off that piano.
her singing wasnt too bad but I thought she was trying too hard to be something she isnt… a musician.

  40. mln76 says:

BTW can Gwenyth’s Oscar expire now? She really seems to have done her best to prove the Academy wrong.

  41. Laura says:

I’m sorry, but homegirl can sing. I’d much rather listen to her, as someone who can actually sing live, than katy perry or rihanna or taylor swift any day.

  42. Melissa says:

She should have worn shorter heels- it was so obvious she could not walk properly in them (could anybody?)

  43. Babalon says:

I don’t care for her but I think she did a pretty good job.

  44. Tazina says:

I liked it. She has a good voice and looked great.

  45. sassenach says:

She didn’t that bad but that sliding around on the piano business?? I felt so embarrassed for her. Fontrum.

  46. guesty says:

we were reading tweets while watching this mess…lol..ing so hard we couldn’t even breathe! hysterical. gotta go with loved it.

  47. JuJuBee says:

Goop neeeds to give it a rest already. Her white girl rhythm and too high shoes made her stick out like a sore thumb. That song needed someone who could groove. There is nothing sexy about Goop and that piano crawling was just sad.

  48. Runs with Scissors says:

She can carry a tune, but her voice has no depth whatsoever.

Also, OMG she looked so scrawny in that stupid body suit, she has no a$$. This was just embarrassing.

    Loved the muppets.

Was Cee Lo supposed to be dressed like the NBC Peacock or something? I get the Elton John thing, but it just seemed so contrived for NBC.

  49. Greenraygirl says:

    Autotune lets anyone sing.
Even Gwyneth Paltry in her stripper shoes.
Perhaps she wants her husband to notice her?
Makes me cringe. Laced with a note of pity.

  50. Rasputina says:

While she’s an okay vocalist, her voice is rather generic, boring actually. I couldn’t tell her apart from other female singers singing in her vocal style. No songs of praise for me.

  51. Moreaces says:

Ok, here I am crawling from under my rock, I did not know that GP was a singer. I think the performance as a whole was cute and well done, Also I think individualy Gwen did a good job, she may be a “starts with B, Ends with H” but I think she did a good job.

  52. Jen says:

Good Lord, Goopie, it’s the GRAMMYS….wear some shoes you can move in. I recognized the grip of terror on the stairs. Seriously, take the shoes down an inch or two so you can dance instead of kind of shaking your hips.

Couldn’t say one word about her vocals ’cause she was pretty much drowned out.

  53. Vanessa says:

She actually sang ok. But the whole thing about appearing in every music awards show reeks of desperation to me. I dont care for her but she is an ok actress, hasnt been around much until lately and now I feel like she is trying to shove herself at us.

  54. SEF says:

She was fine but unnecessary . . . I love Cee-lo so much and I wished he had just made it HIS moment (oh, and the Muppets’).

  55. Michael says:

    SHE IS HORRRRIBLE

  56. TeeTee says:

She wasn’t too bad, I was focused on her in those super high heels..

I did laugh when she got on the piano.

  57. dh says:

I watched this last night and thought- I cant wait to read the celebitchy posts!!! She sings just fine, but feather earrings? Piano humping? Body suit? I was left feeling like Chris Martin is probably…ashamed?

  58. Dea says:

She did great actually. I do not think she is extremely talented but I think she is above average both as an actress and as a singer.

  59. Kat says:

Cee Lo and the puppets were great. Goopy was tragic. I kept hoping that she’d fall off the piano.

  60. Naw, Bruh. I'm Good says:

Gwyn alone? Meh. She kinda looked like an NFL wife at a fundraiser who’d had one too many sidecars up on that piano and all in his face. She wasn’t bad, tho. The mean hate is kinda unwarranted.

Happy Cee Lo Lovefest Day! Reposting from a previous comment on my love for all things CarlosCarlitoGreenygreen. Have and will always love the Love Machine’s farts. His singing is divine, also.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aA7vyGEjnDs

**Call me a sellout but I loved the Elmo/Mummer strut he and Gwyngwyn put on. It was the funnest thing of the night:-)** A new millenium Elton homage with Dr. Teeth and a Bond girl thrown in for good measure. Nobody coulda done it better:-)

Maybe next year they can just broadcast The Annual Roots Grammy Jam and then post the statue winners in the paper the next day or something. Was it just me or was the show saltines and buttermilk boring? I was almost ready to call Chris Brown and his trampolines out of community service I was so bored.

  61. everlyo says:

she can sing but that doesnt mean she is a “singer” kareoke anyone? BUT the shoes Rawked!

  62. Amanda says:

Her voice I didn’t think was bad, but I would 10000 million times rather have heard Cee-Lo sing! Why on earth was she on this song with him? Because she covered it on Glee? Is she trying to launch a music career? I just don’t get why she came out and sang– and even seemed to sing more of the song than Cee-Lo.

  63. original kate says:

goopy’s voice is very nice, but in a “wow, i didn’t know carol from accounting could sing so well!” kind of way. her gyrations were embarassing to white people everywhere.

  64. Jayna says:

Cee Lo rocked, and Gwynneth did a really good job. She held her own in the duo and was cute as it was a fun song. She had to have been nervous out of her mind. It was the Grammys for Pete’s sake and she’s not in the industry. Kudos to her. But Cee Lo I adore. His album rocks.

  65. C-DUB says:

Her shoes were bad as hell!

  66. OtherChris says:

When she started shaking her non-existent ass, I started laughing. And I say this as someone who also has a non-existent ass but knows better than to try to shake it in public.

  67. womanfromthenorth says:

I really liked it… Cee was a hoot!

  68. melinda says:

Not a fan of Gwenyth. Usually think she is super annoying for many reasons, one being it seems she takes her self soooo seriously. However, I thought she did a great job. I was suprised at how good her voice was and that she could function let alone perform in those shoes! It was nice to see her dress and behave a little silly.

  69. Katie says:

I’m getting tired of this push for Gwyneth the musician. If she was writing her own music and it was good that would be one thing. But there are already plenty of “musicians” out there who have serviceable but not amazing voices. Cee-Lo had a major song and album…why couldn’t they just have him perform by himself? This also lends itself to the idea that Glee is still good and respected, which it isn’t and shouldn’t be, b/c her singing his song on glee is the only reason to pair them up here. Ugh.

I wonder if Chris Martin secretly hates Gwynnie trying to become a musical artist.

  70. poppy says:

i think all 20 of her fans must be here posting today.
paltry sings better than me but she’s not gifted vocally.
if she was she’d have a contract and be barbara streisanding it all over creation… acting and singing her goopy heart out.
she’s not a talented singer; that’s why she has no record deal.
95% of celebitchy readers could sing as well if they sung nothing but the same 5 songs for 9 months with professional help and nothing to do but workout, try on clothes, and practice singing. is she the worst? no. but what was the point of this performance?
oh yeah, she’s got to prove to herself and the world that she’s still relevant.
her agent has been working miracles and overtime the past few months.
too bad she doesn’t hire someone as good to help her with her ridiculous blog.
wake up paltry, your glory days are long gone.

at least her goop wasn’t showing.

    i’m lame and loving it.

  71. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

I didn’t watch the show, so it would be hugely unfair of me to judge her performance based on nothing. I guess I’m just wondering why they couldn’t have let the man sing his own song? Is this a telethon, now? Is this supposed to be the performance that makes me want to fight lockjaw? Is she an obscure, esothetic being upon whom the word must be spread? Was I wearing a hat?

  72. Lisa Turtle says:

The only problem with her performance was her choice of footwear.

    No.

She couldn’t walk. She looked disabled. It was not fashion forward, it was “Look at me hobble! Look how I can’t strut, look how I cling to this railing, and plop myself on the piano. Look at the fear in my eyes as I attempt to balance on these stilts as I try to stand on the top of this piano!”

She sounded very good; Clearly she was not lipsynching. But the visual did not match the audio. Who cares if she sounds good when she is hobbling around the stage? There was nothing dynamic about her movements, because her feet could only do so much.

It was honestly sad. The shoes ruined any chance she may have had at an exciting performance.

  73. gg says:

I thought it was fun and entertaining and am still surprised that she is a pretty decent singer. It was supposed to be goofy and it was.

  74. Vera says:

I haven’t heard any of her singing, save for snip-its from previews of Country Strong and maybe Glee (not so sure about that, though), so I wasn’t expecting much. But, I was pleasantly surprised by her singing. The outfit was good, fit her well, if a bit young. But, she did look stiff. Maybe she just doesn’t move well, maybe it was nerves from standing on a piano on a stage in 5 inch heals. But overall, it was good. And I feel like if it was just Cee Lo they would have had him do the shorter version, as I feel many were doing if they were not really big. But maybe I was just zoning out – it was really long.

  75. LittleFATMe says:

A freakin’ lifetime. That is how long I could’ve gone with out that. Why? WHY DID I PRESS PLAY?!?!

  76. Psyren says:

This performance was by far my favorite of the night, it was ridiculously awesome. And dare I say it? Goopy wasn’t even as awful as I’d expected. That puppet on the drums completely stole the show from both of them though. 😛

  77. coexxi says:

I think she has a nice voice but it does not carry so much… but the biggest problem where these shoes. How can you perform in shoes if you even can’t simply walk in them?

  78. coexxi says:

Oh…. and Chris Martin is a bitch. At least at this event he could have showed up.

  79. JenJen says:

I thought she was drunk when she got spread eagle on the piano and looked like she had a hard time standing up on it. It looked like she had a sweat on her chest at the end, it didn’t take much for someone that is supposed to exercise so much. Maybe she just was that excited over herself.

  80. Lukie says:

    1. The Louboutins we’re HOT! I give her props for saying “screw the red bottoms” and sticking treads on the soles to prevent herself from skidding off the piano & breaking her neck.

    2. I swear, I cannnot stand her. Cannot. Stand. Her. buttttttt…she really wasn’t bad. Her voice is better than that Taylor Swift child. I’m not bitter she performed w/him. He did, after all, personally ask her to join him *shudder*, so I’ll accept it *shudder*

And I totally agree w/the poster that said Cee-Lo Green is the love child of Elton John and P-Funk All Stars. Had he been wrapped in a bed sheet, we would have known exactly who the father was!

  81. Matt says:

I find her insufferable but the performance was tongue in cheek and quite fun. Goopy’s vocals are much better than Katy Perry’s, my god that performance was awful.

  82. Lem says:

she was better than Mick Jagger (yeah I said it AND i mean it)

  83. hyuch says:

cee-lo sounded out of breath. i wonder if his health is good? Maybe thats why he wanted someone to sing with him?

  84. Patricia says:

I am not a big fan of hers (or not) but think she did pretty well. I was expecting a whole lot worse.

It’s ovbvious she’s new to this type of performing – a lot different than modeling/acting – so in light of that she was quite good.

It was silly and entertaining – I don’t think she was going for anything more.

I applaud her for having the balls to go so far outside of her comfort zone.

And who can blame her rigid dancing when she was standing in enormous heels on top of a piano…

I’d have been frozen to the spot – and probably still would have fallen – and wet my hot pants.

  85. Becky says:

Her vocals were good but she should have worn some shoes that she could actually move in. She looked really stiff and awkward-like she was afraid she was going to fall.I wasn’t feeling the catsuit or the crawling on the piano. Still, as much as I’m not a fan (I find her really annoying) I have to admit she has a good voice.

  86. april says:

i also thought what is she doing at the grammys? but it was fun to watch and i liked it!

  87. Jamie says:

I hate GOOPy as much as the next person — but this is the most epic thing I will see all day. Cee Lo in a feathered-headress-furry-gorilla suit and a pug muppet? ULTIMATE!

  88. Catherine says:

Her voice wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be, but the whole thing was just awkward and not the least bit entertaining. I cringed for her a few times.

  89. chasingadalia says:

Still the best performance of the night.

  90. GIA says:

why can’t we just send her home to England and f..orget her? please go raise your indescibably outstanding treefruit and biblical characters and make some jellies!!!

  91. janie says:

she just cant pull off the life of the party part, especially hobbling around on those shoes. she’s more james lipton than beyonce.
    but i liked her earrings.

  92. Diane says:

The woman can’t even carry a tune. I’d love to know what her husband really thinks of his tonedeaf wife deciding that she’s going to be a music star. What’s next for Goopy? Her own line of gourmet baby food?

  93. Mtn Girl says:

I thought her singing was pretty good and props to her for attempting to dance on the piano, I was worried her skinny ass was going to fall off! Stick to acting Gwyneth and no more *writhing* on pianos.

  94. I thought it was a great number and she did a great job. Too bad about the shoes. I really don’t mind her at all and I’m not sure what all the hateration is about, but there sure is a lot of it aimed in her direction. And has been for a while. She’s ok, just has a different life than we do.

  95. Tiffany says:

All hail, Cee-lo Greene! Freaking LOVE him! Love his outfit. Wish the back up dancers were giving the middle finger as a tribute to the real song. He did forget one like at the beginning. (But that don’t mean I can’t get you there)
Goop’s shoes were killer, but that catsuit was awful and she is in desperate need of a sandwich. Way too thin.

Wish more people had the wit to pull off a Cee-lo! Seen Elton live as well and he is great, even though he’s given the crazy suits to Cee-lo!

  96. observer says:

It was awful. Her singing is below average karaoke. I won’t even comment on her dancing.

  97. slim27 says:

i think she looked stunning, and she did put up a fun performance.

  98. Traxie says:

Nothing in that performance was as enjoyable as the delicious thought of Madonna gathering her gay friends around to watch it, or Chris Martin viewing the TV set, head clutched in hands.

  99. kristin says:

she’s so dumb.. she needs C Lo for cred.. i hate how skinny & bland she is..

  100. jocuri noi says:
