David Beckham’s lawsuit against In Touch Weekly was thrown out

These are photos of David Beckham out and about in England with his boys over the weekend. I don’t know which one of the boys seems to be Velcro’d to his dad. Cruz? Perhaps. Even though I wonder how it can be comfortable for David or for Mystery Child Beckham to be carried in that way, I do think these photos are irresistibly cute. David looks hot, and he looks like a great dad. I think he must be a good dad – his kids seem to adore him, and it’s not just a photo-op either. So, David Beckham: great dad, but a womanizing husband? If you believe the rumors, that’s the case. Take for example In Touch Weekly’s cover story (from last year) about David and a hooker named Irma Nici. Nici sold her story to ITW claiming that back in 2007, David hired her for lots of vanilla sex, blow jobs, kissing and some girl-on-girl action. Shortly after the cover story came out, David sued ITW and the hooker. And now the lawsuit against In Touch has just been thrown out! Ouch.

David Beckham’s $25 million libel lawsuit against the publishers of In Touch Weekly was thrown out of court today … but Beckham’s complaint against the woman who claims she had a threesome with the soccer stud is still alive.

Irma Nici alleged in an article last year … she had a series of sexual encounters with Becks for money … one of which was a threesome with another prostitute. David denied these claims.

The judge ruled today that Beckham’s legal team did not prove the publisher acted with malice and therefore threw out the suit. Beckham’s attorney says he’ll appeal.

[From TMZ]

Yeah, with that particular story, In Touch really seemed to be buying the hooker’s story, hook, line and sinker. Was it malicious? Or did they just think they had a good story? Eh. While I think there could have been some “malice” I doubt any judge will turn around the lawsuit on any appeal. However, if David continues to pursue his legal recourses, I can almost guarantee that Radar, Star and other tabloids will continue to dig into David’s extracurricular activities with greater zeal – Radar has already taken the point position on this, publishing several pieces about David’s history of womanizing.

And this is why celebrities don’t sue American tabloids. A couple of weeks ago people were whining why Brad and Angelina didn’t sue Star about their kids having down syndrome. It’s usually a waste of time and money since the lawsuit probably wouldn’t even get to court.

  2. truthSF says:

No wonder celebs don’t sue American tabloids, it’s virtually impossible.

  3. GradStudentEatingHotPockets says:

I think on DListed they also said that the judge through out the case because it was “public interest” and so it didn’t count (or maybe I read it at Jezebel..or I don’t know. I can ‘t remember).

If Beckham is to be believed on this, then it’s SERIOUSLY messed up for people to make up stories (convincing or not) and sell them to tabloid stories to smear people.
And like the above commenters have already said, it shows you WHY people don’t sue the American tabloids. Even if they get a false story and run with it and you fight it, they will dig, dig, dig until they find even one scrap of something dirty and they will magnify it, sensationalize it, and publish it. So messed up.

But honestly, why do I care if Beckham cheats on his wife? What’s the interesting story there? Is he championing for family values or something?

Life is full of people lying about other people. The best thing to do, is ignore it. It is sad that tabloids feel the need to interfere in people’s lives, possibly destroying their relationships, BUT there are those that fuel those tabloids by buying them religiously.

If celebs or non-celebs sued every time someone said/wrote something untrue about them, the courts would be filled w/those cases and nothing else would get done.

I just ignore people and I think celebs should do the same. I don’t always take silence for an admission of guilt, I usually take silence as “I have a life and I am not going to address nonsense”.

i dont know anything about them, but in photographs he always seems genuinely cute and into his kids, which i dont see very frequently with other stars.

  6. Waldemar says:

He won the case in Germany, apparantly he had sued a magazine there too.

I loved it when he came with an itemized account of his coming and going on the days this Irma Nici claims to had sex with him. He so could not do that when Rebecca Loos went public with their affair. And how soon was Posh pregnant after that scandal? Three, four months? Took a bit longer now.

  7. KsGirl says:

Well I don’t know if this is an unpopular opinion but I am a huge fan of American libel laws and think they’re much more ‘fair’ than the UK laws. For anyone who is interested, the past couple of years have seen a real debate start in England about free speech being curtailed through the back door due to their crappy/lax laws. Here’s a link for anyone who is interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_defamation_law#Libel_Tourists (see full link on Wiki, this just links to a specific section)

The word on Beckham, and no one can know if this is true or not (not here, anyway) is that he’s a huge cheater but that he does genuinely love and want to be with Victoria and the kids. Apparently great lengths are gone to to conceal his extracurricular activites.

  8. Marjalane says:

Yeah, I think that whole lawsuit filing was purely for show anyway; Victoria doesn’t like being painted as the cheated on wife.

  9. Quest says:

The Becks seems to be doing pretty well in the parenting department and have a great family (I hope they keep it up).

Statistics has shown that most celeb/sports personalities have had their fill of extra-martial activities, I am not saying it is true or false, just it happens alot. It really is up to the other party to accept/deny/move on when the rumors starts or even when there is material evidence eg “Coby, Tiger, Shaq”. No matter what – tabliods will always exploit any information (good, bad, true or false) it sells and there is a large market for this, it is pathetic really.

  10. Droll says:

I’m surprised some trollop hasn’t come forward with a kid, accusing him of being the father, demanding DNA testing and launching a paternity suit against him.

  11. Tuatara says:

His hair is very swooshy these days.

  12. FatJenny says:

This might explain why Victoria got knocked-up again. He probably fed her some shpeel about how much he loves her and wouldn’t cheat on her, hence, proving it by having another baby. Of course, Victoria bought it.

I still think he’s hot though.

  13. Kim says:

Besides Carol Burnett suing NE for saying she was a drunk, I can’t recall a celeb winning a lawsuit against a American tabloid. We have freedom of speech and he is a public figure. If Victoria got pregnant everyime a tab accused him of cheating they would have 10 kids.

  14. Belle Epoch says:

Will we ever see Victoria pregnant? She has vanished!

  15. asif says:

It’s well-known he was the one demanding Posh get pregant with a 4th child, despite the fact he cheats all the time.

The latest round of cheating stories will have reminded her that he’s the one who wears the trousers in their relationship. It’s more likely she was following his bidding than the other way around.

Kick a ball about, become a god.

  16. Juicy says:

It’s interesting how cavalier posters are about some celebritites and their extra-relationship activities, giving them a pass, but another celebrtiy gets ripped apart and all kinds of awful things are said about them. Maybe it’s because David is a sports hero? Wow, good excuse.
