They got it right, Russell Brand IS the man of the moment in the USA and ALWAYS in the Uk for several years too.

Britney should count herself lucky to be anywhere near him! He’s gorgeous and the best!!

And please we want him back already. He’s our London guy and we want him back!!

I have to say — I have heard all the talk about him being a sex hound. But haven’t heard one single women he’s been with say he’s so great at it. Seems to me he’s just a braggart.

YEAY! on all the love for Peter Kay and his “Phoenix Nights”. Personally, I’m the most fond of his first series “That Peter Kay Thing” and his brilliant standup shows. Ahhh, when he illustrates how drunk dads act at the end of a wedding reception — he inhales helium from a balloon and belts out “Danny Boy” à la the Chipmunks…

RAN, I would seriously doubt they did anything other than have dinner and a chat. Really. Brand’s a sex hound but he’s also quite a compassionate guy – a lot to do with what he’s been through himself. I reckon it’s far more likely he gave her some brotherly advice.

Phoenix Nights. Pure genuis.

Gena, all true. Also, people in the south (UK) themselves have problems with understanding northern accents, particularly Geordie & Yorkshire, and have major problems with Scottish accents which range from ‘drama’ Scot like Connery to Rab C Nesbitt, an almost indecipherable comedic genius Glaswegian wastrel. But it’s dialects and turns of phrase that really throw people and if you don’t understand them, you won’t get the humour.

And it is much more irreverant here, people expect the piss to be taken out of everything, politics and celebrity in particular, and tv drama and comedy is all the better for it.

I don’t think Americans realize that there are language barriers between them and Britons. Unless it is an actor who went to Drama school in London, and therefore has that “London drama accent” (there is such a thing!), you would be surprised to learn the differences. I am American and married to a Brit, and when I moved to the UK, I hadn’t previously visited. I merely had preconceptions on what I thought it would be like. I was surprised just how much I felt like I was needing to learn a new language. I needed to learn how to understand various accents, not just one or two. There are a LOT OF ACCENTS HERE. There are a LOT of different words that you wouldn’t really hear much in anything except shows that are mainly played here. Anything that is exported tends to be American-friendly. Americans tend to be easily offended (generally speaking) but British folk are not. BBC and American TV are polar opposites. So, naturally, I am not surprised to hear people didn’t get his jokes. It’s like when I first moved to the UK and within a couple weeks of living here, my husband tried showing me a British TV show called “Phoenix Nights”, which is full of Lancashire-Bolton accents.
In the UK, I said plenty of American things/phrases and had a lot of confused looks from people, and vice-versa.
