For me it was magic markers, gasoline, liquid paper, Elmer’s glue, turpentine…I’m sure there were a couple of others but yeah, kids seem to have a ‘thing’ for glue and solvent smells. I don’t know what it is but it seems the stuff that’s really bad for you flicks a happy switch in the brain.
(I like new car smell too but hey, can’t have everything!)

Hmm I totally didn’t get that meaning when I read the title of the post. For some reason I was thinking the gas station bathroom door?
FYI I am sleep deprived.

My son is the same way, he just looooves the smell of gasoline, exhaust pipes, car interiors…

Brain damage, it does a kid good. What an idiot. And Peta protests cruelty to animals?

Spraypaint Huffing Guy has taken a right hook at some point in his life.
Gold is SO 1980s.

i know a lot of people who like the smell of gas. it’s not like she’s soaking a rag and handing it to her to sniff. big deal.

I remember loving that smell(gasoline) when I was a kid. Now I hate it, though. Don’t know WHAT I was thinking.
I guess it’s good to know that I wasn’t the only one.

I liked it too when I was a kid. Couldn’t stand it when I was in my teens and 20s. Quite like it again a little bit
It doesn’t have a patch on melted tar though, it’s the smell of summer for me
(hey, I grew up in the west of Ireland in the 80s, tarmacadamed roads were considered a luxury then!!!

LOL @ VAL! I thought the exact same thing
I thought it meant that she left the bathroom door open so her daughter could smell the obnoxious fumes inside. I don’t know where my mind was, but I’m glad I wasn’t the only one that went there!
Loved the smell of gasoline as a kid too… Not sure I’d consider it a dangerous habit though – I’ve never huffed a thing in my life but I did love me some gas station visits

For me it was these paraffin-soaked little sticks they sold in bundles to light fires. I used to stick my nose in the bucket and inhale as deeply and as long as I could. Hmm…that might explain a few things…

I always stuck my head out the car window to catch a whiff of gasoline whenever my Dad filled up the car tank.
Still like it, but not as much. Perhaps the price per gallon has turned me off.

Val & RAN–Me too. Something about Kate Moss that triggers visions of gas station bathrooms.

I love the smell of gasoline in the morning . . .
And while I want to offer props for posting Spraypaint Huffing Guy, I have to admit that there’s another huffer nearer and dearer to my heart . . .

I can’t smell so I’ve no clue. But I have loads of friends who think that gasoline is a lovely fragrance.

I’ve always loved the smell of gas. Its just one of those scents that make you want to sniff again.

Heh me too. I’ve always inhaled deeply at petrol stations, ever since I was like 5.
My parents used to drive us across the country to spend christmases with our grandparents, and it took 4 days to drive there. Woohoo! Aaaah.

This is a big deal? I’m pretty sure liking the smell of gasoline doesn’t lead to substance abuse. I’ve always loved it, and the only substance abuse I can claim is an addiction to crunchy nut cornflakes.

Poor kid. Having Coke Moss as your mother is guaranteed to screw you up for life.
