Sarah Ferguson is “devastated” to not be invited to Will & Kate’s wedding

wenn3210471

The wedding invitations have gone out for Prince William and “Waity” Katy Middleton’s April nuptials, and now media outlets are reporting on who did and did not get an invite. On the invitation list: David and Victoria Beckham, and Kanye West, apparently (USA Today compiled another list here). Not on the invitation list: President Obama, First Lady Michelle Obama and Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York. Considering that HRH The Duke of York and his two daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie will be in attendance, Fergie’s absence is notable, but not surprising. After all, this is the crazy woman who went on Oprah and couldn’t answer one single question about her finances honestly. Probably because she’s something of a high-class royal consort/hooker…? Anyway, PopEater has a piece on how Fergie is super-upset that she didn’t get an invite:

The Queen has sent out over 1,800 invitations to attend the wedding of grandson Prince William and Kate Middleton, but has not invited The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. Leaving Will’s auntie in tears over the Royal snub.

“Sarah is devastated that she hasn’t been invited,” a friend of the ex-royal tells me. “Hasn’t she been punished enough by the family? Sarah is down on her luck and this is the same as kicking a person while they are down.”

Sarah’s 10-year marriage to Prince Andrew ended in 1996 but recently made headlines after she was caught trying to sell press access to her ex-husband to an undercover reporter from The News of the World. Since then her already strained relationship with the palace has been almost non-existent.

“Sarah was hoping that the wedding would provide her with the opportunity to spend quality time with the family and prove she can and does deserve to be part of the family,” an insider tells me. “Any hope she ever had of being invited back into the fold is over. Sarah might be the last person on earth to finally get it but even she knows now she’s not welcome.”

The service will begin at Westminster Abby at 11:00 a.m. With Prince Harry serving as Best Man and Kate’s sister, Pippa, will be Maid of Honor.

The invitation that Sarah sadly did not receive reads: “The Lord Chamberlain is commanded by the Queen to invite [name] to the marriage of His Royal Highness Prince William of Wales, K.G. with Miss Catherine Middleton at Westminster Abbey on Friday, 29th April, 2011 at 11.00 a.m.”

Aside from family, friends and dignitaries, reported invitees include David and Victoria Beckham, Elton John and Kanye West.

“The Duchess will be watching the wedding on television just like the rest of the world, but not from England,” a friend tells me. “It will be too painful for her to be in London. She will be abroad. Once again trying to start her life knowing that kissing a prince doesn’t guarantee a happy ending.”

[From PopEater]

Oh, for goodness sake. Enough with the self-absorbed martyrdom, Fergie. Your crazy ass didn’t deserve an invitation! However, it is kind of shocking to me that the President and First Lady didn’t get one. Usually, the Queen is kind of pushy about getting lots of heads of state to come out for a big shin-dig, but I guess not this time.

Here’s the invite, by the way (so you know what to expect!) – I like the “The Lord Chamberlain is COMMANDED by The Queen…” I want to be commanded by The Queen.

    i’m also devasted!

  2. elizabeth says:

I get leaving Sarah Ferguson off the list. Its a bit harsh but not unpredictable. But how the hell did Kanye West get an invite?? Is he performing or something??

  3. Marianne says:

If her name is Catherine with a C…shouldn’t she be “Cate Middleton”??

  4. REALIST says:

That’s so tacky! Of course tedious Andrew, plus Beatrice and Eugenie were invited. The Royal Family (basically the Queen) may be described many ways, but not as magnanimous.
    Kayne. The Beckhams-also tacky.
Interesting about the President and First Lady. I know Nancy Reagan went to Diana and Charles wedding. An invitation to the First Lady would have been appropriate, and security concerns would not have been as much of an issue.
Was it the iPods that pissed Q-Tip off?

  5. embertine says:

Weird. I thought in traditional weddings (IANAWP*) the bride’s parents sent out the invitations, not the bridegroom’s grandma.

*I Am Not A Wedding Planner

  6. Lynnie says:

Kanye West, but not the President and Mrs. Obama? That seems weird considering William will be king and other heads of state are invited.

    Really, Kanye West?

  7. mymy says:

While Andy seems to be OK with Fergie. i don’t think anyone in the Royal family is. She is not in the family any longer she divorced Andy. And took up with some flim flam man who liked sucking her toes. So I guess she should have thought about her future status in the family and lived a life properly. She is a con artist.

  8. Rita says:

    @Elizabeth

“how the hell did Kanye West get an invite??”

After a few tecquila shots the queen wants Kanye to “throw down some mean Kazoo on the bitch”. (I think that’s what he said)

  9. brin says:

Man, Kanye and not Fergie? She must really be depressed about that.

  10. embertine says:

Rita, your post made me LOL. ‘Cos you know Liz and Kanye are like this. *crosses fingers*

I see her on the bongos while he’s throwing down some mean kazoo on that bitch.

  11. Luci says:

    Awesome!!
    Kanye West?? LOL!! 😀

  12. asiont says:

If I was organizing my wedding I would also invite Kanye and not the Obamas, he just seems like fun.

  13. lilred says:

Lol @ Rita,oh, to have been there for that conversation.

  14. seVen says:

we all know Kanye is going to get up, in the middle of the vows and say ” Im happy for yall, and imma let you finish your vows but ‘check my suit!’. ” Or something along them lines.

  15. Zelda says:

Wow Fergie looks horrible. Very mannish.

  16. L says:

Kayne performed at the Memorial for Diana concert, so I’m willing to bet it’s a courtesy invite since he prob did that show for free. Or they bonded during backstage parties.

Honestly, Fergie is a ex-wife that has done alot of crap. When did they get divorced, when William was 8? 9? So if they don’t have a relationship, and he’s close with his uncle-I wouldn’t be inviting the ex-wife either. Even if I was close with my cousins/uncle. Did the same thing with my uncle’s ex-wife who is bat shit insane-even with my cousin’s being in the wedding.

I wonder if the heads of state get a different invitation. Not the formal one from the Lord Chamberlin, but through the ambassadors or something….

  17. texasmom says:

    Two quick questions:

    1) what is a “lounge suit”? The words make me think of “leisure suits” but I know that can’t be right!

    2) I thought it was “marriage…to”, is “marriage…with” correct? or is this form particularly English?

  18. embertine says:

    seVen, LOL!

“I’m happy for y’all, and Imma let y’all finish, but Grace Kelly had to most ridiculously over-hyped Royal wedding of all time. OF ALL TIME.”

  19. lachica says:

Fergie forgot that she would one day grow old. and that the House of Windsor knows how to hold a grudge.

  20. HEB says:

This is BS, I hardly doubt she expected to be invited. I’m sure she’s sad but she totally knew she wouldn’t be invited.

  21. Lara says:

Just to be boring but Obama wasn’t invited because Wills is not next in line to the throne so it isn’t protocol to invite the president as I don’t think they have ever met?

  22. MrsOdie2 says:

This is surprising. She is his aunt, isn’t she? I’m amazed they would exclude a blood relative. But maybe she has no relationship with the prince and never has.

  23. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

    Very Weird! Kanye?? Really???

I would never have invited Fergie either.. She is the ex wife of his uncle. It would be weird in regular society so, why would she expect an invite in the Queen’s society?

  24. Bunny says:

I think after that incident with her taking bribes, she would have expected not to be invited.

  25. eja102 says:

    was Stephen Harper invited?

    who? you ask.

    Canada’s very boring Prime Minister.

  26. erika.rain says:

    @Embertine – classic!
@Lara – yeah, that sounds correct to me (not that I’m the master of British royal protocol!)

  27. ThatBoyLuke says:

Kanye West has not been invited, The Beckhams were invited because Prince Williams and David met at something and apparently got on really well.
The Obama’s havn’t been invited because technically it’s not a “state wedding” since William is not Prince of Wales yet but the Queen has invited the Obama’s over for a state visit which is better coz y’know you get to stay in Buckingham Palace and all lol

I feel bad for Fergie she may be allergic to money but overall she seems like a nice woman and she is mother of Williams cousins who are also attending.
Good on her for turning down all the big money offers to cover the wedding on US TV though.

  28. Lady D says:

I read that your Pres and his First Lady were not invited because of the cost of security for them. The palace apparently is trying to keep wedding costs down.

  29. Isabel says:

Kanye but not the Obamas. That’s just nucking futs.

I guess I don’t see what Sarah’s all devastated about. She’s been a mess and an embarassment for years…and didn’t she just try to sell out her ex-husband? Inviting her would be the equivalent of inviting your broke uncle’s crazy-ass pill popping boozy ex-wife to your wedding after she got caught trying to extort him. Just saying.

  30. Kimble says:

@#17 Texasmom: a lounge suit is what you would probably call a business suit ie matching trousers and jacket and a shirt and tie!

President and Mrs Obama were not invited as it is considered a “family” wedding not a state wedding – probably why they’ll be approx 200 MP’s there (sigh).

  31. Tazina says:

Trying to pimp out her ex-husband on t.v. for money and getting caught red handed was probably the last straw as far as getting invited to anything in the future goes. I don’t blame them. That was pretty low.

  32. Wresa says:

Lmao @ embertine…I’m not even going to attempt to top that!

  33. Bopa says:

Fergie shouldn’t be invited didn’t she get caught for trying to sell family secrets? Maybe they didn’t invite The Pres and First Lady because they would be a destraction since Obama is more famous than rock stars over there. Kanye being invited is just random and risky I guess they didn’t see the VMAs.

  34. Lizzie B says:

The Obamas don’t get an invite because he’s only second in line to the throne. They would get one if Charles was king and William was getting married.

  35. Hmmm says:

After the scam that Fergie tried to pull, I wouldn’t invite her either. She really is a hedonistic parasite.

  36. bluhare says:

I read earlier this year on a Brit website that William wanted to invite her as she’s the mother of his cousins, and was a friend of his mothers for years (even though they were on the outs when Diana died). So, if this is true and she knew he wanted to do that, then I can see that she’d be really upset to have it vetoed after all.

  37. machiavelli says:

Why should Fergie be invited? She is not part of the family anymore due to divorce.

I am not all that familiar with divorces. This is what I am thinking anyway.

  38. Zelda says:

    @eja102
Stephen Harper has the eyes of a molester. And the moral ambiguity.

  39. Mairead says:

I think it’s a bit unfair. She’s being punished not for selling access to Andrew, but because she was caught. I am positive that he was completely complicit in the whole affair, as evidenced by his business dealings in central Asia. After the kerfuffle of the divorce was over they did/do remain very good friends.

But seriously, Kanye and not the Obamas? The Queen is said to have a mad sense of humour in private – they must be doing it for the giggle 😐

  40. REALIST says:

@Malread-see, now this is why my fantasy superpower is to be invisible (which includes walking through walls, of course)! I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when they were hammering out THE LIST.
I have a friend back in Virginia who does a brilliant impression of the Queen, I may have to give him a ring and put him through his paces.
“Ooooh no, not SARAH!!! She has been an absolute disgrace to this family!” etc., etc, as Prince Philip nods off and snores loudly…

  41. jape says:

So no wedding invite for aunt Fergie (fair enough, after that scandal), still using the same scale Kate´s uncle should not be invited (not tu mention Kanye or the Beckhams), but apparently he is: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1359240/Kate-Middletons-cannabis-smoking-uncle-Gary-Goldsmith-gets-Royal-wedding-invite.html
It´s just one of 1900 seats and I don´t think she´s worse than Kate´s drug dealing uncle.

  42. Feebee says:

Difficult position for Beatrice and Eugenie to be in.

Several reasons why it’s perfectly understandable she wasn’t invited. Reports are consistent about her and Diana having a big falling out and Diana dying before a reconciliation happened. So if Diana wasn’t happy with Fergie, William may have taken that to heart. Then again even he was happy to have her obviously the Queen wasn’t rubber stamping it.

She’s embarrassed The Family on more than one occasion. The last time being quite recent and particularly distasteful.

As for the Obamas not being invited, it’s been stated the wedding is not a State occasion. They’re sticking more to their own… distant royal relations, other Royal families, heads of Commonwealth countries (NZ’s PM was invited, so Canada’s PM was most likely to have invited also, thought it might have be mentioned in US reports).

  43. JenJen says:

She will probably be watching the wedding on her new reality show on Oprah’s network.

  44. Hautie says:

Doesn’t she live in the same house with Andrew? I could have swore I had read that. That they live together.

Mostly because she has managed to burn through cash like a crazy man. And he is supporting her.

Which honestly says alot about him being a decent man. No matter how horribly she has managed her life. He is trying to keep a roof over her head.

And she is just lousy with cash.

She made a small fortune living in New York and working for Weight Watchers. And many other ventures.

Yet, she manage to still spend more than she earned.

  45. jane16 says:

I’ve read that Obama is not a big fan of Great Britain (his father hated them becuz of Kenya being part of the colony), and one of the first things he did when taking office was to send back to England a bust of Winston Churchill that had been presented to Reagan and was displayed in the W.H. I’m not positive this is true, but read it on more than one place. If its true, one could see that the brits aren’t going to be crazy about him. Another point, if true, I think the bust would belong to the taxpayers.

  46. Westcoaster says:

    @eja102: Too funny!

    @Zelda: LOL!!

  47. Louise says:

I don’t believe Fergie is mad or surprised. What do you expect when you sell your family out. Have other international heads of state been invited? If every political head except Obama is invited then not inviting the Obamas is a snub and scandalous. I doubt that a lot of politicians outside of England are going to be invited. It’s not a state wedding like it was when Charles and Diana married. Were the Reagans invited and attended Fergie/Andrew’s wedding? Although William is more important is along the same lines in that neither are next in line.

  48. oh hey says:

Fergie is related to William by marriage, not blood. She may be his cousins’ mother, but he’s her uncles EX-wife.

The Windsors don’t seem like a forgiving bunch, so I’m not surprised she didn’t get an invite. I understand she’s upset, but she should cut her losses on this one.

  49. Anastasia says:

    Jane16: that’s just patently untrue.

And as other said, this is not a state wedding, as William has no official title yet, so heads of state would not be invited.

If the Queen were deceased and Charles finally got to be king, then a title would be given to William (most likely Prince of Wales, like his father) and THEN it would be a state wedding.

  50. jane16 says:

Anastasia, I was just looking it up. What was reported in LA Times, Huffpo, Newsweek, et al, is that the bust was given to George Bush, not Reagan & was in the oval office. Obama did send it back, which some of the brit press apparently did take exception to, and replaced it with a bust of Abraham Lincoln. Also, what I said about Obamas dad hating Churchill is true becuz of Kenya and the mau mau uprisings against Brit colonial rule over Kenya. There were a lot of articles about this. Sorry I got some of the facts wrong about which prez & all; however, I did see a lot of unflattering articles about Obama in British newspapers during my google search. I still think there’s no love lost there.

  51. WhiteNoise says:

@Jane16 – it may have been perceived by some as a snub but it really wasn’t, just Obama turning down the offer to have the bust for another 4 years. It was always only ever on loan. I think it was just Obama putting his own stamp on things and a few Telegraph readers deciding to get a bit sniffy about it.

  52. jane16 says:

Yeah the bust story isn’t a big deal. The other angle, about Kenya is more interesting. Still, the Obamas probably weren’t invited becuz of the security thing as has been suggested.

  53. Bill Hicks is God says:

Fergie’s not a royal anymore and being the mother of royals (Beatrice and Eugenie) does not carry an auto-invite to Royal Weddings by default or association. The Queen has a long memory and holds grudges.

  54. Adrien says:

Maybe they sent the invitation to Fergie, the Black Eyed Pea. She is called the Duchess. right?

  55. TG says:

@Mairead – You are too funny with your defense of Fergie. Maybe LiLo can hire you as her lawyer or PR person. I love it.

  56. Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

    Fellow Maple Suckers,

Um, what are you talking about with this nefarious ‘Stephen Harper is not quite up to MC Skat Kat levels of frigidity’ business? Did you not watch the archives of him playing the ‘Rocking With Some Measured Amount Of Rolling And Such’ wherein he performed the tunes of one ‘The InsectZ (sic)’, or all you all just proroguing my leg, here? I mean, didn’t he almost graze Lloyd Robertson’s truss and support hose?

I always thought he had the eyes of Cthulu or Pazuzu or an Office Depot manager, but a molester is going to make my nights even worse, seeing as how two days ago, I had a dream in which that awful ‘Do The Potty Dance’ song was playing, is it’s so awkward and counter-intutive. I’ve babysat my niece and nephew enough to know that if you don’t respond to potty requests like a train full of napalm is about to hit your town, whatever mess results is your own fault.

    Potty dance? So creepy.

  57. gg says:

She is not just some crazy ex. She is still his aunt. It’s a shame she screwed up so bad.

One thing that was never clear to me – how do you “guarantee access” to anybody? What if somebody wanted an audience and Andrew said, “nope, don’t like that guy, not seeing him” – return the money? Hell no, you’d keep the cash if you were twisted enough to offer the deal in the first place. What kind of sucker would pay big money for such a nebulous deal?

  58. Sandy says:

Kanye West? Ew. I guess they didn’t want him proclaiming that the royal family doesn’t like black people.

  59. Fue McCormick says:

The invitation seems kind of weird. It’s like William is STARRING in the wedding and Catherine is just an afterthought. And what does K. G. mean?

  60. Zenobia says:

I can’t believe Fergie evidently can’t be counted on to behave herself, and yet Kanye’s invited. There are going to be three bishops performing that service – do you really think he’s gonna let them finish?

  61. Mairead says:

    @TG 😯
“But she’s just a CHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIILD and shouldn’t be forced to deal with her liiiiiiiiiiiiittle mistakes!!!” *boo hoo, sob sob*
    Howzat? 😀

@gg, as I said, he was complicit – the whole wikileaks thing suggests that he’s not above under-the-table deals.

@Jane16 – you have to be careful of the bias of the newspapers you read. The Torygraph (Telegraph), Daily Fail (Daily Mail) et al are hyper-conservative, borderline-paranoid relics of the Empire, for example. I will say this about the Telegraph though, James May off Top Gear’s weekly article is often excellent 😉
And Churchill isn’t fondly remembered in more places than just Kenya.

  62. asiont says:

you silly Americans, just get over it! do you see any other nation complaining that their president wasn’t invited? why do you think your president is special?
he’s not and nobody cares for the obamas except you. deal with it.

  63. tg says:

I doubt she cares as much as the media is saying she does, but really I’m just mesmerized by Kate’s hair in that picture. It’s a crime to have hair that perfect. I did notice her brow is a little wonky, though, and could use a little penciling in at the top.

    Excuse the petty observations…

  64. WhiteNoise says:

@Fue McCormick – KG = Knight of the Garter (or Order of the Garter). He was made one by the queen a few years ago I think (can’t be bothered looking it up) and the honour itself I think is given to members of the royal family only.

Mairead – 100% Andrew was on in Fergie’s little get quick rich schemes. This is why he and she continue to get along just fine, her taking the heat for their combined greed. 🙂

  65. Zelda says:

    @Zenobia
“I think you’re doing great and everything, and Imma let you finish, but Roger de Pont L’Évêque was one of the best archbishops of all time. OF ALL TIME!”

  66. Cleo says:

She’d definitely be invited to a real family wedding considering who IS invited, this marriage and wedding is not kosher.

  67. CB Rawks says:

But I’ll bet that alien gets to go.

This is weird because I know William wants her there. He’s close to his Auntie from all accounts, and shouldn’t his opinion matter the most here? It’s his damn wedding.

  68. harfang says:

That’s just craptastic. Fergie was always down to earth and a breath of fresh air. I liked her WAY more than Di, honestly. Re Kanye, my guess is that the prince knows him.

  69. I have to ask how many hours did you truly spend composing this article? It’s very properly created and writing isn’t my powerful stage. It in fact shows that you are enthusiastic about this, and it comes across via your posts. Well done, and I will allow it to be a level to comply with you from now on.

  70. barbara owen says:

The Royal Family should be ashamed of themselves..Putting Sarah’s girls in a terrible position is inexusible..It’s amazing that Americans, instead of the British are trying to help her head..Britian has been around for centuries, and America is only 211 years. Why is it ,we have so much compassion for one person..good luck Sarah!Shame on the Royals..
