Is this a new single off Britney’s upcoming album? (update: no – faked)

A new website, BritneySpearsCircusLeak, (link has automatic music) claims to have a leaked single off Britney Spears’ upcoming album, Circus, which will be out on her 27th birthday, December 2nd. The song, “Candy from Strangers,” is definitely a rough cut and at first I thought it was a parody the rapping was so bad. You can hear a throbbing beat that’s very similar to her earlier single this year, “Break The Ice,” and once you give the song a chance it has potential if it’s significantly remastered. It features hip hop team Laze & Royal, who sound like they suck, IMO. They’re twin brothers who are just 19 and you can tell. They seem to have been chosen more for their notoriety than their talent. At least they rap marginally better than K-Fed. Maybe I’m just used to hearing songs that are radio-ready and all cleaned up for public consumption.

It’s entirely possible that these two guys are trying to get publicity by rapping over an existing Britney song or creating their own with the beat from “Break The Ice” and a singer who is imitating her. Heidi Montag did it.

Earlier reports had the first single from Circus, “Womanizer,” coming out next week on September 22. There’s still a lot of work to do on this song if it’s legitimate so you wouldn’t expect it to be the first release.

Update: According to multiple reports on ONTD, this single is fake and uses a sound-alike singer with a remix of “Break The Ice.” The two crappy rappers were looking for publicity.

A bunch of up-and-coming rappers with a home studio and a friend who sounds quite a bit like Britney Spears recycled an old beat and sent it to gullible radio stations eager for pageviews. Could it be a demo? Sure, but it’s not likely. The original source of this leak was a YouTube video uploaded on an account that was created in the last 24 hours. It’s a publicity stunt of some kind and several excited folks, us included, fell for it. I can guarantee one thing, if a Britney song does leak, you’re going to find it here. Will we trip over a few fakes on the way? Maybe

I agree, the song is quite catchy but the rapping is cr*p. It will be WAY better without the rap in it.
