How about this – instead of some touchy-feely “why don’t we all hold hands and talk about how you’re killing yourselves” bull$hit, the producers just tell these girls that they will be fired if they don’t gain weight. Not just fired, but blacklisted from television.

I bet the girls will start eating in a hurry.

Kaiser’s right. Ok, I think blacklisting would be too harsh. But I think the producers setting an ultimatum would have more effect on them than their nice co-stars.

Oh, and that orange dress does whoever she is no favours. (that series doesn’t run over here, nor would I want to see it)

“presumably due to joining the show”

yeah… I’m sure the coke has nothing to do with it.
 I assume all the super skinnies in Hollywood are coke heads

Agree with your plan, kaiser, and apply it across the board. If the ent. industry doesn’t take a no-bullshit stand on this, nothing will change.

Will they do it? Hear my hollow laugh.

Shenae Grimes (in black) looks terribly thin, but Jessica Stroup looks positively abhorrent. She’s emaciated and needs to pack on some pounds.

That’s horrible. As the grown daughter of an anorexic, I know how horrible that disease can be. These girls are heading for trouble if they don’t get themselves under control. No amount of fame or money is worth throwing your health-or even your life-away.

What’s sad is my mom keeps her weight to an all time high of 112 (she is 5’7″) and her doctor says she is still too thin (but at least is maintaining steadily and not losing any more). These girls are even thinner than that. That’s not pretty…it’s hideous.

@Geronimo & Anna – Firm stands, girls. No eating, no job, no bull$hit. That should be the damn motto of New Hollywood.

Who watches this crap anyway? Isn’t anyone else sick to death of the ‘pretty rich white kids with problems’ as a TV genre?

The shorter one looks fine to me, thin but healthy, the taller one needs to realize that competing to be the same size as someone half your height is idiotic.

That’s not “bordering on scary-skinny.” That’s unhealthily skinny. If they look this thin in a photo, how do they look in person? Hopefully they can get this under control, because it looks dangerous.

  11. paris herpes says:

Oddly Jessica looks worse than Shanae (maybe cause she’s shorter) and weighs a little more. But still she is taller so the less she weighs the worse she looks. Shanae is thin but the weight distributes differently on her so she looks a little better. I’m glad they’re doing an intervention, these girls need to eat and look more normal. There’s nothing wrong with that!

You can see that Stroup has lost muscle mass already; a true marker of anorexia. This is not attractive, ladies! :x

The producers won’t do anything about these girls… hell they probably LOVE the attention these girls are getting their new show by showing up on the cover of US Weekly. Their skinny behavior is getting their names and the show’s name out there even more… their behavior is being reinforced… ugh

Exactly; they probably are behind encouraging them to lose weight in the first place; but once you cross a certain point, it literally gets to your head and you just keep going. :/

  17. Someone Who Knows says:

You guys are seriously, seriously naive about all this. I work in the industry at a major agency and can tell you for a fact this is total BS story. They are NOT going to be told to gain weight. No way, no how. This is a PR stunt.

They were TOLD by their agents to LOSE weight – because CW WANTS them super-skinny. Just look at how much Stroup lost before she got the part.

CW loves it – it draws attention viewers etc – especially their key demographic. CW loves them like this, and so do their fans and viewers.

Also – why do we pretend skinny is an eating disorder that has any kind of impact? It sure doesn’t seem to be affecting the population much, based on the obese people I see waddling around.

And whoever said it’s coke – it’s not. Coke is a party thing and it’s not something you do all day every day. A lot of models and actresses are taking prescription ADD drugs to kill their appetite. There’s probably more Adderall within 10 miles of here than any other drug.

Anyway, let’s talk in 6 months when they haven’t gained an ounce. Will you believe me then?

And personally I think they look gorgeous.

They look beautiful in a little girl kind of way, if thats what you’re into. Women should have breats and hips and thighs, God gave them to us! They shouldn’t look like boys.

Why starve yourself to look like a skeleton? I don’t want to look dead before I’m actually dead.

  21. shadow side says:

This story makes me sad. These girls are abusing themselves and these kinds of disorders can be fatal if not caught and treated. Yes I would like to see the producers fire them if they don’t gain weight but in addition to that the producers should provide rehabilitation and treatment for them as well. This is a work-related illness that they are suffering in my mind, and the producers of the show are ethically responsible for helping them recover.

And yes I know this will never, EVER happen. It’s the right thing to do and it will never happen. As I said, this story makes me sad.

I wasnt gonna comment because the machinations of the twitterbrained & shallow mean little to me. Listen to SOMEONE WHO KNOWS he’s got it mostly right. Heroin and meth are STILL very popular among the young and moronic in the business. Both dampen the appetite because the abuser doesnt want to eat just shoot or smoke.
And Julianne, I dont care if you are a teenager, I’m calling you on your statement, if that’s how you truly feel and that wasnt a lame attempt at being flippantyou are stupid beyond words.
You’ll see nothing will happen and God forbid the show’s a success, we’ll treated to yet another spate of photos showing the underfed and alot of silly ass little girls will emulate them.
What a shame, it seemed like the tide was turning towards more normal sized actresses.
Boycott show and wmail the producers and tell them why.

Interesting how female celebrities are starting to look alike. Those two could be sisters. No wonder eating disorders are on the rise, and it isn’t just gals. guys are now starting to obsess about their weight and sometimes it isn’t they want to bulk up but lose weight and be skinny like the jonas brothers or michael phelps (yes, the guy is SKINNY!). Wow, I’m 5’6″ and 132 lbs. I feel fat, fat, fat compared to those two even though I wear a size 6 to 8.

Like I always say “F%$k models, feed Africa”…stroup in that movie “prom night” was kinda round, voluptous ( but my God, not even close to fat)..the producers from 90210 probably told her to loose some weight…a sane person will start exercise and maybe consult a nutritionist for some sort of a diet, but nooo she stopped eating..please!
eating disorders are very serious, people who suffer from them are really sick and they need a lot of help and support, but not every girl who decides not to eat a.k.a. kill herself is suffering from an eating disorder

You don’t know what you are talking about. Walk a mile in my shoes…watching my mother go in and out of the hospital as she battled her anorexia. She’s in her late 60′s now, and the battle NEVER ends.

Don’t comment on things you are completely ignorant about.

julianne: So the fact that these two may be killing themselves is OK because they look “amazing”? Read a book, get a job, have a conversation that delves deeper than what to buy at the mall. Do anything that might acquaint you with what’s really important in life.

Lola – point taken. I didn’t mean to deny that there are some who do it a lot. I know that.. what I meant is that the models and actresses who I know and work with, and many of them I know very well and socialize/party with, do it as kindof a club/fun/night/weekend thing and they’re not doing it regularly.

Adderall, on the other hand…. 8O

5’8 and 105 pounds? That’s insane! I’m 5’9 and fluctuate between 135 and 143 pounds and my friends still (jokingly) insist I have some sort of eating disorder. If I got that skinny they’d knock me out and drag me to a hospice where I’d be force-fed through a feeding tube. Seriously, someone needs to do something.

I think that Shenae doesn’t look as bad as Jessica but only because of the pattern on her (Shenae’s) dress. It makes it seem like she has more to her than she really does. Jessica on the other hand looks awful. It’s really a shame, because they’re such pretty people, but it just is SUCH a turn-off, I know, for them to be so skinny. I mean, if I were a guy, I wouldn’t want my girl to be insanely skinny, you know? Anyways, my favorite female celebrities aren’t very well known. They’re people like the girls from Barlow Girl and the drummer from Skillet. Real people. :)

  35. Missy says:

Well, I think that women like Beyonce, Halle Berry, Scarlett Johansen, Jessica Biel ect,. ARE GORGEOUS! I aspired to be like those women, not like these 2 at the top of the page. J.Lo was famous from having curves, she has never been stick thin. Besides, when me and my BFF went out to the beach for spring break guys were totally checking out my friend. She has CURVES but she has a flat stomach and shes toned. I STARVED myself wto get into a bikini and lost 20lbs b4 our vaca and I looked a mess standing next to her. Curves are beautiful… and not that I care what men think, but they tend to gravitate towrds a girl with a “body”. I was scary skinny in ALL my Spring break photos and I was so ashamed…those guys probably didn’t wanna talk to me, because they thought that I was sick. Well, to each his reach but I believe that curves are fabulous. Now I have put on 10 of the 20lbs that I lost and added some mucsle and now I look SO FLYY in my bikini…Because I am prone to be thin I just pig out once a week so that I can turn my weight into toned muscle…

these girls look sick but somehow, deep down inside, i wish i looked as sickly as them. its sounds very wrong but i think they look good. im 5’3 and weigh about 103 pounds and sometimes i think im fat. i sometimes wish the media would stop giving all these girls so much attention. then maybe i wont feel so bad when i look at myself

  37. SNS says:

They wouldnt be intervining if the skinnyness wasnt so noticable and it was making guys watch the show.

They are only talking about intervining because theyy know it makes the show look bad by having them apear that way.

If this had been 5 years ago, they would haave let them die from it because no one cared then.

But now everyones conscious about the size 0 issue that they cant get awayy with it. Its not concern for the girls, its concern for the image of the show and the channel.

  38. K says:

That is terrible and it’s disgusting that people think that it’s normal for a five-foot-three girl to weigh 90 pounds. Promoting these girls the way the entertainment industry does is killing them and it doesn’t help anyone with body image issues to see that.

  39. cassy says:

Depends on the reason why they are skinny.

Many people are quick to judge or associate skinny with anorexia or bulemia.

They don’t seem to realize that many people are naturally skinny: they can’t gain weight just like others can’t lose it.

I’m 5’4, and I weigh 100 pounds. I eat everything. I haven’t been sick in 2 years. I never run out of breath or get dizzy. All blood tests come out normal, I get enough nutrition.

And yet I’m supposed to feel that I’m not normal and that I should go out of my way to gain weight? The last time I checked normal means healthy, and I’m healthy, so why shouldn’t I be considered normal?

To each their own. If these girls are purposely trying to be skinny, then they need to sort out their issues. However, if that is just their natural body type, leave them alone. No one is quick to tell a chubbyor curvy person to lose weight, so no one should tell a skinny person to gain weight.

As long as you’re healthy, that’s all that matters.

yes Cassy, you sound healthy, but it is not like these girls were always this skinny. just a short time ago they were beautiful, thin, healthy looking girls, now they literally look like walking skeletons. it’s gross. jessica stroup’s arms and legs – ew. they need help. they need a guy to tell them that this is *not* sexy looking, and that they look gross and sick.
