Owen Wilson on being a new dad – he scopes out potential nap spots

Owen Wilson was on The Tonight Show last night promoting Hall Pass, which is out this Friday and looks like it could be funny. (Here’s a link to the trailer.) On The Tonight Show, Wilson looked really tired but happy and was gushing about his six week old son, Robert Ford Wilson.

New dad Owen Wilson opened up for the first time about his son Robert Ford, nearly 6 weeks, on Tuesday’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

“I’m glowing,” the Hall Pass actor, 42, said of his baby boy with girlfriend Jade Duell, born in Hawaii on Jan. 14.

The star baby is a “very cute little boy and he’s doing well,” Wilson said. “It’s very exciting!”

Although Robert Ford takes his name from his grandfather (Wilson’s dad Robert), “he’ll probably go by ‘Ford,'” the actor said.

The laid-back comic star admitted he’s a little tuckered out like all new parents.

“What they say about newborns and not getting a lot of sleep, that’s true,” he told Jay Leno. “You look at every place as a potential nap place. I’m looking at this couch, maybe at commercial break, [I’ll take a] little shut-eye there!”

[From US Weekly]

Owen also said that his son is named after his grandfather (Owen’s dad), Robert, but would probably go by his middle name, Ford. He joked that when his kid was older and he needs to get him to concentrate on his homework he’ll tell him “Ford focus.” For his first birthday, he’ll have a “Ford fiesta.” As for little Ford’s personality, he said “he’s so cute, he becomes sort of a little scenestealer when he comes into the room. Without even saying a lot he kind of has a Steve McQueen in Magnificent Seven [presence].” He also repeated the same thing he said earlier about how Ford looks like “other babies,” and that he couldn’t see a resemblance at this point.

There’s some question about the paternity of Owen’s son. His girlfriend’s ex seems to be talking smack about her to the tabloids, and has brought the timeline of her pregnancy into question. Many of you pointed out that Owen probably got a paternity test to confirm that he’s the dad.

Owen seems to be in a good place right now. He talked about how great he felt while he was throwing the ball around during the pre-game show at the Superbowl. You can tell that he’s exhausted but so thrilled to be a new dad. Things have really turned around for him.

Let’s hope he is this baby’s daddy.
    “Ford, focus”…lol!

  2. lilred says:

So nice to hear he deserves to be happy.

  3. Leek says:

Good for him. All babies come out looking like Phil Collins so he does have a point about them all looking alike.

  4. danielle says:

Good for him. Ford’s a cute name.

  5. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

    Ford Fiesta!!! My fav..

    He’s so cute that guy.

  6. Lin99 says:

I think he probably had the baby tested before he publicly announced the pregnancy. Even if he didn’t and the baby is not his blood relation, he could still be happy raising the child as his own…being a father is way more then making a deposit

  7. Rita says:

Glad to see him in a good place. It could have so easily gone the other way. Let’s hope it’s all behind him.

  8. Maritza says:

I hope the kid doesn’t inherit his awful nose! Why doesn’t he get his nose fixed? I find him handsome except for his nose, it’s distracting.

  9. Alexa says:

I LOVE Owen’s nose (and everything else of his).

Owen – Don’t go changing to try to please me . . . I’ll tumble 4 ya. — Linda Richman

  10. Bodhi says:

Ditto Alexa, I love his nose! He looks much more interesting than most men in HW. Good on him, he sounds like a natural daddy 🙂

  11. Wendy City says:

There is no way in the world a woman could have that nose and make it in Hollywood.

  12. Newbie says:

    @Leek: LOL!

@Wendy City: So true. There are so many double standards in Hollywood.

@Maritza: I thought I heard or read somewhere that his nose looks the way it does as a result of being broken, not a genetic trait. I may be wrong. I like that he didn’t care enough about his looks to get it fixed. There are other hollywood hunks out there that are worshipped for their looks, and they’ve had their ears pinned back, or their noses tweaked or whatever. It’s a ridiculous facade.

  13. JenJen says:

Yes, his nose is odd and Luke’s isn’t. I think Owen is more popular because he has an endearing, sweet personality. So looks don’t always win because Luke is a looker.

  14. Mario says:

Get your ugly as hell nose fixed!!

  15. Annie says:

He was really bitchy when they asked him on the red carpet how/why they kept her pregnancy a secret for so long.

Why does he feel that he should be exempt from such questions when Christina Applegate is next to him being asked about her mastectomy, for God’s sake?

I just think this guy is just saying all the right things but he’s still sketchy.

  16. Nina says:

To all of you out there criticizing his nose…. it was a football injury that happened twice, in fact. I think it is refreshing that he does not have a big Hollywood ego about the way he looks and is confident enough as a man that he does not want to get it fixed.
