Best Actor Oscar goes to… Colin Firth! Yay!

oscar_arrivals_7_20_wenn3229213

This really was a coronation. Colin Firth walked into the Kodak Theatre knowing that he was the closest thing to a sure thing in Oscar betting pools. His campaign (helmed by Harvey Weinstein) was lovely, and it worked brilliantly. Colin took every major award this season, including a Globe, the SAG, the Critic’s Choice, the BAFTA, and now, the Oscar. One of the reasons Colin has succeeded so beautifully this year is because he’s able to come across as very genuine, and like each award genuinely moves him. My theory: Colin is England’s Tom Hanks. He’s genuine, warm, nice, and a family man. The comparison totally works.

Anyway, the win! First, Sandra Bullock came out and was funny and sweet. She’s the female, American version of Colin Firth!!! When Colin won, he gave his wife a nice kiss, then Helena, then a hand-hug with Geoffrey Rush. I loved his opening line: “I have a feeling my career just peaked.” I also love that he took his time, and he was allowed to take his time. He thought about what he was saying, he thanked everybody he wanted to thank, including Harvey Weinstein, “who took me on 20 years ago, when I was a mere child sensation.” Oh, he thanked Tom Ford too! Love that. I love that Colin recognizes that everyone’s opinion of him as an actor changed with A Single Man. Colin represents!

So… I’m just really happy for Colin. Well deserved!

tks2

I love Colin Firth. Just as he his.

10 points to anyone who gets the reference!

  12. truthSF says:

    @EbonyShiksa:

I fell in love with him when he said that line in Bridget Jones Diary. How can anyone not love this man?

  13. Venus says:

Love him — but bite your tongue — Colin is WAY, WAY better looking than Tom Hanks.

Love his wife too but her dress is too short.

  14. Boromir's bytch says:

I’ll take the points. The King’s Speech was the best movie I saw all year. I think I’ll have a Colin Firth film fest in my living room this week.

  15. qmamzmwmsmxm says:

    He is HOT !!!!!!!!!!!!

I LOVED HIM IN BRIGIT JONE’S DIARY

  16. Feebee says:

Almost worth a side eye from my husband as I put up a Colin Firth poster on my wall.

  17. the original bellaluna says:

What could be better than starting my day with Colin on Bravo and ending it commenting on his Oscar win? And now, off to bed…

  18. Camille says:

<3 and am so happy for him 😀 .

  19. Flan says:

Oh yeah! Sexy, intelligent man who deserves it!

  20. Andie says:

So so gorgeous, such a brilliant actor – he deserved to win big time. His wife is a stunning looking woman, but that dress is not right. The colour is too pale for her, and it’s a horrible cut and length. But what does she care! She has COLIN (sob)!

  21. Girafe99 says:

I think Firth was much better in a Single Man and the King’s Speech is not half as good as people make it out to be, I thought the Social Network was a far greater film and Toy Story better than the both!

  22. islandwalker says:

Have loved him since the BBC/A & E version of Pride and Prejudice. He is just a talented yet humble, quiet, class act. Well deserved.

  23. Theuth says:

YAY!!! XD Still haven’t see King’s Speech in original (only the italian dubbed version), but I think he really deserves all these awards. If only for A Single Man (seriously, I was weeping at the end).
    GO COLIN!

  24. Ally says:

I have loved Colin Firth since Valmont, but I wish he’d won an Oscar in earlier years. I resent Tom Ford for launching him on this streak of characters who seem merely pudgy and depressed, without being particularly interesting.

They recently re-issued an old BBC period-piece, classic literature movie, “Camille”. Terrible cheesy 80s production values, but great (wasted) cast, including baby Colin Firth. Might be amusing for you other Firth fans out there.

  25. lana says:

I’ll also take the ten points, since he loved Bridget “just as you are” 🙂

  26. sickofit says:

He really deserves it, he is a very good actor.

  27. serena says:

I’m so happy for Colin, he deserved it all!

Anyway his wife dress was hideous..ugh.

  28. lachica says:

    Mr. Darcy won!!!

He is MADE of awesome! So glad he won.

  30. Samigirl says:

When it was announced Colin won, I jumped up and screamed. My fiance’ asked me how this changed my life…so I punched him in his shoulder 🙂

  31. Heather says:

    Go Colin! <3

  32. Enny says:

Oh and Colin, you gave me stirrings as well – though somewhat lower than the abdominals. 🙂

  33. Ell says:

It was worth staying up most of the night watching 3 hours of boringness (which I do every year in hope it will get better) just for that moment.

    lol @ Samigirl and Feebee.

  34. Lynda says:

Take him to the Tower of London and put him in a case with the rest of the crown jewels. We all know he won’t always be perfect, but at this moment, who cares?

  35. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

Very well done! He deserved it!

  36. TXCinderella says:

    predictable, but yeah i guess

I have nothing to say that you haven’t already said. I love him as an actor, I think he is a very down to earth and genuine artist and person. I’m glad he won, I’m glad he talked about Tom Ford, I’m glad he finally got the consideration he deserves.

  48. Anon73 says:

LOVE ME SOME COLIN !! ; -) was very excited he won !!

  49. REALIST says:

    Jolly good show!
I was in the midst of another grad school assignment, so I missed the Oscars (again, dammit).
The Oscar.com website has highlight videos, but only transcripts of the acceptance speeches. Suggestions?

  50. Jeri says:

    Totally Agree!

  51. CB Rawks says:

If you really want to melt your panties off, get Colin in the mini-series of Pride and Prejudice!
And yes, YAY for Colin and his win!!
Damn, that scene where he cried made me cry too.

  52. Emily says:

He so deserved this! I’ve loved him since I first saw Pride and Prejudice*. But I’m one of those people who realised just how good he was with A Single Man, too.

*I’m hungover and nearly wrote Pride and Pregnant.
