Oscar Fashion: Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein & Michael Kors

wenn5615787

God, did anyone else end up feeling sorry for Gwyneth Paltrow after last night? Usually, she’s a total snot at these kinds of events, but it really felt like the universe was conspiring against her. First, she wore this really pretty Calvin Klein metallic gown, which would have been one of the best dresses of the evening… if not for these weird tracks around her waist:

What is up with that? Other than what I can only imagine is some kind of issue with the fit, I take issue with Gwyneth’s hair. The blonde, specifically. She’s been doing this too-blonde, barely-any-roots thing for a while, and it makes her look washed out and older. Oh, and when the camera got in close on Goop, her face looked ROUGH.

Beyond that, it just felt like Goop wasn’t bringing her snotty A-game. No Chris Martin to support her on her big Oscar debut as a singer, of course. Because in my opinion, Chris barely cares what Gwyneth has going on, EVER. And then to make matters worse, Oscar producers made her sing right after Florence Welsh from Florence and the Machine! Florence might not be a fashionista, but her voice is AMAZING. And the difference between Dame Goop and Dame Florence was really, really obvious when Goop sang her little song about “double wides”. Which never fails to make me laugh. As for her performance in general – she looked so nervous, and it’s really obvious that her voice isn’t quite as strong as she thinks it is. Here is the Michael Kors dress that Gwyneth performed in, and wore to the after-parties. Meh – I hate Goop in neutrals. The cut doesn’t compliment her body either! She looks thick-waisted here. Poor Goop, right? She’s totally off her game. A divorce announcement soon, you think?

    Morning Kaiser…you are up early after a late night. Good job with the Oscar recaps. I agree about Goopy. She must have been nervous cause she was not in her uppity mode. I didn’t like either dress. They both were not flattering imo.

  2. Quest says:

    Goopy’s dress was lovely but it did not do much for her figure. I however, did not feel sorry for this chic, sometimes one needs to be humbled to remain grounded.

    I found it halarious when she was asked to choose someone in the world she woould like to do a duet with and she smuggly answered Jay Z…LOL.

  3. Cherry Rose says:

    The neutral dress would have looked better on her if she had gone with a jewel tone or something.

    I don’t like the Calvin Klein because of the hemline.

  4. malachais says:

    I actually thinks she looks pretty fresh faced and beautiful for goop

  5. krissy says:

    I cannot believe her husband was not there to see her sing!

  6. Hautie says:

    My bias opinion.

    Both dresses were awful.

    The Calvin Klein dress showed off her poochy stomach. Which I am stunned that her trainer lets her have one. 🙂 But had she slipped on a little spanx it would have looked better. But hated the helm line.

    And I will not ever start ranting how bad I hate the burnt up, pin straight hair. On anyone.

    And that Kors thing is just tragic.

  7. Ken says:

    She looks like a doily.

  8. Jackson says:

    Honestly, does this chick own a shade of lipstick or lipgloss other than ‘pale’ ‘nude’ or ‘paler and nuder?’ She needs a bit of color not just in her face but her hair, also. Washed out and dated. I didn’t like the metallic dress, either. I think the one she performed in looked a little better. And, yeah, she seemed nervous when she sang.

  9. Nanea says:

    Don’t like either dress and hate that no stylist bothered to book a hairdresser appointment for her.

    This truly looks like nothing special.

  10. Meow Mix says:

    Am I the only one who thinks her voice is not that great?!?
    If she was a contestant on American Idol she would be voted off after the first round.

  11. devilgirl says:

    I loved the Calvin. Thought she looked lovely.

  12. Hautie says:

    “Don’t like either dress and hate that no stylist bothered to book a hairdresser appointment for her. ”
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Oh no… some poor hair guy spent, I bet two hours, achieving this burnt up, pin straight hair.
    Gwyneth has naturally curly hair that she beats into submission. It is why it always looks rough and unmovable.
  13. Kaye1 says:
    I’m not usually a Gwyneth apologist, but after seeing some bikini pics of her a few days ago, there is absolutely nothing “poochy” about her stomach. I also liked her dresses. The only part of the telecast that I happened to see was her singing and she did look nervous and not particularly happy to be there.
  14. Johnthing says:
    Wasn’t that Chris Martin sitting next to her in the audience? “Jay Z’s a genius” (barf) Hate her goopy self.
  15. Az says:
    OMG. I totally said the same thing about Chris Martin. First she shows up solo. Then she says she would like to duet with Jay-Z and gets snotty when asked what Chris Martin would say to that. She came off desperate on the red carpet. Then she completely botches her song, the audience reaction after she sang was priceless. I thought that her actions gavd credibility to the marital strife rumors and agree that either a divorce or a separation announcement is imminent.
  16. beth says:
    other than the fact she’s hollywood royalty by association, i. really. don’t. see. what’s the big deal. with her as an actor.
  17. photo jojo says:
    The Calvin Klein dress was amazing. The earrings she wore with it look like they are super heavy and painful. Her singing was meh. Better than I could do for sure, but meh by any other standard. I hope she comes a little unglued one of these days. Like maybe if Charlie Sheen licked her face and got just a wee bit o’ the crazy in there – that would be phenomenal. THAT is a GPal I’d hang with.
  18. Gwen says:
    The first thing I thought when I saw her, was that Chris Martin totally has a type. She lookes like a taller version of Kate Bosworth. Boring, too skinny and beige. I actually don’t mind the nude dress but the hair is dreadful IMO. Her singing was just bla – how on earth could she even get nominated?? In the words of Lainey: sit down Gwyneth Paltrow.
  19. Marjalane says:
    If Gwyneth Paltrow hadn’t been such a smug bitch for most of her life, I probably would have felt sorry for her last night, but she has been so I don’t. She looked and sounded rough during her “singing”, and you could tell that three notes into it, she knew she sucked and she kept pushing harder. Not sure what was going on with her face- it almost looked kind of dirty. That poker straight hair isn’t doing her any favors either. It amuses me when smug bitches like Gwyneth think they are just as good as “real singers”, (oh please, JZ, Gwyneth?!) and then they fall on their faces- sometimes the emporer really does have no clothes!
  20. GeekChic says:
    I wonder if the lines around the abdomen were Spanx that were falling down? She’s skinny and toned and I can’t imagine why she would need Spanx, but it’s a possibility…?
  21. Jenny says:
    The hair is fried beyond belief, the dreadful center part with dark roots. Fair haired, fair skinned people need color and she has none. Something about her just seems off.
  22. Sumodo1 says:
    OK, you asked for it: The FISHSTICK wore 2 (COUNT ‘EM!) 2 dresses that made her look like a gottdamm FISHSTICK. How on earth does THAT happen? I kept looking for the tartar sauce and then I realized, oops! GOOP left Chris Martin home.
  23. Riley says:
    Her singing was really painful to watch. I felt bad for her. Her interviews on the red carpet kind of sent signals THAT SHE DID NOT WANT TO BE THERE AT ALL. She seemed terrified from the start. Did you catch the weird look she gave when the camera first went on her during her performance. And it was not good to make her go after Florence Welsh. She should’ve gone after Mandy Moore. But I am sure one of her very dear friends in the whole world was by her side to tell her she was FANTASTIC. TERRIFIC. A NATURAL. I bet Fishmonger is packing some of her favorite snapper, white shrimp, and smoked herring and overnighting them to Los Angeles right at this very moment…
  24. louisa says:
    I swear I have never seen such bad posture! this is why there are those rings around her middle- cause she slouches and the material stays like that.
  25. EdithP says:
    I saw her bikini pics, she’s got an amazing body right now. These dresses are nice but do nothing for her.
  26. guesty says:
    the first dress i liked…the second was a no. she’s monochromatic from head to toe…literally.
  27. Stephy2585 says:
    I felt a little bad for her during her singing, cause like Marjalane said you could tell right off the bat that she knew we knew she was doing a horrible job. And really, what can you do? She couldn’t just turn around and walk off stage.
    Her face seconds after shep performed was the best. She looked so pissed.
  28. lady of the lake says:
    Have to say I thought the silver dress was an amazing look, although it seems Goopy gets phonier and phonier as time goes on. She and Chris M probably have a prenup that states they will never be on a red carpet together. I imagine that’s his doing, as he has always seemed like a self-important Douche with a capital D. And as for Florence of the Machine, I was just happy that she wasn’t singing desperately off-key, as she so often does during live performances. I was actually cringing, waiting for that to happen. And was happy when it didn’t!
  29. Jen says:
    I could not watch her performance — her face was sooo washed out and hard looking. Contrast her makeup and “look” with Anne Hathaway. Granted, Anne’s a few years younger but would it kill goopy to add a little color to her lips? Give some depth to her hair color? SOMETHING…
  30. Johnny Depp's Girl says:
    Just….. No
  31. Kim says:
    The colour of the Michael Kors dress is pretty rough, but the cut is awesome. It actually gives her some damn curves, which she desperately needs. The Calvin Klein is cool, but it does nothing for her figure. She looks like a skinny boy. I can’t believe there are people commenting here saying she should make herself look skinnier. WTF is wrong with you all?
  32. Abby says:
    I felt really bad for her. Celine Dion might sound bad singing immediately after that song Florence sang. Poor Goopy.
  33. di butler says:
    If you thought she looked good you obviously don’t have a good HiDef TV. She looked really rought in the face, and you could actually see the fried, flyaways in her hair. The horrible singing mess was just obvious.
  34. kiyoshigirl says:
    Michael Kors doesn’t have a bone of inspiration left in his brain. This is a tired style and it is better left for ladies with a curvy shape who need a little cinch at the waist. He must have paid her big bucks to wear this. The Calvin Klein gown is spot on, however Gwennie failed to lay down in the limo on the way to the red carpet, which is the only way to avoid waist creases with this type of fabric. Her hair is tired and worn. She and Jen Anniston need to take a serious look in the mirror and find a new style. Both would look adorable with something similar to Cate’s.
  35. kiki says:
    I liked the Calvin Klein but her head looks enormous.
  36. Jasmin says:
    I hate hate hated that CK dress. You can’t really tell from the picture you threw up but it just washed her right out, and made her hair colour look terrible. It also looked like it didn’t fit at all, hence the waist wrinkling. She just looked cheap.
  37. sasa says:
    She’s starting to be as interesting to me fashion-wise as Jennifer Aniston. Maybe I just don’t like how she wears dresses in general, it always looks like the dress is wearing her instead of other way around.
  38. serena says:
    I (strangely) liked Goop’s dress, the first one. I find it gorgeous.
    But she looks kind of ..sad? I really do pity her.
    And the second one, it’s horrible so old-style too.
  39. Cheyenne says:
    Absolutely loved the Calvin Klein dress but pass on the Michael Kors. (I’m down on Kors ever since the last Project Runway when he pushed the award onto that evil talentless bitch with her shit-colored collection.)
  40. TXCinderella says:
    Why doesn’t she do something different with that butt crack part, stick straight hair? It’s just not a good look for the Oscars. I also noticed that Goopy has man hands.
  41. Ari says:
    I loved the first one on her minus the crappy hair and I had to turn the channel when she sang :L
  42. lee says:
    I think Gwenyth looked overwhelmingly AWFUL in both dresses. When did she turn into a middle-aged Lohan? If your skin is orange and your hair is yellow, DO NOT wear gold or nude shades that only serve to accentuate your oompa loompa-ness!
    Although, to be fair, she looks somewhat better in these photos than she did on tv.
  43. Ally says:
    I remember her saying in an interview years ago, that she could barely leave the house unless her hair was perfectly straight. So ridiculous.
    Last night on the red carpet, I realized that one of her dates/flunkies was a hairstylist, who was still fussing with stray strands on the back of her head as the bulbs flashed.
  44. ordinarygirl86 says:
    I like the Calvin Klein and thought she looked great even though she’s done the ‘icy blonde’ look countless times over. But she looked ROUGH when the camera zoomed into her face during her performance- completely washed out face and lips(where the hell was the gloss or lipstick?) and tired as hell!
  45. Patricia says:
    She used to be so pretty – what the F happened Gwynnie?????
    All I can say is that insecurity is a monster – all of Hollywood proves that…and it is all so perfectly and horrifyingly on display on awards nights.
  46. Camille says:
    I don’t care for either dress on her and her hair looks bad too.
    Chris and GOOPY never do red carpet stuff together, because apparently all of the red carpet or Hollywood stuff is ‘work’ and they like to keep their marriage ‘separate’ from all of that stuff.
    But yeah, I don’t imagine that they will last much longer. I feel sorry for the kids.
  47. T. Redd says:
    Im growing bored of Gwyneth. Started with the scary singing thing. She needs to go away for a year or so. Until those of us with memories forget that she looks nothing like she did (thanks to plastic surgery) a year ago. Blech.
  48. Vera says:
    I don’t think the hair is what bugs me so much as the too-light eyebrows.
    The first dress looked good, didn’t notice the lines when watching tv, though I don’t like the slit and how when you see the inside of the dress you see the construction. Takes away from the nice gold.
    The second dress looks good on stage, but not on the red carpet. It’s the rhinestones, I think. They just don’t good unless on stage and under lights.
  49. original kate says:
    looks like someone got a visit from the botox fairy.
  50. Dea says:
    @ Kaiser: “Chris barely cares what Gwyneth has going on, EVER” – Ditto!! You couldn’t put it better. I think the reason that they haven’t announced anything publicly is a) they do not want to ruin their careers and b) children at a very young age are involved. But I am sure it will happen one day or the other.
    The dress was one of my favorites in fact. But this dress is not for every woman. It will look good only on her body type. I agree with he hair color. There is nothing classy on that hair front.
  51. dj says:
    Please, please do something different with that hair! As a fair skinned woman myself, it is difficult at best to pull off the nude/silver or whatever drab color she had on and her hair color seems to bleed into all the sameness. For heaven sake, put in some low-lights or some kind of color into your makeup! I really liked her with a bob years ago.
  52. ViktoryGin says:
    She sang? Ha. Yeah, she’s been known to do that from time to time.
    I used to be the most ardent Pal-Ho hater about a decade ago, and I found that I’ve relaxed toward her in the last few years. Ironic, cuz now she’s disparaged so horribly in the media. Amazing how the tides turn.
    I actually really like the Calvin Klein. It was one of my favorites of the night.
  53. Becky says:
    Yeah, she was definitely botoxed up but I can’t blame her for that. I thought her face looked fine. If I were a celeb and I knew that there would be cameras in my face I’d be working the ‘tox, too. Gwyneth is the same age that I am (38)-if you are fair skinned and past age 35 odds are you’re going to have some lines. While I admire the celebs who have the self-confidence not to go the botox/filler route, I can’t say that I’d do the same if I were in their shoes.
    On the other hand, her hair was rough-it really looked fried. I’m surprised that her stylist didn’t insist on some extensions or an updo. She really needs to get away from the light blonde look. It really washes her out. It amazes me, though, that anyone says she has a pooch. I’m not a fan of the girl, but she is in great shape and I like that she never ended up getting breast implants. I thought her dress would have looked great had it been in a jewel tone.
  54. NicoleAM says:
    Pin straight hair is a hard look to pull off. I don’t know why she always styles her hair that way. It ages her. The nude dress completely washes her out.
  55. Nikki says:
    I liked someone else’s jibe about her butt-crack stick straight hair, hehehe. Anyways, I actually loved the beige dress but it should have been in another color. And did anyone else notice her fake tan?? It just looked so fake and trashy. Look on people.com and check out her picture with Taylor Swift and Emma Stone, you can tell that she got spray-tanned or something. Yuck.
  56. vegemite says:
    I have always found this chick very manly looking.More so last night.Besides that,she is talentless and would be nowhere without her mommy and daddy.
  57. ThePhoenix says:
    Chris Martin and Gwyneth NEVER appear together at Hollywood events, didn’t you know that Kaiser? They never have, so why start now? Martin isn’t into it, never has been, and Gwyneth prefers that they keep their professional lives seperate. For that reason, Gwyneth never goes to his music events, either. It doesn’t mean they’re getting a divorce! Stop being a drama queen and inventing bs. Gwyneth and Chris have NEVER appeared as a couple at these events, right from the start. What, you never noticed this, until now? DUH! A bit slow, aren’t you?
  58. ThePhoenix says:
    I actually love the thing around her waist. Its beautiful and I think if it wasn’t there the dress would have washed her out and looked bland. It made the dress.
  59. _ThePhoenix says:
    I’m still here Kaiser! And always will be.
  60. Salem says:
    Very nice.
  61. Ashley says:
    Ok u guys are all Crazy and super harsh. First of all, the people saying she has a “pouchy” belly? Total nitpicking c’mon. Her face looked like she spent a week in Barbados (she did), the woman is pushing 40 has had 2 children in the last 6 yrs and looks damn good and you all know it. I do agree that she is a little smug, but she looks great. (period).
  62. lrm says:
    LOVE the calvin dress. and i don’t think she has a stomach at all! i think it’s the angle and the waistline that scrunches up and makes it appear that way, to some people. cuz i dont even see a tummy at all on her!
    her face-however-man, it’s like she keeps getting facial peels/scrubs and it’s making her look so rough. she was so naturally pretty and she’s not even 40-i wish she would have let herself age naturally for awhile…another one succumbs to filler and surgery fever….ugh.
    also, when women work out that much, it ages you, ya know? too much workout can actually add stress hormones, which contribute to ageing. that’s why bodybuilders and athletes are not known for their youthful radiance, face or even body wise.
    i’m all for a toned look, but softer is better IMO.
    Yin goes a long way for a woman.
  63. CB Rawks says:
    I had to look away when she started singing. It really was cringeworthy. Normally I would instantly feel sorry for the person in that situation, but this time it was Gwyneth. 😉
  64. That actress is almost as stunning as the dress!
