Natalie Portman and the hottie hiding under the long hair and beard she was dating, Devendra Banhart, 27, have broken up. In Touch reports the news and says they first started dating in March when Natalie appeared in a music video for Devendra. Natalie, 27 moved to LA to be near Devendra, but according to In Touch it wasn’t to be:
In Touch can exclusively reveal that Natalie Portman has split with her boyfriend, musician Devendra Banhart. “Yes, they have broken up,” a source close to Devendra tells In Touch. The couple met and fell in love while the actress, 27, filmed a role in Devendra’s music video, “Carmensita,” in March. Natalie, a native New Yorker, even moved to LA to be closer to the folk singer, 27. A friend of Devendra’s says, “Natalie and Devendra will remain friends but need some space and time away.”
[From In Touch]
It’s too bad that they didn’t work out. Natalie is young but at 27 she may be thinking about marriage and family and it’s possible Devendra wasn’t at that point yet. She’s a rare type of celebrity who seems both educated and grounded. She also manages to keep her private life under wraps. I was going to say “Natalie will find the right guy and settle down,” but then I realized how patronizing that sounds and how it’s not the ultimate goal of womankind to pair up. Most of us would be happy to reach even a small portion of Portman’s success.

Natalie seems like one of those drama fueled girls who never let themselves be happy.
I bet this breakup was her doing.

drama fueled girls who never let themselves be happy.
______Explain what a drama fueled girl is precisely because by that discription EVERY girl is like that to a certain degree. As for Nat I don’t know where that assumption came from but I have never associated Portman to drama queens but I did always think of her as highly intellegent.

“She’s a rare type of celebrity who seems both educated and grounded.”
=She’s a type of celebrity who comes across as haughty and pretentious in interviews. She really does. Along with Claire Danes (who made me want to puke when I listened to her talk about doing a Terminator movie on NPR — you’re talking about a TERMINATOR movie, woman! There’s nothing meaningful about that!)

Wow.
I really like Natalie Portman. The article didn’t really faze me, but the comments did. I thought she was one of the well-liked celebrities.
Natalie Portman has never stuck me as drama fueled. She seems to stay out of the limelight.
What do I know? I live in Illinois

I have a crush on Devendra Banhart and I am very sorry to see that you chose one of his less attractive pictures to accompany this story… We women want our daily dose of eye candy, and Brad doesn’t do it for me anymore!
(see this cute picture for example: http://www.rhino.com/rzine/images/Banhart1.jpg )

It just bugs me when these actresses stress how educated they are and then just use it to memorize a bunch of crap and then repeat it. That’s all acting is. Pretending to be someone else, like little kids do on the playground when they play house or soldiers. There’s nothing special about that. Why not USE their education? Like Danica Mckellar. Instead they just use big ridulous words to talk about how special it is they’re making too much money for doing something a little kid does everyday. I don’t care how many indie movies she chooses, Natalie Portman is no exception. That Zac Braff movie? Gimme a break. Overhyped muckity muck.
At MissMara - on the contrary, I think Devandra looks very nice there. His eyes look amazing.

I never though this guy was cute Justin Hartly now thaaaaaaaaats hot and cute lol!

I saw a pic of them together where he looked horrible and I thought, oh how nice! She isn’t shallow! He looks much better here (though I think the full on facial hair is gross).
I think she’s ok. Haven’t seen interviews with her though (only read a few) so maybe she comes across as rude. And I have tried acting (I had to, for a class on college) and it was a lot harder than I thought. To act WELL does indeed take talent. Just giving props to the thespians out there (not the people on shows like The Hills, etc:)

That would explain her seriously wonky apparel choices on the red carpet lately.

Devendra looks like that dude in college who tried to convince me to quit school and join his commune.
-
Devendra looks like one of those unsavory types my daddy warned me about in school. Ya know, the ones lure you in with great bud and interesting philosophical discussions - only to find out weeks later that they never have weed and their deep conversations are just some regurgitated hippie crap about karma and communal responsibility?
“Yeah, Devendra, I could really go for a bowl right now, too. No, Devendra, I missed Prof Sunbeam’s lecture on existential oneness. Care to illuminate me on the complexities of someone else’s philosophy while I pack this shit with the last of my nug?” Un.Savory.

He looks like a serial killer!

I’ve always been fascinated by Natalie Portman’s physical beauty; she seems absolutely flawless in photos. Her acting skills, however, is another matter.

I like looking at Natalie Portman. Yes, she comes off haughty, but I have always supposed that is because she has an Ivy League education and the adoration of Hollywood…and has had this sort of “position” in the world since before she left high school.
She’s been raised in an elitist community of people, and she is fully aware of the fact that she is better-educated, more wealthy, and has far greater exposure to the world and its cultural experiences than the vast majority of her fellow Earthlings.
She’s by no means a snob on the level of twats like Paris Hilton et al…so I forgive Ms. Portman for that little something that smacks of arrogance in her tone during interviews.
I’d be really shocked if it wasn’t there, honestly.
And…Claire Danes is a home-wrecking, ditzy, clueless little harlot. You cannot compare her to Natalie Portman.

This is going to sound snarky, but I always thought he was too good for her. I love Devendra–and I’ve never liked Natalie Portman’s acting in any film I’ve ever seen her in. (
At least one of my favourite singers will be out of the gossip sites now.
