Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds marry in super secret ceremony

It was beginning to look like Scarlett Johansson, 23, and Ryan Reynolds, 31, might be stuck in engagement limbo for so long that a wedding wasn’t going to happen. The two confirmed their engagement in May, but when asked about possible wedding plans, Scarlett said she “hadn’t even thought about it yet,” but that “I’m a private person, so I’m sure it will be as private as possible.” There were rumors that they were having trouble and weren’t going to make it official, but those seemed fueled by the lack of information more than anything else.

Scarlett did indeed marry Reynolds in a small private ceremony near Vancouver, Canada on Saturday. In fact it was so private that no one heard about it ahead of time and there are very few details at this point.

The small wedding took place at a remote wilderness resort outside Vancouver. Guests included Scarlett’s mother, Melanie Sloan, and her brother, Adrian Johansson.

Johansson, 23, and Reynolds, 31, who had been dating since Spring 2007, announced their engagement on May 5, the day the actress flashed a three-carat diamond ring estimated to be worth about $30,000 at the Met Costume Ball Gala.

[From Us Magazine]

Congratulations to Scarlett and Ryan and best wishes for a lifetime of happiness together. (That’s usually what I write in the wedding cards for people I don’t know well. It’s generic enough yet sounds heartfelt.)

Reynolds has three films coming out next year according to IMDB, The Proposal, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and Adventureland. He’s also working on another film in pre-production, Paperland. Johansson has He’s Just Not That Into You, due for release in February of next year, and is due to work on one more film. She has said that she hopes to direct in the near future. Hopefully these two have enough time off to have a romantic honeymoon.

Note by Ceilidh: Ryan Reynolds starting dating Johansson in April 2007, two months after Reynolds ended his five year relationship, and two year engagement, with Alanis Morrisette. Scarlett had dated Josh Hartnett for two years after meeting on the set of The Black Dahlia, splitting in November 2006.

Ryan and Scarlett always seemed to make alot more sense than Ryan and Alanis. Reynolds and Morissette were together for a long time and engaged but would never set a date. They claimed they already “felt married.” Those “felt marriages” are always easier to get a “felt divorce” from.

Eh good for them if it’s true I guess. I can’t really stand her. She seems snobby to me for some reason.

  2. Enonymous says:

They are one of those couples that you can smell their break up a mile away. I give them couple of months most.

  3. Sheila says:

Thank God that Alanis was smart and didn’t marry this clown. You will see that Ryan and Scarlett will be divorced within 2 years. Anyway congrats to them. 8)

  4. RAN says:

I think he’s adorable! Love to watch him act (even though he’s not the best actor in the world, he IS pretty damn funny) and love his facial expressions when he’s trying to act.

Agree with CB on this one point though, I never really thought he and Alanis M seemed like a “couple” – she’s too odd for some reason and he just didn’t seem to fit with her. Not sure how he and Scarlett J will turn out, but you never know til you try, eh? Good luck to them

  5. Sheila says:

^seriously what is too odd about Alanis? Ryan and Alanis were actually really cute couple

  6. Wif says:

I looked at the link you posted Sheila, you’re right, they were a really cute couple.

  7. Ms. K says:

Well, despite five years, it didn’t take him long to take up with someone else, so Alanis is better off without him–he didn’t seem that heartbroken. As for her being “odd,” she’s different, true, but unique. She needs to find another unique person.

  8. MonicaBee says:

I think Ryan & Alanis make more sense than Ryan & ScarJo, but whatevs.

Congratulations or something. 😐 This is another one that I don’t see lasting.

  9. Cinderella says:

Those were good photos. They looked so happy. I can see why the breakup was hard on Alanis.

I think some of us have had a “Ryan Reynolds” in our lives at one time. It sucks.

  10. Izzy says:

I’ll take that two year bet. I think they’ll last longer than that. They both seem to be the same personality types and just average people unlike shitney and paris.

  11. Anna says:

Now my last little slither of hope is gone… I won’t get to marry him! But seriously: I also thought they wouldn’t do it. But Scarlett is so very young and he so very much wants to be married, I don’t think this is compatible in the long term. They will be divorced within 2 years, at most.

I’m sorry, I just don’t feel any happiness for them, I think this is such a weird pairing and that it can’t possibly hold. Even Ashton and Demi seemed better made for each other, from the start.

Good for them for evading paparazzi attention though and not splashing the wedding album all over the tabloids. That’s classy.

  12. Kaiser says:

I am amazed – I thought they would be one of those permanently engaged couples – I think I just lost a bet. 🙁

  13. ER says:

I hate it when celebs say they’re a private person. Why are you in the business then if you’re so private? It’s kind of an oxymoron!

  14. ff says:

Wish them the best. What CB said.

  15. Ruby says:

‘Those “felt marriages” are always easier to get a “felt divorce” from.’

    Not nowadays.

I think they go well together – vacuous pair that they are. Alanis deserves better.

  16. snappyfish says:

He has been funny in some of his roles. I don’t care for her. I don’t really see the appeal but Woody Allen loves her so that will keep her in the business.

He just seemed to me like someone who wanted to marry someone famous. Now he has. Best of luck to them, she seems vacuous and they will need all best wishes they can get.

  17. Celeste says:

I’m thinking it might last two years although probably a stretch. I’m sure they’re both full of good intentions at this point, but she’s only 24. She’s not going to stick with one guy for the rest of her life…not going to happen.

  18. vdantev says:

👿 Damn his soul to the lowest foulest pit in Hell. 👿

  19. jess says:

ugh. the most perfect man in the world now married to the most overrated woman on the planet. the world is unjust.

  20. Anne says:

I would take ‘odd’ Alanis over pretty-boy Ryan any day.

These two (Scarlette and Ryan) seem like a match made in vapid and untalented heaven to me.

  21. Ruby says:

three-carat diamond ring should be worth about $300,000…lol

  22. (:s says:

The expression is “sliver of hope”…
    not “slither”…

  23. CiCi says:

Ryan Reynolds has alwasy seemed completely bland and unextraordinary to me. What is the appeal? That he looks like everyman? I guess his “good body.” Eh.

  24. Mellie says:

They will end up divorced with 2 years, with her leaving him because he is an idoit. Back in 2005, one of my friends was workiing at the Prada store in Whistler and she hooked up with him that night and lets just say Alians is not missing out on a loving, faithful partner!

  25. TC says:

Overrated. Yep, she is. I just realized how much Alanis looks like Casey Anthony though, or did before she gained weight. Anyway, good luck to them, but not much hope for couples who get married when either party is that young.

  26. CoolFatJewishkid says:

I give it 5 years and 2 children before they divorce. I don’t know either of them. But I am good with vibes and gut instinct (even though I haven’t met them), they could go either way. They could surprise everyone like Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance did, he met Lyn-Z and 3 weeks later where married and EVERYONE said that they’d be divorced in a week. But it’s been over a year and they are happy as ever. My parents met and 3 weeks later my mom moved across the country to be with him and they had 13 children together, they did divorce, but years and years later. Ryan and Scarlett could divorce in a few years but I think they’ll have a child first. Ryan is always gushing about children and anyone who’s been to ryanreynoldsonline.com knows that he is fond of little girls especially. He’s always swinging them and holding them and he’s made it clear he wants children. Proof that men want all the same things women do. They may last longer than every one guesses but I can feel a divorce within the next 6 years.

That was a long post, but I think it’s pretty accurate. Sweet Christ I would never want to be a celeb and have people going over my life like this.

  27. Dani says:

I’m surprised by the number of people who called this marriage’s demise to the T.

  28. Spot says:

So many pol were so spot on!!!
