Britney Spears on gay marriage: “I think everyone should be treated equally”

brit1

Britney Spears is the cover girl for the new issue of Out Magazine in a piece called “Britney Emails Her Heart”. The “catch” to the interview is that Out simply emailed a list of questions to Britney, and “Britney” answered them. This is “Britney’s” new thing, not doing interviews in person or on the phone. She answers questions via email or Twitter or something. Do you really think she’s answering these questions, or is it some intern or publicist? Who knows? Anyway, the full Out Mag piece is here, but I’ve just included everything from the Q & A:

Where were you the first time you heard one of your songs on the radio?
I was in New Orleans, and I was so excited. It’s such a cool feeling to hear your own song play on the radio. I still have the same kind of excitement when I hear any of my songs today.

How did you spend the first big check you received?
On a bright white Mercedes convertible.

When was the first time you saw a Britney Spears drag queen?
In New Orleans singing “Slave 4 U.” I almost died!

When you were starting out, whose career did you want to mold yours after?
Madonna. No question. She is an amazing entertainer. Besides Madonna, I also admire Sarah Jessica Parker’s career and her shoe collection.

Are there any of your songs that you wish you hadn’t recorded/you don’t really love?
No. All of my songs are f–ing amazing.

How is Femme Fatale different from your other albums?
I think Femme Fatale is my most upbeat and mature album yet.

Who are some of the stand out collaborators on Femme Fatale?
I collaborated with Will.I.Am. I am a huge fan of Black Eyed Peas, and I have always wanted to work with him. I also worked with a new up-and-coming artist from the L.A. area named Sabi. She raps on a song I love called “(Drop Dead) Beautiful.”

Assuming reincarnation exists, in a previous life I think I was… Audrey Hepburn, because she was a trend setter.

Assuming reincarnation exists, in my next life I’d life to be… A bird, so I can fly.

My idea of hell is…Being on a diet.

My idea of heaven is… A trip with my kids.

If you hadn’t become a superstar, what career do you think you would have chosen?
I was in seventh grade and it was career day and I remember thinking that I wanted to be an entertainment lawyer. I always knew I would be in this business somehow. I think this path worked out way better.

What album do you consider life-changing? Natalie Imbruglia’s Left of the Middle.

Which Disney princess do you relate to most and why? It depends on the day.

What is the best advice you’ve gotten and who was it from?
My mom said when you have a bad day, eat ice cream. That’s the best advice.

What is the worst advice a record executive ever told you?
Someone once told me that the “…Baby One More Time” video should be me as a superhero fighting a giant robot monster.

What was the last nightmare you had? That someone was chasing me.

How would you feel if one of your sons turned out to be gay? I love my boys no matter what.

Do you listen to your contemporaries’ music?
Yes. I love Gaga and Rihanna. Rihanna’s “S & M” is awesome.

Which song from the last 10 years do you wish you had recorded?
Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie.”

What is your ideal way to spend a Sunday?
Playing with my boys, getting some frozen yogurt, working out, and taking a nap.

What is the dumbest, most ridiculous rumor that has been printed about you?
That I was an alien.

What is the rumor that hurt the most? That I had died in a car accident.

What women (living or dead) could make you think twice about your sexuality?
I only have eyes for men.

Who is your favorite Golden Girl? Betty White, because she’s so sweet and innocent.

Do you have any phobias? Flying, because I’m not in control.

The best part of being famous is… Being able to reach people and hopefully make them happy.

The worst part of being famous is… Giving up your privacy.

How does the thought of turning 30 later this year make you feel?
I’m excited to be out of my 20s.

How do you feel about plastic surgery? When it’s time to pull and tuck, I’m sure I will consider it.

I first learned about sex… When I was 12 years old. From my mom. I was confused and disgusted.

Kissing Madonna was… Cool.

You’ve been married twice — once for only 55 hours. How do you feel about gay marriage? I think everyone should be treated equally.

Lady Gaga is… Unique.

Christina Aguilera is… Truly talented.

Britney Spears is… ME!

[From Out Magazine]

Okay, that was kind of a cute piece, and I really liked her answers. Britney seems to support her gay fan base without having to pander so hard (like Lady Gaga). Britney just IS. In the introduction to the Q & A, the Out writer even made the same point – people like Britney because she makes solid dance music and she’s a survivor and she doesn’t pretend to be something she’s not.

Eww! these pics of her are terrible! …. especially the one with her leg up!! (We do NOT need to see britney from that angle!)

And someone PLS DYE HER EYEBROWS BROWN!

All her interviews are rinse & repeat…

  2. Ari says:

I kind of want her to just retire and remain the pop icon she is and then lend her hand to maybe producing. Her dancing career is over IMHO

  3. Hakura says:

The answers were pretty short (of course that could’ve been because there were so many questions to cover)… & admittedly there’s no way to prove SHE wrote them.

But I still think it was cute =) It does sound like her, at least.

  4. Violet says:

god hard to believe she’s not even 30 yet! she’s been around so long and gone through such a huge spectrum of fame-related crap.

  5. Rita says:

“Assuming reincarnation exists, in a previous life I think I was… Audrey Hepburn, because she was a trend setter.”

Standing in that mystical line of those waiting to be reincarnated, Audrey has finally lost her poise and grace with a scream of “YOU’VE GOT TO BE F’N KIDDING ME!!!!!!”. (Courtney should be able to confirm).

Also, thank God for Kevlar spandex.

  6. PamelaJ says:

She’s not dumb, cause she’s promoting herself to the gay audience, right before her album comes out. She has a huge gay following…good for her! The fact that she believes in marriage equality is also a big plus!

  7. Cherry Rose says:

Wow. She’s gained some weight and she looks great.

I wish she’d just take her money, disappear and just concentrate on getting her life back together. She’s certainly got enough money that she doesn’t need to worry about work again.

  8. Marc says:

    She really needs brow lift.

  9. baby says:

gosh this makes me feel old! it feels like such a long time ago when i was doing chores all week at my parents house to earn enough money to buy her CD in 7th grade!!! love her tho, and she’ll always be relevant. i liked her answers too. altho i’m sure she didnt come up with them..kinda sketch that she won’t do any live interviews, only “emails”

  10. ladyballz says:

What the EFF is up with that pressed ham ass shot? BLECH.

  11. ello says:

I think her responses demonstrate her immaturity. I’m not sure why I feel sorry for her–maybe because she seems stuck in a rut and hasn’t evolved. That unfortunate leotard is not helping her win me over either.

  12. sapphire says:

Although the whole train wreck thing had me riveted (along with everybody else), I do feel sorry for her. What else can she do or does she want to do?

  13. FatJenny LovesCake says:

I remember years back, she performed at the 2007 MTV Awards – everyone was saying she was fat. To this day, I still wonder why people were saying she was out-of-shape, cause she looked physically fine. We’ll see if she returns with fury. I never really liked her but she’s grown on me, cause she doesn’t seem to care what people think.

With all that said, I do think she’s a horrible dresser and is in need of a good stylist.

  14. bluhare says:

I like Britney, I really do. SHe’s had a tough go the last few years, but seems to be getting back on track. She did crack me up about Audrey Hepburn, though. She might be a lot of things, but a reincarnated Holly Golightly is not one of them!

  15. Heatheradair says:

@luls – THANK YOU! My first thought was “grab some pencil and FIX THOSE EYEBROWS!”

With all of the smokey liner, makes her eyes look droopy and sad…..

  16. Laura says:

She learned about sex when she was twelve…???? No wonder she’s f***ed up

  17. Gabriela says:

    I love Brit 😉

  18. daisy says:

Did anyone catch that in a former life she would have liked to be a bird so she can fly, then she said later her phobia is flying.Poor Brit Brit. She is so confused.

  19. sarah says:

I liked that interview and love Britney! She’s cool… 🙂

  20. The_Porscha says:

I think what happens with these questionnaires is that they give them to her, let her answer, and then a publicist or somebody “cleans” it up or plays editor before sending it back. She may or may not have a mental illness but she’s not developmentally disabled, and I think she answers the questions on her own and people rephrase them so she doesn’t look as ditzy as Jessica Simpson. Back in Spears’ younger days, she had multiple gaffes that proved she wasn’t exactly booksmart, so they’re probably just trying to keep her from winging it.

  21. Jayna says:

This sounds completely like Brit Brit, because they’re short and no huge deep thoughts, like she talks in real life. But she sounds good and I like the photos. Glad to see life is treating her well, but she’s dreaming to say an entertainment lawyer. LOL

Nice to see her give great kudos to Christina.

  22. malina says:

    Sounds like Britney 🙂

@ daisy – yes, her phobia is flying cause she’s not exactly the one flying (in control of the flying) when she’s on the plane unlike when you’re a bird and fly for itself…

And I like how they didn’t retouch the photos to make her legs look slimmer!

  23. RHONYC says:

best quote: “No. All of my songs are f–ing amazing.”

fake it till they believe it, sister! 😆

nice try: “Audrey Hepburn, because she was a trend setter.”

uh…yeah, that and a fashion ICON, brit.

    tomato, tomaato. 😉

  24. caramia says:

This interview was mind-bogging, Brit can think? Wow, I have a headache.

  25. jover says:

Oh for GOd sake Brit Brit isn’t Kant or Plato – she’s never had an intelligent thought in her life that her pr/management team and/or father didn’t sanitize and dress up – and the fact that she has an album coming out vitiates her “response” – if she had supported gay marriage, on her own volition, say five years ago, then maybe I’d believe it was an authentic opinion – as PamelaJ said this is playing to an audience to sell her crap music. WHy do we take these people seriously when they discourse on the issues of the day.

  26. citmyway says:

that last picture is just wrong wrong wrong. For some reason when I look at her I feel like she stinks, like B.O. stink. I guess b/c her hair always looks so nasty. They can touch up her pics all they want, you don’t fool me Britney!

  27. Jess says:

She looks gorgeous on the cover!

  28. melinda says:

Good interview. The pic with the leg up caught me off guard and was a little alarming.

  29. Faye says:

I’ve been Britney fan from day one. I danced around my room to “Hit Me Baby One More Time” back in elementary school and I dance around my room to “Hold it Against Me” today. I might just go do it right now.

  30. Emily says:

I love Britney, she seems like such a sweet girl, though I still think she’s quite messed up. I hope she gets better-and gets rid of that fucking weave!

Also, she thinks Left of the Middle was life changing? WTF? Natalie Imbruglia was a one hit wonder who’s only still famous because she married an actual, talented musician.

  31. Newbie says:

@Laura: I learned about sex when I was eight. And I don’t just mean the basics. All the hairy details. Scared the evah-livin’ out of me. Ran home from elementary school bawling my bloody eyes out. I saw a therapist for a few years. I wouldn’t sit on my parents bed. I always imagined that their hands were pretty dirty. I didn’t like jazzy music playing if the lights were low. I remember my father shaking his head and wondering aloud if I’d ever grow up to be normal. Well…I’m certainly not normal now per se, but I DID wake up one morning in my mid-teens thinking, “man, I really need to get me some of that lovin’.” I’ve been ok ever since. True story.

  32. WillyNilly says:

Bullsh*t. What 7th grader thinks to themselves – I want to be an entertainment lawyer???

  33. lucy2 says:

Whoever did that to her eyebrows owes her an apology.

I agree that it’s probably edited by a publicist.

  34. Nibbi says:

k it s not the leg-up shot that disturbs me so much (her legs look damn good, tho how much airbrushing was needed? is it even possible that her legs look so good?) but that FIRST one. i mean god are they doing it on purpose or something that um the bottom part of the leotard looks penile?

  35. Hakura says:

@Baby (9)- “gosh this makes me feel old! it feels like such a long time ago when i was doing chores all week at my parents house to earn enough money to buy her CD in 7th grade!!!”

God, I’m with you there, it feels like forever ago. (We must be the same age xD) I was in Brit’s target audience (a young teenager) when she first became popular, so of course I idolized her. xD Of course I didn’t want anyone to know that at the time. xD

@Laura“She learned about sex when she was twelve…???? No wonder she’s f***ed up”

12 is a very normal age to talk about such things… especially when you consider that many girls already have their period by then (it only makes sense for them to understand why they’re cursed with such a thing…Not to overshare, but I was ‘cursed’ at 11 x_x .) Besides that, the hormones are starting to become active then, so it’s a good age to start those conversations.

@Newbie (31)- LOL!! Wow, 8 is pretty damned young. (They taught you about it in elementary school at 8? Or you found out about it elsewhere & it caused you such trauma you ran home from school? xD
    ————-
I’m with everyone who thinks the questions were answered by Brit, but to her publicist… who then cleaned up & reworded some things.

  36. Addie says:

    Uhm
    Didn’t AH die in 1993?
    Wasn’t Brittany born late 70’s early 80’s?

Hope her kids are getting a better chance at higher education than her parents gave her

  37. JQ says:

I have to admit Britney’s really grown on me over the years. Can she sing like Christina? No. Is she Madonna? No. But she doesn’t try to be them. She just is, as you say. And I love what she says about bad days…ice cream definitely makes a bad day better!

  38. soni says:

I don’t agree with her on the equality of gay people

  39. Toe says:

The girl has some nice legs…DAMN!!!

  40. Flan says:

@Soni, guess you only agree on the superiority of whatever group you’re part of?

It’s funny how it is always those who condemn the hardest, who whine the loudest when they get condemned in return.

  41. Newbie says:

@Hakura: I found out about it through a friend at school. My parents were so taken aback that they confirmed everything before stopping to think that that may not have been the best idea…
