It’s a very rare occasion when I like an outfit worn by Katie Holmes, but it does happen sometimes. This is one of those days – yesterday, Katie was out and about in New York without Tom or Suri (although I think I see some handlers lurking), and she was wearing an outfit I approve of. I love this coat. This coat is the wrong color for my skin tone, but I love this coat on Katie, and I would wear it. I also love her J-Brand jeans. I love the combo of the jeans with the coat. I love her shoes. I love her Max Mara bag. Katie finally got one right, from head to toe! This just proves to me that Katie’s “street style” instincts are much better than her red carpet style instincts.
Anyway, I don’t really know why Katie is in New York, and I have no idea where Tom is these days. I think he might be in Canada, somewhere. Those two keep really different schedules, and it seems like Katie and Suri just go off and do their own thing in a different city all the time. Isn’t it funny that Katie always looks better and happier when Tom’s not around? Right?

Sad commentary when a pretty girl is photographed with a half smile or grin and looks “unusually happy”. Nice coat.

I agree – I’ve NEVER seen her look this happy/relaxed when she’s out and about with Tiny Tom.
only when they’re on the red carpet or at some other industry function does she smile when she’s with him, and even then it’s such a forced “I gotta fulfill my contract” type of smile.
It is wild how different she looks with a smile! How sad that it is this rare. Usually she looks like something sucked her soul right out, leaving a hollow carapace.

If I was Katie, I would totally have a piece on the side. Maybe several in different cities. I would bet you a million dollars that she and Tom have never had sex. Ugh, and even if they did at his behest, I bet he’s one of those controlling guys who has to micro-manage the whole thing. It would be more fun to have a root canal with no painkillers.
They didn’t have to have sex to have Suri either. It was either that other dude’s kid or artificial insemination.

I don’t if it’s because of the ridiculous amount of Kate M. pictures I’ve been seeing lately but in the pictures with sunglasses she looks a little Kate Middleton-ish. Just me? I normally agree with you on coats but it is just ok. For Katie just ok is a significant improvement.
I feel for Katie, don’t ask me why. Did anyone ever see the episode of Punk’d she was on? She is kind of meek. She is a cutie and Suri is a little hell raiser which I love. I am going to love watching her shenanigans as she grows up. (Same with the Pitt spawn)
Praise – Not to defend the Mail’s ID, but many of the big media outlets get press releases from various brands and designers, identifying which celebrities are wearing their clothes. We occassionally get those too, so it totally could have been that J. Brand sent out press releases when these photos came out!

It’s really nice to see her smile. She used to have a sort of cute, bubbly personality, very sweet and charming. Since Tom got his claws into her she’s just seems robotic and sad. I can’t wait til the ‘contract’ is over. I would love a tell-all book!

You should see photos of her and Tom in Canada – she was all the time smiling while they were together. There are tons of photos when she is with her daughter and she is not smiling. Does that mean she does not enjoy the time with her daughter or she is miserable when with her daughter? I am sure she is happy with him, let’s accept that and let these two enjoy their marriage. I really have a huge respect for this woman. People may say whatever things they want, it is everybody’s opinion, but there is nothing in the full sense of bad or mean to say about her.
Hot news about Cruise: The Denver Post is reporting that Tom is getting a huge tax break on his land in Telluride because of a loophole for “gentleman farmers.” In exchange for allowing sheep to graze on his land for a short period, he pays only $400 a year in taxes on 248 acres that cost him nearly $18 million!
Meanwhile the Colorado legislature is probably eyeing ways to cut state workers’ pensions they “can’t afford” … I hope something is done to close this loophole.

It’s a Max Mara classic coat. I have one, too. It’s expensive, but the good thing is that you can wear it for years and it’s always perfect. I bought it something like 4 years ago.

@Lindsay- I totally think she looks like and reminds me of Kate M too! I’ve thought that for awhile. They’re both tall, anexoric and sort of desparate looking all the time, plus their fashion is not good (although Kate M is better). The skinnier Kate M gets, the more she looks like dumb Katie Holmes.
You know MaxMara gave her the coat and the bag for free. I seriously doubt she paid for them.

I love that coat as well. That color is gorgeous.
That coat isn’t much different from my auntie’s dressing gown. It would be nice if it had some buttons, or something that would tone down that light brown/beige, which is too much.
But she looks good, she would look good even on a trash bag when she smiles.

I don’t know why ( but as I suspect many others who post here do), I feel for Katie. Seeing her looking like she’s feeling good about herself is so great. But God, that very last picture included up there (looking at her from behind) isn’t flattering.
It almost looks like she’d been upset/crying in that one because of her eyes, (Could be allergies or a cold too, though.)… Who are the 2 guys in bright red coats right behind her, wearing what look like phone ear-pieces? They look like the British guard, standing there looking stoic. (or like the secret service…) Are they her ‘handlers’? o.O Or bodyguards, maybe?

Well, it’s not *just* that she hasn’t been smiling in a lot of the pictures… It’s this aura she seems to give off, like she’s really dragging & depressed, or always exhausted. It makes it hard not to think she’s unhappy with her marriage (or her life as it is right now) when those are the sort of pictures we see 95% of the time.
