Amy Winehouse on 24-hour suicide watch by her friends

Amy Winehouse is not afraid to die young and may be nearing the end of her rope. Winehouse reportedly is on 24-hour suicide watch by her friends after threatening to kill herself with a knife she had at her own chest. Her friends were able to get the knife away from her, but Amy is saying she doesn’t see the point in living anymore.

Amy, 25, is said to be on suicide watch after apparently holding a knife to her chest and saying, “What’s the point in living?”
It is claimed the ‘Back to Black’ singer is obsessed with the idea of dying young and was left distraught after her husband Blake Fielder-Civil - currently serving a 27-month sentence for grievous bodily harm and perverting the course of justice - turned down early parole from prison, leaving Amy saying she is “caught up in a nightmare”.

[From FemaleFirst]

The UK tabloid, The Daily Star, says Amy is saying it’s her destiny to follow in the footsteps of her idol, Sex Pistols’ Sid Vicious. Viscious died from a heroin overdose at 21.

“Amy has a death wish. Her emotions are exaggerated She is either high all the time or when she hears something she doesn’t like, she’s suicidal.
“She is all for this stupid Sid Vicious notion of dying young. She is not scared of it and believes it is her destiny.”

[From The Daily Star]

Like her or lump her, it’s not fun watching anyone spiral down through addiction and death. Knowing that this is part of the rockstar mystique Amy has about herself makes it hard to know what to think about the people around her and how much they may have tried to help but were rebuffed. Witness statements at this point should be enough to get something legally done now that she’s a clear danger to herself.

  1. My goodness. I forget that it was only last year that she was a beautiful up and coming talented whole life and world ahead of her. It seems like I could go on and on about the potential she had last year. Now it seems like we should be making bets on when she’s gonna pass. Tacky I know but everyday I see her in the headlines I’m surprised it’s not saying she’s dead.

  2. What are they watching her do, kill herself? Isn’t it high time for someone to step in and take action rather than ’suicide watch’?! I’m beginning to hate her friends and family - and, quite frankly, I never even knew who she was til she hit the tabloids.

    This is such a shame….

  3. @ Ceilidh: I agree with you—-NOW, her family should be able to “section” her (that’s the same as involuntary commitment here in the US, right?), now that she’s a danger to herself. Pity that no one thought she was a danger to OTHERS, as she’s only been hitting, spitting, and headbutting people for what, the last 6 months? Jeez! When do these people say, “Enough is enough”?
RAN, it IS a shame; and Alecto, I never knew who she was either, until she began to appear here last year. I went to YouTube and tried to listen to some of her music, and she was stoned/drunk in the stuff I found. I couldn’t even make it through a whole song. She DOES have an amazing voice, though she and I may disagree on her choice of material!
But seriously, I want her to get help, and I don’t want to see her die, but every time I see a new article on her, I’m steeling myself for the news that she’s finally done, and incredulous that she’s still alive.

  4. Suicide Watch… sounds legit… As long as she’s paying them in cash and drugs, they’ll watch her abuse said drugs and commit slow suicide.. thats the logic of it right?

  9. Mitch Winehouse is getting all in a state over some illiterate ramblings from his scummy son-in-law while people keep vigil over his suicidal death-wish daughter. Priorities?

  11. Her do-nothing “friends” should have called the police when the knife episode happened. At least that way she’d be in a hospital by now at least under a period of observation if nothing else. Maybe this time they would have committed her.

  12. It really is a shame that she is heading down far and fast like this. I love her music style and she is incredibly talented. I love the Sex Pistols too, but Sid Vicious was freaking crazy. Is she going to kill someone before she ODs too?

  13. JaundiceMachine:

It’s so sad that she feels she has nothing left to live for, but it’s not really news. Her actions have been screaming self-hatred for months.

A lot of deeply suicidal people are obsessed with “dying young” or “dying pretty”. And though it seems bleak now, there is still hope for her to live a long, happy, debaucherous life - with the proper psychiatric treatment.

A bunch of kids (regardless of whether they are sober and scared shitless, or sitting around getting high) on “suicide watch” is not going to be beneficial for Amy’s wellbeing.

She has the classic, ’strung out on opiates’ look about her, on the right. I’d know that face anywhere. So very, very sad. :(

  14. I thought she killed herself. I only saw her pic and a word suicide.. i was like: WOW:

I can’t help but be horribly saddened every single time I read a story about her, I love her voice and her music; it really does help me get through the day sometimes. I am saddened even more so as I listen to her lyrics and realize that she has had this internal turmoil/pain for quite some time now.

  17. STOP the watch - let her kill herself, then we wont have to look at that nasty face anymore! Thats probably why she’s trying, she looked in a mirror!

  20. Amy Winehouse is possibly the longest, slowest suicide ever. Really she’s not going to live, it’s just a matter of time. Blake’s getting her cash one way or another, and boy will her mommy and daddy cry when he has all her loot and they have none.

  22. It’s so hard to make someone want to live if they don’t, quit drugs if they won’t. Amy Winehouse has been slowly killing herself for the past year or more. I’m sure her parents don’t know what else to do.
