As Russell Brand promotes Arthur in a multitude of print interviews, a picture begins to form. Brand continues to talk up his marriage to Katy Perry, trying to convince us that he finds Katy “endlessly fascinating” and that he’s settled down for good. BUT, in every interview there’s usually some aside or quote or anecdote about Russell and Helen Mirren, his costar in Arthur. I’ve long been interested in Helen and Russell’s relationship. They seem much, much closer than costars, or even professional friends. Helen describes Russell as her “best” friend and he gave her a safety pin necklace that she wears all the time. Basically, I think Helen and Russell are in love. I think that they may have already had a torrid affair, and if they didn’t, they totally should.
So these are photos of Helen’s ceremony at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre, where she did her hand prints and shoe prints. Russell was in attendance! He even introduced her, telling the crowd that he is “in love with her” (see video here). Unfortunately for the torrid affair, Helen’s husband Taylor Hackford was there too. I wonder if Taylor kept his eye on Russell? Russell is WAY more affectionate with Helen than anybody else. I love them together. Sigh…

Why always with the bulge, Russel? This is the second time I’ve seen it today in a picture with a much older woman (Katy’s mom was the first time).

I just don’t think that there’s anything creepy or inapproriate. Yeah, it’s a bit unorthodox, but it’s sweet. I love that Helen is holding her shoes on the red carpet. He’s like a protector or something, just loves her to pieces. Awesome!

I love Helen Mirren and she looks fantastic in that picture (I especially like that short haircut!). I do not like Russell Brand and find his endless groping of Helen to be out of place and disgusting – wonder what Katy and Helen’s hubby thinks of “one track mind” Russ!

Its common and expected to talk abotu your costar- especially with tons of praise and admiration- as part of the promotion (convince us its a work of unmatched art) and as part of the butt-kissing that keeps someone landing roles. He has to pay his dues like all the rest of the actors/entertainers– and plenty of actors have been waayyyyy more mushy and gushy with their praise and constant talking of their costars than he has.
I think Helen isn’t too bright in her expectations for herself, whereas Katy is apparently controlling and jealous/insecure just wanting to prove somethign to herself– so Helen and Russel would make a better match, IMO…

My sense is that they have very compatable humor and enjoy each other’s company while playing up the flirtations. Helen is a fox and if she’s looking for meat, she can eat any where.

Well Helen Mirren doesn’t need to accomplish the stereotypical woman (blonde, boobs, botox), she is way too smart, too intelligent and this makes her charming; plus she is talented. Katy Perry disappears in comparison with Dame Mirren,because there are very few women like her in the business, so I understand why Russell is in love with her.

Strangely I find these two more appropriate/real than Perry and Brand. Katy Perry is a blip on the radar for this guy… nothing against her, but Russell isn’t the one for her.
Too many interviews, too high profile. Pull it like Reese Witherspoon and get married quietly, and then we can talk. Otherwise….

I just saw RED the other night and Helen Mirren was so hot as an assasin. I think the role fit her personality quite well… i agree with @Rita, Mirren is a “fox”.

I think Helen is the only woman who could possibly make Russell toe the line. I want to be as amazing as her some day. I agree I’d pick Helen over Russell or Katy anyday. No comparison.
Helen Mirren is the kind of woman all of us should aspire to be like. Of course, I don’t know all the dirty saucy secrets in her closet. Yet somehow I bet they would make her even more fabulous.

You know what I love about Helen (other than telling Morley Safer she’d “take her kit off” for their interview if he would too), she’s totally age appropriate. She doesn’t hide her age, but she looks FABULOUS. That dress she’s wearing in the pics . . . not over the top, not matronly but so so suitable.

He adores her in a non-sexual way. Nothing wrong with that. Why must everything be about sex? Hmm…but it is with men, isn’t it? lol Honestly, I don’t get any weirdness coming from them, and certainly I don’t wish they would ‘do’ each other since they are both happily ensconced in marriages to other people. But I do LOVE that he is putting forth the ‘older women are sexy too’ vibe with her.

They’re not in love, doofus. You know what this looks exactly like? I’m a big fan of Harold and Maude. And Bud Cort and Ruth Gordon were close in almost precisely the same way during the filming and for years after. Why? Because Ruth was a fabulous wise brilliant beautiful woman in a particular way, and Bud still wasn’t out. You may as well say that Bette Midler and Barry Manilow were in love. People have been murmuring about Russell, and I didn’t really pay much heed; but Katy’s a perfect beard, now that I see what’s going on here. That silly man. Let’s hope he figures it out sooner rather than later, before he starts ruining lives.

I don’t really get all this “Helen’s so amazing” stuff. The reaction to her seems similar to the way people react to Kate Winslet. Perhaps it’s a British thing. Sure they’re both okay but let’s not go overboard.

I think it’s hilarious that you guys always go back to them having an affair, but from what I see, it could totally happen! I’m sure Helen is way more worldly and fascinating than Katy.
