Miley Cyrus criticizes YouTube stars: “It should be harder to be an artist”

wenn3215864

There are a handful of celebrities that I consistently feel sympathy for. Even when I’m one of the many people beating up on them, I’ll feel a twinge of “But they’re not a completely bad person.” Miley is one of those people. Miley has done a lot of dumb stuff. She’s done drugs and been inappropriate and yeah, she’s pretty trashy, in general. But most of the time I don’t really hate her, I feel bad for her. I think it’s because I feel like she never really had a chance to be anything else. Miley was always going to be a version of what she is now, and all she can control is the level of stupidity, the level of snottiness, the level of bitchiness, the level of trashiness.

Miley has some good sides to her character – most stories have her being very kind and generous to fans, and let’s face it, the girl’s work ethic is pretty awesome. But the bad sides to her character? Miley is petty. She’s a drama queen. She’s jealous and judgy. And she can be a snotty little hypocrite too. So Miley in Australia, on tour, and she’s doing press. She was asked about Justin Bieber and other “celebrities” who were launched through YouTube. Miley spits on them, like the only way to get famous is through The Mullet’s machinations:

Singer Miley Cyrus slammed musical artists who launched to stardom by posting clips to YouTube, as she promoted her first tour in Australia.

“It should be harder to be an artist. You shouldn’t just be able to put a song on YouTube and go out on tour,” Cyrus said when asked about singers like Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black, who got their start on the video sharing website.

The controversial teen pop star spoke to The Daily Telegraph ahead of her upcoming tour in Australia this June. No circus tricks, a few costume changes and a set list influenced by shout-outs from the crowd, for a ticket price less than $100, will be the key ingredients of her Gypsy Heart shows.

“I don’t lip-sync. I would rather someone say I sang like crap than have people see me lip-sync,” she said.

The 18-year-old who catapulted to fame in the Disney TV series “Hannah Montana” most recently made headlines for smoking a herbal substance in a bong.

“I mess up. There you go,” Cyrus said. “But if you live your life trying to be perfect, you don’t really live your life ever,” she continued.

She also said she is looking forward to launching her first tour in the country she most recently visited last year — with then-boyfriend actor Liam Hemsworth.

“I was only there for a week and I loved it so I’m looking forward to exploring and meeting a lot of people. Australians are a lot like southern people. You love BBQ as much as we do,” she added.

[From Fox News]

She comes across really snotty, right? That being said, she DOES have a point. Maybe I just feel weird that Miley said something that’s come out of my mouth, word-for-word: “It should be harder to be an artist.” It really should, Miley! Now put on some pants and come home. We need to have a talk about how you consider yourself an “artist”.

Just snorted out loud at the headline. I’m sure she considers herself an artist that had to work to get where she’s at. She didn’t have a famous parent/lots of money that made it easier to get that foot in the door. Nope. Definitely not.

  2. Anoneemouse says:

    Dearest Miley:

Not everyone is lucky to have a Father in show business that paves the way for them.

    Sincerely,

    Everyone

  3. Ally says:

Ummm. She is famous because of her Dad… huh? Did she forget?

  4. The Truth Fairy says:

My imagined Miley explanation: Yeah, like your daddy should be like famous and like that’s how you become a star. That is like so much harder than becoming a star on Youtube. Duh!

  5. sasa says:

Well that’s a foot into your own mouth. I also snickered at the headline.

  6. sandy says:

i agree with the comment, just not coming out of her mouth.

  7. Hollowdoll says:

Are you kidding, she thinks she’s the judge of who’s an artist and who isn’t? If you create music and people are willing to pay to see you and hear you, then go on tour. Her music is boring and repetitive. I hate Beiber with a passion but I think youtube is a great equalizer.

  8. Fire says:

Love the pictures you chose to go with this story!

  9. Margot says:

I’m sorry… didn’t you infact ride your father’s coattails into fame by being lucky enough to have someone connected in the buisness? Oh. I’m sorry, I guess you forgot about that. Miley isn’t an artist – she’s an entitled little brat.

  10. LindyLou says:

Umm yeah because Miley spent years singing in little smoky hole-in-the-wall clubs getting beer thrown at her by drunken music critics. Whatever Cyrus-Spawn!

  11. Photo JoJo says:

It takes some serious balls to be Miley Cyrus and make that kind of comment.

  12. brin says:

Uh, Miley, “Hannah Montana” isn’t exactly Shakespeare either.

  13. spotchecker says:

    @ miley

    aaaaand your point is?….

  14. Kaboom says:

You can say one thing for a YouTube star like Bieber: They are where they are by virtue of public acclamation and without a PR and marketing machine like Disney to boost them into orbit. Last time I checked that actually WAS the hallmark of an accomplished artist.

  15. quest says:

Ms. Hanna Montana should count her lucky stars that it is actually that easy to be an artist. Just STFU and be thankful

  16. Melanie says:

She also claimed that Radiohead lacked talent. Ms. Cyclops is very full of her self.

  17. dannyexplosion says:

Why should it be harder to be an artist? That doesn’t make any sense. Did you mean it should be harder to be popular? Why would you want art to be harder for artists to make? Pure stupid.

  18. littlemissnaughty says:

People who have had to work their way up are allowed to say this. She is not.
And what’s wrong with youtube? If you’re crap, you won’t have any success through youtube but you might be successful with the right record label and marketing machine. That’s supposed to be how you become an artist??? Through the music industry? Oh excuse me, through daddy. Please.
Youtube gives people opportunities when an industry that is solely focused on money won’t.
And her acting on that dreadful show is crap. An artist evolves. She thinks that means wearing fewer and fewer clothes. I’ve never really paid attention to her but this is just uninformed and childish.

  19. mscandy says:

Actually, In a way she is right-
There’s artist that are working and putting the time in to get noticed or have their work supported. You see these youtube artist get notice quicker without putting the work in. Many are doing redentions to major artist music…
There is more to being an artist than putting a youtube video out.

Not hating anyone but she does have a point

  20. Hollowdoll says:

I don’t think youtube is any different than someone playing in dive bar after dive bar hoping to get a record contract. This is 2011. Times have changed. Some who get a contract really deserve it, some of them, not so much.

  21. teehee says:

Well when it starts to come from people like HER, we know we’re hitting rock bottom (but we didnt need her to inform us of that)

  22. beanie says:

Egh! Those fake boobs and her chinless wonder butter face needs to shut up!

  23. Lizzard says:

While the remark may have seemed a bit judgey and snotty, I think the meaning behind it is true. I don’t think thes You Tube stars should put out a video that gets millions of hits and all of a sudden they are everywhere and can go on tour, it takes more than that. I don’t think she’s questioning their talents, I think she just means that a lot of hits on You tube does not a star make.

  24. OriginalGracie says:

Yeah, it should be, Miley. And under those new rules we wouldn’t be subjected to your “talent” either.

  25. sasa says:

I think YT is a much more fair criteria then many which are commonly used (connections, wealth, luck).

  26. janica says:

Harder to be a star? Like what – MKULTRA?

  27. nikki says:

Oh no! Youtube is a place where the public gets to decide what they like and don’t like rather than having a huge corporation like Disney shove it down everyone’s throats.
That would mean people who aren’t rich or know someone famous would have the chance to get noticed for their musical talents as well. How awful.

  28. nikki says:

    @Melanie
She said radiohead didn’t have talent?!

  29. demaderas says:

This silly little girl is a commodity, not an artist. She insults artists everywhere by including herself among them. MC generates product, which is marketed with the goal of creating maximum profit. She might as well be “creating” buttons; at least they serve a useful purpose in our world, unlike MC’s “music.”

  30. lucy2 says:

This would mean more coming from someone who hadn’t had a foot in the door with her father, and is a product of the Disney machine.
Without that, I bet she’d have been on youtube just like these other people, trying to catch a break. Though I can’t say I’ve ever been impressed by her voice, so she probably wouldn’t have made it that way.
If you’re going to hold yourself up as an “artist” so you can put others down, you’d better have the goods to back it up.

  31. sapphire says:

My question is why does she consider herself an artist?

  32. jenn says:

People use the means available to them to express themselves as artists. For Miley, it was her dream and her famous dad. For most other people, it’s their dream and then asking people to let them play for them, and putting up media online. If you have a lot of hits on youtube, and a lot of fans on youtube, then you are connecting with people, period. I would argue that that form of artistry is both hard work as well as more authentic than, from birth, being connected to power figures in media and getting mass marketing behind you as soon as you realize it’s your dream to be a singer. If miley weren’t her dad’s kid, she would probably have 100 videos up on youtube, herself. And there would be nothing wrong with that.

  33. DetRiotgirl says:

Kaiser, I’m right there with you. I have a weird kind of sympathy towards her too.

The only thing I’ll give her is that she really doesn’t lip sync. That’s kind of rare among these pop tarts, especially given that Miley also dances through most of her songs. She’s not the greatest pop singer I’ve ever seen. But, shockingly, she’s also not the worst.

That said, RE the YouTube comment: STFU Miley. Piggy backing off of daddy’s fame is a no more legitimate road to success than pushing yourself on the Internet. In fact, I would even argue it’s less legitimate than YouTube. At least YouTube sensations are chosen by the public (dumb as that public may sometimes be), and not by nepotism.

  34. Ron says:

Hey, Nepotism Miley, shut the f*ck up. if you Dad wasn’t a star already, you would have been one of the two trailer park girls running round the outside.

  35. LadyBert62 says:

This girl is on her way to “pudgey-ville” as she looks like she has gained a lot of weight recently. Am I wrong here?

  36. serena says:

She’s a little too chubby nowadays. However that’s not what disturbs me. She became famous firstly because she was Billy Ray Cyrus’s daughter. and that’s it. Now, shouldn’t it be harder to be an artist?
It isn’t. And look at reality, it’s not fair but well.. almost none made it fair and square. She has no right to be that judgy.

  37. 123isme says:

Wait, she *is* aware that she has just as little singing talent as Bieber and Black, is only famous because she’s related to some one hit wonder hillbilly from the 80’s, right?

  38. beany says:

oh please, if it’s not because of her famous dad, she’s just an ugly crazy troll.

  39. Katie says:

She clearly has no appreciation for how she became “an artist.” She had a famous father…that is half the battle. And since she would rather be told she sings like crap than lipsync, I will take this moment to say that she sings like crap. She has very little range.

It gets really irritating how many celebrities have convinced themselves they got where they based solely on talent. Just admit you had connections, like a famous family member, that helped! Is it that hard?

  40. Snowpea says:

    Rewrite:
“It should be harder to be an artist. You shouldn’t just be able to put a song on YouTube and go out on tour. You should be born into the business and then buy your way to the top, daggumit!”

  41. Bella Luna says:

If these struggling artists who are trying to break into the music business “the right way” think that they are good enough then maybe they should put out a Youtube video? It sounds about right to me and I dont feel its selling out at all. If you are good enough, you will get the exposure you are seeking.

  42. anne_000 says:

so millions of ppl enjoying someone’s talents on youtube and then getting a recording contract cuz execs liked them as well VS millions of ppl watching a tv show cuz disney execs know ur last name is famous cuz ur dad is famous, & he had done a hit show previously, and he was even on ur show to help u out is different, right? uh ok.

also, if all it took to be an artist is working in show biz for yrs, then that’s a pathetic definition of “artist” since there’s now so many so-so and untalented ppl who’ve been in show biz for years as well whether on shows, in movies, magazines, and/or have recording contracts. many are there only cuz of their physical attributes or their famous name helped jump start them off into celebrity-hood *cough miley cough*. AND being famous doesnt make one a better or greater singer or actor, obviously.

the idea that 18 yr old miley thinks she can rag on others for not being an artist like she thinks she is is just a joke to real artists. wait til she actually does something that nobody else can do – like barbra streisand, judy garland, billy holiday, jennifer holiday, etc. – then she’ll be an artist. she’s not been special like that. she’s about on par as a glee cast member. they’re as talented as her & they could have done her job, but i dont think any of them had a famous daddy who helped them get her own tv show.

if she keeps going on about how she’s a real artist compared to others, then it’s going to be even more embarassing when one of these youtube celebs should start winning grammys and tonys and she hasnt.

  43. Liana says:

there are plenty of musicians who have paid their dues and still have vids up on youtube. It is what it is. Just because you launch on youtube doesn’t make you star, but it also doesn’t mean you’re not. My husband has more than paid his dues, playing in crap bars and staying in hostels worldwide just to be where he is today… playing in crap bars and staying in crap motels and hotels worldwide. Of course, he’s also a successful studio musician, but still.

Yay for what appears to be permanent moderation for me!

  44. Elfie says:

Not everyone can be famous in YouTube. You gotta have talent or at least charisma. Famous youtubers have said that is hard for them, because they don’t want to let down their fans. They constantly need to come up with something new and likeble to keep their fans entertained.

But there’s also a lot more youtubers that barely get views, and are as talented or more than those on the top.

Maybe is easier because is online and everyone probably will see it. It doesn’t mean they’ll like it.

  45. truetalk says:

    @PhotoJojo, totally agree with u.

  46. Pirouette says:

I could go on YouTube and sing a song and there would only be like 9 hits, all of them from me checking to see how many hits I have.

YouTube is just the medium by which artists project their work. Is she confused?

  47. Clavin says:

Sure, and if becoming a “pop star” was more difficult Miley would be working at a truck stop diner in Tennessee. Another semi-retarded teenager who knows all about everything, swell. Go make some music and quit thrusting your pelvis furiously for the attention you crave, Miley.

  48. Stacia says:

It does not matter how they got their start…if they have real talent it will show through. Not every one has a Dad in the business that can navigate them through the music/show biz world.

Wow cant’ believe she said that. There is no one avenue to get a start in the business, Mr Ed’s sister. heee haw!

  49. baby says:

ya ok miley…just b/c pple use youtube as a venue for promotion, doesn’t make them any less of an artist, and many of them probably work way harder than she does..i think its empowering that you can capture the attention of pple without industry connections like this dumbass..in fact, this is why there are so many famous idiots out there, b/c they’re connections allow them to half ass like she does which exactly why she’s not too successful career-wise after hannah montana. why sh*t on these hardworking creative people miley? hmm? what do you get out of it?? oh right, you’re threatened. just take your giant paychecks and shut the hell up.

  50. Victoria says:

She STILL doesnt get it does she? Well as Thom York from Raido Head said “When Miley grows up, she’ll learn not to have such a sense of entitlement.”

  51. Sloane Wyatt says:

Gosh, I hate to say it, but the entitlement kettle shouldn’t call the youtube pot black. Putting yourself out there on a shoestring for acclaim or criticism IS paying your dues.

  52. Kim says:

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
    Pot calling kettle!

Yes Miley we all agree you should have to have talent but how does that explain your success??

Its to bad she isnt grascious and realizes she hit the jackpot off a bad Disney character.
She is naive to not realize her 15 mins are long over and she will not be a successful pop singer or actress. She was Hanna Montana and thats it.

Hold on to those millions because you wont be making remotely near that ever again.

  53. jane16 says:

Yeah it should be. Like it was for REAL artists like Linda Rondstadt, Bonnie Raitt, the Wilson sisters, and Stevie Nicks. Starting out with a REAL band that play REAL instruments and beginning their careers singing in a succession of ever bigger REAL clubs. Writing their OWN songs. Wearing their OWN clothes, putting on their OWN makeup and having their OWN hair. Unlike todays current crop of plasticized, fake, no talent, no singing voice young stars who are packaged by Disney or Nick for stardom becuz they may be cute and have parents in influential places. I can’t believe how fake and tedious modern music is. Canned computerized muzak. Altered in the studio voices, and lip syncing concerts. No thanks. Not for me and my family.

  54. jane16 says:

Sloan, your comment is hilarious. Love that “entitlement kettle calling the youtube pot black”!

Moderator, can you please fish my comment out? Thanks!

  55. mscandy says:

I can see what everyone saying but let’s be real here- There are some youtubers who has no talent and they are consider talent…. On that aspect Youtube should not be the only means of becoming an artist… It could be part of the reason but not the sole reason…

  56. Kazza says:

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen her intentionally guest in a music video of a YouTube “star,” too.

  57. sasa says:

    @mscandy
Being a celebrity means having an audience. It has nothing to do with talent. That’s why all the reality shows work. So for deciding who should be a celebrity YT works perfectly.

It’s amazing how wide our scope of what we want to see became (and the amount of shit we, as a public, tolerate). When they literally rub it into our faces with shows like AI, X factor, we are fascinated by the “novelty” of the idea that you actually have to have talent.

  58. Liana says:

There are some youtubers who has no talent and they are consider talent

    * * * * *

And there’s Miley Cyrus who really doesn’t have as much talent as she seems to think she does.

  59. mscandy says:

    @sasa –
I agree but what I am saying is that shouldn’t be the only reason or the only way….

    @Liana:
U made me laugh on that note….

Bottom line: Alot of them don’t put in the work so they think that youtubing is all they have to do get signed by a label-

    @jane16:
    I double agree

  60. BeckyR says:

Lots of “stars” got a leg up because of family connections/influence: Michael Douglas, Angelica Houston, David Schwimmer, Jennifer Anniston,Carrie Fisher,…could go on and on. Whether it is You Tube or family connections, if you don’t deliver the goods, nobody buys. Miley doesn’t know what she is talking about.

  61. Cali says:

    Dear Miley,

You speak and act as if you REALLY have me.

    Not Yours,

    Talent

  62. St Louis Mami says:

Um…pot, let me introduce you to my friend kettle…smh

  63. curmudgeon says:

Recently read comments from Jack Nicholson’s daughter (the next wave of celebrity spawn) She actually said that having a famous father opened doors for her. God that’s all we’re asking. Some honesty. Some grace. Did any of these kids get a decent upbringing? This little pug faced snot is just BEYOND ridiculous

  64. Sassy says:

I haven’t read all of the blogger comments w/regards to this article about Miley…but has anyone thought of this: Maybe Miley is plain jealous of the fact that she had to “suffer through” playing Hannah Montana..a role that was “child-like,” and created for CHILDREN to watch. I glean from the article that maybe Miley IS BITTER that she was contractually-obligated w/Hannah Montana series for probably what she considers too long, and she “acted” more child-like and innocent than she obviously was? Does she think she had to “suffer,” and “endure” that role (WHICH MADE HER A HOUSEHOLD NAME), & she maybe considers/equates her work on Hannah Montana the price she had to pay in order to be known, rose to fame….so that THEN she could go on to do work (perform on the stage like a TROLLOP) that she considers…..ART?! This is what I take from the article.

If this is the case…and Miley considers what she’s doing now, “art”…then yes…I agree w/Kaiser…I feel sorry for the gal.

  65. Sloane Wyatt says:

    hahaha, Cali!

  66. Jane says:

She said it should be harder. How much harder? How long should someone struggle before they start to make a living as an “artist”? What venue is acceptable to Miss Miley?

If someone’s career is kick started on YouTube which results in people paying money to download a song or go see a live performance, then what difference does it make as long as the paying public feel they got their money’s worth.

  67. ashleighlauren says:

This is a wonderful example of that whole “born on third base and thought she hit a triple” mentality. I think that Miley genuinely believes that she has worked really hard to get where she is. And the thing is, she probably has worked really hard. I can’t imagine it’s easy to be on a popular television show, especially for Disney. That’s a lot of hours of her childhood just gone. However, that hard work hasn’t gotten her where she is, that’s completely a function of her daddy.

  68. wunderkindt says:

In that top pic, Miley could pass for a Clinton family member.

  69. Apple says:

Life is grand when you are Queen of the tweens.

Now life isn’t so grand when you have competition and are being pushed to the side of life becuase your fans are growing up and doing the walk of shame to the sidewalk garbage can to throw out your CDs and posters.

    Good luck beaver face.

  70. Phoenix says:

i find this kind of hard coming from Miley, who was given a job because her Dad was in the business. Saying that, she lost her childhood from a TV show and is probably surrounded by people who just want money from. She has worked hard. Honestly though, I don’t see a problem with youtube stars- hate on Justin Bieber all you want but he’s got a pretty decent voice which young girls were attracted to when they saw it on youtube. This is how things work now, you can reach millions of people and show them your talent. You don’t need to perform to small audiences and audition for years on end to get your name out there.

  71. Confuzzle says:

    Dear Destiny Disneybot,

    really? 😆 Really?

    😆

Wow next you’ll claim your music is the greatest that was ever written 😆

  72. MourningTheDeathofMusic says:

The words she said are very much true.

The fact of who she is and how she came to be makes her a giant hypocrite.

  73. Heatherrr says:

Wow. This is way too easy!

  74. Flan says:

She looks like trash, but the British kind for some weird reason.

That people get their start like that is great, because it removes power from CD producers, who ruled supreme until about 12 years ago.

  75. Dani says:

How ironic coming from someone who had nepotism open the door for them and whose talent is mediocre at best. One shouldn’t begrudge someone using what is at hand to break into the business. Isn’t that what you did too Miley?

  76. bitca says:

“stupidity, the level of snottiness, the level of bitchiness, the level of trashiness… ”

Um, isn’t that sort of a neat capsule definition of the species Adolescent Female Typicaliis? Tends to peak @16 (ok, at least that was my own banner year) but can take a few years to level off & fade 😉

Granted I would only listen to her sing or view one of her movies @gunpoint, but can see why you’ve no huge issue w/her in the main: most off-stage behavior you describe seems no worse than most girls that age—& under the circumstances she sounds fairly together. Even the pseudo-pot video is just silly. Or would be, if it wasn’t obvious a supposed ‘friend’ was leading her on (now THAT was classic high-level Teen Bitch-Trashery).

  77. benny says:

“stupidity, the level of snottiness, the level of bitchiness, the level of trashiness . . . ”

You forgot to add “racist” to the list.

  78. LittleDeadGirl says:

Actually apart from the random vapid youtube star I rather like youtube for some of the “stars” it’s going to produce. I’m not talking about the teen singing sensations but there are comedians out there who use the program to launch their career, I myself have a few I follow, and they’ve been at it for years. It allows people that don’t have connections like Miley to possibly reach a broader audience without the cash to do so …

  79. Venus says:

Another bad side of Miley’s character is that she doesn’t recognize irony. This is the funniest headline I’ve read all day.

  80. lisa says:

Wow she is being call pudgy and if she was thin then people would be calling her anorexic. Women no matter how young can’t win. And we wonder why young girls are getting eating disorders and hurting themselves. The posters here are I’m sure mainly adults. She is a young woman talking the way the young talk. And the truth is her career is much greater then her father’s.

and regarding nepotism.. I got my first job because my mother knew the head of the company I wanted to work at. My father got jobs for my brothers and cousins. I helped my niece get a job.. That is the way of the world. Most of the people I know got their jobs because they knew someone or a family member made a recommendation.

I bet we are all guilty of that crime; and if they made it illegal the majority of the world would be locked up.

She is young and thinks she knows more then she does. Some of what she said is true. Why it is discounted because she said it is silly.

  81. Juu says:

God, she is so stupid. I have no words.

  82. Whatever says:

Yeah, Miley it should be harder, especially for girls with little talent who get jobs on Disney thanks to Daddy. Way annoying, I totally agree!

  83. munchies says:

there are many people in Youtube that are way more talented than her and deserve more recognition.

She is a product of PR, not by her talent.

    She is sooo INSECURE.

  84. GQ says:

Miley is an expert on having zero talent and building a career solely on hype… When will this boring, talentless wreck be done with her 15 minutes of Fame?!

  85. skeptical says:

and ofc having a daddy open the door for you and send you onstage and create all those record deals and TV deals and mastermind your “hard climb” is much more demanding.

oh wait… others have already spotted nepotism chick’s blunder.

This gives me a happy 😀

  86. Tara says:

Miley is a hypocrite and completely irrelevant these days. She was in JUSTIN BIEBER”S movie for crying out loud – dressed like a streetwalker and acting way too provocative with him for someone their respective ages. I took my 9 year old niece to see the movie and I was embarassed. So Miley is considered to be a friend of Bieber’s it seems from the press and now she says this about him and celebrities like him…she’s a sad girl.

People may gain exposure through youtube but if they’re not really talented they soon fade away. This is so much better than Disney and Walmart shoving fake singers down our throats.

One last thing – Bieber is dating none other than Selena Gomez – the hispanic beauty who stole a lot of Miley’s thunder last year. Hmmm….

Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black?

  88. Hakura says:

Youtube has both positive & negative effects, just like anything else. The positive being that people who are truly talented, & would never have gotten the chance to be heard otherwise, get attention. It’s also a built in trial, showing potential record labels that the person can connect with an audience, thus bring in business in a professional arena. (The negative being that some obnoxious talentless morons gain enough attention to become maddenly stupid fads.

That aside, Miley (in her lovely glass house) shouldn’t casting stones, unless she wants them thrown back. She wasn’t out on the street corners with guitars trying to be ‘discovered’ like many. Her daddy got her the gig.

  89. ordinarygirl86 says:

Great comment coming from someone who isn’t really an artist herself!

Fuck, I can’t believe Miley is making me defend Bieber…(deep breaths) As crappy as some Bieber’s songs are even I can admit that he’s got a good voice for which Miley does not at all (hello autotune). Some of those Youtube artists are truly talented musicians who deserve a record deal more then she does.

  90. jemshoes says:

    Pot calling kettle black!

  91. shadowme says:

Wow she really thinks she is an artist? Now that is scary. Dont think she will have to wait long till they call her singing crap in Oz they tend to be pretty honest. Her singing isn’t that great anyway she just has had a huge PR machine called Disney behind and a father who had a very annoying number one song some years ago. In a couple of years she will performing at some truck stop somewhere or having the next generation of Cyrus to live off. Miley you can’t act, can’t sing and you have the lips of a trout please leave your very simple thoughts to yourself!

  92. Catherine says:

At this point she just needs to shut up.

  93. Mindy says:

    Oh Pot meet KEttle…

  94. embertine says:

    *BOOM*

Oh crap, there goes another irony meter. I am just running through them these days.

  95. Anise says:

Yeah, man. You should have to start out totally unknown — like, only with famous parents.

  96. nesstastic says:

I think if you are talented and you happened to get discovered through youtube then big f**ken whoop. Kudos to those who use every means available to them to get recognized for their talents

  97. Jayna says:

LOL Most real artists feel she is just part of a commercial machine herself, spit out by Disney, and irked that she sold so many albums with so little talent.

Bieber was discovered on youtube, but he has been worked with and groomed. He’s worked hard and has a huge teen base, same as she did.

I agree with her on lipsynching. But I’m sure Bieber sings many of his songs live, too.

The Journey band’s new lead singer from the Philipines was discovered via YouTube. And he’s an unbelievable singer (I saw them live and was blown away), and if it wasn’t for Youtube he would still be struggling. He’s a rarity. The first year with Journey he started a charity for street children of the Phillipines, when most people would be squandering their first big pay checks. What is Miley doing with her millions?

  98. honeyv says:

Well, well, look who’s talking. It seems like she doesn’t like people who become famous because of YouTube, but she loves the fact that she is a celebrity because of her celebrity dad. Which is worst, if you ask me. Like all of you said, she should stfu, I don’t even know people who likes her or likes her anymore.
By the way, she is UGLY!

  99. Macey says:

    THAT is too funny!
Miley doesnt have an ounce of talent and would never been heard of if it wasnt for her one hit wonder dad.
Im not into Justin Beiber or that Rebecca but Im glad YouTube is giving some ppl a a chance to be heard that wouldnt normally have had the opportunity to put their talent out there, like those with famous dads have (coughMileycough).

  100. Bailey says:

Miley, Oh please, get over yourself!
    Nepotizing Beotch!

  101. lmp says:

    haters!

Hannah Montana is a great show, not something anyone can pull it off easily. Her character is really 3-dimensional and her comic timing is perfect.

Her dad was famous for on country song and a mullet. That’s it. Some Disney executive created the show, she got the part, and her dad even had to audition. Sounds to be she went through the steps as any other Disney kid.

  102. lmp says:

P.S. See you again is a great song, so it party in the USA. (she’s a teenager, what else would she sing?)

  103. The Bobster says:

The manufactured star daughter of a manufactured star is now complaining about manufactured stars? Oh STFU, Kazoo McPanface.

  104. SassyOne says:

Oh, shit. What a big baby. You tube is one way for people -without proximity to the music industry or the means/connections to be successful in it- to have exposure and receive some interest from said industry. After all, when one gets a lot of you tube hits, one then becomes a marketable commodity. It’s simply another way of opening the same door. Beiber continued to be marketable. From what I understand about the other teen, she’s a (?)talentless flash in the pan.

And to be clear, IMO, Justin Beiber’s star needs to fall soon , and I’ve never listened to the other reviled one.

  105. original kate says:

“It should be harder to be an artist. You shouldn’t just be able to put a song on YouTube and go out on tour”

she should thank god it isn’t harder, otherwise she’d be serving blizzard at a dairy queen somewhere in tennessee.

  106. Katija says:

She’s not pretty, she’s not that talented, she talks like she has a mouth full of horseradish, and she’s only famous because of her father.

  107. Jessipalooza says:

So…even if a person has talent, they shouldn’t be a star if their discovered because of a video they put up on youtube? But riding on your dad’s mullet-train to success is “working hard”? I can’t describe how much I’m over this girl. I really wish she would just go away. I’m sick of her snotty attitude and her rude, air-headed comments.

  108. Izzy says:

You shouldn’t be able to have a TV show and go out on tour just cause your father is kinda famous and told you that you are an “artist”. ¬_¬
