Taylor Swift in a pale yellow Elie Saab prom dress: boring, tedious or cute?

wenn3280833

Last night was the Academy of Country Music Awards. Miranda Lambert, Brad Paisley and Lady Antebellum were some of the big winners last night – you can read Radar’s summary of the winners here. Taylor Swift took home the Entertainer of the Year Award. Of course! Did she do her patented “Oh golly, gee whiz, this is SO UNEXPECTED!!” face?

So… these are photos of Taylor Swift last night. Her gown is Elie Saab, and it looks exactly like every other sparkly, glittery, neutral gown she’s ever worn (note: in some photos the dress reads as yellow, but it’s so pale it’s basically beige – especially on her). This chick is in desperate need of some new style. Less “Mall Girl Going To Prom” and more “Sophisticated Country Artist With A Stylist.” Seriously, if I wasn’t for the note on these photos identifying the date, I would have thought that these were photos from one of Swifty’s other many red carpet appearances wearing something glittery and neutral.

And her hair! Ugh. I imagine her curls are natural, right? And she’s probably a natural blonde, or dirty-blonde. Just change up the style a little bit, Swifty. Wear a sleek bun, or tease your curls up to look more “rock star”. Change something, please.

    Too vanilla.

  2. Zombie Nurse says:

That look is doing her no favors. The dress doesn’t seem to fit right and her make-up reads “upscale drag queen”.

  3. The_Porscha says:

I don’t think she’ll change until one of her people tells her she has to. This is the look she’s known for. Just like her lyrical content/value – it won’t change til people stop encouraging that. So… I guess we still have a few more albums worth of her singing about unicorns and rainbows and the occasional playground heartbreak. Someone’s gotta do it.

  4. Quest says:

    Very predictable and boring

  5. malachais says:

I think she looks fine. I like that she hasn’t changed herself with stardom, but I can understand people get bored with the same style.

  6. Lenn says:

man, is she stuck in a hairstyle! Almost to the point that it’s bad for her career.

  7. Jackson says:

Eh, dress isn’t too bad. That hair, though. Ugh. She needs some brighter blond highlights in there – it’s too dull and flat now. And please, either make more curls in your hair, or make it straight. Those two, big, twisty curls need to go back to the 1970s…or wherever they came from.

  8. Marjalane says:

I’m on board with “upscale drag queen”.

We watched bits and pieces of the show and I swear half the women there had on “Barbie” inspired dresses. That pink thing Miranda Lambert had on, (at one point) came right out of Toys R Us.

  9. Hakura says:

Snooze-fest. Everything she wears looks exactly the same. Same styles/colors, same hairstyle/color, same EXACT makeup.

BORING. She’s missing a huge opportunity to appeal to a wider audience, & promote herself. I spent more attention writing this comment than I did looking at her outfit.

  10. Wicked SteppMom says:

Yes, she is sort of blah, but truly I’m perfectly fine with that b/c my 6 y/o thinks she’s beautiful. I like knowing that if I want to show my daughter a picture of Taylor Swift, she’s not going to be all skanked out, like half the freakin’ Disney “role models”!! I actually find it kind of refreshing that Taylor doesn’t feel a need to wear things that are super-tight, super-short, or are going to leave her in danger of having a boob pop out. That said, a little color wouldn’t kill her!

  11. TXCinderella says:

I think it’s a pretty dress, but I wish she owould wear something with color. She always looks so washed out with these pastel colors she favors.

  12. Rita says:

I don’t care for the color but otherwise she looks very nice in it.

  13. searching4grace says:

I like the detailing on the dress. Tired of her hair. Tired of her music. I grew up on Alanis Morissette, Metallica, Tori Amos. Music you can get your teeth into. It’s great that 6 year old kids love Taylor Swift, and if she’s going to play to that demographic, go for it. Just stop pretending you’re trying to cater to adults at the same time.

  14. Hein says:

    Hate the hair.

  15. kelbear says:

When she was walking up to accept the award I saw the back of her hair and it looked like crap. It looked like wavy hair from just getting out of bed.

  16. Kaye1 says:

The dress would be gorgeous in a deeper color. The details get lost in all the blah-ness of the yellow.

  17. Melanie says:

i get that taylor might be trying to put out a certain image out there and it might be fake, but i dont think that she should try and totally change who she is. what’s wrong with being natural? if she likes that sstyle then leave her alone. your comments are kinda harsh kaiser..

  18. sasa says:

I’m not a fan. Incredibly boring.

  19. JustBe says:

I think that the dress itself is pretty. But, I think that the style of the dress would work much better on a more voluptuous figure.

Taylor needs to choose dress styles that complement vs. highlight her thin frame.

I won’t even comment on the hair.

I don’t think that anyone should alter who they are because they attain wealth and fame, but I would think that being wealthy and young would allow a woman to experiment with a variety of styles and looks. It seems like she’s got a set of handlers that allow her to choose from a selected set of clothes, makeup and hairstyles (where your curls loose or tied back) and that’s it.

  20. EdithP says:

That dress would look phenomenal on Halle Berry.

  21. Az says:

EVERYTHING about Taylor Swift is tedious!

  22. serena says:

Nah those curls aren’t natural at all.

  23. Mae East says:

She looks beautiful, without question. It’s just frustrating that her body is built to show off clothes and she wears the same styles time and again. She could wear anything!

  24. TeeTee says:

hate the same ole ugly hairstyle and I hate the color of her dress and the smug dumb same look on her face.

  25. TAYLOR! DON’T, do you hear me? DON’T change!!! STAY THE SAME!!!!!! because no one needs another hot star in the business for our bfs to drool at their pix. please, stay mousey. thanks.

  26. LadyBert62 says:

I kinda like the dress except for that train – certainly increases the personal space around her since people have to stand outside the perimeter of that train. Also her hair is not naturally curly – I have seen photos of her with it straight which I like 100% better than the curls – and does she have extensions? I dont recall it being that long – cant wait for the extension craze to be over as it looks ridiculous on most people over the age of 16 (in my opinion of course!)

  27. orion70 says:

She looks much better with straight hair imo.

These curls look just like the ones my mother used to put in my (very straight) hair with those pink sponge rollers. Doesn’t look like something a professional stylist would do.

  28. Ally says:

Her agent should set her up on a date with Ryan Reynolds.

It’ll be the perfect union of chipmunk face and gerbil face.

  29. Myra says:

Aren’t these awards supposed to be a little fun, like how the Grammys are supposed to be? I don’t get why so many of the women wore gowns. I like Taylor Swift’s dress, but it doesn’t seem like a good fit for this ceremony.

And I agree, she looks way better with straight hair. She should cut her hair and wear it straight.

  30. jover says:

Agree searching4grace – hey, lets add sabbath, pearl jam, g & r, run dmc, etc. – it’s stunning how far she has gotten on endless pr/marketing given how limp and lame she and her “music” are – the good thing is that her use by date is fast approaching given her meager talents and that her people have had to market her to a small demographic btw I just watched on youtube sabbath playing to tens of thousands at the california 1974 jam – cannot imagine little swifty even coming close to that type of venue.

  31. Jess says:

Kaiser, I agree – please just change SOMETHING, Swiftie!

  32. searching4grace says:

@Jover Love those bands! I remember rocking out to Welcome to the Jungle. Windows down, everyone screaming, hot summer day. Yep. I would never do that with Taylor Swift. Everything sounds the same, and it’s always about her being a victim of something. blah blah blah

  33. Juu says:

I don’t know much about her, but she has the right figure for this outfit. The dress is lovely!

  34. Ron says:

So boring and I just hate her hair, she needs some highlights or something.

  35. That gown is fabulous

  36. lucy2 says:

I actually really like the gown itself, but the color is too washed out on her.

  37. Emily says:

    Boring as beige shit.

I don’t get it, when you’re young you’re supposed to be experimenting, and having fun with different colours and styles and makeup… This bitch will be wearing beige sparkles and the exact same hair at every awards show until she dies. Ugh.

  38. Laura says:

I think the dress is beautiful, but I wish it was more colorful.

  39. Newbie says:

I actually LOVE that dress. But I’d like it better on a hanger than on her. She and Hayden Panty-whatever are the only little blonde “starlets” that drive me up the wall. I see them, hear them or read their names and I can’t help but gag. For the love of heaven, I wish they would retire.

  40. Hakura says:

@Searching4Grace“Tired of her music. I grew up on Alanis Morissette, Metallica, Tori Amos. Music you can get your teeth into.”

To be fair, those are some tough acts to follow xD But I agree. There’s so little ‘real’ music being made these days… I miss the 90’s.

I *do* think Taylor herself is very pretty. It’s just her wardrobe that needs some spiffing up. But I don’t mean in a sleazy way. Just… more dramatic, trying new things.

A lot of people will look forward to seeing celebrities at events, just to see what they’re wearing. I guarentee no one is particularly interested in Taylor’s, because it never changes. We the public have short attention spans xD There’s simply too many other things going on for us to focus on her for no reason.
