Carrie Underwood, Brooklyn Decker & more fashion from the ACM Awards

This is just another fashion post for the Academy of Country Music Awards – I already covered the two biggest “names” at the show, Nicole Kidman and Taylor Swift. I wasn’t going to do detailed coverage on some of the “lesser” country acts, just because I’m not a country music person and I don’t pay attention to it, but as I was looking through the photos, I was overcome by how badly these women dress. Maybe that’s the wrong word though – I’ve always felt that country music fashion is way more prom-y and “Southern” obviously. Big hair is acceptable and necessary. Glittery, sequined, beaded pastels are in vogue, forever and always. So… by those standards, how did these ladies do? Above, we have Carrie Underwood in a lovely jewel-toned alice + Olivia dress. I like the color on her quite a bit, but all of the glittery stuff at the waist makes the whole thing look cheap. And I would have liked to see her do something different with her hair.

Next: Julianne Hough in this orange monstrosity. I think she was trying to match it to her skin?

Brooklyn Decker’s boobs were there for some reason. I actually like the Victoria Beckham dress – I appreciate minimalism and a sleek sheath on a young woman. That being said, she needed to go up one size and have it tailored to her body, because this is too tight in the bust. I can make out every detail of her bust. Also: I’m disliking the haircut, but it will look cute when it grows out a little.

Jennifer Nettles in this sleek black number. I’m including Jennifer because I LOVE her. I think she’s adorable and so, so pretty. This is an interesting choice for her, and I like that she wore something rather sleek to a country music show.

Sara Evans. She looks like she works at a fancy Ho-Jos.

I like the idea of Miranda Lambert’s gown much more than the execution. Her boobs look great, the hair is cute, and white is a nice color for her (although she looks very bridal). I think my problem is with the metallic waist/belt thing – it makes her look “thicker” than she really is.

Martina McBride had a similar problem with her waist/belt too. I don’t like this gown on her at all, though.

Carrie Underwood looks awful. That dress does NOTHING for her, and I despise that hairdo–I’m really tired of the ‘wings with long curls’ hairstyles. And she’s a pretty girl, this just isn’t her outfit.

Of course, none of the other women seem to know how to dress, either — nobody looks that good, and they are all attractive women.

  2. brin says:

    Jennifer looks the best, imo.
Love Carrie but hate her dress…looks cheap.

  3. Marjalane says:

    Barbie dresses, all of them.

  4. malachais says:

I love Miranda’s dress. Most of her dresses tend to fit weird, but this one looks great. Glad to see Carrie stopped wearing ridiculous hair extensions.

  5. Rita says:

Yeah, none of the fashions worked for me but I love these country gals. What I find most gratifying is Carrie Underwood.

Little Miss Perfect appears to be settling into married life as she’s put on a few pounds. Look at her arms. Sure, she has the perfect smile, twinkling life filled eyes, the hair is always styled, she’s a killer entertainer just at the begining of her career with 13 NO. one hits, and she loves her husband. However, now she’s putting on some weight and we all know what that leads to: a more inviting tush, bigger boobs as she becomes a voluptuous woman and her legs will always be sensuous but….but….I HATE CARRIE UNDERWOOD!!

  6. kelbear says:

I love the pink dress Miranda was wearing during the show.

  7. Vickyb says:

Ugh – these are all rubbish. Both Carrie and Julianne’s dresses look like both girls need to be three or four inches longer in the torso – it looks like both dresses have slid down their fronts. I normally love VB’s dresses but Brooklyn’s makes it look like she’s pregnant – that panel over her stomach makes it look like maternity wear. Jennifer looks like she’s wearing slippers, the less said about Sara’s the better (I’m English, so I didn’t get the Howard Johnson’s reference, but before I Googled it I was genuinely thinking ‘she looks like a hotel receptionist that moonlights as a hooker and didn’t have time to completely get changed’!!) I don’t think this dress does anything for Miranda’s boobs, which are good, but the dress needs to be tailored better under the arm, which would harness them better. And the belt is terrible. Finally, Martine – terrible hemming.

Normally, I’m a much nicer person 🙁 I must be in a grump.

I think Carrie Underwood’s dress looked better in motion. It didn’t photograph too well. You should check out her performance with Steven Tyler last night, it was pretty epic. Epic in a good way with great singing/performing and a funny way. I was totally entertained.

I totally agree that Brooklyn Decker just needed a slightly looser fit for this look to be perfection. Martina McBride’s belt looks too high and prevents the statuesque look this kind of dress needs.

I don’t mind where Miranda’s belt is but her dress bunches up awkwardly. I think she purposely went for white because her wedding’s in 5 weeks. Miranda’s makeup is terrific.

@Rita Love your comments. I agree with you, it seems like Carrie’s put on a little love weight and it looks great on her.

Miranda Lambert’s gown is doing a strange side boob baggage thing that is really sort of unforgivable in a dress that I am sure was uber expensive.

Carrie Underwood’s dress seems to have a strange lumpy pocket under the hip armour on her right side.

Jennifer Nettles seams look cheap and lumpy.

    Brooklyn Decker – perfect.

Julianne Moore’s dress – the color is awesome – the cut – not so much.

  10. tapioca says:

Brooklyn Decker looks a lot older than 22/23 with that hair and the outfit’s fine, but how amazing would someone like Halle Berry have looked in that dress?

  11. Amanda says:

I would kill to have Brooklyn Decker’s body! *sigh* She seemed to have missed the memo about sequins, though. Julianne Hough looks terrible– and I usually find her SO incredibly cute. The bottom of her dress has something really weird going on. Also, love Martina Mcbride and think she looks great until you get to the hem of her dress. It’s too short and it looks like the hem’s sewing is effed up. Carrie Underwood is just…boring.

  12. devilgirl says:

I think I am one of the only people on earth who finds Brooklyn Decker not that attractive.

  13. Stubbylove says:

What is up with these country singer gals? They are all so damn gorgeous and have the worst damn taste – ever!! It just keeps getting trashier, tackier and just plain BLECK. In each one, something screws it up from the hair to the shoes to the cut, color – holy crap. And WTF is Brooklyn Decker and her areolas doing there?

  14. OtherChris says:

Miranda Lambert has the prettiest face. I don’t even hate the gown, but she has such a cute shape she could have done better.

I’m sick of Carrie Underwood. She looks like a sorority girl from a state college 10 years after graduation and she always wears 2 pounds of makeup. I wonder what she looks like without it.

  15. Rita says:

Not that anyone cares but I wanted to say Celine Dion was the most beautiful woman at the ACM’s and can she rock a dress or what?

  16. Victoire says:

I like only Brooklyn D. look.

  17. Lizzyxo says:

All of them changed, because I watched the awards and saw none of these dresses. Miranda was in a cute hot pink number for, like everything. Taylor is in the same dress, but it looked really yellow on TV. Carried did a few changes, one awesome green gown that was fantastic. Jennifer Nettles ended the show in a purple high waisted pants thing and a black tank that really looked nice until you saw the red/pink shoes…

  18. TXCinderella says:

I didn’t like any of the dresses and I’m with devilgirl, I don’t think Brooklyn Decker is worth all the hype. Her dress was too small and boring. She should have added some dangly earrings and a blingy bracelet.

  19. Hakura says:

@DevilGirl“I think I am one of the only people on earth who finds Brooklyn Decker not that attractive.”

You’re a member of a minority, perhaps, but not the ONLY one who finds her ‘not that attractive’. I just don’t see it, either.

Miranda Lambert would’ve looked incredible if not for that horrible ‘rhinestone cumberbund’ around her midsection. Very bad choice. I also like Carrie’s dress *color* on her, but I agree that the dress itself wasn’t ‘amazing’ on her.

  20. Ron says:

Celine Dion looked amazing. Nicole Kidman and Brooklyn Decker looked great. All the country girls look like they pick their dresses off the racks in Santee Alley in the garment district. Miranda Lamberts preformance dress looked great, the baby doll thing she wore looked so off the rack cheap. Truly hideous and it didn’t fit well, she was yanking it up all night. These big stars need to go to the designers and have them build strapless dresses for them so they aren;t tugging on them all night.

  21. lucy2 says:

I don’t care for any of these. I like the purple color of Carrie’s but agree all the glitter junk makes it look cheap.

  22. ordinarygirl86 says:

Why is it that when these women prepare for the ACM Awards they seem to pick out either the tackiest, brightly colored, poufy, or most lowcut concoction they can find?! UGH all of them seem overdressed to me
