Jake Gyllenhaal the brunt of “gay joke” at the ACM Awards

wenn5631691

Some of you hate when I say that Jake Gyllenhaal seems a tad gay. Some of you agree with me. I honestly don’t know if he is, or whether he just has a really bad team around, giving him really bad advice about how to conduct his personal life. I do know that because of his brief relationship with, and then sudden dismissal of Taylor Swift, the “gay rumors” surrounding Jake have gotten even stronger. Many of us just thought the whole Swifty-Jake deal was “off”. Swifty might have been a beard. Or she might have just been a young woman who acts like a young girl who honestly got her heart broken by Jake’s older man. Maybe she got with Jake, maybe she didn’t (because it’s icky!). I do know that Swifty has been coming across as rather predatory post-Jake, especially after she accosted him at the post-Oscar Vanity Fair party – in my opinion, Swifty still has feelings for or about Jake, and she’s not over it.

So… this is weird. At last night’s ACM Awards, the hosts gently joked Taylor Swift, who was in the audience. And then… they made a Jake-is-gay joke. Hmm…

Uh, ha ha? Jake Gyllenhaal was the brunt of a gay-themed joke at the beginning of Sunday’s Academy of Country Music Awards in Las Vegas. As co-hosts Blake Shelton and Reba McEntire delivered their opening monologue, the night’s big honoree Taylor Swift came up.

“Don’t make jokes about Taylor Swift,” McEntire warned. “If you make her mad, she’ll write a song about you. She writes songs about guys who break up with her.”

(It’s true. Swift, 21, has reportedly penned ditties about Joe Jonas, John Mayer and others.)

“Which I don’t understand in the first place. She’s beautiful, she’s talented, she’s sweet. What in the world was Jake Gyllenhaal thinking anyway?”

Shelton’s retort: “Wait a minute, he was in Brokeback Mountain.” The country-music crowd laughed and cheered wildly at the joke, a reference to Gyllenhaal’s Oscar-nominated performance as a gay cowboy opposite Heath Ledger. (Gyllenhaal, 30, and Swift broke up over New Year’s after a whirlwind couple months together.)

Also mocked: LeAnn Rimes. After McEntire happily mentioned that Carrie Underwood’s hockey player husband Mike Fisher was traded to Nashville’s Predators, Shelton cracked, “You know who else traded husbands this year? LeAnn Rimes.” (Rimes, of course, is now engaged to Eddie Cibrian, with whom she had an affair while they were both still married to other people.)

[From Us Weekly]

So, Jake is gay because of A) Brokeback Mountain and B) Because he dumped Swifty? I think a bigger sign that he might be gay was the fact that he actually “dated” her, not broke up with her. But Swifty is the darling of the country music industry… certainly the hosts wouldn’t have made the joke if Swifty hadn’t given her direct or indirect approval? So is this Swifty’s new thing? She’ll not only write songs about the guys who dumped her, she’ll also make sure they get “outed”? That’s not the way to handle it, Swifty!

Here’s Swifty’s performance last night. I’m just going to say it and y’all can hate me or whatever, but Swifty has a major case of Crazy Eyes.

Funny how they made fun of Leann Rimes, anyone know if she was there?

  2. Stef says:

    Her hair color is ghastly.

  3. Nanz says:

Wildly inappropriate joke. Way to go ACM. Gay jokes are so 1985.

Also, Swifty needs a new ‘do.

  4. brin says:

@malachais…no, she wasn’t there. She was home with her “loves”….Eddie and her iphone.

  5. Ellie says:

Well my question is what is a 30 something dating a very immature 21 year old? That just seems creepy to me. Plus, Jake does nothing for me. ICK! Never has. Can’t stand Taylor and good I’m glad they got made fun of.

  6. Myra says:

Yeah, that’s a bad joke. Why even go there, really?

I started to think that maybe Jake’s asexual. Whatever he is, their relationship definitely came off strange.

I thought that maybe the reason Taylor Swift was pissed was that she was an unwilling beard, but maybe it’s just that he ended the arrangement unexpectedly after the public fallout. Or, maybe it’s both. It was all very strange and he made a huge mistake because she seems ridiculously immature. She’s probably not going to let this go until he outs himself so she can milk even more sympathy.

  7. coexxi says:

I don’t know and don’t care if JG is gay. But I think as long as people use being gay as a diss, gays will not be so open about it. Eg: “this is so gay” as a negativ comment. Something similar also happens to women. Eg: “don’t be such a girl”. As if it is a bad thing to be a girl…..
    pfffff

    *stepsofsoapbox*

  8. environ says:

At SXSW everyone I talked to said that Jake was the nicest celebrity ever. The guys from Reel Newz could not stop talking about how professional and kind he was. Jake wowed Austin and everyone there was singing his praises.

I think that if Jake was actually gay he’d be out about it.

  9. Juliette says:

@malachais: April 4th, 2011 at 1:04 pm Funny how they made fun of Leann Rimes, anyone know if she was there?
    _______________________

I was wondering the same thing. Would love to have seen her face when they made that joke.

She didn’t need to show up. What has she done this year other than 1 very mediocre song?

She’s more famous for being a psycho these days than for any talent. Glad she didn’t come. It didn’t need to turn into the LR/EC dog and pony show.

Miranda Lambert looked gorgeous last night as did Carrie Underwood. Two beautiful women with talent and class. How refreshing.

  10. Ari says:

“He has to be gay to break up with her [like she is so great].” What-ever. If he is, all my BB fantasies will be fulfilled. If he isn’t, smart move breaking up with that kid because even at her age she is still living in candy cane land.

  11. mln76 says:

Well there’s nothing like a homophobic joke about a 7 year old movie to get people laughing right? I don’t care if Jakey is gay and yeah the Taylor debacle made me believe it’s very possible but jokes like that make understand why he stays in the closet.

  12. Abby says:

Swifty is like my little sister. I don’t see any crazy eyes, and I actually liked that performance.

I think she needs to tread a fine line on the dating front cause she’s heading towards coming across like a crazy ex girlfriend… She’ll never get a date with her history of doing this to guys!

  13. devilgirl says:

Oh ha ha! If you are going to bother with the gay jokes, at least do it a la Ricky Gervais. The whole thing sounds lame.

  14. Amea says:

@steph, that’s all I can think about when I see her. Same tired hair and same tired hair style. She could go for some Rihanna red….something, anything to make her look like she has a pulse

  15. Franny says:

Yeah, that joke was completely inappropriate. How about we joke and say Swifty is a loose little tart because she switches boyfriends like she switches her underwear? That wouldn’t be funny.

It’s just not right to laugh about sexual orientation.

  16. normades says:

The gay joke was lame (even if true), but the Rimes joke was pretty funny.

  17. Myra says:

Coexxi…yeah I’m with you. This is the kind of joke you make when you think being called homosexual is actually an insult and that being homosexual is somehow bad. I hate when guys are called gay for not being interested in a certain girl.

  18. Rex says:

    Toothy Tile.

  19. Rita says:

Was the joke directed at Taylor or Jake? I see some people didn’t care for the Broke Back Mountain innuendo. So let’s talk sexual orientation political correctness or incorrectness (PC or PIC).

Apparently, it’s PIC to insinuate that a person is in the closet because that’s where we keep things we don’t want people to see, bad things i.e., monsters as a child, mom’s collection of sex toys (box on top shelf, upper right), or stripper poles used only on dad’s birthday, and such. However, if we read in People that someone is gay then its PC to take pride in applauding what came out of the closet. There’s little speculation that females are in the “closet” (separate closets, obviously) but is being a “beard” PIC? Maybe we can talk bi-sexuality tomorrow (No doubt the caveats in that discussion will bring little clarity to PC).

I can understand where someone would think the joke was unneccessary but it was nothing more than we’ve read from Kaiser dozens of times.

  20. Violet says:

That joke was so pathetic. However I do get a gay vibe from Jake and for what it’s worth I see swifty as an unknowning pawn. Jake and his publicist saw a young woman who might be a bit lovesick and naive and exploits it until she makes it clear she wants a relationship and so they let her go. Jakes publicists would rather he had a player image like mayer than have people think he’s gay.

  21. MrsOdie2 says:

Are we supposed to simultaneously champion equality for gays and laugh at them for being gay? The same people who called these actors brave and talented for portraying gay lovers in the film are now snickering at the one who’s still alive? I know the audience for the country music awards are a bunch of rednecks, but what a bunch of HYPOCRITES! It’s sickening. Because he dumped the prom queen? Please.

  22. truetalk says:

any guy with soft eyes in hollywood is labelled gay.
taylor needs to let it go already,it’s getting tiring

  23. mln76 says:

I think I am more offended by where it was said then the actual stupid joke itself. The Country Music Industry isn’t exactly open and welcoming to the gay community.

  24. Delta Juliet says:

I couldn’t care less if Jake is gay, straight, or anything in between. I am concerned about Taylor’s apparent stalker tendencies though. They dated for what, 2 months? Get the F over it for crying out loud!

  25. TQB says:

You stay classy, country music fans…

  26. flutters says:

@Rita I see what you’re saying but Kaiser’s jokes seem a lot less mean spirited than Blake’s was JMO. And a lot funnier. I mean how overdone is the stupid Brokeback Mountain joke?

    Here’s how I see it:

-Ricky Gervais makes joke about gay Scientologists: didn’t name names, targeted people known to try to “cure” homosexuality, spoken to audience known to be socially liberal, timely because of Carrie Fisher comments, cleverly constructed, equal opportunity offender = funny even if I shouldn’t laugh

-Blake Shelton makes Jake Gyllenhaal Brokeback Mountain joke: names name, targets guy known to be gay-friendly, carried to TV/live audience that isn’t known to be gay-friendly, the breakup was 4 months ago so not timely, spoken to one sided audience where it was clearly not OK to be Team Jake, lame joke that’s been around for years = mean-spirited, not funny

-Kaiser or Michael K cracking jokes about Jake wanting to do stereotypically gay things: usually very clever jokes, not judgmental of homosexuality, on a gossip blog where it’s understood that not everything you read is true, equal opportunity offenders, timely because they react to new news and the right context = funny, it’s OK to laugh

  27. Yasmine says:

@min76: so true. It’s the context, rather than just the joke, that bugs me. Ugghhhh…
And did she write this song for JG? If so, pretty pathetic!

  28. Marjalane says:

I’m kind of surprised that Reba would go for that kind of garbage; Not so for Blake Shelton- he’s an ass. He’s the type of jackass that assumes if he makes fun of gays, no one will ever dare assume he’s “one of them fancy boys”. Too bad they didn’t make a joke about how Swifty gets dumped by everyone who’s ever dated her.

  29. Gal says:

Bad and wrong joke! Taylor is just upset that she pimped her short-term relationship with Jake and then it ended. I’m sure she gave approval for the tasteless joke – she needs to grow up. It makes me sick that people assume that Jake is gay because he was in Brokeback Mountain. Heath Ledger was also in that movie. They were PLAYING A PART – that’s what actors do. Do the stupid people also assume that someone is a murderer if they portray one in a movie? I don’t care if he is gay, but being in Brokeback does not mean he’s gay.I also agree with Coexxi – the labeling is innappropriate – it’s not a bad thing to be gay.

  30. Rita says:

    @flutters

Yeah, it all comes down to our sensitivity on the subject. You might be interested to know that Blake supported country singer Chely Wright when she came out as a lesbian. Honestly, I don’t think Blake gives a dam about the subject. He’s known as a very honest person who speaks his mind and doesn’t care what people think. My personal opinion is that the joke was a tease to Taylor. Looking forward to the day when we all, straight and gay, can just find unoffensive humor in such things….like Swedish jokes (Sven and Oly, I’m Swedish and Norwegian…but I don’t like to admit it because you know how they are lol).

  31. coexxi says:

@flutters: yeah… that’s similar to how I feel about gay-jokes. I’m not per se against them, it is just most of the time it is meant as an insult and not as a joke. Same with jokes about Jews, women or some minorities. It is the context and the deliverer that makes them often so mean-spirited and not funny. Esp. when they are used to re-enforce stereotypes.

  32. Quest says:

Honestly if you believe this theory about being gay once you dated Swifty or acted a gay role, then the following persons are also gay:

    -Joe Jonas
    -John douchebag Mayer
    -Taylor Launter
    -Toby Hemingway

And if acting a gay role makes you gay, then the following persons would also be so:

-Dec’d Heath Ledger (totally was not gay)
    -Jake Gyllenhaal
    -Russell Crowe
    -Sean Penn
    -Tracey Morgan
    -Al Pacino

Can’t classify someone based on a movie nor their personal hookups. The context was used as an insult more than a joke.

  33. have you heard this Taylor Swift song where she goes “So go and tell your friends that I’m obsessive and crazy//
That’s fine I’ll tell mine that you’re gay!” – she’s probably just a lady of her word or something? (isn’t it plain rude of the hosts anyway? and they hated Gervais. Gervais was f-cking polite compared to this)

  34. Mia says:

Disappointed in Reba for agreeing to do the joke. Very homophobic and unnecessary. Could have left it at there being a breakup song in Jake’s future, but to reference Brokeback Mountain was wrong.

  35. EbonyShiksa says:

I’m of the opinion that she did sanction the joke. Not once did the camera go to her during the duration of that joke. And the only time that’s done is when there are specific instructions to NOT do that. Cause trust me, they knew where she was sitting.

  36. JenJen says:

I passed on watching it but if Leann was there, I bet she was gloating at the fact that her sleezebag was already referred to as her husband.

As far as Taylor, she seems like she is too clingy, moves too fast and acts desperate with these guys, it doesn’t make them gay.

  37. Mary Jane says:

What the hell is wrong with Swifty’s eyes? That squinty-look is sooooo annoying!

  38. DGO says:

I don’t like the Jake joke – poor taste and certainly not something one should joke about.

The LeAnn Rimes joke was funny, however. And to those who are asking, NO, she was not there. If you can believe it, Squinty Stalker flew back for one day to spy on Eddie while he was with his kids. Not enough she’s stalking him on the Playboy set, now she has to stalk him at home.

  39. ctkat1 says:

It’s country music- not exactly known for being the most progressive when it comes to LGBT support.

I personally don’t think that Jake G. is gay, mainly because years ago (we’re talking 2003-ish) my brother came across he and Kirsten Dunst in a very private moment. My bro is a musician who plays backup for some semi-famous people, and he was at an event at a hotel in LA. He went looking for some air and heading down a back staircase, where he encountered the couple- they were wrapped around each other, staring into each other’s eyes, hidden away in a back staircase- it wasn’t for the paparazzi or for show.

I theorize that the major reason that Jake has been plagued with gay rumors is A) he was the “woman” in the relationship in Brokeback Mountain, thus more “effeminate”, and B) Ted Casablancas has spent years writing about “Toothy Tile”- there’s never been a shred of proof that this person exists, is Jake, etc.

  40. Harley says:

Jake doesn’t ping my gaydar – but even if he did, who cares? Still love him. Saw him on Conan last week and he was completely charming. What I don’t get is that, as others have pointed out, they were together for what? like two months? and broke up four months ago and she is still harping on it? She strikes me as incredibly immature and stalker-y. How many songs hads she written about exes?

And I agree that she needs to change her look. It’s getting stale.

  41. Caity says:

Taylor never sounds that good live…wondering if there is some lip syncing going on there?

  42. louise says:

I really doubt that the producers were begging Taylor to use that joke or Taylor begged them to bash Jake. That seems a little too devious for Taylor. Writing and interviews are her style. I’m not a musician but is Taylor playing the banjo correctly? I’ve never seen anybody play it like a guitar before. It looks really odd.

  43. Sassy says:

Well…here’s my 2 cents…1stly…I think Taylor Swift puts the Ugh in ugly. Look @ that last pic Kaiser put in of her…what’s pretty about that face? Asymetrical..has jowls, crappy hairstyle, squinty eyes (& Swifty, btw…putting fake eyelashes on your squinty eyes doesn’t make them look any better).

Anyway, NO…NEVER a good idea to gay-bash @ someone else’s expense. Unless Jake has “come out himself,” WHY in the WORLD would anyone want to even intimate such a thing? Also, another blogger aptly pointed out that as long as there is a stigma attached to being gay, it makes ANYONE who is gay LESS than optimistic for wanting to bravely step forward & admit such….shameful!

I’m a heterosexual female, but regardless, it’s DISGUSTING to cast such doubt as to someone’s sexuality unless they are completely sure. I don’t mean our discussions here…but rather on such a public forum such as CMA Awards. Shame on CMA & SHAME ON TAYLOR. I think she’s a spiteful/revengeful little s–t whenever something doesn’t go her way.

  44. Ell says:

I liked that performance, the song suits her voice. One thing’s for sure, she knows how to write a decent pop/country song.

I think Jake and Taylor come across as both decent people, a lot of what is being said about their relationship is assumption and made-up dribble.

  45. sasa says:

God what a lame joke. When you try to make a funny out of a great movie you’d better come up with something smarter than “he’s gay”.

  46. fallen says:

These types of ‘jokes’ that were made are probably the reason why people don’t want to come out, not that knowing their orientation is any of the public’s business.

  47. Turquoise Blue says:

I think Jake probably is bisexual (he really seemed to have a thing with Kirsten Dunst) but very scared to come out because of his need to be seen as a leading man. And it wouldn’t surprise me at all if he was Toothy Tile. But this joke was unnecessary and stupid. Flutters broke it down really well. In a show for a country audience, you know there are going to be a lot of homophobic people there, so any comments about gay people are mean-spirited.

I’d be willing to bet Taylor was in on the joke. She is pretty immature and considering that one song she has (‘so go and tell your friends that I’m obsessive and crazy – that’s fine, I’ll tell mine that you’re gay’) and her penchant for cheap revenge, this isn’t out of line for her.

  48. Laurie says:

Saturday Night Live made quite a few gay jokes this past weekend. Why are they not being criticized in the same way?

  49. Angb says:

Think it was a PR relationship and he realized early on HELL NO! and now she’s p!ssed. Very unprofessional to make that joke.

  50. wunderkindt says:

    @sasa

If someone wants ‘smart’ then the
Hee Haw music awards show isnt the place to find it!

Inbreeding doesnt seem to bestow great comic talent.

  51. Feebee says:

It’s not the bad joke so much as the place it came from. I don’t think it came from a good place. And just to tap into another stereotype, look at the audience it was played to.

Why are the hosts of one of country music’s biggest nights stooping to jokes about a 21 yr old’s breakup? Let alone bothering with LeAnn Rimes. Writers have landed on hard, hard times obviously.

  52. sorrento says:

real grown up and mature y’all

  53. I Choose Me says:

@CTKAY1. Thanks for the dish. I loved him and Kirsten together. I also don’t believe that Jake is gay (or maybe he’s bi who knows?) because of a video clip I saw of him at a private party on another website a couple of years ago. He was dancing with a blonde (he seems to really like blondes) and then they were chatting in a corner and he was totally flirting as well as not so subtly checking out her rack. The vid was grainy like it was taken by a cellphone so it’s not like he knew he was being filmed.

  54. devilgirl says:

LOL@ the hypocrisy here. Because people from COUNTRY music make a joke, it is all kinds if wrong, but anyone else doing it gets a pass.

    *eyeroll*

  55. bharing says:

Making comments like country music is just full of bigots and homophopics is being just as judgemental and prejudice. Tons of other sites have comments such as Reba and her red wig and plastic surgery. You are no better then them. In fact you are worse for lowering yourselfs to slinging accusations and negative comments about Reba “plastic surgery”. Enough is enough, how do we expect to advance the cause for homosexuality when our own community is full of bigots.
Why not focus on Darius Rucker and his song of acceptance then a simple joke

  56. susan says:

Why would Reba do that? It’s so tacky…so not funny & utterly boring. I think Taylor is off looking and def has crazy eyes. To me Jake just seems dull.

  57. Ron says:

You know how it is, a guy simply must be gay if he doesn’t want to be with Horsey Swift.

  58. Rita says:

    @bharing

Darius Rucker?? You must be mistaken. He’s that guy from Hootie and the Blow Fish. He’s black (*said in whisper with eyes shifting left and right*). Country music will never accept a black musician.

Hope you know I’m being facetious. There was a time when if a “long hair” walked into a country bar he’d walk out with fewer teeth than when he walked in. Now a black man in the Hootiemester is a well respected performer in country music and several gay people are appreciated by their peers.

It takes time folks and while its important to keep the dialogue going….we’re getting there.

  59. Abby says:

This morning Ted finally notted those Supernatural guys as Dashed Dingle Dream and Judas Jack off. And literally everyone seemed to take it as gospel that it was them. I think it’s the same with Toothy Tile and the whole myth he’s building around Jake. I don’t really know or get a feeling if Jake is gay or bi or straight, I just think maybe everyone is wrong about who Toothy is. And Ted has said a few times that some of the popular guesses are not at all right (those some are).

  60. My Darling Pinkett says:

You know, I used to not mind Taylor. I didn’t care for her music, but I respected that she actually wrote her own songs. Then I found out that she writes about all of her boyfriends and “heartbreaks” and that she’s apparently very, very desperate for love. She’s my age. It annoys me that she’s so woe-is-me over men. She got dumped a few times (I wonder why????). Get over it. You don’t have to tell the public all the dirt and make yourself seem like some poor little victim. I don’t think she knows what heartbreak is.

I think she really started annoying me when she got even more famous after Kanye dissed her. That’s when everyone started talking about her.

And maybe Jake is gay. Who knows? But their reasoning is ridiculous. But I hate country music, anyway, so I’m bias.

  61. Palestinian says:

Like many people mentioned, that was a dumb joke and only reinforces the stigma that’s attached to homosexuality.

  62. Cheyenne says:

Why do people have to make gay jokes about anybody? It’s wrong no matter who does it, not to mention tiresome as hell.

  63. Bella says:

Swift isn’t a “little girl” anymore. She’s 21. Is it creepy that Jake dated her… it happens all the time… younger woman older man. Was it creepy when Demi started dating Ashton? He was in his early 20’s wasn’t he?

I’m not a fan of either, but for them to make a “gay” joke was just ignorant.

    Period!

  64. sandy says:

the joke was inappropriate and tasteless, Jake is just a nice guy and a great actor, as for Taylor, it’s already been said.

  65. Elizabeth says:

    @ amea
I so agree with you and Steph. I have been thinking for awhile that this girl needs to do something with her hair and make-up (’80’s hair, too much heavy make-up around the eyes). Time to look like a star, Taylor, and not a mall rat!

  66. Amy says:

Ugh Taylor is just a catty, b!tchy girl. I can understand writing songs about heartbreak but it gets old when that becomes your shtick, especially when the whole world is aware of who you’re dating and you know millions of people are going to listen to your songs and rightly guess which song is about what ex. It is such a petty way to get back at someone.

  67. Nik Nak says:

Something is wrong with this girl. She is really evil and vindictive.

  68. Emily says:

I’m more offended but the complete lack of hilarity in that joke than the subject of it. And I’d totally believe Swift had a part in/approved that joke. Bitch needs to grow up and stop playing the victim everytime she gets dumped.

  69. gabs says:

“Making comments like country music is just full of bigots and homophopics is being just as judgemental and prejudice.”

EXACTLY. So true. Whoever wrote the joke is an idiot, that doesnt mean all those people are homophobic and taylor probably didnt know about the joke at all.

Anyways, I gotta say, she has gotten A LOT better with performances. I liked that song “mean” and she was on pitch. shocked! I bet she practiced a lot after that grammy disaster

  70. GradStudentEatingHotPockets says:

New life plan- I’m quitting grad school and becoming a professional tambourine player. I will not be eating hot pockets anymore!

  71. Rita says:

    @Gradstudent

May the force be with you.

  72. HotLatino says:

I wish Jake was gay so I could have a chance, he’s so hot and that Taylor is disgusting looking, I can’t stand her! A sweetheart? NOT!

  73. LBeees says:

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I have a THING for Jake now after watching Prince of Persia.

He doesn’t “seem” gay, but who knows. It’s not like we all walk around with signs saying gay straight or bi. At any rate, “gay jokes” are stupid and offensive.

Also are the generalizations about the country crowd… come on people, not everyone who is into country is a redneck, woman-beating homophobe. Give me a break!

  74. Jaquebelle says:

There is something about Jake Gyllenhaal that seems really likeable. He seems to conduct himself in a manner that is opposite the Lindsay Lohans and Charlie Sheens in show business. Ultimately, whom he chooses to sleep w/ is a matter of supreme indifference. On the other hand, there is a victim quality about Taylor Swift which annoys me and I don’t think she is particularly talented in her genre.

Gay men play “straight” roles all the time. Far too many to mention. Why can’t a straight guy portray a gay character on screen w/out being subject to sophomoric gay jokes that borderline on being homophobic. One love.

  75. allseeingI says:

she is another product of the no-talent generation. what a waste of computer edit time. i shudder to think what comes after her…

  76. Catherine says:

Not funny. I would think celebrities would be above making gay jokes in such a forum, but I guess not.

  77. Crash2GO2 says:

@Rita: I think your point of view is spot on. Until we can joke freely about such subjects, they are still ‘in the closet’ so to speak.

Loved the joke about Leann Rimes. I checked her twitter to see how she was taking it, and it’s not good. She’s posting vanity photos of herself in the bathroom.

Ah, another dee-lightful ode straight from Taylor Swift’s Lisa Frank diary. To whomever above that said she could write a good country song-NO. Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn, Pam Tillis, etc., they wrote good country songs. This is utter crap for the masses.

  79. lucy2 says:

    Tasteless joke.
I like Jake a lot, I too saw him on Conan recently and he seemed like a great guy, very funny and down to earth. As far as I know, the only source of the gay stuff is Ted C’s Toothy Tile – which has never been confirmed and is probably false, but who knows, and who cares?
I think Taylor seems immature and a little silly, but I hardly think she’s evil or anything.

  80. Amanda G says:

Wow, that is the first time I have ever heard Taylor sound country. It was actually a tolerable performance aside from the lame lyrics, flat voice and her hideous hair.

As for the “joke.” I don’t mind un-PC jokes because comedy isn’t for the easily insulted, but that joke was bad and 6 years too late.

  81. sammib says:

Yuk. Yuk to the poor taste, homophobic, non joke. Yuk to Taylor Swift who is one of those homely girls that they have to paint a new face on and then get their PR/Management team to try real hard to make us believe they are attractive. And am I the only one to notice her weird botox brow????

  82. Djen says:

Are all her songs about how she’s been wronged in some way? I don’t follow her, but it seems like every time one of her songs comes across my field of vision, she’s whining about something. It may just be a coincidence, though, which is why I’m asking…

  83. OriginalGracie says:

    @Flutters: Nicely done. ITA.

PLUS…isn’t it mean and unnecessary to make fun of someone like Jake who never does anything mean or inappropriate to anyone? It seems to me that Jake is just living his life, gay or straight.

It seems cruel and very mean to publicly mock him like that. And it’s never cool or classy to be homophobic in public.

And besides, are we to infer that there are NO gay country music singers??

  84. Brittney says:

It was a lame joke, and it didn’t really have anything to do with his sexuality past that of a character.

But come on, guys. Jake = Toothy Tile! Doesn’t get much gayer than that. I just hope he can come out sometime in his life.

  85. Zelda says:

That is so offensive and we all know why: unfunniness.

Unfunny jokes are an issue close to my heart, as they should be to all people who care about comedy. Bad puns, weak punchlines, and–as painfully shown above–outdated cultural references ruin the lives, families, and good times of English-speakers everywhere. They overrun awards shows, make movie trailers suck, and embarrass everyone at weddings. 7 out of every 8 jokes told this year will be unfunny. And yet seemingly, no one wants to speak out. We even titter through them, so as not to be rude. We allow men like Bruce Villanch to make money, and men like Dane Cook to get laid.

This madness must end. If not for yourself, do it for the children growing up thinking “Two and a Half Men” has jokes in it. Ask yourself: what kind of world will people like this be capable of running? With every ACM Brokeback joke told, we are one joke closer to Jessica Simpson’s lifetime achievement Oscar. And that, my fellow audience members, is a world we won’t be smiling in.

    Unfunniness: It’s no laughing matter.

  86. Nicky says:

“But come on, guys. Jake = Toothy Tile! Doesn’t get much gayer than that. I just hope he can come out sometime in his life.”

@Brittney, you think Jake is gay? fine no problem with that but please don’t say you came to that conclusion based on Ted Casablanca of all people?!! His blind items are pure BS, total fan fiction. If you’re being serious then you need to remove that hook Ted’s used to reel you in with.

  87. Emily says:

I know not everyone likes Jake, but for me,he stays classy after very broke-up.I never hear any negative comment from him about his ex girlfriends, even though some people think all his relationship is showmance.
    And I don’t get it,why Jake ??
Taylor Swift, you have tons of ex boyfriends to diss.Reese, you are already married(and he is so grown-up, your dream man), what else do you want?
    Just give Jake a break.
After seeing source code, I think Jake is a really good actor.I am happy he redeemed himself from Prince of Persia.

  88. poodlemom says:

Thanks for posting her performance…because I missed it live. All I can say is…that I think it was her best live performance EVER! I loved the fact that she was playing banjo…and I loved the musicians and singers on-stage with her. She sang the song very well…and there was no lip-syncing! Maybe she isn’t everyone’s cup of tea…but I think she is wonderful. She just needs to find a nice boyfriend who is not in show business!

  89. SassyOne says:

    Okay, nice things:

Lipstick color was terrific for her, in fact, make-up was quite good.

Loved the herringbone braid (but the rest was a mess).

I generally do not like her, but thought she sounded pretty good here.

    Weird things:

Not so sure about the crazy eyes, but she def seemed like she was feeling some lyrics in that song, which begs the question: who the flip was it directed at, wow.

Was she playing that banjo at all? I know there was a mandolin playing the melody, but it didn’t look like the frets were changed at all when the chords did. (I hate banjos)

    Get some freakin layers, T.

    Weird lyrics.

  90. ordinarygirl86 says:

How is it that the media likes to imply celebrities like Rihanna, Sienna Miller, and Scarjo are sluts that get around when Taylor has gone through numerous men within the past couple years and is still considered a sugary sweet innocent angelic girl?! It’s just an image b/c Swifty gets around!!

Her rumored/confirmed conquests are: Joe Jonas, Taylor Lautner, that Glee kid, John Mayer, Jake G, the other Glee kid…
And that’s just off the top of my head!!!

Btw that joke was SO offensive not only to Jake but to the gay community as a whole. You KNOW they cleared that joke with her b/c she is one of their biggest young stars.

  91. My Darling Pinkett says:

@ordinarygirl86 You’re so right about Swifty. I don’t see her as little miss innocent because she obviously isn’t, but the media still seems to have this image of her despite all of her “boyfriends”. Ew! I still say she and the media are making her out to be the victimized angel. But I think this is starting to fade. People are finally seeing her for what she really is.

  92. Stupid Assumptions!!! says:

#90 ordinarygirl86 If you think sitting next to a boy is a relationship, you have issues. You know Taylor could just be friends with some of these so called “boyfriends” you think she has had. Taylor confirmed last week in an interview she did in England that she is single. She also stated that she likes being around her FRIENDS and she isn’t going allow tabloids to dictate her life. She basically said some of her friends are boys that she has never dated. She and Cory Monteith have both confirmed that they are just FRIENDS and she and Chord Overstreet are just friends. Chord even said on Ellen that he was single after he was spotted with Taylor. There has never been any confirmation about Taylor dating these two boys. The tabloids see her and immediately began taking pictures and promoting a relationship that isn’t there in the first place. Besides Taylor is a pretty clean celeb. She isn’t out dancing drunk in a club and doing drugs. She is basically the anti rehab celeb. Before you began making your assumptions, you should get your facts straight.
By the way, whoever had wrote this should have done their own research. I highly doubt Taylor had anything to do with this joke. Blake Shelton has a very very crude sense of humor and could care less about what he says or who he offends. He even said to the media this week that he would be making fun of Taylor. His own fiance was worried about what he would say on stage because she knew how crude he could be. She was just glad he didn’t cuss.

  93. Kim says:

Why lately does Taylor date gay guys twice her age? John and Jake? She seems naive about guys.

  94. nicole says:

The song is not about Jake people. It’s about a music writer/reviewer who wrote crap about her.

  95. ordinarygirl86 says:

    @ Stupid Assumptions!!!

Well as I stated in my post it’s a list of some rumored and some confirmed, the main point is that this girl is pure Image! I’d respect her a hell of alot more if she’d drop the ‘innocent angel’ act that she’s currently working where she whines about the guys who’ve done her wrong! It’s makes her look immature and silly.

You are naive if you think that Taylor wasn’t given a heads up on what type of jokes would be made about her or her ex. The ACM Awards are her playground, she’s one of the most important/popular country stars around and they would NEVER risk pissing her off if they didn’t have the go ahead from her! Please…

I didn’t say the girl was Satan’s spawn so chill.

  96. star says:

tastless and very lame jokes ! for jake and for LeAnn too! i dont know jake but at least i can say leAnn wasnt offended by it so nothn to worry i guess ! but personally i didnt like it at all!

  97. Chris says:

An earlier post said “Gay jokes are 1985”.

Remember, it is country music, which is predominately Southern, and the South tends to be behind when it comes to progress.

But they are more like 1995 or so. Getting a little better.

  98. Lee says:

You never hear of any rumors about Jake’s sexuality until he plays a gay sheep herder in a very popular movie. He’s had some long term romances with a couple of women, K Dunst and
R Witherspoon that if someone wanted to “out” him, they certainly could have. What I find silly is that a man has to either try to prove he’s heterosexual and hope that the lies will someday go away so they don’t impact what movie roles he has available. As much as society and Hollywood has come with gay rights, actors still know that very few openly gay guys can get roles as leading men or in romance stories. Taylor Swift has a 6 or 7 week “romance” with a much older guy. I’m not sure why anyone is still talking about it let alone joking about it. If she was serious about him, it was a poor joke to bring up about her, and a poorer joke to bring up about him.
But what is worse is that he has to continually put water on a fire in order to continue on in his career. He’s mentioned in a few recent interviews that people continue to come up to him and tell him how they didn’t like Brokeback because of the theme, or the kissing or the moral issues some have with nature of the film. It was a very good movie…but it was a movie, not a documentary of theis guy’s life. Why don’t people give it a rest already?

  99. Bell Curve says:

“It’s just not right to laugh about sexual orientation.”

Why? Jokes should get made about everything. I reject your political correctness.

  100. floridagirl says:

I read on CMT that she did lip-sync and this is why it sounded so in pitch. You can tell neither Taylor or her violin are actually playing their instrument! I also believe she knew about the joke and this is one of the reasons why Jake broke up with her because of her need to put everything she does in the news(its always a “close friend” who leaks the news….right)This is a cute song though, nice dress but it needs to be a different color, her hair, her dress and her skin are all the same color! At least she skipped the red lipstick!
