Kate Middleton refuses to wear a wedding tiara, wants flowers in her hair

wenn3291324

Finally, an article about something I care about! Us Weekly managed to identify the designer for Kate Middleton’s navy suit, the one Waity wore for “her last public appearance as a single woman.” As I said, I liked the suit, and now I know it was made by British designer Amanda Wakeley. My only real complaint is that the material (cotton sateen?) wrinkles too easily.

No short skirts and flirty dresses for the future Queen of England. Kate Middleton suited up in a tailored Amanda Wakeley navy number during her Monday outing with Prince William in Blackburn, Lancashire.

“I think she looks fantastic,” designer Wakeley told Grazia magazine of the royal-to-be’s look, which is from a past season. “I love the fact that the color of the suit echoes the deep sapphire of her engagement ring.”

Despite the rainshowers, Middleton, 29, and Prince William, 28, spent the day visiting the Darwen Aldridge Community Academy and Witton Country Park, where they were greeted by crowds of well-wishers. This marked their final public jaunt together before their April 29th wedding day.

Eyes from all around the world will be glued to television sets as the princess-to-be walks down the Westminster Abbey aisle, debuting her much-anticipated bridal gown.

Designer Wakeley is among the million curious to find out which designer is behind the wedding dress of the century. “Whoever is designing it is incredibly lucky,” she added to Grazia.

[From Us Weekly]

Feel better? Just me? Okay then. Anyway, I wanted to use more photos from Kate and William’s public outing on Monday because this hair style is how Kate is ALLEGEDLY going to wear her hair for the wedding. HuffPo calls it “half-up, half-down” which doesn’t sound like a real “style” but sure. I like her hair like this. But it gets even more exciting! According to The Mail, which is the tabloid with sources deep in the Middleton camp, Waity and Camilla are engaged in a Battle Royale over many of the wedding details, and the latest fight is over Kate’s hair and whether or not she’s going to wear a tiara. Camilla is apparently “desperate” to force Kate to wear one of the royal tiaras for the wedding, but Kate wants to wear… GASP… flowers in her hair!!!! How quaint!

UPDATE: Oh, Waity was just “confirmed”. She is now officially a member of the Church of England.

By the way, is anyone excited for the exquisite cheesefest of Lifetime’s William & Kate movie? It’s coming on next Monday, I think, and I cannot wait!

Yay! Wedding news! LOVE the suit. She looks stunning in blue. Whatever she has been doing for wedding prep – diet, working out, daily facials with placentas – it’s WORKING.

But I cannot abide this flower business. NO TIARA?? Come on! Why do we have princesses if they aren’t going to wear tiaras? What’s the ever loving point??? BOOOO.

    I hate agreeing with Camilla.

  2. Elj says:

    She’s so purty.

  3. oh, I bet their romance was nothing like this movie. but the movie looks good, actually.

  4. sharylmj says:

she should wear one!!! it’s tradition!!
Plus have you seen the choices???
    OMG!!!!

  5. Quest says:

Flowers: carries meaning based on the type of flower used in the hair for a wedding. This is a relatively old tradition and each flower has different meanings.

Tiaras are a more religious symbols for loss of the bride’s innocence into womanhood in most cultures.

Considering Katie may have lost her innocence a while ago maybe this is why she is opting for the flowers (lol), then is she also wearing white?

  6. mln76 says:

I knew they would do a TV movie I remember the original Diana & Charles one with the girl from Dynasty way back when.

  7. j says:

I really dont like that Kaiser ALWAYS needs to call her Waity – I get it, she acted like freak for years to get William, but she is no longer Waiting, is she now?

Anyway, I am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt and wait to see what the following years bring.

I like that she is thinking for herself, and not just blindly doing what she is told. If she wants flowers, she can wear whatever she wants. Good for her!

  8. Rita says:

Please no tiara. It will spoil her “relatable persona”. Commoners don’t wear tiara’s and it would be like Goopy’s cheese…..”I am better than you but you must love me because we have so much in common.”

  9. TQB says:

@sharylmj – HAVE NOT SEEN, where can I find them? Need Crown Porn, please!!!

  10. LindaR says:

Oh please. This is just going to get worse and worse. I would bet my house that Camilla is not offering any opinion on what Kate should wear. And there is no way anyone besides the designer and immediate family and friends that knows what Kate will be wearing on her head or anywhere else and none of them will be saying anything to anyone. And finally, has anyone besides me noticed that the quotes from sources, in the rags that call themselves magazines, always sound the same. It’s because they aren’t quoting anybody. They are making it up. For those of you that just don’t get that, give your head a shake.

  11. e says:

Ok I think she is a nice looking girl but I wish those shoes had a skinnier heel. I can’t wear heels at all (bad feet) so she may have picked these because she had to do a good bit of walking and they are more stable? My second complaint is that she has a naturally cute face and that sharp eyeliner that goes all the way around is too harsh…it ages her. She would look better with a softer look. I like her suit; it is a little more interesting than some of her other pics. I can’t imagine what she must go through in picking her clothes. She can’t please everyone.

    • Gen says:

I agree, the eyeliner all the way around is totally unneccesary and definitely ages her.

  12. K says:

She does look pretty here, but she looks old for her age.

  13. N says:

    Posted twice, sorry!

  14. Lala11_7 says:

I could understand not wanting to wear a tiara that was worn by one of the Royals in the past…just due to their history…I mean, in the past 200 years is there ANY woman who had a reasonably happy life…(okay, maybe the Queen’s Mum…but that’s IT!!)

    My advice to Kate…

    “Do YOU Boo”…

  15. N says:

It seems the more weight she loses, the older she appears. If I were her, I think I would have stopped five pounds ago. Then again, if I were her, I wouldn’t have waited nine years for a man to decide if he wanted to marry me (even if the man in question was Diana’s son).

  16. brin says:

I would do the opposite of what Camilla wants too!
    *Hi Rita!*

  17. PrettyTarheel says:

I found this list of the royal jewel collection. not sure if she has her pick, but wowzers, professor! I want that emerald tiara.
    http://www.royalcollection.org.uk/microsites/dressfortheoccasion/object.asp?exhibs=BPSO2006jewellery&item=1

I worked in a bridal store for years, and we would wear big tiaras on Saturdays for fun (I thought it was fun, anyways). However, when it came time to get married, I did exactly what I planned never to do: loose updo, low fingertip veil with tons of beading, and no tiara, and I’ve never regretted it.

  18. TXCinderella says:

I love the suit, it’s very cute. She should have added a pop of color, perhaps with her shoes or her clutch.

  19. BW says:

    1. Queen Victoria wore flowers in her hair at her wedding, and she was already THE queen, and a queen regnant (ruling) not a queen consort (wife of king).

    2. Since Camilla didn’t really want to marry Charles for the longest time, I doubt she even enjoys wearing tiaras, and probably hasn’t said a word to Catherine about them, except maybe, “They give you a headache.”

    3. Anyone can wear tiaras. They’re just a piece of jewelry. Actual crowns and coronets are another story. Those can only be worn by the aristocrazy (sic).

  20. Neve says:

maybe she could find a super chic way to combine both?
she is actually qualified to wear a tiara though- should milk it for all its worth=p

  21. Ell says:

Sounds like make believe to me. Kate’s a conformist, she’s not going to stamp her feet about flowers, I can’t imagine she doesn’t want to wear a tiara.

And I just don’t see Camila caring about such details, she’s not particularly high up in the pecking order either. I doubt she has much say in the wedding arrangements.

  22. Laura says:

I wonder if he actually wants to marry her or if he was at the age where they started pressuring him. If this whole thing is because of pressure it just makes me sad.

  23. Tanya says:

OMG, I was not even aware of the upcoming (and I’m sure to be EPIC) Lifetime cheesefest to end all cheesefests! I’m probably way more excited about it than I should be, but I love that ridiculous crap! Eep! Thanks for the head’s up, Kaiser!

I feel less alone now knowing there are fellow cheese fetishists out there, lol…

  24. PrettyTarheel says:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Queen%27s_Jewels

Wiki link to the personal jewels collection.

I need to get back to work, but sparkles are distracting!

  25. Chickie Baby says:

She’s just darling and they make a lovely couple with a modern relationship. They’ve done everything else in a non-traditional way (living together before marriage, long-term relationship), so if she wants to wear flowers instead of a tiara, let her! It’s her decision for her ensemble and if it makes her man smile, then 800 years of tradition be damned! There will ample opportunity down the road to wear the crown jewels. We should all be so lucky to have the option.

Besides, they should have the wedding they want. It’s bad enough the guest list for the church is over 1000 people…let them make some decisions for themselves, not everyone else.

  26. samihami says:

I think she would look lovely with flowers in her hair. If this is true, I hope she sticks to her guns and does what SHE wants.

  27. kazoo says:

someone explain to me why camilla gets any say. she’s not william’s mother, and she’ll never be queen…

  28. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

    How bout both??

I luv the look, but dont think I could wear one either.

  29. Alix says:

Oh please. If there’s anyone in the royal family who’s not going to offer weddng advice, much less ram it down the bride’s throat, it’s Camilla. Not. Her. Place.

  30. danielle says:

tiaras are pretty! sparkly! hope she wears one! (and this from a girl who completely lacks the bride gene. I think I’d feel like a fool walking down an aisle in a tiara and poofy white dress)

  31. Sam says:

OMG i can’t WAIT for the cheesefest!! i have already warned my husband that when it is on i will be watching it, so no arguments. I just don’t know when they will play it in Canada…
I totally remember the Charles and Diana movie, my Mum’s friend taped it and we used to watch it over and over. Wasn’t there a Fergie and Andrew movie too? god i love the cheese!

  32. MrsKrabapple says:

They’re not aging well – they both look 50 years old.

Oh, and Camilla WILL be queen (consort), whether anybody likes it or not. That title automatically comes with being married to the king. Sorry, but it would literally take an act or Parliament to change it. Get used to it.

  33. Ally says:

Will the flowers be like Duckface’s crown in Four Weddings and a Funeral?
    http://www.fanpop.com/spots/four-weddings-and-a-funeral/images/16794370/title/charles-duckface-photo

Kate is pretty, but I worry that as she ages she’s going to start to look like Princess Anne.

  34. Melanie says:

@ PrettyTarheel: Thanks for that link. I was really suprised by all the aquamarine and broaches. I also thought there would be a lot more crowns.

  35. Mia says:

In the pics, she looks way older than he.

  36. Ron says:

WEAR A TIARA! WEAR A TIARA! WEAR A TIARA! Seriously, how many women in the world, realistically get to wear royal crown jewels on thier wedding day? It’s history! I would wear one the entire week!

  37. Alarmjaguar says:

That’s totally what I did and I loved it! Yay, Kate, I support you, for what that’s worth.

  38. Tanya says:

@Sam: There was TOTALLY a Fergie and Andrew SPECTACULAR! I recall it quite fondly! 😉

  39. spinner says:

I cringe every time you call her Waity.
Just seems wrong. We don’t know the circumstances that have preceded their wedding. I think she is lovely & they make a good-looking couple. Tiara or flowers…will be interesting to see what she decides.

  40. heb says:

yeah she needs to wear a tiara

  41. Bill Hicks is God says:

Fergie wore a tiara covered in flowers because she was entering into royal marriage as a commoner, as is Kate. The flowers were removed after the ceremony before she left the church to reveal the tiara and her new status as a royal.

  42. bluhare says:

If Camilla was telling her to wear a tiara, it’s only because flowers are just so . . . common.

That would be as bad as finding out some middle class climbers were seen looking at your old palace. Oh wait, they were.

Camilla Parker Bowles is a snob of the first order.

  43. Kim says:

Oh man! I would LOVE to wear a REAL tiara! I get that she wants to be herself but she has access to some of the most beautiful jewels in the world. She should take advantage of that. Perhaps she will do what Fergie did and wear flowers over a tiara. I hope so.

  44. The Real Jenny says:

A friend of mine, who knows everything that there is to know about this wedding because she has the royal wedding app on her ipad (really!), says that Kate is wearing flowers on the way in and a tiara on the way out. I think that is a pretty cool way of expressing the transition from commoner to princess, and a good way to keep the in-laws happy, too.

  45. dread pirate cuervo says:

Why would you wait so long to marry a Prince, if you don’t get to wear some of the Crown Jewels at your wedding? I would also request a scepter & maybe a ziplock bag full of diamonds just for shits & giggles.

  46. Sumodo1 says:

I don’t believe any of this! We’ll see on wedding day.

  47. pixiegirl says:

For some reason, this post has made me excited about their upcoming wedding. And love the navy suit! And love that she (allegedly) doesn’t want to wear that stupid baby crown!

  48. endoplasmic_ridiculum says:

Ya – I hate that she’s still being called “Waity Katey” or whatever.

“Foot-dragging” William? (Fine it doesn’t rhyme).. but still, she’s much hotter than he is, she’s stable and seems to be good to him.

He may be a prince but he comes with no hair, tons of baggage, invasion of privacy, a meddling family, heft security and a family with a history of hemopholia.

May he just came to his senses and realised what a catch he has: someone normal who really loves him?

  49. Lou says:

I am sick to God of hearing about this woman. She and her mother are 2 calculating bitches. Why is everyone so in love with her? She is Fake, Fake, Fake. Who cares what she wears on
    her head.

  50. garvels says:

(If this story is true-big IF)-I think since it is a Royal wedding she should show off the crown jewels and wear a tiara but after all it is Kate’s day and if she wants flowers, she should wear flowers. She looks great when she wears her hair back.Love the suit hate the wrinkles.

  51. wunderkindt says:

    She’ll wear the tiara!

  52. JulieM says:

Waity, Waity, Waity. I, for one and probably the only one, will never stop calling her waity. She earned it!

Flowers in, tiara out, that’s what Fergie did. I think that’s exactly what Katie will do. She earned that tiara, too.

  53. Snappyfish says:

I am betting the dress will be Sarah Burton (McQueen) & the tiara will either be the oriental circlet or a tiara gifted from the Queen

  54. Fue McCormick says:

OK … I think I’m right on this one: If Kate does wear flowers in her hair, I bet you anything that after the ceremony, when they go into that little room to sign the certificate or whatever it is they do in there prior to leaving the church after the wedding, I bet she comes out with a Tiara on. This makes sense to me because she will enter the church as a Commoner, but leave a Royal. And this will send every reporter into a frenzy.
    Your thoughts?
PS: I will be wearing a Tiara for the big day … I’m going to go to the 99cent store or Michael’s for the appropriate topper.
PSS: I just realized that a poster above mentioned the Tiara thing on an app. I think the app is linking to my brain.

  55. anon says:

Im not sure I believe any of it. It makes me laugh when those who are complete stangers to any ‘celebrity’ say they either hate or love them. Really? Have you ever spent time with them or know them personally? She didnt ask for this coverage but is probably handling it all the best she can. She’s done nothing reported or otherwise that could be construed as calculating or manipulative or even conspiratory. She nor any of her family have ever sold out the William or his family (or friends) for money and or fame. I wish her the best on the big day and hope they SOME actual private time during it for THEMSELVES.

  56. Meg says:

The photo of Waity pointing her finger looks like she is a 50 yr. old hag. It’s a good thing she has a ton of money because she is going to need it. AND she will definitely be wearing a tiara. She earned it for sure.

  57. kazoo says:

@MrsKrabapple– isn’t the theory that the Queen will choose to skip Charles? that’s what i’ve often heard.

  58. manda says:

is it just me, or does her face look a little wrinkly? maybe she’s too thin? I like her, so this is not to be nasty! just noting it

  59. I see beyond says:

Kate Middleton iritates me. I can believe her mother’s calculated scheme is becoming true.
I hope Carole still enjoys bubblegum, so the DailyMail can have a “SHAME ON HER” article every week.
    ICK.

  60. MaudeLebowski says:

    @kazoo,
That would be really nasty of her. I think she’s quite the bitch anyway for holding the throne for eleventy billion years and never giving anyone else a sit. Selfish cow. Charles will only have it a few years if he gets it soon. She’s had it since she was 19!

  61. kazoo says:

@maudelebowski (love the name, btw), yes i agree! it’s kinda odd…she’s like an aging ceo who refuses to name a successor. LOL

but i definitely remember when it was announced that charles & camilla would marry how all of these “royal watchers” were saying that charles would never be king because elizabeth would never allow camilla to be queen. who knows. i have no strong opinion about any of them, but i do find their strange and complex dynamics interesting.

  62. Tami says:

Wow, bad lighting. She looks about 40 in these pics.

  63. kaya says:

I read that she will do her own make up!

  64. Zvonk says:

@MrsKrabapple When Charles and Camilla married, Clarence house announced that when the time came for Charles to be King, Camilla would assume the title Princess Consort, not Queen consort. This was in no small part due to her unpopularity with the British public.

  65. JulieM says:

For the last time: When the Queen departs this mortal coil, Charles will be king, not William. Charles will not be pushed aside/passed over for William. It will not happen. Zvonk is correct. Camilla will become Princess Consort, or, I’m guessing, Queen Consort. Why? Because Charles will find a way to make Camilla Queen. I think he was just placating everyone when he agreed to this Princess Consort thing. He is very petulant; he will find a way to get what he wants. Just my opinion.

  66. really says:

if I were Kate, I would slap everyone in the royal crib, including my future husband ….. just to let them know: Katey dont play that! Then I would turn around and wear my tiara – with a smile.

  67. lisa says:

Man they look old for their age….Personally I’m waiting for the wedding of hot Harry.

  68. Minx2 says:

I’m afraid to be dissapointed with her choices. She’s so boring and predictable in her dress. I mean, her clothes were always supremely boring. Nice but old-ladyish..no flair at all. She has great hair but if she wears a tiara (and I hope she does!), a veil and long, flowing locks, the whole thing will be one royal mess. But maybe she’ll surprise me this time.

  69. Minx2 says:

As far as Charles and Camilla are concerned, I start to think that the Queen will outlive Charles. After all, her mother lived to be 101, if I’m not mistaken. If the Queen lives that long, Charles will be in his 80s and he’ll probably be missing most of his marbles.

  70. phlegm says:

Biatch better wear a motherfucking sparkly-ass jewel-encrusted wad of bling on her head. Flowers my crusty ass.

  71. Deeana says:

I went to see the Diana Collection when it toured here in the U.S. They had the wedding dress, the tiara she wore – it was the Spencer family tiara – and it was mindblowing to see how it sparked in person.

Even in the video of Diana entering the church on her wedding day, you can see the diamonds in the tiara reflecting the light. Magnificent!

For anyone who has Comcast, go into “On Demand”, then into “Top Picks” and scroll down until you come to “The Royal Wedding”. There is a film in there that shows 8 Royal Weddings. It is GREAT to watch. It has Diana, Fergie, Anne, Princess Margaret, The Queen, etc.
