Rihanna likes to push the envelope with her fashion, and compared to the ridiculous puffy sleeved tuxedo jacket she wore to the 2009 Met Gala, or what she regularly wears on the red carpet and out as clothes, this isn’t bad at first glance. When you realize that it’s see-through, though, and that the lace is kind of sparkly, that’s when you’re able to grasp how truly ugly this dress is. Also, it has a fish tail, a mono sleeve, and a kind of flesh colored cut out on the side that makes the dress look like it’s held together with spanx material. The gown was by Stella McCartney, who was also responsible for Gwyneth Paltrow’s dated look.
Rihanna wore too-dark makeup with sort of purplish and green eyeshadow, very long fake eyelashes and cranberry colored lipstick. The worst part is her super long Pocahontas braid, though. Who knew that they made extensions in Ronald McDonald red? They must have dyed all that fake hair to match.
Her Louboutin cage shoes are hot, but they look like an afterthought and like they’re not suited to this dress at all. I know some of you will disagree, and it’s possible that nothing could go with this dress.

I kinda like the dress. The hair is ridiculously fug. The makeup’s kinda cute in a gothy way.

@CB I love that you declared it FUG, no debate or choice for us, because really, who can defend this? That braid is straight up ridiculous.
The dress looks cheap and the lace looks like something my tacky aunt picked out from the bargain bin at the fabric store to make a faux undershirt for her pink satin jacket.

That hairstyle would be fantastic for someone with real long hair. I can’t imagine how unhealthy her actual hair is from everything she’s done to it. Ick.
She used to be so beautiful. Now she dresses like a hooker, has the most hideous hair color and can’t make up her mind what she wants to do with her hair. Tacky, tacky, cheap, cheap.
i like the make up on her, and I would have liked the hair if it was 10 inches shorter.
And…not to be picky…but something about her hairline bothers me.

Except for the makeup–I agree, too dark, and the lipstick purple thing is fugly–I think she looks great. That is what interesting, risky fashion should look like, IMO. I like the Pippi Longstocking braid thing, too. Kind of fun. The dress fits her beautifully and the shoes are amazing!

This dress is what happens when a designer runs out of ideas. A side train? That doesn’t even make sense. Rihanna’s make-up is horrible here and actually makes her less attractive. I guess she couln’t get rid of that super long weave in time for the event but she had that hair (not the braid)for a music video shoot in Jamaica for her next single.

That’s what I’d like to know. I mean, I understand that she often tries to do something ‘unique’ & ‘fashion forward’ (instead of ‘boring’ or ‘same as everyone else’.) But she could be unique & still not take it over the line of belonging at a carnival.
I think sometimes it gives people the wrong idea about her goal (Like she wants everyone to ‘look at me!!’), when I really don’t think that’s what she’s trying to express. I know not everyone agrees, but there’s something I find so beautiful & likeable about her. One of those who you KNOW would be a fun friend.
