Jon Cryer’s response to Ashton on 2.5 Men is wittier than Charlie Sheen’s

When the news came out that Ashton Kutcher would step in to fill the void left by Tiger Blood drinking Charlie Sheen on Two and a Half Men a lot of you reacted with a hearty WTF? Kutcher is usually typecast as the doofus that he is and the show is lacking a scoundrel, not a guy who retweets old Internet hoaxes and thinks they’re accurate and cool.

From what I’ve read about the planned retooling of the show, Ashton won’t step in to replace Charlie’s character entirely, but will just play some new guy who comes in to try and balance out the show. There are some decent supporting players on Two and a Half Men, and they won’t have to give up their jobs for a while now that Ashton is around. One of them is men co-star Jon Cryer, who has issued a statement that he’s so excited to work with Ashton and continue to pull in the big bucks for acting on a mediocre sitcom.

“I want to express my enormous gratitude to Charlie Sheen for eight great seasons. I’m extremely proud of the work we’ve done together, and I will miss him,” the actor, 46, says in a statement. “But I’m also looking forward to this new beginning.”

As for Sheen’s replacement – whom the warlock himself called “a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer” – Cryer, again, had only kind words, even if he seemed to be stretching the truth a little.

“Ashton is an extraordinarily talented guy, and his presence will be an asset to our show,” he says. “We are old friends from our male modeling days, and we’re both looking forward to being judged for our comedic artistry, as opposed to our exceptional physical beauty.”

Cryer adds: “I’m jazzed about the news this morning that Two and a Half Men is coming back! For all the rest of the cast and crew I’m sure they are equally excited.”

Charlie Sheen sort-of praised Ashton to TMZ, and then tried to warn Ashton that his boss wouldn’t put up with it if he went off the rails and started trash talking everyone who pays him millions of bucks to act like himself:

Charlie tells TMZ, “Kutcher is a sweetheart and a brilliant comedic performer … Oh wait, so am I!!”

Charlie continues, taking a shot at the show, saying, “Enjoy the show America. Enjoy seeing a 2.0 in the demo every Monday, WB.” Essentially, Charlie is saying the age group that supported him is going to tune out.

Charlie adds, “Enjoy planet Chuck, Ashton. There is no air, laughter, loyalty, or love there.” Of course, Charlie is referring to his nemesis, “Men” creator and Executive Producer Chuck Lorre.

Boo f’ing hoo, Charlie. You don’t make a million plus an episode anymore and have been replaced with a relatively sober kid known for his asinine narration while pulling pranks. Ashton is cheaper than Charlie too. People has his salary at between $600k and $750k an episode. Men producers really missed the boat when they let Hugh Grant slip through their fingers, but Hugh dodged a pretty big bullet too. Ashton thinks he’s making bank and starring on a hit series when he’ll soon become a punch line. I guess he should be used to it by now.

  1. Brittney says:

Ashton was brilliant on That 70s Show, which is the only reason I have hope for this role. (Not that I’ll be watching; the show sucks.)

Will Charlie ever shut up? Ugh.

  2. Mitsey Martin says:

I watched Killers last night on dvd and it was actually pretty good, Assssston was pretty funny and a rockin bod, so if he keeps that up with his shirt off, I would watch it – wouldn’t ever watch Charlie Sheen – he should be put to sleep imho

  3. Justaposter says:

I am still waiting for him to do something on par as “The Butterfly Effect”.

  4. Mizz Tickles says:

I’ll be tuning in to see Ashton!

  5. gee says:

    I think Ashton Kutcher’s funny.

  6. Faye says:

I’m glad that the people on the show still have jobs now that there is a show to air, but I didn’t watch it before, so I probably won’t watch it now.

  7. original kate says:

i agree with mitsey: if ashton takes his shirt off and doesn’t speak i might actually watch the show.

  8. ToastedSkin says:

Yeah the show was never funny to begin with…So whether or not Ashton is funny isnt really gonna matter cause it’s got crappy writing.
But I totally agree on the shirtless thing.

  9. GrnMtGirl says:

Plus 1 here – The show is not that funny.

I never watched it until recently and I have to say I don’t understand what all the fuss is about.

Charlie isn’t funny. I think that Ashton is fun to watch and that he will improve the show. I will tune in for a few episodes to see how it goes.

  10. Sparkly says:

I actually thought he was the worst part of That 70s Show. I’m not happy with this choice at all. I’ll try to watch it, but I seriously doubt I’ll be able to stomach it unless he has a hidden non-annoying side I don’t know about.

  11. Kim says:

Love Jon Cryer but just cancel the show already or give it a new name/make a new show. I hate when shows try to replace the main character and think they will succeed. Ashton is a TERRIBLE actor.

  12. RHONYC says:

“We are old friends from our male modeling days”

lmao! that ACTUALLY made me go ‘huh’?!

i’m such an easy mark. 😆

  13. Lucinda Amerman says:

I’ve said before that I think it’s a pretty funny show but like all comedy, it isn’t going to reach everyone. I know how popular The Office is and I can’t stand it. Maybe that says more about me than the show but whatever.

The truth is I love Jon Cryer. He is the best part of the show and has been all along. It is really fun to see him grow up since I remember watching his as Ducky in 16 candles.

I don’t get Ashton’s casting but who knows. It might be good.

  14. Maritza says:

I think the show will be a success only because they still have the same actors, Charlie Sheen won’t be missed. Ashton will be a great addition to the show. I hope his role is not gigolo type.

  15. gee_gee says:

This whole episode reminds me of how much I love Jon Cryer and thought Molly Ringwald’s character should have chosen Ducky in “Pretty in Pink”.

  16. Helen says:

I was hoping for Hugh Grant. He could have been a snippy British cousin who would have slipped into Sheen’s roll better.

  17. karen says:

can someone tell me the audience for this show, like, i think it is only rivaled by big bang theory in its awfulness, is that the same viewing public? anyway, i’m sure the show will still blow but i’ll Do My Nielson Best and turn it on and then leave the room to give the impression that charlie’s leaving made a diff to me. yes, if ashton is a similar hot idiot as he was in 70s, that would be a step up (mind you, fro 69 steps down)…
