GQ’s new coverboy is the lovely Alexander Skarsgard, who manages to get my heart pumping with every photo I see of him. The only other celebrity that does that for me is Matt Damon, and he’s like the sweet longterm boyfriend you know will be there while Alex is the new fling with a sense of mystery and possibility. You haven’t had to wash his clothes or pick up after him yet and it’s all about the sex. I’m hearing his Eric voice in my head now.

Getting back to reality we have these inspirational 2D images of Mr. Skarsgard, along with a very cute interview. I really love what he said about how nice it is when people ask you about your day! I’ve lived overseas for five years, in Switzerland and Germany, and it’s amazing what you take for granted about American culture. Some Europeans thinks it’s superficial to ask people how they’re doing and not really expect an honest answer, but when no one asks you there’s this emptiness to your day if you’re used to hearing it. I swear I was almost crying the first few days I was back in the US last year after almost a year away. Everyone was so damn nice to me that I wanted to give them all a hug.

Alex also jokes about how his famous family will never do a reality show. You know that his insect thin girlfriend would be up for it though, if only to drape her bony appendages around him in every scene.

Skarsgård on the love scenes with Anna Paquin – who is married to their True Blood co-star Stephen Moyer:
“It’s really clear to Steve and to everybody else what the deal is—which is that Anna is like a sister to me… Those love scenes take quite a bit of acting, actually. A lot of acting.”

…on why he decided to join the Swedish military:
“It was my way of going off into the unknown,” he says. “I didn’t want to just be somebody’s son.”

…on LA versus his native country:
“You walk into the coffee shop, and the girl asks how your day is. When I first moved here, I loved that. I know it’s shallow and superficial and she doesn’t give a f*ck about my day, but I still like it,” he says. Sweden, by contrast, is more reserved. “It’s difficult to get to know a Swede. But once you do, you’re in,” he says. And there’s a stronger sense of boundaries. “You’re never going to see a television show The Skarsgårds.”

…on his famous father, actor Stellan Skarsgård:
“I don’t think I came to acting to compete with my father. But, you know, he wasn’t around as much as normal dads, and seeing his passion…Maybe it was a way to get his attention… I mean, if anything, we’re trying to take care of him. He’s over the hill.”

Stellan on Alex and his brothers:
“Of course I’m threatened,” he says of his sons. “They’re younger, they’re better-looking, and they’re all trying to kill me.”

There’s more on GQ’s website, including this little blurb with his response to a question about his relationship with Kate Bosworth. “When asked about the relationship, he shuts down, smile disappearing, with a completeness and efficiency that could only come from growing up in the public eye. ‘My father always kept the family out of the press,’ he says later, almost apologetic.” He didn’t even say “she’s a great actress,” or “I enjoyed working with her.”

Kate and Alex’s movie Straw Dogs is coming out in September, and the trailer has been released. We linked over to it on Lainey yesterday and it just looks so cheesy. It’s a thriller where Alex plays the leader of a redneck gang who go after Kate’s character and her new husband – played by the guy from Hop! I couldn’t get over the fact that it was the doofy guy from Hop, James Marsden. (I just looked him up.)

Here’s the trailer. It’s got some violence and scary stuff toward the end and I have to admit that it creeped me out. Alex looks really good in it. He’s menacing as hell.
