Wow, I wasn’t expecting this so soon! Marion Cotillard has given birth to her French baby! Huzzah! She only confirmed that she and her long-time lover/boyfriend Guillaume Canet were expecting in January, and Marion isn’t one of those celebrities who is photographed all the time, so it didn’t seem like we were inundated with endless updates of her bump. Marion and Guillaume named their son Marcel. Very French. If I had a French baby, I would probably name him Alexandre or Serge. But that’s just me!
Inception star Marion Cotillard and her French actor-director beau Guillaume Canet are parents.
Their son, named Marcel, was born Thursday night in Paris, a source confirms to PEOPLE. “Mother and baby are fine,” says the source, who adds that Cotillard is “very happy.”
Cotillard, 35, and Canet, 38, first starred together in 2003′s Love Me If You Dare and began dating in 2007.
Though Cotillard – who won a Best Actress Oscar as singer Edith Piaf in 2007′s La Vie En Rose, and will costar with Anne Hathaway and Christian Bale in the upcoming Batman movie, The Dark Knight Rises – has been spotted wearing a diamond solitaire from Canet on her left hand, they are not engaged.
“They haven’t disclosed any plans concerning marriage,” a source told PEOPLE when the pregnancy was announced in January.
The couple most recently collaborated for the film, Little White Lies, which Canet directed.
Cotillard currently costars in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, which kicked off this year’s Cannes Film Festival on May 11 – Cotillard did not attend – and is opening in limited release in Los Angeles and New York on Friday.

Canet is Diane Kruger’s ex, correct? I’ve heard Diane talk a little bit about her relationship with Canet, and she made it seem like they’re still on okay terms, they just grew apart for whatever reason. Still, I bet Diane is thinking about babies now. She and Joshua Jackson should totally have a baby. It would be SO cute. I’m betting that little Marcel will be adorable too – he has two nice-looking parents.

congrats to Marion and her boyfriend for the healthy arrival of their son love the name Marcel though if it were Me I would’ve gone with Marcello after one of my all time favorite Italian actors Marcello Mastorianni. who I best remember as Carmine Sbaratti/Renzo/Augusto Rusconi in Yesterday Today & Tomorrow opposite Sophia Loren

The “whatever” reason why Diane Kruger and Canet divorced was his incessant cheating. So she dumped him and got a devoted Canadian boyfriend who is tres adorable and happy to quietly hold her purse if need be. Much as I love Marion, Diane came out tops.

Why would Diane be “thinking about babies now?” Just because her ex and his current partner had one? If she really wants a child one would hope she would come to that conclusion on her own and not simply because an ex had gone that route.
Diane seems to be in a happy and committed relationship, just like Marion and Canet – there doesn’t have to be invented drama and jealousy just because people dated years ago. These people aren’t teenagers.

Interesting, Marcel was the name of the man who was the love of Edith Piaf’s life. Marion has a great scene in ‘La Vie En Rose’ when she hears he died and she’s screaming “Marceeeeell!”

seriously a girl has to have dreams. what can we dream about if all those great looking guys get babies…? first david tennant, then orlando bloom, now guillaume canet. at least john hamm seems to have no wish to duplicate himself. mäh.is joshua jackson the next in line? :-/
