Christina Aguilera on her relationship: ‘There’s never any drama’

us_christinaaguilera
Christina Aguilera is on the cover of this week’s US Weekly looking like a direct-to-DVD cover for Grease 3: Frenchy teaches Sandy how to work a corner. I would wonder how US editors thought Aguilera could move copies when she can’t sell CDs, but the Bachelorette is on People and OK! this week so it’s probably a traditionally slow week in magazine sales anyway. It’s possible that US worked out a deal with NBC to put Christina on the cover to promote The Voice, as the live competition rounds are airing now.

Inside, Christina repeats the same spiel we’ve heard from her in the past about how she’s doing fine after going through a rough patch with her divorce. She also talks about her son Max, three, with her ex husband Jordan Bratman, and her new relationship with Matt Rutler. Everything is fine in Christina’s world, and she’s not drinking too much (that’s never even mentioned), or refusing to face the reality that she really shouldn’t pair leather short shorts with a low cut leopard bustier.

You endured a lot of scrutiny during your divorce. How difficult was that?
It was really hard, but if you stay in a marriage where the two parties are unhappy, then you’re doing your child a disservice. It’s better to have two houses full of love than one of chaos. I grew up in a household where domestic violence occurred and the greatest gift for me, as a child, was the day my parents got divorced. [Aguilera has often been frank about her father hitting her mother.] The key to having a happy child is having a happy parent. Kids are like sponges: They take on everything.

Does [your son] understand that Mommy is famous?
He’s learning that he’s got to share Mommy’s attention a bit. We’ll be going through the parks at Disneyland and people come up for autographs and he gets very protective. If someone tries to shake my hand or put their arm around me, he’ll say, “Don’t touch my Mommy!”

How does Matt get along with Max?
Matt and Max! It’s like M&M! They’re buddies. If my son didn’t sit well with him, then I wouldn’t sit well with him. Matt’s someone he can have fun with and have some laughs with. And ultimately, my son’s happiness is really important. But I’m not looking for anyone to come in and fill the perfect family white-picket-fence. Me and my little boy are a great team, and Matt has been such a great support.

You and Matt are living together. What do you love about him?
His sincerity – and the fact that he’s so easygoing. There’s never any drama. We recently took a vacation to Florida and went mini-golfing. We just have fun together. Things are light and free – and I’m a free spirit, so it’s important for me to have someone who supports me living my life and letting me be the woman I need to be…

What’s the biggest lesson you have learned from your mistakes?
That anyone who has hardships can get back up again. And it’s really a test for you to overcome those things and make yourself a better person. Turn the other cheek, roll with the punches, digest what’s happened and move on.

[From US Weekly, print edition, June 20, 2011]

All that business about how Matt “supports” her “living her life” reminds me of how she basically told Matt Lauer that she fired everyone who told her to go to rehab and just kept the enablers.

I’ve seen The Voice about three times this season, and at some points Christina came across as haughty and judgmental, in my opinion. In the initial audition rounds she would regularly make bad faces when the competitors weren’t cookie cutter attractive, and she sometimes made little comments that could seem catty. She’s trying though and she can be nurturing with the contests. This gig will help revive her career. The woman can really sing, it’s just a shame she’s so insufferable.

Here are the two performance outfits that Christina wore on the last episode of The Voice. In the blue sparkly bustier thing she’s performing with her team. Notice how she’s the only one who is all dolled up like that while the rest of the women are wearing rather low-key outfits. You would think they would coordinate more, but Christina is the star.

So a DUI is no drama?

And Matt should be more sincere with her about her clothes/make-up/wig. I would appreciate is if my guy would warn me if I truly looked like a hot mess.

She sounds delusional, like she sprinkled sugar all over her story to make it sweet. I wonder if she just does that to convince the reader, or to convince herself.

  2. Enny says:

Oy. Those black hotpants really aren’t doing her hips any favors.

  3. EW says:

UGH…gross, fat, FUG to the max!

  4. brin says:

She’s a mess and probably the only one who believes this…everyone around her is paid to say yes.

  5. constance says:

Again with the old animal print and too much thunder thigh! Doesn’t she have a stylist anymore? She may not have drama with her no-name bf but someone in her team is out to get her. LOL

  6. constance says:

@sisi: I think by drama she means the 7th grade definition of the word. You know, jealous exes, kissing other people, sleeping with your bff, stealing your music cds, not buying you a Build a Bear in the mall that one time… LOL

  7. crab says:

    @ Enny – or thighs!

I think that in theory The Voice is reviving her career, but for those of us watching, it will do nothing to dispel the perceptions that she is a diva, bitchy and quick frankly, drinking heavily. On the live episode last week, her performances were not what they used to be, she missed notes, lacks focus and looked like all kinds of hell. And then, her adlibbing and judging was messy and bitchy. She does not come across likable, in fact kind of childish and petty.

The other judges are much more charming, and, I can’t believe I’m about to say this but, I am actually not thinking Adam Levine is a douche anymore. I think he’s the one who is going to benefit most from The Voice. In fact, now I’m kind of crushing on him a bit. I’m even thinking maybe we need to see him in HGF. Wow, as I live and breathe I never thought I would propose that.

  9. Roma says:

She’s morphing right on into a blonde Snookie.

  10. Dana M says:

I’m not going to bash her for not having a stick figure. Glad that she doesn’t feel the pressure to be boney skinny. But she needs to dress according to her figure. Wearing tight clothing and hot pants not appropriate with her current shape. There are ways to dress sexy with her current physique but she’s going about it the wrong way. What she wore to the Today show was also horrifying! She needs a fashion consultant Stat!

  11. Larissa says:

I honestly think she looks Fab!!!
The extra weight really suits her, and the her/make-up/outfits? Who cares, she is Christina Aguilera ffs! She is totally fun to watch,
    at least she is talented.

  12. your mama says:

@Roma or a human Miss Piggy!! LOL I cannot help it, but that’s who I think of. The hair, make-up, the outfits, the sausage legs. She needs to work-out, stop drinking so much and get that ratty thing of blond mess off of her head. She was such a cute girl!!!! She still has potential, but she’s gotta act on it before she is too far gone.

  13. VV says:

I am a fan of the Voice, I didn’t think I would be but I watched the first episode out of curiousity and I found I didn’t mind it. I think some of the contestants are right out to lunch but some of them have AMAZING voices.

That said, the best part of the show for me…is watching how the judges interact. These are people who are each successful in their careers, perhaps at different stages, so I like to see just how professional or egoistical they can be.

Turns out, everyone of them are very professional except…Christina! Her comments during the live show to her male counterparts were totally immature and inappropriate. Not only that but at one point when they would go in for a close up on Christina, I swear there was a vein on her left breast that looked ready to rip itself out from under the flesh and STRANGLE someone (probably her) It looked painful, like her breast was slowly being strangled by leopard print with cutting off blood flow.

It was pretty gross and it didn’t get any better when she crammed herself into that blue bustier where at one point, with her arm lifted in the air as she tried to belt, you could see where her fake tan had speckled under her arm. It was horrific and was not helped at all by HD tv.

Her performance sucked ass and she sounded bloated and flat, and her hair is an utter mess. In short, she is looking a little like Britney in the ‘hot mess’ department but at least with the basic brain function to actually interact and speak without assistance.

Too bad that everything out of her face is just judgy, catty, immature or that awful cackle of hers.

P.S. I am crushing on Blake! I hate country but I like him, I can’t help it.

  14. serena says:

For the love of god if you’re legs are fat don’t dress like this! It’s hideous, have a little pride!
    I’m ashamed for her.. really.

Anyway she’s just delusional. She talked smack on Britney Spears “fall” and now she is all: everybody make mistakes.
    Fuck off.

She has an amazing voice, but she ruined it all with that idiotic behaviour, her public messes, and her (newly horrible) figure.

  15. John Wayne Lives says:

Dude, she makes me sad. I hope she doesn’t go completely crazy and stay in denial a la Britney. I don’t think she has the family support Britney has to keep her from the total crazy. I’m not really a fan of her’s cause I’m just not into her kind of music, but I think she has a great voice, and it would be sad to see her crash and burn instead of pulling herself up, and working her craft for a lifetime. Cause, come on, who wouldn’t like to have a talent like that.
And BTW, stop with the drag queen look. I agree 100% with the poster who said that when she’s heavier, she just doesn’t know how to dress her body. Figure it out Chrissy, and stop with the makeup too! It’s Gross!

  16. baby says:

she is so whack. of course domestic abuse is terrible and i really am sorry she went through it. but she keeps bringing it up in EVERY interview. its so annoying! shes always acting so smug about “not being the victim” yet she’s constantly playing the victim card.

  17. OXA says:

I have not watched the voice because she is on it, I can not look at her cheap call girl look.
I remember after she gave birth, Xtina going around telling anyone who would listen, just how more more sexual she she was and how perfect her marriage was. Billions of adults in the free world get laid every day but they do not need to share the intimate details.

  18. the original bellaluna says:

@ Roma – I was thinking she’s looking Lardassian Kartrashian-esque in that leopard print & hot pants mess. UGH. Who wants to see that before their first cup of coffee?

Apparently, Shots of Delusion has usurped Vodka Red Bulls as the drink of choice in Hollyweird.

  19. Jazz says:

Homegirl’s always drunk! And she probably hardly ever sees her kid. Matt’s “easygoing” because he’s living the good life on her dime.

  20. Thea says:

She has totally lost it. She use to be a attractive girl in a glamourish way. Now she has a mullet platinum hairdo with whatever the heck is going on in the back. She is like a raging alcoholic now, and her new boyfriend looks just like her ex husband minus the large nose. She is never photographed with her child. She is a drunken mess. And girl could sing. And she has had more drama in the length of time she has been with this new man than her whole time with her ex husband.

  21. Crash2GO2 says:

    Alcoholics lie.

  22. Hautie says:

Holy crap, it looks like Christina has raided Mariah Carey’s closet!

Both of them delusional about their size.

And both of them have enough money to buy cute things that fit.

  23. bluhare says:

@VV (#13): Whoa. That comment about Christina vs. Britney was so beyond bitchy I’m floored. To say that Britney can’t talk or think without assistance is cruel. I’m not a Britney fan or a Christina fan, but my mouth literally gaped when I read that.

  24. malachais says:

@mia girl @VV, my thoughts EXACTLY. I watched The Voice this week and the show is OK, but of course Christina is the bitchiest judge. Adam and Blake seem to really care about the teams they’ve created, especially Blake.

Its funny because Blake usually comes off as the loudest in interviews, but Christina makes Blake seem low-key. She is a hot mess and clearly does not like Blake or Adam. At one point she called one of them out for something, I was just waiting for Adam/Blake to make a drunken remark. WAITING, but it more than likely got edited.

Her styling is ridiculous and unflattering. She is too fat for most of the outfits she wears, and the comment regards ‘ Max has to share my attention’ makes me want to burn all of her makeup LOL. Why not just sign autographs when he’s NOT around? UGH

  25. jover says:

ALways thought she was overrated; this won’t revive her career; her Bionic cd bombed she didn’t even tour to promote despite all the excuses who wants to pay 100-300 bucks to hear her wail. THe lead single Not Myself Tonight looked/sounded like another Madonnaesque reprise; if you want to see someone that can really do it old school style go on youtube and watch tina turner back in the day the 70s. she makes today’s “stars” look like amateurs.

  26. kells-bells says:

    DELUSIONAL. TRANNY. HOT. MESS.
And that’s a she has real talent, which is completely lost to her poor choices in life.

  27. Scarlet Vixen says:

@Roma and @your mama: You’re both totally right!! OMG–blonde Snookie or human Miss Piggie. Hilarious!!:-D

I watched The Voice on dvr last night and it was like a train wreck–I couldn’t look away but couldn’t look at the same time. She gets more bloated and drag queenesque each episode. Her makeup was absolutely horrific. I almost felt bad for her, until she opened her mouth to ruin a Queen song and was so catty to Blake’s team members. And you can just tell Adam Levine hates her guts. I love watching him give her crap.

  28. 4Real says:

GASP!! W-T-H!?? Remember “Lady Marmalade” when she couldn’t even fill up a teddy?

  29. Katija says:

Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera are not fat. They just have a nasty habit of squeezing size 0/2 outfits on a 6/8 body. I’m sorry, but if you aren’t an emaciated little Pussycat Doll, these outfits look horrible. If Britney and Christina wore outfits that were tailored to fit them (Christ, I’m a fairly broke grad student, and even I found a cheapass tailor to alter things for me when needed, everyone would be saying they look great.

I don’t think the camera automatically adds ten pounds, but it does have a nasty habit of catching you at a horrible angle, and outfits like that don’t help.

I wish Christina would just do ballads – like back in the day Mariah or Whitney. It’s what her voice is most suited for. I personally hate the sound of her trying to get through Britney-type songs – when she does that “waaaaaAHHHHH” thing on a little cheesy pop song it just sounds SO trying too hard.

  30. Justaposter says:

She did Storytellers once, and she sounded fantab.. dressed like a hot mess but she really showcased her pipes.

    Where did *that* Xtina go?

I remember when she talked smack about Britney.. and when you think about it, it is rather ironic how the tides have turned.

  31. Enny says:

I actually don’t think Christina is fat. Look at her waist and upper body – she’s petite. Those hotpants are just not flattering, though. She could still look so hot (from the neck down, anyway) – shapely, womanly – she looks good with some meat on her bones. But squeezing into tiny costume pieces that don’t fit and weren’t intended for someone with her somewhat voluptuous shape is just not doing her any favors. It’s really quite sad, she’s delusional.

  32. Amanda G says:

Is she ever with her son anymore? I haven’t seen pictures of them together in months. I’d like to believe that everything is hunky dory in her world, but I don’t. I still think dumping Jordy was her biggest mistake.

I thought the black hair era was bad, but this is without a doubt the worst Christina has ever looked.

As for The Voice, I think Christina is jealous of the (good) contestants and of her fellow judges. She’s a diva, plain and simple.

  33. C-DUB says:

I just need her to dress the new weight. I think she looks fine, but she’s still trying to fit into those little outfits. She’s needs to thin out that weave too! But at the end of the day, the girl can sang. Yes, I said sang!

  34. Alejandro says:

Britney has gotten in shape lately but of course if you only rely on Celebitchy who posts the worst pictures and old ones at that to go along with the stories on stars on their sh * t list you wouldn’t know any differently.

@bluehare I found that person’s comments to be rude too. Not surprising this person is a Christina appologist.

  35. Jewels says:

The banter between the judges is mostly scripted. Read Adam Levine’s comment in Rolling Stone.

  36. kwoww says:

I just dont understand her..she’s always off the mark. she’s really a pretty girl, if she would stop slathering on the fake tan, stop dyeing her hair that color and wear clothes that hide her bow legs she’d look decent.

  37. jemshoes says:

“He’s learning that he’s got to share Mommy’s attention a bit.” This quote pretty much sums up for me why I don’t think Christina’s got her head or heart in the right place.
