These are photos of Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban at last night’s CMT Awards. Nic and Keith were the biggest stars there – Taylor Swift is on tour and it just seemed like most country music people couldn’t be bothered – although Justin Bieber was there and he won too (of course). Back to Nicole: Er… the dress is Proenza Schouler Fall 2011. Go here to see how it was featured on the runway. On the runway, the skirt looks fully lined. Nicole, however, opted for the simple, sheer bottom half, and added her own twist – a visible slip. At first I was like, “Bitch, are those your Spanx?” But it’s a slip.
As you know, I’ve been pushing a theory that over the last year – and even more so after little Faith Margaret came into their lives – Nicole has really stopped giving a crap about fashion and styling. She spent so long really, really, deeply caring about fashion and being the thinnest, most perfect figure on the red carpet, but not anymore. Nowadays she has some happiness in her life, she’s married and she’s got two young baby girls, so Nicole is letting it all hang out. I mean that in a good way – I like the Happy Nicole. Happy Nicole looks like she enjoys Southern food and like she might have oatmeal in her hair. Happy Nicole wanders through a red carpet in hideous, unflattering dresses, her slip hanging out, her bangs trauma looking catastrophic. (Just a note: I don’t hate Nicole with bangs in general, but whatever is happening here is just hideous.)
So, my verdict: she looks like ten kinds of hell, but she also looks happier than she has in a long time. Good for her.
PS… I know, I didn’t even get to what’s happening on her feet. Don’t get me started.

she looks bad in these photos…but there are other photos of the same night where she looks stunning. but i agree that all that really matters is that she looks alive and happy and yay her.

Nicole’s a good actress, but I don’t get why people treat her with kid gloves. If anyone else showed up to an event looking like this, they’d be ripped to shreads. Also when people congratulate her on looking happy, they make it sound like she recently went through a tragedy and finally managed to pull it together. If people are thinking about her divorce, it’s been over a decade! As someone else mentioned, you can look happy and still look good.

I like the color of the shoes but why pair it with that dress? Is that a new Hollywood trend to take the brightest color most clashiest shoes and pair them with what you’re wearing?
OhMyMy — that’s what I was thinking. If she was going to wear a slip for modesty, why that color? Why not a black slip that would at least look like the skirt was lined? This is just…weird. I love the top of the dress, and the skirt would be good too except for that slip.
Also I get that she was trying to pick up the blue from the top of the dress with those shoes but she failed. Miserably.

Nicole/Keith were probably in a major hurry and she just threw something together. They both seem so happy and comfortable with each other.

Nicole, herself, looks flippin’ GREAT! I like her hair. The outfit is different/unusual is all. She really looks pretty and – as you said (and most importantly) – she looks HAPPY!
Ya she should have had the dress lined; but I agree, overall if we ignore the outfit, hair and fillers, she looks good!
Her body looks better than it has in years – it’s nice that she’s put on weight; she looks very healthy.

Nicole does look happy. I think she finally has the life that she always wanted: a nice husband, little ones, and a good career. I think she’s making family a priority right now and that’s awesome.
The outfit is tragic, but the genuine smile on the face of the woman wearing it is beautiful.
I think Nicole looks wonderful in every way but that dress. I don’t understand why anyone wears Proenza Schouler. I have yet to see anything from them I like. On anyone!

Apparently the sheer dress/skirt trend with some sort of opaque piece underneath is a trend right now. If you google “sheer maxi skirt”, you can see what I mean. I like the trend sometimes, and I even like what Nicole did with it. But with those shoes…yeah, different shoes would have changed the overall outfit for me from “what?” to “okay, sure.”

She clearly doesn’t care any more. I have always liked her, but she used to look so perfectly styled and skinny that it was a little off-putting. Now she has gained weight, is wearing dreadful outfits, and is doing her own hair. It makes a refreshing change. I like Nicole being Nicole, and not a Supermodel. Yay!

What is going on with her upper lip? There are some upclose photos and they are just so obvious “lip injection”. Fashion bizzare is not her only problem. Trying to have a plump looking lips is so failed and she just look awful. Happy or not, she is beautiful but enough of the trout pout already!
