Natalie Portman gives birth to a baby boy (Cygnet Millepied?)

wenn5615530

Yay! I had a premonition this past weekend that we would be hearing this announcement in the week to come. Natalie Portman and Benjamin Millepied have welcomed a baby boy. What’s a baby swan called? A gosling? No, a cygnet. So, welcome the Black Swan cygnet. Unfortunately, Natalie and Benjamin didn’t release a named yet (they could do worse than Cygnet Millepied, honestly – little Cyggie!), but I suspect that Natalie and Ben will pick something pretty normal for their kid.

It’s been a big year for Natalie Portman: an engagement, an Oscar and now a baby!

The actress and fiancé Benjamin Millepied have welcomed a son, PEOPLE has exclusively learned.

Portman, 30, met choreographer Millepied on the set of Black Swan, for which she later won an Oscar for Best Actress.

In December the couple announced that they were engaged and expecting their first child.

No jokes about how Sarah Lane did 90% of the pushing, okay? My guess is that Natalie is going to be one of those Gisele-type mothers who goes on and on about natural childbirth. As is her right, I suppose. It will be interesting to see what information Natalie releases in the days, weeks and months to come. I suspect we’ll hear the name at some point, but Natalie will probably save most of the info for when she’s promoting her next movie, right?

In any case, mazel tov to the happy family!

I had a feeling we’d hear something today

  2. LOVE ANGELINA says:

Awwwwww I knew Natalie would have a little boy. For some reason I just knew. Congrats to Ben and Nat. OMG I bet he is sooo cute, I think his parents are super hot, so probably gonna be a ultra cute kid.

I imagine like with most celebs…when promoting something…Natalie will be asked about motherhood and she will talk about it. However I got a real she is famewhore vibe from how you wrote the post but lots of celebs talk about their kids during promotion of their projects, especially because they are asked. Owen Wilson did so when he was promoting something on Jay Leno. However certain people get branded famewhores or using their kids to promote this or that. LOL whatever. This is how the world spins.

  3. lucy2 says:

    Congrats to them!
I hope they pick a normal, simple name, given the more unusual last name.

  4. Angelina says:

A friend of hers said months ago that she was expecting a boy and she denied it lol

Not too fond of her fiance but hope the baby is healthy

  5. Klaw says:

    Baby Swan-Millipede? Hahahaa

    Kaiser, you rock

  6. brin says:

Congrats to them! Not sure about a normal name though, don’t you think she’ll go for something a bit arty-farty? Croissant Milliped anyone?

  7. mln76 says:

She finally popped congrats Natalie !!!

  8. MarenGermany says:

In my mind she is still little Mathilda from Leon. 🙂 I always liked her.
Congrats!!! Wish them all the best.

  9. tapioca says:

Given that she’s Jewish and that religion passes along the maternal line, I’m guessing they won’t tell anyone the name until the bris, 8 days after the birth.

I’m thinking Napoleon Shalom Baryshnikov Hershlag-Millepied

  10. Quest says:

Oh finally, congrats on the new addition

  11. Shay says:

I only hope it’s not some stupid celebrity-esque name like ‘Tree’ (I’m poking fun at Willow) or something similar.

  12. TXCinderella says:

Maybe he will be named after his father. Bennie-boo-boo-boo-boo-boo.

  13. Luna says:

Congratulations Natalie! I’m very happy for you 🙂

  14. normades says:

I bet they pick a classic French name like Jules or Henri.

  15. Abby says:

I hope she gives him an Israeli name!

  16. CliffRichard says:

Jeremiah, Isaac or Joel. Something Hebrew

  17. Larissa says:

I think she will go french with the name!

  18. TQB says:

@CliffRichard, ah crud, if she takes Isaac from me I will cut a bitch. I’m not kidding. My baby is due in 3 months and I cannot have it be named the same thing as Portman’s. Just CANNOT.

  19. Fuzzy Cat says:

Love her boots in the last photo!

  20. KLaw says:

i hear you, TQB. I’m not even pregnant but if she steals my French names like Jules and Pierre (they run in my family), I’m gonna be pissed. Angelina already makes my long-standing love for Cambodia and desire to help the orphans there appear completely unoriginal. Grrr

I hope she names him Cygnet Tree!

  21. Cheyenne says:

As long as she doesn’t name him Darth…

  22. anoneemouse says:

With the last name of “Millepied” the poor kid already sounds like a bug.

  23. dread pirate cuervo says:

    @Tapioca LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!

  24. tiredofrumers says:

she’ll name it something pretentious, guaranteed.

  25. feebee says:

You had me for a split second with Cygnet. I was all ‘no f—ing way!!’, then LMAO, very funny 🙂

  26. original kate says:

i’ll bet she names the kid after her father or grandfather. congrats to them.

  27. Ally says:

“No jokes about how Sarah Lane did 90% of the pushing, okay?”

    LOL, for real

  28. MikeyAngel says:

@TXCinderella Per Jewish tradition, they don’t name children after living relatives, so I don’t think it will be a jr.

I am going to guess something normal and hebrew-like.

  29. Tiffany says:

Yes, I’ve had enough of the natural birthing thing. Births are like weddings, something always goes wrong. You plan for this natural birth and then in the middle of full oxytocin induced 72 hour misery, you are all “Hell YES, stick that epidural into my back!”
Hey, I wanted a natural birth, I nursed each kid for 2 years, but a 3 day labor will make you do anything, anything to get rid of the pain.
All the same, welcome little Cygnet. (Helen of Troy’s Mother was supposedly “raped” by Zeus in the form of a cygnet)

  30. Sumodo1 says:

Chaim Witz (shout out to Gene Simmons) Hershlag. Just kidding! They are still unmarried. And, I doubt she’ll hyphenate Millepied with Hershlag. Poor kid.

  31. MikeyAngel says:

Tiffany I totally agree, although I don’t think it has to go days to get to that point. When I had my daughter they started induction at 7 am, water broke at 10, contractions started bad at 11, by 1 I had my epidural caused I cried and acted a damn fool enough for the nurses to have mercy on my soul. I didn’t have my daughter until 9:30. It was the most painful, ridiculous thing I have ever done. I didn’t want to look at my daughter at first because I thought she was going to have little red horns and a tail. I am tired of hearing about natural birth. Great job to those who can do it but it is almost like it demonizes having a baby with an epidural. Ughhhhh I am having flashbacks…make it stop!

  32. Isa says:

MikeyAngel- Supposedly being induced makes your contractions stronger and more painful. I was planning on seeing if I could do without but was screaming for an epidural before I was even a 4!

I even had two shots of pain medication before I got it. My daughter was super alert, looking at everyone that was holding her. I was up and walking 30 minutes later. I don’t regret it!

I bet she had an epidural. But who knows, I also thought she would have a girl.

  33. MikeyAngel says:

Isa, my daughter was really alert too, and I was walking as soon as they got me stitched up (had a 9 pound 5 ounce baby) and after I fed her. I think I have an incredibly low threshhold for pain because I don’t think I was even a 2 or 3 when I got my epidural. I even moved while getting the epidural and had a spinal headache (spinal fluid leaking from my spinal column) and I wouldn’t take it back. I honestly do not understand women that don’t get one! Why would anyone choose not to? I don’t know though, maybe I am a superwuss.

  34. Mimi says:

Say NO for being induced, and YES for epidural.

for some reason, most American women agree to being induced with no reason , and therefore suffer much more and “hurry” their body in an unnecessary way.

Doctors make more money when they induce or perform additional procedures, such as “assisted delivery”. Some women get so exhaused because they do not use epidural, that they need a much riskier birth- in the form of assisted delivery.

For some unclear reason, epidural is not the clear choice for all women.

    I have no idea why.

I do not know of any person who asks his dentist not to use anything, so they feel the pain “naturally”.

Epidural is the way to go, ladies.

  35. ZenB says:

I don’t think any name goes with Millipede

  36. fabgrrl says:

Ah, Epidural, Epidural. My love for thee springs eternal, Epidural.

Tried natural birth with the first one, and I think I’m *still* kind of mad at my kid for causing that pain. When the second one came, I asked for the epidural immediately. I napped through most of the labor and my daughter was out in four pushes.

  37. Isa says:

I was made to wait until I was a 4 to get my epidural. I was screaming for one at a three. It was embarrassing. But from what I’ve read from women that have had a natural childbirth with one and an induction with another it’s a lot worse. Of course, there are several other variables to consider. But I’ve already decided I’m not going to be electively induced with this baby. I think that’s part of the reason I was in so much pain–my body simply wasn’t ready.

I’m all for natural birth if the woman wants it. But my choice is an epidural! Hopefully everything will go as well as the last and I’ll sleep until it’s time to push! 🙂

  38. Nikki Girl says:

Congrats, hope the kid isn’t a big tool like his dad.

  39. GradStudentEatingHotPockets says:

Hahaha everyone who has posted their natural birth and epidural stories…you’ve made my day! I’ve been cracking up with the honesty.

Before my friend was pregnant with her first child she was like “I’m going to get an epidural, I’m going to push it out and be done with it!” Then she got pregnant. She had her baby au-natural. She has been pushing natural birth on me (even though I am no where near being ready for a child at this point in my life) and makes inductions AND epidurals sound evil. I get why inducing could be unnecessary in most situations…but the damn epidural!? I KNOW I will get one.

But seriously, these stories are soooo soooo awesome.

  40. Liana says:

I’ve been screaming for epidural for months and I’m not even pregnant yet. I have a very low tolerance for pain, apparently. Just thinking about conceiving makes me want an epidural.

  41. kasper says:

I bet Natalie will be studying her baby to improve on her patented crying routine (what she calls acting). “Come on little Jehovah: I cry, you cry. You cry, I cry.”

  42. Layzo says:

I had epidurals both times and no regrets. I don’t think I could have gotten through it all without it. Seriously, it is so painful. I am all about natural just not when it comes to childbirth… buuuuuut I do wonder if I should go for the water birth route if I have a third.

Congrats Natalie 🙂 I am sure baby will be gorgeous since she’s gorgeous and her fiance isn’t too bad either. I am curious to know what they will name the baby.

  43. Jazz says:

I’ve never been pregnant, but my mother was induced when she had me – I was “all baby no fluid” in there apparently, and she said the labour was even worse than it was with my brother, and he was bigger. I only weighed five pounds!

Anyway there ain’t no way Natalie pushed that kid out – bitch probably had a scheduled c section and a tummy tuck like everyone else in Hollywood!

And the kid’s probably already been accepted into Harvard.

  44. Mariah Sweet says:

I’ve had both a typical hospital birth (pitocin, continuous fetal monitoring, epidural) and a typical low-risk home birth (quick, comfortable until the pushing stage). For those who have said they couldn’t have done it without an epidural, I understand that.. hospital births tend to dramatically increase a mother’s perception of pain. Seriously, contractions seemed 10x more painful in the hospital than they did at home. I think it was because I couldn’t get comfortable there. At home I was doing whatever I wanted and my midwives weren’t even in the same room with me most of the time, so it was very comfortable and private. Home birth is the way to go for low-risk women and it’s common in Europe. Research is showing hospital vs. home birth to have about the same outcomes among low-risk populations (high risk moms should be in hospitals, since that’s what they’re there for). I think a lot of families don’t realize that if you live close to a hospital, that you can be transferred safely for an emergency C-section if it’s necessary. Midwives can tell when a transfer is necessary and they don’t hesitate to send women off to hospitals as needed, so home birth can be very very safe for healthy women. More celebs are doing it for this reason, too.. it’s private and safe.

  45. MarksMom says:

My baby came so fast, there wasn’t time for an epidural.
