Christina Hendricks covers up her assets: just hideous or simply tragic?

wenn3402171

A few weeks ago, I gave Christina Hendricks credit for finding two somewhat flattering outfits. The first was just a casual jeans-shirt-blazer combination that I thought suited her, and the second was a boob-tastic, strapless, corset dress in black. Many of you liked the booby dress, mostly because (in my opinion), if you click on a Christina Hendricks story, you expect to see her most publicized feature: BOOBS. I’m starting to wonder if Christina is happy with that situation. She seems to be trying to cover up a bit more often lately.

So, these are photos of Christina at the LA Film Festival premiere of Drive, the film that she did with Ryan Gosling and Carey Mulligan (Carey wasn’t at the premiere, but Ryan was). I don’t know who or what Christina is wearing. It’s absolutely hideous. It must be hell to find a suit that fits her, so I applaud her effort on that part. But the high-necked, ruffled blouse – in that unflattering blush-pink – is just awful. It looks awful with the suit, it looks terrible on Christina, and it’s all so bad that it’s made me recall something that Jessica Simpson once said. You know it’s bad when I’m citing Jessica as some kind of style expert, but she was right about this: women with big boobs (Jess, Christina, me) should not and cannot wear high-neck anything. No high-neck blouses, no turtlenecks, nothing like that. It makes you look top heavy and stubby. Which is exactly what’s happening here to Christina – she’s added unneeded weight on her top half, and she’s covered up one (two?) of her best assets. Plus, that blouse is just fug. Here’s another style tip for the big-breasted: NO RUFFLES. Jesus.

I dislike the hairstyle too, but at least she’s growing out her bangs, I guess.

Black generally helps people to look slender, but she looks big dressed that way,big with a little head. Her eyes are beautiful, but the colour of her hair is wrong like the rest…

  2. Anne says:

Outside of Mad Med this woman mostly looks terrible. It’s a shame because she’s gorgeous.

  3. Hex says:

The blouse certainly is unfortunate and unflattering. Dressing her figure is probably harder than all of us realize. I cringe a little bit inside at the thought of how hard it must be to buy quality, stylish clothing for women whose measurements wander outside the cookiecutter sizes 0 – 6 in LA and NYC. Also, whereas I can get away with a few key well-made, well-tailored pieces to mix and match with things I find in department stores and boutiques that cater to curvy women, CH has to have glorious new outfits and gowns ALL THE FRICKING TIME!

Fashion be damned, I can’t help but be enamoured with CH: she has a striking face, gorgeous skin, and comes through as very charming and genuinely playful in her interviews. I just love, love, love her!

  4. Franny says:

God that face! She is so so pretty

  5. Deven says:

She’s lovely…too bad the suit is hideous AND tragic!

  6. bagladey says:

    Yuk.

  7. dr.bombay says:

    oh no.

  8. Celia says:

she’s so beautiful! Although this outfit is not perfect but I am really glad she doesn’t shove her breasts into our faces like she usually does. *laughs*

  9. CaramelKiss says:

She looks like a smaller version of Adele. I imagine this is what Adele would look like if she were smaller.

  10. sally says:

Her face looks very plastic surgeried to me… especially the second pic.

  11. SolitaryAngel says:

Whoever did her eye makeup, she needs to keep them or hire them because her eyes look beautiful. THERE, I said something nice!

Everything else is just way unfortunate, like she is a nanny from hell with her “Princess Leia” one-bun hair disaster.

At this point, I have to seriously wonder what her system is for choosing clothes to wear; I’m imagining a sort of blindfolded pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey type thing, only she does it in her closet. O_o

  12. louise says:

I don’t think the dress is that bad. The shirt is horrible especially the color. She should have worn white.

  13. OtherChris says:

She should not be allowed to dress herself.

  14. searching4grace says:

Can she just take her clothes from Mad Men home? They know how to dress her. She’s such a beautiful woman, and those clothes fit her so beautifully. I adore her no matter what. Wear whatever you want and whatever you’re comfortable in!

  15. constance says:

Is it me, or is this the same exact corset dress linked from above with a suit jacket and a fluffy “dickie?” The fabric and hem looks exactly the same.

If so, I’m glad she covered up the “spill over” issues with the top of that dress. But she never looks comfortable in any of her clothes. She needs a stylist.

  16. Jill says:

She’s so pretty but has no idea how to dress her frame. She always looks a goddamn mess! And really uncomfortable.

  17. Elizabeth says:

dislike the hairstyle, dislike the outfit. its a how-to in dressing a pretty woman to look ugly – @ Jill – ITA, she doesn’t seem to know how to dress her lovely body in a flattering style.

  18. YvetteW says:

She is sort of d@mned if she does, d@mned if she doesn’t work the twins. Maybe the covered look would be more acceptable if the chosen outfit wasn’t so unfortunate in style and color. OK. It is just an ugly outfit, so the girls cant work any magic.

  19. normades says:

She needs a (new?) stylist pronto.

  20. Gwen says:

    Oh dear :O

  21. Bubbling says:

I cannot help it, this girl irritates me so much, like most of you here Goop can set off quite easily

  22. Kiska says:

Busty women should NEVER wear ruffles in the chest region. BAD!

  23. RHONYC says:

she looks like the town’s schoolteacher all dressed up for the annual lemonaid social. 😉

  24. Hm says:

Her makeup looks MUCH better. She looks fresh and pretty. Simpler clothing would suit her better and keep the attention on her lovely face.

  25. Amanda G says:

Wow…that whole look is so, so bad.

  26. ZenB!tch says:

I have that skirt (or something similar), mine is much looser. That blouse would be hideous on anyone and her usual gorgeous red hair is off. I actually thought it was *gasp*ScarJo*gasp* in the thumbnail.

  27. Devon says:

Maybe if she unbuttoned the jacket?

  28. gab says:

The outfit with the hair?????? Too much Little House on the Prairie.

  29. anti says:

it’s cute… not bad for every now and then.

  30. courtney says:

she’s woefully unfortunate then again most of the cast of Mad Men are mis-cast as it’s supposed to take place in the early-mid 1960’s and most of them were born a decade or 2 later. Opehlia Dahl would’ve been right for that show & can actually act unlike Ms Hendricks and her Cohorts in crime

  31. Rosanna says:

How WOW she finally looks classy!!!!

  32. khaveman says:

Not a good look. Some of it might have worked, just not all together. I think I don’t like the ruffled shirt.

  33. taxi says:

Wrong skirt for that jacket that doesn’t fit properly. Bad hairdo, but she’s still a beauty.

@courtney – What?? The show is about the people who worked the biz in that era. Are you saying the actors are too young for the roles they play? Don’t think so.

  34. Lauren says:

She is scaring me…the boobalicious parade made more sense than this hobosuit travesty.

  35. Jilly says:

I have similar measurements to Christina and I can’t tell you how hard it is to dress, especially if you don’t have an impressive budget. I can’t go to a store and even buy a bra, they must all be ordered off the web and only the very expensive ones offer the sizes small women with a large bust need.

As for on the rack clothes, basically in order to look good I would have to have my entire wardrobe tailored. Rarely can I buy a dress, I always have to by a skirt and a top that is really to big for me but accommodates my bust. Every now and then I luck out and find something that just makes me look as good as I look in a bikini but basically 99% of my clothes make me look much fatter than I am and there is nothing I can do about it. I don’t have the money for a tailor.

I think she’s amazing for continuing to put her face out there despite all the flack she gets about her poorly dressed red carpet numbers. It’s the clothes that were made poorly, not her that looks bad. She is a truly gorgeous person from the inside out.

  36. Charlotte says:

Anybody from the South knows what I mean – Bless her heart!

  37. NicoleAM says:

That has to be the worst I’ve seen her. Between that outfit and my god that hair, what was she thinking?

  38. Christine says:

whoever let her out of the house looking like that is mean. She is a beautiful woman and that outfit does NOT do her justice.

  39. GingerSnap says:

I totally agree with whoever said she never looks comfortable in her clothes. That pic second from the bottom says it all. Poor Christina KNOWS how terrible that outfit is. Jesus… I kept trying to fix it in my mind… change the shirt, change the shirt color, change the hair, change the hair shade, change the fabric of the suit… Take off the goddamn suit and hire a new stylist PLEASE for the LOVE of GOD you are so beautiful Christina Hendricks, you are so beautiful with such pretty skin and amazing eyes and a credit to gingers everywhere, but holy shitballs that is some bad freaking styling.

  40. Gossip Owl says:

UGH. That is hideous AND tragic. Is there another thick girl in Hollywood who can buddy up with Christina and take her shopping and show her how to dress for her frame?

  41. really says:

    Very Mae West!

  42. Fran says:

I don’t think she looks that bad at all. I especially love the hair style, it’s original and really suits her face.

I think she’d rather been known for her talent more than her boobs (which are great!), and she might want to go for a more conservative style rather than a va-va-voom, thing all the time!.

  43. Lucy says:

Quick….someone call animal rescue…those puppies are suffocating in that thing!

  44. T. Redd says:

GET A STYLIST – OMFG! She’s not horrible – just a mess. It’s nice to have something other than the typical cookie-cutter, needs-a-burger, blonde to look at but my GOD, she even LOOKS miserable and unsure of herself in this hideous ensemble. Someone help this woman!

  45. Cleo says:

She literally wore a burlap sack on Firefly and she looked fine. I think her stylist should embrace her curves a la Mariska Hargitay’s mother.

Obviously, that shirt or dickey is the wrong color. And that suit could be a sheath as it would have been in the Mad Men era. Her clothes are fighting her curves. At least she hasn’t started looking like Stevie Nicks – not that that doesn’t work for Stevie Nicks.

We know from Firefly, that CH can wear pants so that may be what she must do.

  46. JennJenn says:

All covered up in those drab colors would be tragic for anybody. The first day of summer is almost upon us, and it’s warm to sizzling just about everywhere in the country. Leave the blazers in the closet and put on a long, figure-hugging dress with spaghetti straps to show off those pale, dewy shoulders.
