Olivia Wilde covers Marie Claire: “I’m human, I don’t live up to any sort of ideal”

Olivia Wilde is the August cover girl for Marie Claire, likely to promote the same film that Daniel Craig is promoting in Esquire – Cowboys & Aliens. In case you haven’t seen the trailer for it, Olivia plays what I believe is an “old-timey prostitute” who befriends Daniel Craig’s character. Something like that. So far, no one is really excerpting quotes from the interview, but I’m looking at the scans, so here are a few morsels – I should note that I can’t stand Olivia, out of character, speaking in an interview. She annoys the hell out of me – that being said, I think she looks gorgeous in the photo shoot.

On her divorce: “The trauma of the whole thing has been humbling, and for the first time, I’m a little bit wobbly. I’m a case of arrested development, in a way – from spending your 20s with someone who really loves to take care of you, as my husband did. But I think it’s very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not be defined by another person.”

More on her post-divorce life: “I kept saying ‘I failed!’ Admitting that I’m not perfect was a wonderful thing that came out of this. There’s this fear that everyone is going to be disappointed in you, but I’m human. I don’t live up to any sort of ideal. It makes you a more empathetic person, and I think it’s made me a better actress. Weakness is something we don’t like to admit we have. We hold it against people, until we experience it, and then we feel more compassion for it. David Shore, who created House, said, ‘You should get divorced every year; your acting’s never been better!’”

Being a romantic: “In the end, maybe it’s just that I’m a ridiculous romantic. I have very high standards for every part of life – my work, my relationships, food, love. I can’t just pretend. I’m trying to be adult, entering the shark pool of dating, but I’m hopeless at it… I think of myself as being very cool and independent and not jealous, but I like clarity.”

The magazine then goes on to list some of the men that Olivia has been attached to over the past few months, many we have detailed: Bradley Cooper, Justin Timberlake, Jake Gyllenhaal… I feel like I’m missing someone. It probably doesn’t matter. CRAP, I forgot Ryan Gosling! Gosling was her jumpoff date right after Olivia split with her husband. I had put it out of my mind!

Anyway, what’s new is that Olivia recently had to deny that she was dating Chris Pine, that douche-type that dated Audrina Patridge. Oh, but that’s not all! Marie Claire also claims that Olivia has been rumored to be dating Salman Rushdie. For the love of…

    Blah!

  4. garvels says:

The Hollywood crowd is doing everything to make this girl happen.

  5. Ari says:

I actually could see her dating Rushdie. Moreso, than the others at least.

  6. Sloane Wyatt says:

Well, I can tell Olivia is a beautiful idiot.

On dumping her husband, one phrase jumps outs “someone who really loves to take care of you, as my husband did.”

She’s a complete ninny to throw away being married to a guy that loves you like that. Being a romantic and all, I’m sure she thinks she can do so much better. Liv will find out soon enough that what she had with her husband isn’t easily found again.

    Kaiser!

I CANNOT believe that you didn’t give her ish for her bangs trauma on the cover!!!!! I don’t normally have an issue with bangs but her hair looks like an ill-fitting wig there!! You’ve gone soft…

  8. cle says:

She’s so the new italian queen. Could happen

  9. AlaskaJoey says:

Glad to hear she’s not dating Chris Pine. I was worried as she seems to be just his vacant type.

  10. VV says:

“David Shore, who created House, said, ‘You should get divorced every year; your acting’s never been better!’”

Wow what a crappy thing to say and then share in an interview like that. Not that I watch House anyways…

  11. AngelMay says:

She’s not all that. She has bad tree-trunk legs.

  12. Sefa says:

She WAS rumored to be dating Rusdie after they were spotted having dinner together, but it turns out he’s really good, old friends with her parents.

  13. Lou says:

She has high standards for food? What an odd thing to say. Is it only filet mignon and lobster tails? Bone marrow and octopus salad? First of all, I doubt that any actress actually eats like a normal person. I bet this is just her excuse about why her friends never see her eating. “Oh, onion rings? No. I have really high standards for food.”

  14. Leona says:

Lou, she probably means she eats high quality items, not fancy food, bit of a cheap shot that one. Nothing wrong with being critical of the food you put in your body, I’d say.

She’s probably a fan of organic food and I think I read somewhere that she’s vegan.

  15. vivien says:

these pictures are beautiful, she photographs well.

  16. Kimbob says:

Wow…those are great pics. Yes, she does photograph well. Also, I thought she came across as thoughtful in the interview. I like the comment she stated about how she ‘likes clarity.’ I totally get that. Her mention of entering ‘the shark pool of dating,’ as in YES, it can be very ambiguous. I used to not like her so much, but am beginning to change my mind. I don’t think she comes across as stupid AT ALL. I thought she was giving an honest, insightful interview.

  17. Turtle Dove says:

That massive jaw was Photoshopped right down.

It does seem like someone is trying to make this gal ‘happen’ like the OP said. She’s trying pretty hard herself. The pictures of her and Chris Pine are HILARIOUS. Exiting a restaurant, she’s mugging for the camera trying her best to hang onto him and he bolts leaving her well behind. She looked like an idiot.

“I’m trying to be adult, entering the shark pool of dating, but I’m hopeless at it…” I think the better analogy would be SHE’S the shark entering the pool. She’s trying too hard and looking pathetic in the attempt. She’s probably not f*cking all those guys she’s attached to, but she’s making herself appear like a mattress back flitting from guy to guy.

  18. Tiffany says:

Damn it Ari. You beat me to it. I totally see her pursuing Rushdie or him her. She because being with him will have people thinking she is some intellecual and has more substance then being a barely below average actress with a hot body. He because she young with perky boobies. Notice all of his gfs are younger than Pasma.

  19. Ruffian9 says:

    Dead eyes.

I absolutely do not get the appeal of this woman.

  20. bappi says:

i really like her. she is not a very good actress, but as a person i find her very interesting, smart and funny. she also does a lot of charity work, which is always nice

  21. katnip says:

Don’t like or dislike her. I think she looks like a slightly younger version of Carla Bruni Sarkozy.. especially on the cover.

The thing with Olivia and all the others they are all in a tough position. None of them are that interesting. They allow themselves to be attached to men as a way to get noticed. Sad. They were saying that TRON would make her happen. Now it is Cowboys and Aliens.. Thing is these movies are about the MAN not the woman running next to him.

The interview is forgettable. The pictures are nice but I really doubt if she and others are selling magazines.
