First, new trailer for ‘Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows’: awesome or meh?

GAH!!! The new, first trailer for Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows has finally been released! I’m so looking forward to this movie. I absolutely LOVED the first one! The combination of Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Guy Ritchie is absolutely heavenly, and I have high hopes for this second film, in which the boys are joined by LISBETH!! Lisbeth Salander, or the Swedish actress who played Lisbeth in the Millennium trilogy, Noomi Rapace. Oh, and Prof. Moriarty has a bigger part in this story too – after much talk about Brad Pitt possibly playing Moriarty, Ritchie ended up casting Jared Harris, perhaps best known to American audiences as “the British dude/Lane Price” in Mad Men. Here’s the trailer. *squeal*

So much Noomi goodness! And RDJ in drag! And Sherlock and Watson’s bromance is as strong as ever! This seriously made my morning. I can’t say I’m a huge fan of “game of shadows” but I think it’s a throwback reference to the original Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories, so meh, I guess I won’t complain about it. This isn’t due out until Christmas! I imagine it will be a massive hit during the holidays.

I’ll definitely see this — I really enjoyed the first one (and was surprised by the fact I thought Jude Law was great and perhaps even more interesting as Watson than Downey Jr. himself as Holmes).

I’d have chosen Rachel Weisz for the role of Irene Adler (instead of McAdams) but that first movie was indeed entertaining. Plus there was Mark Strong and sexy overlapped front teeth which I always love to watch.

    cannot wait!

I am obsessed with Sherlock Holmes (the books), and I enjoyed the first movie. To be honest, I didn’t really care about the story line. I loved the interactions between Watson and Holmes.

If this somewhat follows the original books in terms of the role Moriarty plays, I wonder how far they’ll take it. I don’t want to give away two spoilers for people who aren’t familiar with them (although I think they’re probably fairly well-known), but I can see them setting things up for a trilogy….

i really love the first movie, their interaction was sweet and somewhat funny, they are both good looking men and great actors, i even liked Rachel in it, i will miss her, i wish they chose a different female for this one, i am not familiar with this actress.

The only movie and trailer (besides the final HP) that I’ve been excited about since Inception!

  12. Leprechaun says:

What’s the deal here? Sherlock Holmes was a man of phenomenal intellect and reason, not a Rambo-esque action hero.
The movie doesn’t seem to capture the spirit of the books or the character himself. But it will probably appeal to action fans.

    @ Original Bellaluna:

I was waiting for you to show up because I wanted to tell I bought three movies with Sir Royal Corpsey Hotness Paul Bettany two days ago. One of the biggest video stores here is being shut down so they’re getting rid of their stock/collection…when I heard about that it already was too late (they had been doing that for a month), most good movies were gone, but I still found Wimbledon (new, sealed in plastic — but much cheaper than it would at a regular store), Gangster No. 1 and The Reckoning. I highly recommed the last ones.

I also bought Cursed with Jesse Eisenberg — my newest crush. Awful movie but he looks so damn cute I won’t mind watching it again.

  17. jen says:

It looks good, but I’m more excited about Series 2 for BBC’s Sherlock.

  18. TQB says:

@jen, me too. More Cumberbach, please!!!!

  19. Circe says:

I watched it and the first things that popped into my mind were “No Stephen Fry” and “RDJ, unlike Johnny Depp, does not make for a very attractive woman.”

From which we can conclude that I think I like the TV series better.

  20. Stephanie says:

It looks really great! I find Brad Pitt to be a very one-note actor, so I’m glad they did not cast him.

  21. galaxy.girl says:

I abhorred this particular S.H. due to the non stop constant slow motion & narration of everything before it was about to happen. Horrible. I too cannot wait for BBC EVERYTHING. It is always 100 % better.

    love love love love rdj!!!!!!
