A few years ago, Jessica Biel stated that her extreme beauty “really is a problem” and that in too many cases, she’s simply too gorgeous to find work. It was all pretty funny, because… well, it’s Jessica Biel. Some people think she’s very attractive, but an equal number of people (me) find her… odd-looking. She’s pretty. Sometimes. But the point of Biel’s comment was that her overwhelming loveliness is the only thing keeping her from all of the Oscar-bait “Real Acting” jobs. Which is absurd, especially since Biel cannot act her way out of a paper bag, and it’s only because of her beauty (and her butt) that she’s been able to get any work whatsoever.
I bring this up because Fox News reminded me of it in the intro to this short little Sofia Vergara interview. You see, Sofia is definitely not one of those “I’m too beautiful to find work” people. Sofia is smart. Sofia has hustle. Sofia isn’t a narcissist stuck up her own ass.
In Hollywood, being deemed a sex symbol can be a double-edged sword. Jessica Biel once declared that being blessed with such beauty was “really a problem” when it comes to being considered for substantial roles, and Megan Fox too complained that she was tired of being seen as just eye candy.
However, “Modern Family” star Sofia Vergara, who has been featured on Maxim’s “Hot 100” list, named one of People Magazine’s “Most Beautiful,” and come within shouting distance of the top spot in AskMen.com’s list of “Most Desirable Women” has no complaints when it comes to being branded hot Hollywood property.
“I love it. Of course, it’s great at my age. It’s fantastic,” Vergara told FOX411’s Pop Tarts column while promoting her forthcoming family flick, “The Smurfs.” “I think that everything that is positive and good helps out with your career. Why not embrace it and take advantage?”
Vergara, 39, channels French cosmetic magnate Odile in the highly-anticipated film, but in real life, she stays looking great with a balanced approach.
“Everything in moderation. Not too much food, not too much exercise, not too much anything. Everything in moderation,” Vergara said. “And of course, wearing sun block, doing the things that your dermatologist tells you to do—that helps with the aging process.”
And her self-titled Smurf name?
“Sexy Mama Surf,” she laughed.

What I love about Sofia is that she would probably be fine as just being seen as a great rack and a bangin’ body, but then she swooped into Modern Family and stole the show. She is a surprisingly deft comedienne and an underrated (but limited) actress. She’ll be the first to admit that no one is going to cast her as a brain surgeon. But there’s always a demand for easy-going, professional, funny, beautiful women.

I love her and I will love her more if she was not lying about her age… she is supposed to be younger than gwyneth paltrow, winona ryder, heather graham, JLo… she looks fantastic but not fooling anybody in the age department I think she is more in her late 40’s than thirties…

I don’t think she’s lying about her age. Her va-va-va-voom body makes her look older, I think. But if you look at her face in shots with no makeup, she looks very girlish in the face. Love her in Modern Family!
If she’d trim those bushy brows, and ease up on whatever shes obviously injecting into her cheeks, she’d be perfect. (at least in my eyes)

@Funnylilou75 – do you have some evidence she’s lying about her age or you just personally think she looks older than those you named? I certainly don’t think she looks older than Goop or Salma Hayek or really anyone you named. If you look at her neck and her hands, they both look pretty young to me so I’d buy that she’s 39. The other reason I don’t think she’s lying is that she has a pretty old son, right? I don’t know why someone would lie about being a teenage mother (and it would be easy to check whether she really had him at the age she claims).
I think she’s gorgeous whether she’s 39 or 49! She’s hot hot hot and I love her on Modern Family. Plus I think it’s hilarious that she’s really a blonde but couldn’t get any work that way so she dyed her hair brown.
She’s been around for a long time and being a Latina myself and knowing very well she’s been to other doctors other than the dermatologist, it irks me a little when they refer to her as a ‘natural beauty’ because some of us who knew her before she went Hollywood know she’s not 100% natural
@inthekitchen: I love her either and think she is hot… I have personally no evidence, but in show business (or fashion) it is common knowledge that she is shoving years exactly like catherine zeta jones did (=with no evidence at that time but the lie somehow was discovered…)and we are not talking about an old lady, look at sharon stone or julianne moore or marisa tomei their neck and hands are pretty well preserved… oh and compare her to marisa tomei she seems more her age than alyssa milano’s…hot or not!

She’s gorgeous, and it’s doubtful she’s lying about her age. I love it when people back up their crackpot conspiracy theories with ‘it’s common knowlege in this or that circle’. She does not in any way look like she’s in her late 40s, and like the other poster pointed out, why would she lie about being a teen mum?

And she is well aware of her acting abilities and assets. She often jokes that she cant believe she is fooling people into thinking she can act but she also says how grateful she is for getting acting jobs been latin with a heavy accent at her age.

I’m not familiar with her appearance before the US, but tried to a search to see the difference. I couldn’t find any pics where her body looked different…Maybe I wasn’t finding old enough shots? (she had something done to her face?)

Agreed… Especially when they cite their ‘irrisistable beauty‘ as a huge burden, complaining about how gorgeous she is, & how people just can’t *help* but want to approach her.
I remember in highschool the fitness school was various cardio, body building exercise, and bookwork. At this moment, I have the choice of scheduling sometimes a weight training class or a personal fitness class. What is a a college level personal fitness category? The study course description generally seems to beat for the bush. I just smoking after 8 years so if it will need a great deal of running I do believe I may avoid it. Thankyou.
