Pippa Middleton has the “most desired” skin color in the UK

This is one of the most ridiculous things I’ve ever heard. It’s a perfect complement to yesterday’s Frieda Pinto story, where Freida discussed – rather well – Indian obsession with fair or white skin. Many commenters had an interesting discussion about how the “light skin” obsession has taken root in cultures where the people tend to have naturally darker skin. On the other side, in cultures where people are known for being extremely pale, it’s become an obsession to fry or dye yourself into orange oblivion. Such is the case in the UK, from what I gather. There was a poll conducted (the Brits love their polls) as to who had the most “sought after” and “desirable” skin color. The winner? Neon orange Pippa Middleton. For real.

Move over Snooki — there’s a new show-stopping tan gal in town! First Pippa Middleton’s backside inspired a new butt-lifting surgery in the U.K., and now her healthy skin tone is getting some attention as well.

Dubbed “Royal Mocha” by tanning experts, Middleton’s tan has been voted as the most sought-after skin color, according to a U.K.-based poll which surveyed over 2,000 British women between the ages of 18 and 44. The research was done to mark the launch of British TV channel Really on Freeview.

Ringing in with 60 percent of votes, Middleton’s complexion beat out British songwriter Cheryl Cole’s “Cappuccino” color and TV personality Katie Price’s “Pricey Pecan” glow.

It’s been reported that Middleton, 27, turns to Xen-Tan self-tanning products to help achieve her healthy glow, but her outdoor runs probably contribute to her tan as well.

[From Us Weekly]

Pippa’s competition was Beef Jerky (Katie Price) and Makeup Shovel (Cheryl Cole)? Good God. Still, giving a Middleton girl an award for her skin is like giving LeAnn Rimes an award for eating. You really have better options, that’s what I’m saying. Both Kate and Pippa… well, it’s not that they have BAD skin, per se. They just don’t look youthful. Part of it is the way they dress, but another part of it is their skin, which tends to look leathery. For Kate, I think it’s stress and smoking. For Pippa, it’s years of tanning, sun damage and fake tans. While I’m willing to give Pippa more credit than most, at her sister’s wedding, her skin color looked ridiculous. And she continues to be an unflattering shade of orange. I bet if she stopped with the fake tans and wore sunblock every day, she would look so much better.

We do love our polls! It’s all about the stats. But they’re kind of ridiculous. The only reason she won is because she’s at the forefront of people’s minds. You might as well ask people to think of someone with a tan.

You know what I’m loving, as a Brit? Franklin & Bash. Any MP Gosselaar news, or Breckin Meyer news for that matter, would be greatly appreciated.

  2. tiki says:

cheetoh is definitely my favorite skin tone. except for the occasional dorito coloring in the deep dark of winter when i need to bring the sunshine.

  3. cara says:

they had rachel weisz or kate winslet as OPTIONS and went with Pippa ??!?!?! eeeeeeeek

  4. Meadowlark says:

To be honest, I think it would have been ridiculous no matter who “won”. People need to get it out of their heads that there’s such a thing as an ideal skin color.

  5. Theuth says:

Why it’s so difficult to accept the fact that everybody has different colouring? Embrace your pale skin! Be proud of your caramel tone! Protect your natural frame!
Plus, artificial tanning always gives horrible results. If you really want to have a little colour, do it the natural way with sunscreen, it’s possible.

  6. embertine says:

OK, the Daily Mail is paid by syndication companies to publish “research” that is sponsored by whoever is sponsoring the TV show, in this case, ‘Really’.

The “research” is usually faked; a survey is done, often in a lad’s mag or something like that, and then if the results don’t come out how they want they just publish false results anyway.

Read Ben Goldacre’s Bad Science if you want to see how meaningful this so-called “scientific research” is. I very much doubt that the majority of women in the UK want to look like beef jerky by the time they’re 25.

  7. Phoenix says:

I can totally believe this. A lot of my friends are this kind of shade. Most girls/guys I know have been sun bedding or take tanning since about 15. Orange hands! Ugh. I’m really pale and don’t tan and can’t be bothered to have a fake tan more than once every year or so but I’ve been urged to use a sun bed by professionals (tanning woman at my gym and a woman in the hairdresser for example) on multiple occasions. I don’t get it. Most people look better with a bit of colour, but with my skin I’d be stupid to do it, the risks of skin cancer would be too high.

  8. The Truth Fairy says:

    THIS CHICK IS SOOOOOOOO UGLY!!!!

  9. Cherry says:

@3 (sorry, can’t read your name): No, actually, they did not have rachel weisz or kate winslet as options, it was either Pippa or the likes of Cheryl Cole, Katie Price and/or Kerry Katona, who all look considerably worse in color than Pippa. Look, I’m not saying that Pippa’s orange glow at the Royal Wedding wasn’t overdone, but if I had to choose, I would also rather look like Pippa than either one of the other competitors. So there’s the significance of this poll for you.

  10. gee says:

    @Meadowlark, Agreed x10000000000

Am I the only person that see’s Amy Sedaris when I look at Pippa Middleton? Same face.

  11. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

Her skin color matches her personality, beige.

@Kaiser, can we talk about the rumor that this bland bitch is getting her own show?

  12. Jenny says:

Why am I not surprised that the only options were people with fake tans, but no skin tones from people of color.

  13. Cherry says:

@12. Jenny But that wasn’t the point! It was merely a stupid poll to choose which ‘celebrity’ has the most desirable fake tan! This isn’t about race!

  14. jesikabelcher says:

@#5 – I had to read your post 3 times to make sure you didnt say camel toe.. lol

  15. CT says:

    Wait a minute.

    Kate SMOKES?! Is this true?!

(Yes, that’s all I care about in relation to this topic.)

  16. Ell says:

Just want to speak up for the rest of the female population in the uk, we’re not all into the ‘you’ve been tangoed’ look, many of us our happy with our natural colouring.

My mother had skin cancer so I avoid the sun and don’t feel the need to orange-up, fake tan is stuffed with chemicals which is absorbed in to the body and does god knows what harm.

  17. Eleonor says:

If you want to look like an old orange bag Pippa Middleton is perfect.

  18. Princess Lizabeth says:

Famous sister aside, I really just don’t understand why Pippa has become such a poster girl; she is not attractive, IMHO. She has a very hard look about her.

  19. spinner says:

    ORANGE!!! Oh Boy…my favorite!!

  20. silken_floss says:

I love her green and blue polka dot dress!! Does anyone know who the designer is? (not that I could afford it anyways lol) 😀

  21. Calli Pygian says:

    Red dress shot:

Shoes, bag & FOREHEAD nearly identical colors. Just sayin’.

  22. Suzie says:

I think Pippa’s skin colour (as diplayed in the above photos) looks quite a nice even colour, not orange at all. The nicest tone is reflected in the photo of her wearing the green dress, a sort of peachy colour, but very natural looking.

  23. Hibiscus says:

Maybe excessive tanning is one of the reasons why the Middleton sisters look way older than they are. Sun damage ages you.

However, the red-faced guy in the red-dress-shot should REALLY stay away from the sun! 😀

  24. John Wayne Lives says:

@ The Truth Fairy.. I know right? I just don’t get what the deal is with this girl. But her backside really did look amazing in that bridesmaids dress, I have to add. But pretty? Not so much.
    And the orange kills it.

  25. The Original Ashley says:

The funny thing about Pippa is that she doesn’t really need to tan or fake tan that much. She’s not an English rose, unlike most [native] British girls she has olive undertones instead of pink. It’s clear that somewhere in that family dark skin came from someone and Pippa and her brother James both have it. All she needs is a little sunblock and sun like 30 minutes and she’ll come out with a healthy golden glow. Instead she slatters on the fake tan and she looks ridiculous. And then it looks like she tans on top of that? She definitely has some not found in nature skin color.

  26. Sanka says:

When I lived in Britain I saw quite a lot of extremely pale people, similar to cadavers. I quite like Pippa’s skin tone (especially compared to the others noted in the poll). If she had her natural coloring with the white bridesmaid dress, people would have whined about that. “She’s whiter than the dress!”…and that sort of thing. You can’t win.

  27. It is ME!! says:

Thank you The Truth Fairy and John Wayne Lives, for saying what I have been saying about BOTH sisters for quite sometime. They are not even the prettiest in the royal family (that crown goes to Queen of the Real and newlywed Zara), let alone in all the UK. I am 32, and look more baby-faced than these two.

And I don’t know of a single guy who thinks Pippa’s ass is anything special. She has no butt. Walk around Spanish Harlem, and you will see some incredible rear ends.

  28. Pyewacket says:

I think she is hideously ugly and she looks like a damn pumpkin she is so orange. If that is what people desire to look like- BLAH!

  29. Luise says:

    A broiled skinned monkey.

  30. MissVJJ says:

She is so pretty. I love her style too. When I lived in England, I turned pale as hell too. And Im naturally tan, Honduran descent. There’s no sun there EVER. I agree with the ‘who cares about skin color’ folks. Anything that makes people unhappy with the way they look is a way to keep them spending money and not worrying about more important things in life.

  31. Mrs.Krabapple says:

My god, that girl looks OLD! As in over-40 old. I’d hate to see what she looks like when she actually reaches 40. Yikes!

But at least she’s getting her money’s worth out of her P.R. firm. They managed to convince young girls and followers of reality shows that this person is somehow relevant, when she’s anything but. So kudos to her PR firm.

  32. penguin says:

we do get sun in Britain. its like 80 degrees today has been all week.

  33. Fox says:

When you put her picture beside Demi Moore’s article, they look nearly identical. Wow.

  34. blu_planet says:

I think both she and her sister look older than their ages, maybe due to their love of tanning. I have a sense they will not age well.

  35. UKHels says:

well she doesn’t have the most desired eyebrows – I can assure you of that!!

  36. ohso says:

I wish people would stop giving her so much shine. She is just not cute. Stop it. Does not matter what skin color she is. Her facial features are not the business.

    But her sister is pretty.

  37. gg says:

“Pippa’s competition was Beef Jerky (Katie Price) and Makeup Shovel (Cheryl Cole)? Good God”

ROTFL! This exposes the sad state the UK is in, as far as young girls thinking what looks good. jeeze. Somebody call a stop to it, please!

  38. Erin says:

She looks nasty (her skin complexion). Her body frame is small and she is just naturally that way so she looks good there but her skin just looks icky.

  39. Therese says:

In looking at photos of Pippa on the balcony with the royal family after the wedding, there was one shot in particular that was stunning to me in that instantly I thought of her resemblance to Wallis Simpson; at least in that particular shot. I’ve not heard anyone else who has come up with this comparison, but I think the resemblance is striking. Too bad Madonna’s movie is already made. Were Pippa to be redone in retro fashion, I think many would see the resemblance. I don’t think the resemblance stops just at the outside level. No, I don’t think she looks young or fresh. On Lainey’s Gossip, the expression Lainey had heard was that she had been passed around as many times as a joint at a Regae concert in trying to find her a rich and/or titled connection. I’m just not impressed with her.

  40. candice says:

    Jealous are you!!

  41. Chrissy says:

Well, most Brits also don’t mind messed up teeth sooooo…..;0) (Just teasing!! I love all things England.)

  42. Cherry Rose says:

Pippa knows that in a year everyone is going to forget about her, so she’s getting all the publicity she can right now.

I agree with other posters. She’s extremely plain and has no figure whatsoever. I don’t think Kate is that pretty, but she’s certainly better looking than Pippa.

  43. belindaya says:

People are crazy !!The ideal skin tone is your natural skin tone .I m dark brown and never wanted to change it.I like myself better in summer because in winter , with the lack of sun, my skin tend to be a mix of yellow and brown patches …But i embrass it , i know i ll be paler in winter and darker in summer , it’s natural.
I suspect being orange is not…
The only thing is to be healthy: dont avoid the sun to much ( human beings need to be exposed to the sun for health reason and it s gooood for the moral ), don’t “over expose” to UV( you don’t need to get burnt, do you ?) and never bleach yourself( human beings are not t shirts !!) .
One of my best friends , who is milky white , came home once as red as a boiled lobster because she wanted to be as dark as me ….My reaction ? WTF??!!
