Miley Cyrus is being mentioned for the ‘Dirty Dancing’ remake

fp_7738600_fpp_giftparty_brentwood_30_41

Yesterday, there was a “swag party” event which drew out some celebrity women. Let’s just say this: the swag party got a better turnout than the Do Something Awards. That speaks volumes. Some of the celebrities who there just to take home bags of free crap included Emma Roberts, Jamie Pressly, Kristen Bell, Cher (?!?!), Hailee Steinfeld and Zoe Saldana. And of course, Miley Cyrus, who looked clean and pretty and de-bloated. She’s lost some weight, right? Or she just gave up the liquor on a regular basis.

Did you read Lainey’s defense of Miley last week? I really enjoyed it, and I agree, although I tend to give Miley more of the benefit of the doubt than some. If you read her interviews and her Twitter feed, it’s clear that while Miley isn’t the most eloquent or mature young woman, she’s trying. She’s smarter than most of the young child stars, she’s trying to take control of her own image, her own career, and move beyond the also-ran status of Disney stardom. She’s keeping a lower profile for the most part this year, and she’s back with Liam Hemsworth. It feels like she’s making the effort to do some growing up outside of the public eye, and I do think she should be applauded for it. And quite honestly, if I’m given a choice between Miley and many of her contemporaries, like Emma Roberts, I’m going to choose Miley. She’s more interesting, and she has more to say about everything.

However, I do have some bad news. Miley’s name is being mentioned for the remake of Dirty Dancing. Like, Miley could play Baby. To, like, Justin Timberlake’s Johnny Castle. Ugh. Go here to read about some of the casting rumors.

Yet another reason why I would never see this remake. Can’t Miley go away for about 20 years and learn to count her money?

Is nothing sacred anymore? Has Hollywood run out of ideas? And seriously, Justin Timberlake and Miley Cyrus for this remake?

There really and honestly is absolutely no way anyone is going to like the Dirty Dancing remake anyway…so does it really matter who they cast? I say get that money, Miley :)

This is awful news. I was so upset when I heard they were planning a remake. I watched the movie yesterday and it is just perfect the way it is. Miley and Justin will just ruin the movie that is already doomed from the start. I do not know one person who is happy about a Dirty Dancing remake. I am very upset… what a wonderful way to start my Monday.

I haven’t even read the blurb yet, but:

In the name of all that is holy, noooooooooooo!!!

EDIT: Now I have read it and . . . Justin Timberlake? Are you kidding me? He’s got the sexuality of a retaining wall. And what the hell does Miley have on her feet? Sox and booties?

Ick. Miley’s voice is grating on my ears. I don’t need to hear her wailing through this remake, which shouldn’t be happening in the first place.
On a positive note, she looks great without those awful hair extensions.

Miley can look sooo cute when she puts herslef together!

As for the Dirty Dancing shenanigans.. No one is going to watch that crap. It’s not going to be better than the first, so honestly, I don’t care WHOs in it. It’s always just going to be the embaressing remake.

There will be a remake of Dirty Dancing. The choreographer from the original movie, Kenny Ortega, was on the final week of So You Think You Can Dance. On the finale he announced that he was going to be directing the remake. When he was talking about this he alluded to using Melanie (the season’s winner) in the movie and it was my hope that he would cast her as Baby; she would be sooooo Awesome!! Much better than Miley, I’m sure.

  15. Elisha says:

Baby was a woman who just didn’t know it, yet. Miley might be of age (legally) but she doesn’t give me the adult vibe. She still has baby fat on her face, she looks, not to mention acts, like a little girl. Any sex or intimate scene with her would make me feel uncomfortable.

  18. WYIJM says:

They are making the DD remake for an audience that wasn’t even born yet when the original came out. Kids today wouldn’t care about the original movie – everybody here shouting how a remake will be rubbish is, of course, right, but probably also close to 40.

  21. Dani says:

Jennifer G. worked in that role because she wasn’t the typical beauty. She was unique, her nose included which she later changed and it ruined her career. But I digress. At the beginning of the movie you didn’t find her particularly attractive but as the movie went on, you could see her beauty. That is something you can’t recreate. Miley in that role will never work. People know too much about her and she doesn’t have the acting chops to pull it off. There is no way I can view her as an innocent. I remember all those slutty pictures of her on the internet. Nope never going to buy it.

Agree with above posters nothing is sacred and hollywood should be renamed hollywornout – you’re right wyijm but the only – only – good that could come out of this is if more teens and twentysomethings were led to watch the original. and the fact that anyone in hollywornout believes that chipmunk face is an “actress” says all you need to know about today’s hollywood.

Seriously! Apparently there is nothing sacred In Hollywood which officially has no ideas to justify keeping all these actors working or relevant. Nothing against Miley, but this is just a horrible idea. Justin Timberlake can dance now? Spare me this mess!

While I cosign everyone’s big, fat HELL TO THE NO at this remake (for the record, I am 26. You don’t have to be “in your 40s” in recognize a bad idea when you see one), I do think you guys are being a little too hard on Miley. Sure, she’s a terrible actress. But, to be honest, some of her music isn’t so bad.

YES! Throw stones at me if you must, but I would venture to say that Miley’s voice is actually a little bit better than, say, Ke$ha or Katy Perry. I know, that’s not comparing her with much. But, I think she could grow into being a musician who is at least occasionally inoffensive to my ears.

Also, I think she’s cute. Beautiful? Now, that’s pushing it. But, I certainly don’t think she’s as unfortunate looking as some people here do. As Kaiser says, I think she’s trying, and that makes me cut her some slack.

I’m not a Miley fan, but I was thinking when I saw the pictures that she’s looking pretty, and her legs are amazing. She has a cute, funky trailer park-cowgirl style – sometimes she goes a little too trailer park, but she does have her own look. I like the booties but it’s kind of a weird pairing w/ the dress in the day in the summer.

This is so wrong on some many levels. Why can’t Hollywood come up with original ideas rather than re-hashing a classic film. Dirty Dancing will forever been a touchstone in my young adult life. Doing a remake is just WRONG WRONG WRONG!

This is my #1 favorite movie and has been since I was like 12, now I’m 26 and watch it every couple of months and still enjoy watching it.

There should NOT be a remake!!! I almost cried when I saw Justin Bebe’s name thrown out there…the only person I could see would be Zac Efron because he looks like a young Patrick Swayze and has a nice body and he looks like a man now since he’s working out more. Definitely do not use miley, selena, lea or any of those over rated actors. I can’t think of anyone who could play her actually because this movie doesn’t need to be destroyed by Hollywood
