When Angelina Jolie visited Croatia a few days ago, she took a meeting with the president of the country, allegedly at his request. The president wanted to ask for Angelina’s help with their on-going landmine problem. Angelina has some history with the cause of landmine removal – in her extensive Cambodian property, Angelina has had to spend the money to have hundreds of acres de-mined (and the property is part of a nature preserve now). Also, Angelina met with de-mining groups years ago, in Angola, as part of her UNHCR work. Anyway, after her visit to Croatia, Angelina went back to Scotland (where she and her family are staying for Brad’s film schedule), and she went to the headquarters of HALO Trust, one of the leading anti-landmine and de-mining non-profits around.

She and Brad Pitt have been long-term supporters of HALO, and visited our projects in a number of mine-impacted countries. Their financial support to HALO has run to many hundreds of thousands of pounds, funding humanitarian mineclearance teams in Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Kosovo and Afghanistan. This was her first visit to the HQ, and was a chance for a global briefing by senior HALO staff on the current landmine problem.
Guy Willoughby, co-founder and Director of the Trust, said:
It was a great opportunity for us to talk through the projects and also plan our demining priorities for the future – identifying which communities in different countries are most in need of our support.Angelina Jolie said:

If the organization sounds familiar, it’s because Princess Diana did a lot of work with HALO in the last year of her life, and Prince Harry has followed in his mother’s footsteps. There’s also a claim that Brad and Angelina has donated “hundreds of thousands of pounds” to HALO through the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

Okay. So she visited. What happens now. I know the old ” x will bring publicity to the problem…”. Okay, now what. What exactly will publicity do? Everyone knows about landmines, just like everyone knows about the famine in Africa. At the end of the day, the celebrity gets more publicity and benefits than the charity.
To me this visit reads like a typical visit by a donor to his or her charitable organization. Apparently the Jolie-Pitt Foundation contributes sums to HALO and they (while she was in the vicinity owing to WWZ) invited her to see their headquarters and briefed her about what her money is helping to accomplish.
Very nice but nothing extraordinary. In other words, I don’t think the visit is something to watch or set expectations by. I would imagine she enjoyed hearing more detailed (and tailored) info about their work.

yes- helping charity is a bad idea, especially if you are Angelina. She would be better liked if she went clubbing, wore nicer clothes, went to fashion shows and spent her down time tanning. It seems that helping people and spending her & Brad’s money on those in need is MORE IMPORTANT than being liked- what a horrible person she is.

She’s been working with them since 2001. That’s 10 years of collaboration. Of course being nearby she paid them a visit.
It’s not her who publicize that, it’s all those paps and bloggers who report her every move, be it HALO visit or walking in the garden with Brad or shopping with kids or invented “behind the closed doors” stories when nothing else is available.
What a post full of lies and myths, Anonymous. Angelina has never been a homewrecker and the facts bear this out. This is no longer in question. Also she never ‘tongued’ her brother and she also has never been a former junkie. All of these myths were debunked long ago. Repeating them ad nauseum will never make any of these myths and lies any more true. Also, I hardly think someone who is asked to meet with people like Mandela and various Presidents and Prime Ministers is irrelevant or uninspiring. On the contrary she is a role model for many young people out there, and probably the only if not one of the rare role models in Hollywood. Deal with get past your own inadequacy and jealousy she makes you feel. I feel sorry for you.

I find it hard to believe HorsePoorHanna that anyone still believes in the hoax of an affair anymore when we now know there was no affair, Angelina never hurt anyone. Some people truly are so gullible and brainwashed by the tabloids and really want to believe the worst in people in stead of giving them the benefit of the doubt, and innocence until proven guilty, and all that. I love waiting and watching what she delivers next. They have donated money for years. This visit was Saturday and already poeple are complaining about what good will it do. Heck, If YOU donated money it would take longer than a couple of days to materialize. Just sit back and enjoy. Her heart is in the right place and only good can come from it.
BTW, her movie does not come out until December 23, so don’t bother to go there. In the meantime, she will have done many other good things. Wait and see. Try to be pleased and excited while you are waiting, as it makes it a whole lot easier to swallow than all that haterade you’ve been guzzling down and choking on.

If she did break up Brad and Jennifer’s marriage that is between the three of them. Obviously Jennifer has moved on with her life.

@Mag, I just went and donated to HALO, that’s what her visit did. I didn’t know about the organization before, and so I followed the link, read about them, and donated. I’m certain I am not the only person to have done so.
You know, I understand skepticism, snarkiness, and bitchiness, I really do. I could routinely describe myself with all three adjectives. But cynicism really gets me. Cynicism is a big reason why the world is so f*cked. Angelina goes and visits a charity that stops people from being freaking blown up by landmines, and brings publicity and donations to the cause, and somehow cynicism takes over and it becomes a bad thing. Why not just say something nice, or better yet, donate a few dollars to help save a life? I guess it’s just easier to be the armchair cynic, isn’t it?

@anon she kissed her brother on the mouth and held it there a little too long that’s not the same as making out with him. She did drugs when she was young- so did the last 3 presidents of the US. You actually have not mentioned something she’s done recently. Even the alleged homewrecking is seven years ago. No. What’s silly and creepy are people who make comments when they don’t know what they are talking about. Solving issues around the globe takes an interdisciplinary team of experts and doers. A vital part of every team includes those who know how to get attention for the project as well as those who know how to access money and resources. There are many aspects to such projects which require a multitude of skills and experiences.
No one is suggesting that Angelina is a demining technician. But her expertise in fundraising, in diplomacy, in international relations, as well as her very valuable wide network of high powered and moneyed people can advance almost any cause with which she may choose to become involved.

This year Cambodia is taking over the Presidency of the Anti‐Personnel Mine Ban Convention which addresses the landmines issue in 29 countries when it hosts the actual convention in late November and Angelina is particpating – and most likely assisting with its funding.

Actually those words say more about you then any of the hate filled rants that you’ve posted.
Love the Jolie Pitts. Their commitment to humanitarian work is admirable.
The paps know they can make a fortune on pictures of anything Jolie/Pitt should not reflect on them. They hardly need the publicity. Their work both professionally and personally speaks for itself.
I do wish she would use a little powder now and again to counterbalance all of the moisturizing she does. She’s lovely, but soooo shiiiiiny.
Angie’s money ,time and attention has benefitted so many people in poor countries and saved lives, how can anyone ‘hate’ someone like that?

As an Angie diehard fan I must say this:
Why must her celebrity diqualify her from doing some good in the world?
Being an African living in Africa, I can say that there are people who live in areas that don’t have access to running water never mind tv’s and movie theaters, they don’t have a cooking clue who Angelina Jolie is, but her money and awareness benefits these people.
So it gets her more fame in the process. SO WHAT! Rather her who is doing some good and people can commend her, then someone who doesn’t care about anyone other than themselve but makes movies.
Like I said, I’m not criticizing Angelina, I think she means well and what she’s doing is great. But you people are definitely exaggerating her role and importance. She can bring attention, she can make a donation but if you thing that some foreign organization will come to Croatia to solve the problems with mines because of Angelina, come on. Like Halo Trust or whoever doesn’t already know where’s the problem and how to solve it.

She is indeed more powerful than that. She is well-respected by Nelson Mandela. She mixes with Presidents, Official Diplomats from around the world. I think the problem is, you don’t seem to understand how deep Angelina is in this. You think she is just a celeb.
