Madonna in Venice, jacked in Vionnet: lovely or cheap-looking?

wenn3489749

For last night’s red carpet premiere of W.E. at the Venice Film Festival, Madonna once again played with her sunglasses, taking them on and off for the photographers, as if she secretly knows that her face is crazy. Still, it was Madonna’s night, and she was by far the most photographed woman on the red carpet, not her two female leads in the film, Abbie Cornish and Andrea Riseborough. Madge wore Vionnet, and I really, really dislike it. I’m sure the dress is probably silk, but when it’s photographed, it looks like t-shirt material, like cotton jersey. I also dislike the red appliqué/print on top of grey – to me, it looks cheap. And there’s this too:

Yeah. Poor Madge. The rest of the fashion – Andrea wore an odd pale yellow Christian Dior, and Abbie wore Versace. I dislike their dresses too! I think Andrea is a very pretty/unusual-looking young actress – she’s got that Meryl Streep quality, where she can either look completely gorgeous or completely plain. Abbie just looks… meh. She’s so milquetoast to me. Can we talk about my lover James D’Arcy? I’m lusting after him while I wait for Michael Fassbender photos (TODAY, bitches!). But James is hot on his own too – and after going through all of the photos, I kind of think James and Andrea are hitting it. That’s kind of hot.

WOW, suddenly I feel old. I remember when she was just a girl!

  2. mimi says:

I actually love her in this and I think that she looks super pretty…unlike yesterday’s pics….THOSE were horrible. This, this I love.

  3. melissa says:

She is just odd looking. I would have bet with the excellent skincare products available to her all these years and about 10 extra lbs, she would have aged beautifully. Sad. And that dress? One word. Unfortunate.

  4. tapioca says:

She looks just like she did in Desperately Seeking Susan in the top pic with the sunglasses! The dress shouldn’t work, but somehow does – like a fried egg chilli chutney sandwich. I approve.

Abbie Cornish’s dress, on the other hand, is horrible; I just hope she doesn’t go anywhere near a naked flame.

  5. the original bellaluna says:

    Still a face-bloated Kirsten Dunst.

  6. DetRiotgirl says:

I kind of love this look on her, especially with the glasses. They’re something really off about her eyes. So, not being able to see them definitely helps.

  7. DenG says:

She still looks like a 60+ year old trying to appear 40 or younger. Shame.

  8. Lane says:

Blind Item about Madonna and her jealousy of her lead actress:

    —————
Which female director not really known for directing dislikes her most recent lead actress so much that she refuses to speak with her unless forced to by the circumstance. Turns out the lead actor had a thing for the actress and not the director, and the director was and is still ticked off about it.

  9. vic says:

People are right. She would have looked better just aging naturally. Lots of actresses look better at her age and she’s worked so hard. Sad, really.

  10. velourazure says:

all those dresses together are a big old mess. they should have coordinated better.

and that’s the best madge could do with her hair?

  11. Calli Pygian says:

She looks a bit like “Madame” the puppet in the open mouth picture.

  12. Jayna says:

I love her look on the red carpet. Different but it really works. And I love her hair.

  13. WYIJM says:

Don’t care about Madge, but I love that dress. I want that dress!

  14. Eve says:

    @ Kaiser:

Can we talk about my lover James D’Arcy? I’m lusting after him while I wait for Michael Fassbender photos (TODAY, bitches!).

Any chances of posting a picture of my forever dong? He’s there for Lou Ye’s movie “Love and Bruises”.

But James is hot on his own too – and after going through all of the photos, I kind of think James and Andrea are hitting it. That’s kind of hot.

You love you some rat-faced bastards. Gahhh!

  15. Annie says:

I like it except for the overagressive facelift that is. Madge, please stop while you’re still at least somewhat ahead.

  16. NYC_girl says:

I was just starting high school when her first album came out. I loved her. She could have aged gracefully and made a statement but she’s ruined her face. She obviously can’t move her forehead. @Calli – totally right!!!

  17. gee says:

I think she actually looks really, really good. The best she has since the late 90s. I like the dress, hair, makeup, and the face and arms look better than they’ve looked in a long time.

  18. junk573r says:

Why does she look so peachfuzzy? Is that what happens when someone uses botox or whatever she’s doing to her face? It’s been years now that she looks like she has a fine coat of fur all over her face. I don’t understand why.

  19. jesikabelcher says:

I like the dress.. her glasses are crooked in the first pic… anyone else see that??

  20. Waldemar says:

She looks fantastic and very happy.

  21. LadyJane says:

I like M’s dress but the face is really looking rough these days. It is a pity – I agree she looks way beyond 50 up close.

  22. Roxy750 says:

I love it, she looks her age, and she should be proud. She has done so much in her life so far. She’s horribly beautiful

  23. Nev says:

So true Calli, I remember the puppet Madame. Madge and Madame could be twins. I thought Madame the puppet was hilarious. Madge’s face is so unfortunate looking and it’s all down hill here on out.

  24. annaloo says:

Awww… I love her with the sunglasses… totally takes me back to her Papa Don’t Preach days…

Oh Madonna… I still love you!

  25. Alix says:

    Keep the shades on, Madge…

  26. TQB says:

Honestly, she not only looks weird and jacked, but she’s also starting to resemble Hillary Clinton. And although I worship Hillary, but I don’t intend that as a compliment.

  27. k says:

Speaking as a person who wears way too much black, M looks so much better with a little color near her face.

  28. Cirque28 says:

Having a bit of heaviness in the eyelid and browbone area is becoming a sign of youth in Hollywood! The old people are mostly all perma-surprised now.

  29. carrie says:

i like Madonna’s dress,i dislike Abbie Cornish’s dress(too dark for her) and Andrea ‘s hair color

  30. danielle says:

I love the dress! The sunglasses help with the face too. I think she’d be SO much better looking if she hadn’t messed with her face so much. Come on people – trying to hold on to your lost youth is so pathetic!!!

  31. Amanda says:

The worst thing with Madonna, I think, is the cheekbones. They remind me of Joan Rivers. Maybe if she reduced them a bit, it wouldn’t be so bad.

  32. Mitch Buchanan Rocks says:

I think Madonna is looking really good, more weight which fills out her face and figure and not so gristly. I was going to comment on her dating the young dudes at her age but she did date old warren beatty when she was young. She does have a fascinating relationship history.

    http://www.thefrisky.com/post/246-madonna-dating-timeline/

  33. Turtle Dove says:

I actually like Madonna’s gown. I love the color and the red butterflies are an interesting contrast. Agreeing with the positive comments about her weight. She looks far more shapely now and better in that respect.

  34. oklady says:

Where is her nose going in that up-close pic?
    BTW…Oscar Isaac is lookin HAWT!!

  35. 4Real says:

What is with the stretchy streaks across her face?? Is that a normal facelift side effect? She just shouldn’t look this old yet…it’s weird!

  36. LeeLoo says:

It’s official: Madonna no longer looks human. She really needs to lay off the plastic surgery. It’s time for her to age gracefully, the plasic surgery is no longer doing her any good.

  37. Darlene says:

I totally believe that blind item.

  38. gab says:

I am the same age as Madonna. A couple of years ago – I think it was before she bought her new puffy cheeks, I thought she was so lovely. Her skin was beautiful, her eyes, etc. But with those “Madame” cheeks, oh so sad! I am convinced that she would look younger now if she hadn’t messed with her face at all. Her ego will be her undoing whether we are talking about her face or her relationships. And it is just sad.

  39. gab says:

Oh forgot to add: the guy on the far left in group pic? Not sure who he is, but totally looks like a young Anthony Perkins to me. Anyone see it? 🙂

  40. Daisy424 says:

    Trying too hard………

  41. Judy says:

Ha, when I saw the caption, I thought it was Faye Dunaway!

  42. Onyx XV says:

She must be laying off the fillers, because on the one hand she’s not looking as puffy as she has in recent years, but on the other hand, with those wrinkles around her eyes, she’s starting to look old.

  43. Wif says:

I love the dress. It’s unusual.

  44. BELLA says:

SHE NEVER ,EVER LOOKS PUT TOGETHER!
RAGGY,OR OVER DONE .TIME TO STEP ASIDE.

  45. BELLA says:

THAT S PERFECT !!!! A CROSS BETWEEN JOAN RIVERS AND FAYE DUNAWAY!!!!!THATS IT !!!!!! THAN-YOU PEOPLE!!!!!!!

  46. BELLA says:

HER TEETH ARE NOT CUTE ANYMORE..THEY NEVER WERE.

  47. e.non says:

love the dress; and the extreme exercising is fine — but so bummed that she’s slicing and dicing herself like this.

which reminds me — sunset blvd is playing on tcm tomorrow nite.. 😉

  48. Nev says:

these photos have terrible lighting…it looks like she has layed off the fillers…perhaps she is going au natural after-all…either way she rules.
    still.

  49. Jayna says:

@Gab, I’m with you. She was lovely looking several years back and the cheek Implants make her look older, not younger. Doctors and their latest thing and women fall for it.

  50. Bill Hicks is God says:

I like the dress and her hair is great. The lipstick on the other hand is an old-lady-wearing-red fail. It’s terribly applied and I’m surprised most of it didn’t end up on her teeth.

  51. Ron says:

Love the dress, age approriate and quite elegant. Again, hair and make-up are bad.

  52. Denise says:

Madge is ready for her close-up; she looks like Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard.

  53. Lauren says:

Madonna is a brilliant businesswomen..however her plastic surgery is unnecessary. I still love Madge, but all this disfigurement brings me infinite sorrow. No matter how wealthy or successful a women is, somehow youth is still the ultimate goal. Fake youth is ugly, dignified maturity is beautiful.

  54. Catherine says:

The dress is pretty. Why can’t she just age gracefully instead of making her self look old AND plastic? Not good.

  55. Sassy says:

Just read the reviews for W.E. They are all over the place. However, I must see it due to the authentic settings and fashions of the era. The Guardian was particularly scathing, Daily Mail liked it.

  56. Bobby the K says:

Looks like she stood too close to a machete fight.

Thankfully, she’s not pushing her sex life on us any more.

  57. Blithe says:

About a year ago, I thought Madge looked terrific. She looked really young and fresh. Obviously, it was because she was jacking up her face, but it worked somehow. It looked good. She looks really old here. But I like the idea that maybe she’s just accepting the fact that she can be old and still be awesome. I hate that dress on Abbie Cornish. But…I really don’t like Cornish as an actress/person, so maybe thats what’s setting my eyes ablaze.

  58. Adrien says:

Even in 20 lifetimes, I would never achieve what Madge has achieved. Makes me sad why she wants to extend her glory days when she’s a super winner already.

  59. Jayna says:

I saw a clip of her arriving and walking down the red carpet in that dress. Live it’s even more stunning on her. The train is actually long, so more dramatic when walking. The fans were going crazy when she arrived and she really played to the crowd.

  60. skinanny says:

she is starting to look like Fay Dunaway

  61. Luise says:

    NORMA DESMOND FOR SURE!!!!!

  62. Trashaddict says:

This is retro 40s. I happen to like it. What the hell is she supposed to wear anyway? Have you looked at dresses for women in their 50s lately? You can choose between slutty, BORING matron, “Housewives of…” overly flashy, or what? At least she’s bringing out some original styles and they happen to fit her pretty well. And she accessorized this one properly. I think she had fun with this one and I hope she still doesn’t give a shit what anyone thinks.

  63. Mark says:

When I think of an aging beauty Sharon Stone looks really great and doesn’t look like she is jacked to hell.
I think Madonna looks a bit tweaked and the makeup is HARSH.

  64. Lalala says:

It’s been years now that she looks like she has a fine coat of fur all over her face. I don’t understand why.

It’s called lanugo and it’s a symptom of malnutrition. Doctors use lanugo as one way to diagnose anorexia. She’s just flat out not eating enough. If her face weren’t pumped full of fillers, you’d be able to see her skull.

  65. samab says:

    horrible dress with unflattering colour

  66. samab says:

and every time I see her I cannot take her seriously.I expect from a woman which claim to be strong and spiritually deep and all and bla bla bla a little more capacity of accepting time going and getting older without becoming a mask .Or dress yourself as a fool.
