Rachel Weisz’s AnOther Mag cover: hideous or fascinating?

rachel1

I think a great deal of Rachel Weisz’s beauty. I don’t think she’s been tweaked, plucked, sucked or tucked. I think she looks her age, but she looks GREAT for her age. I love her coloring, I love the way she carried herself, I love her hair. But I guess that I now have to admit that Rachel Weisz cannot pull off every look she attempts. This is Rachel’s cover shot for the new issue of AnOther Magazine, “The Dissidents Issue”. Rachel is put in the same league as Aung San Suu Kyi and Julian Assange… which… er…

Ordinarily, I would only cover this kind of off-beat magazine cover if I had the full photo shoot, or even some quotes from the interview. Not today – mostly because it’s a really boring gossip day, but also because this cover is unique enough to discuss. WHY would you put electric blue eye makeup on Rachel? Why would you make her look like a 1980s clown-face? Why would you make her hold a kangaroo goat? And why, with all of that going against her, does Rachel sort of pull it off? It’s amazing. She comes really close to making this work.

Meanwhile, Rachel and her new husband, Daniel Craig, are set to begin promoting their film, Dream House. I think the film looks really weird, but I’ll probably see it just to see whether Rachel and Daniel had any chemistry on-screen. How could they not? MTV recently sat down with Dream House producer Ehren Kruger, who spoke about Daniel and Rachel’s chemistry:

“Daniel’s a very intense person, and it comes across in his roles and on the screen. This is a character who, on the outside, seems like an everyman, a family man, but you come to find out he has a number of demons of his own. Daniel was really able to dig into those and pull off a very intense portrayal of a man trying to protect his family in nearly an impossible situation. It’s a very valiant performance from him. And the chemistry between him and Rachel, which is kind of the core of the film, is really great…. They are both very focused actors, so you just figured they were really committed to their performance of this married couple. There is method acting and I guess there is matrimonial method acting. But I wouldn’t say it was apparent during shooting. They were playing the roles as professional, and it went from there.”

[From MTV]

It really feels like Rachel and Daniel had a really intense affair during the production, while they were still with their partners, Satsuki and Darren. I think the affair got so hot, they didn’t want it to end, so they decided to take some time apart to end their respective relationships, and then they quickly returned to each other. *sigh*

Oh, and my mom thinks Rachel’s pregnant. I don’t know… I think Rachel’s definitely boning the hell out of Daniel every chance she can get. Hot.

Could they have made her look any worse??

  2. David says:

    I love this woman!!!

  3. Celebs.com says:

    Sorry, it’s awesome.

  4. Obvious says:

Isn’t that like a goat not a kangaroo??? I think it has hooves. that eye shadow does nothing for Rachel, and it’s a shame because she is absolutely gorgeous.

  5. kimi says:

You do know that Rachel is not the one who is making styling decisions when it comes to magazine photo shoots? Mag hires a stylist who has a theme or is being inspired by something or someone. The stylist calls all the shots when it comes to outfits. So you can’t blame Rachel W. or any other woman on the cover of a magazine for how she looks in the editorial.

  6. zephyr says:

Jeez, if AnOther is going to have some of the names on the cover in bold type then one of them should be Aung San Suu Kyi!

Am not sure if Rachel’s holding a joey (baby kangaroo) or a wallaby. Or….?
The makeup gives her an otherworldly look. Intriguing.

  7. k says:

I also think it’s a goat, and what about the BLOOD on the wall?

  8. islandgirl says:

Haha, I’m pretty sure that’s a kid goat. Which makes complete sense of course. A kangaroo would just be bizarre.

  9. Ell says:

    Rachel’s beauty is breathtaking.

  10. Glyrics says:

Hideous. Yuck. The goat reminded her of Craig while they were separated.

  11. Sue says:

Bad cover bad styling there is nothing I like but the baby goat.

  12. My Darling Pinkett says:

Actually, I like it. Don’t care for the goat ear near her mouth, but the rest of it is cool and edgy.

    She is so lovely…

  13. LadyJane says:

Love her. She can do no wrong in my eyes. A true beauty. A true artist. And definitely my “If I were a lesbian” shag – a threesome with her and Salma Hayak.

  14. Heather says:

She is so pretty, Why does she look like Ali Lohan in the header pic? O_o

  15. bros says:

um? she’s a good actress. but she isnt a modern day dissident. sorry. I cant believe they threw her in with those other people on the cover.

  16. silken_floss says:

    Never liked her.

  17. Mia says:

She might be pregnant. I doubt she is, though. She’s filming both Bourne Legacy and Oz: the Great & Powerful right now. I would think she wouldn’t have the energy during her 1st trimester to do that much work.

  18. Mario says:

I like her make up but it doesn’t really go with the rest of the photo.

  19. MJ says:

With the bloody wall, it looks like she’s about to do an animal sacrifice for the dark lord Beelzebub.

  20. Bad Fairy says:

For her age? What is she all of thirty five?

  21. loveyourwork says:

    she’s 41

  22. carrie says:

i remember MR&MS SMITH , all (true) rumors between Pitt&Jolie and their total lack of alchemy in the movie

  23. Lindsay says:

I would like to see their sex tape that only exists in my perverted mind. Yes indeedy.

  24. jover says:

What is a hollywood celeb doing on a cover re dissidents – hollywood is about as multi-national corporate establishment as you can get irrespective of the faux leftist views spouted by some of its denizens; and her legs don’t look good in the last pic; yet another argument for wearing hose/tights. She’s been on several covers lately; does she have a movie coming out?

  25. gee says:

I’m like in love with her. She’s so pretty.

@Kaiser, I think your mom should have like a column here. She has really interesting insight!

  26. mia135 says:

Why is she being called a dissident with the likes of Aung San Suu Kyi?

Why is the goat’s ear practically in her mouth?

  27. Twitter says:

She’s absolutely hot and I love her since first sight.

  28. Eve says:

She’s beautiful. She also used to be my # 1 crush…Angelina Jolie be damned for stealing me from her.

  29. Cleo says:

relaxed and rosy is the best way to style her – she’s a very Catherine Malandrino kind of girl.

  30. Delta Juliet says:

Kaiser….I love your theory on their relationship. That’s how I imagine it too. HOT! I’m so jealous. Love me some Daniel.

  31. taxi says:

Love Rachel. Hate the cover pic.

  32. She’s been a fav of mine since The Mummy.

  33. Jezi says:

Could you imagine them discussing how this photo shoot was going to go? “So Rachel, we’re going to put bright blue eye shadow on and you will be posing with a goat”…WTF???

  34. Kiki says:

I love her – and she always looks so real, like a real person, I mean. Not any of that Hollywood superficial glitter. There should be more actresses like her.

  35. mytbean says:

well… the animal she is carrying is a baby “capra ibex nubiana” – well recognized in the middle east… Jordan, Egypt, outskirts of Israel, etc…

And Rachel’s family history makes her concerned about human rights and governmental affairs.

So – maybe the artwork is meant to be a loose representation of the recent governmental upheaval by the Egyptian people for true democracy. (since they listed “Modern dissidents” as a subject line)

The blood on the wall kind fits with that theme.

    I dunno… maybe that’s all reaching… but that’s what I got from it.

  36. Novaraen says:

love her but this cover is really odd.

  37. Jilliterate says:

I feel like a blue eyeshadow apologist — I think it gets a bad rap because I’ve seen it on so many women who don’t know how to wear it properly, and it doesn’t suit their skintone. I’m ok with this look — it’s not exactly flattering on Weisz, but I enjoy the style of it anwyays. It reminds me of a look a Christian Dior model wore recently.

  38. LittleDeadGrrl says:

I know I’m a little weird but I almost like the styling. It pops out at you and she makes it looks strangely good and sexy.

  39. Erin says:

    i kind of love it

  40. marie says:

Now this gal is gorgeous. And she looks healthy.

  41. Bec says:

I can’t believe she looks like that and she’s 41! She’s stunning and graceful- she’s amazing. I don’t want to burst your bubble but I think she’s had botox in her forehead. Non? It wouldn’t change how I feel about her but I am just curious!
One of the things that doesn’t work for me is that the goat looks uncomfortable & awkward in her arms. Maybe the goat is comfortable but it doesn’t LOOK comfortable which makes this pic to me cringe inducing. I think the mag thought they wanted to make her edgy because you always see her as the English Rose and I don’t think they cared how bad it looked as long as it was a way you’ve never seen her.

  42. @ Bec says:

Rachel’s openly spoken out against botox, so I don’t think she’s had any.

  43. Lady D says:

@islandgirl, “Haha, I’m pretty sure that’s a kid goat. Which makes complete sense of course. A kangaroo would just be bizarre. ”
I have been up for more than 3 hours (its almost 8a.m.)I needed that laugh. Thank you.

  44. Camille says:

Well, I love the goat. That’s all I’ve got.

  45. Lindy says:

I like it, actually–I mean, it’s definitely aiming for artsy and avant-garde, rather than your average Cosmo/Seventeen magazine cover. I think it almost gets it, too.

I want to love Rachel/Daniel, but I think you’re right about the whole affair during filming thing, and that makes me a little bit ill.

  46. Andie B says:

She is stunning no matter what colour eyeshadow or what clothes are put on her. However, she does look like she is about to eat that poor little Billy Goat for lunch. Maybe gorgeous Dan could drop her in a BLT so she doesn’t have to do an animal sacrifice.

  47. theaPie says:

I think that that is a stunning photo.

  48. Tom says:

Modern Dissidents? Weisz? Give me a break. What has she ever done? She is just an actress, a pretty face among many that get paid to regurgitate words of writers. Dissident? Too funny.
