Jennifer Garner, pregnant in Yves Saint Laurent: too sack-like or lovely?

I used to really like and admire Jennifer Garner. This became a minor issue between Kaiser and me because she finds Garner understandably annoying. Then I saw the totally unnecessary remake of Arthur, in which Garner starred. (It was on a plane, and I was in the cheap seats so it’s not like I had my choice of films.) Garner’s Susan character was incredibly obnoxious, and she played it straight so that you had no sense of sympathy for her whatsoever. This is in comparison to the parts played by Helen Mirren and Russell Brand, who did the best they could with the material. So does that make Garner a great actress or a not-so-likable one? I don’t know, but she bugged me like she was supposed to, and then Garner the person said some kind of clueless stuff about motherhood being a woman’s greatest want. After that I was like “meh, I get what Kaiser is saying.” I still like Garner, but she’s like Reese Witherspoon to me now. I can see how hard she tries to sell her image, even if it’s not so far from reality.

Anyway Garner is pregnant, and we don’t know how far along she is but she made the announcement about three weeks ago, so it’s three or four months by now probably. This will be her third child with husband Ben Affleck, and they said in the announcement they’re of course “thrilled” to have another one. There’s a lot of talk that they’re hoping for a boy after two girls, but I’m sure that whatever gender baby they have they’ll still be overjoyed.

Garner is shown here Saturday at the Pink Party to raise money for Cedars-Sinai Women’s Cancer Program. She was the host at the event. Her dress is kind of sack-like, but I get that she’s pregnant and wants to feel comfortable. I’m not a fan of YSL’s ready to wear line, after having just looked through their insanely expensive clothing on the Neiman Marcus website and their website. I prefer empire waist gowns on pregnant ladies, but they get a pass always so I’ll try not to nitpick. The dark pink reddish color is beautiful and I love her hair and makeup. She matched her lipstick to the color of her dress and it doesn’t look too matchy, just perfect. She’s really lovely here. I still like her, but I’m not a big fan anymore, you know?

I agree, sack like, but gets a pass and the lipstick/makeup is nice.

  2. constance says:

Every time I see her, I just want to hug her and tell her to dump her bum husband.

The dress was meh. The shoes were meh. Her forehead make-up was meh. I blame Ben. LOL

  3. brin says:

It’s a great color for her, I think she looks good overall.

  4. Scarlet Vixen says:

I’m not a fan of hers, but I’m not NOT a fan either (if that makes sense). I actually think this is the worst I’ve ever seen her. Her foundation is way too light. I hate it when the face is 8 shades lighter than the neck and chest. Her hair looks like she didn’t even bother to brush it! And there’s tons of puckering along all the seams of the dress, so while I like the color on her the dress looks really cheaply made.

I know some people will think we should all give her a pass, cuz she’s preggo and looks kinda wan and sick. But, after my own huge and way-too-long pregnancies I know it’s possible to look great pregnant, even if it takes a little more effort.

  5. S says:

her and paz de la huerta look so similar! it’s kinda eerie

  6. thinkaboutit says:

She’s so annoying and rarely looks good to me, but I have to admit she looks stunning here. She’s tended to her hair, makeup, AND her dress isn’t wrinkled! She should stay pregnant.

  7. Thea says:

I cant get over the first pic and just how incredibly sad her eyes are.

  8. yepp says:

she screams bored house wife to me… i wish she would have an affair after giving birth ( ben would def not care) this would brighten her up and put a little excitment and a much needed pep in her step!

  9. Kiki says:

I hate it when these expensive frocks look like potato sacks.

  10. Susan O. says:

She’s one of the few celebs who’s comfortable in her body -as it is. Not so pretentious and vanity-ridden as most of them. Too bad she didn’t marry a happier man.

  11. ShanKat says:

Great lipstick. I enjoy her unfrozen face. Her acting, not so much.

The dress sucks. Hard. Pregnancy can be as frump as it wants to be — frump on frumpa — but there is no excuse for elastic at the hemline. If it’s an element of cheap sweatpants, avoid.

  12. tracking says:

I think she looks really lovely…until you get to the bottom. The dress silhouette and color are otherwise beautiful, but the hemline ruins it.

  13. Embee says:

I like the dress…the way it drapes and folds. The color is lovely on her, too. I must say she looks like she feels absolutely awful, though. Poor thing. I hated those days while pregnant, when all you want to do is lay in bed and pray the room stops spinning.

  14. heebeegeebee says:

The dress looks like something a college student would design after over thinking it.

  15. bagladey says:

I don’t like her and she’s boring but this is the best dressed I’ve seen her in years. I like the dress and it looks good on her.

  16. birdie says:

she looks gorgeous! i think she loves being preggers

  17. sandy beach says:

At least she’s not doing that stupid “hands on stomach” pose that every other preg celeb seems compelled to do – “Look at me, look at me” ugh.

I can’t believe she’s a client of Rachel Zoe — i.e. I can’t believe people pay Zoe for fashion advice.

  18. Gretchen says:

Meh for the dress, but i think pregnancy gives her a pass on this one. Really don’t like the makeup, looks like the foundation is a shade or two too light for her skin tone in some of the pics.

I get the feeling she’s a lot like her character in Juno, a control freak and an image nut trying to do the best she can with an emotionally immature prick for a husband.

  19. sauvage says:

I love the lip colour on her.

  20. rudypatudie says:

She has a sadness about her.

  21. Mitch Buchanan Rocks says:

Jen’s eyes used to have sparkle, now she looks like Ben Affleck.

  22. spinner says:

    She looks utterly annoyed.

  23. Flan says:

    Wow, she looks sad.

Not with an abusive husband, I think, but clearly one who does not nearly love her as much as she does him. Maybe she mistakenly believes another child will change this.

Would have been glad to see some color on her, were it not for the great sadness vibe.

  24. Scout says:

    Love this maternity dress!

  25. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

She’s looking quite gummy in the one close up. I never realized how odd her mouth can look.

  26. Quest says:

Overall, JG looks great…come on she is pregnant and some women prefer comfort over fashion but this is a nice balance between the two

  27. Roxy750 says:

She is adorable. I respect her, I think she’s great. A great role model.

  28. lucy2 says:

I like it, but the gathered hem ruins it and makes it sack-y.

  29. MollyB says:

I like it! I’m a five months pregnant and if I could get away with wearing a sack every day, I would.

  30. Sloane Wyatt says:

Jennifer Garner got herself preggo again to keep Ben in the marriage; they’re featured as a Blind Gossip solved item.

    http://blindgossip.com/?p=31184#more-31184

She seems manipulative and smug all at the same time, and I don’t like her for it. If she’s sad, Jenny G may be feeling the chickens coming home to roost.

Garner’s dress is a lovely choice for a dressy pregnancy look though.

  31. Jen says:

Maybe I’m just fashion-conservative, but I prefer this look over the spandex dresses most celebrities wear while visibly pregnant. Not everything has to scream, “LOOK AT ME!”

  32. kimmy says:

    bubble hem and bad shoes.

i HATE bubble hems and it is definitely not meant for preggo’s!

other than that though, i like it. its a gorgeous color on her and her makeup/hair are nice!

  33. lrm says:

i think she looks gorgeous-like a happy pregnanty woman, and red is good on her. she should do red lipstick more often.

as for mismatched makeup overall, and the sack like dress, meh….

but for me, my boobs were the first to grow when pregnant, and i can barely do empire waist when i’m not pregnant-too chesty even though only a C….so empire waist and pregnancy for me a a no-go.

still, there are alternatives to the sack.

  34. Dani says:

My only qualm is with the bottom of the dress. Otherwise, she looks good. The dress is a nice color and I like her lipstick. I never thought her attractive, but she has been growing on me over the past month.

  35. sandy#1 says:

i like her look here, considering she’s preggers, she put the effort in, she has color on, that’s a good thing, no comment on anything else. lol

  36. 4Real says:

Aww maybe she’s not feeling well…maybe still has morning sickness? I can’t hate she looks allright here.

  37. carrie says:

she looks really good (nice lip color even if her lips seem/are fake)

  38. Mairead says:

With the exception of the powder, I think she looks great. I even like the hem of the dress and the colour is fab. The real travesty however is that puckered side-seam, I’ve rejected clothes 1/20th of the cost with better build-quality.

  39. Hootie Hoo says:

Band-aid baby. I wish she’d find someone better.

  40. Kim says:

I think she looks good in the dress. Now she just needs to stop plumping those lips and she would be a pretty girl. I can see the pillows of plumper =(

  41. KateNonymous says:

I actually really like that, and I’m glad it’s not an empire-waist dress. When you’re pregnant, sometimes it feels like there are no other options in the world. This wouldn’t work when she’s in her last trimester, but it works on her now.

  42. Heather M (Heather) says:

In my opinion she is not nearly vain enough to have her lips plumped. Indeed, I think she probably looks sad here because she actually had to dress up.

This poor couple. You know how you date one type (say, JLo Diva) and break up and then kind of freak out and date the complete opposite (Jennifer “Yawner”)? I think Ben married his freak out, and now he is stuck with one extreme when he probably should have gone with something a bit more in the middle (like Luciana–Matt Damon’s wife–smoking hot yet normal housewife in one package. Matt wins again! Poor Ben…).

At least they made some cute kids who seem normal and happy.

  43. RuddyZooKeeper says:

Geez, stick your tongue back in … I hate it when they do that.

  44. Madison says:

Too sack like and don’t like the style, pretty color though it’s suits her, she looks good here. Shoes are awful.

  45. Tazina says:

Those gathery type hemlines are in style so she’s just going with the current trends. Red is definitely her color. The makeup is well done, matches her complexion. Overall, she’s pregnant and looks great – even in the close-up shots.

No man is going to stick around and have even more children if he was miserable. So I believe their marriage is a happy one.

  46. me says:

I never liked her, but she looks pretty here.

The best she has ever looked.

    The color is gorgeous.
    Her face look great.

The only thing is that she looks so sad, which makes me feel sorry for her.

  47. normades says:

I hate the bubble hem but she looks beautiful. So much better than the mom jeans.

  48. Calli Pygian says:

Meh. The color is great & great on her, but I hatehatehate bubble hems.

She looks more like late 5mos-early 6 mos to me. Quite the bump.

  49. Andie B says:

When I was pregnant I wore very frumpy clothes the whole 42 weeks. Frankly, I stopped caring because I felt like crap. Anyway, I could get away with it, as I live down here at the bottom of the world where there aren’t many people. I think she looks great..the red is good on her, but I agree the bottom of the dress is a bit odd.

  50. Cleo says:

ooh, red lipstick as God intended! She looks a little more like Paz de la Huerta with the red lipstick.

If only she would bring back the Felicity era spectacles and seduce the ENTIRE WORLD with dimples and four eyes.

  51. Cinderella says:

She looks great. I love that she doesn’t jack her face up. Ben on the other hand…ugh, there’s nothing more to say about him.

  52. Victoria says:

She doesn’t seem happy. But then again, she could be tired. She’s got two close in age little girls and seeming well at the end of her first trimester and then there is the whole Assfleck situation. I used to love her when she was on Alias, but then it seems like she did Michael Vartan shady when she left him (for Assfleck maybe?).

Anyway, she looks okay. The dress would probably look better fitted to non preggers bod for shape. Empire is always a great way to go when you’re preggers.

  53. Blithe says:

I loved it until I scrolled down and saw the hem line. If it were a long dress, it would have been much more flattering, imo. But the color is beautiful on her, and the lipstick too. One other thing: why does her skin look so dry? Not just on her face, but her legs too?

  54. John Wayne Lives says:

She looks beautiful, and the color of the dress is gorgeous on her, but the dress itself is, eh.
I liked her better when she was so obviously happy and inlove. I think her marriage is not happy right now.
